I really do love every single installment of The Hunger Games. This movie wasn’t bad at all and I’m looking forward to eventually read the next book if it ever comes out.
I think the movie had a rough job from the jump since the book is from Snow's POV and features a lot of his internal thoughts which the movie could only portray so much of
The 2011? Coriolanus movie with Gerard Butler and Ralph Phiennes was surprisingly good, at least, the title character played by Ralph did awesome. Especially the 'You common cry of curs' speech he does. But yes, now you mention it, the 4 last letters of his name are indeed 'anus'. Speaks to Ralph Phiennes I didn't notice that ;)
I think there are two key differences between things like this and things like the mission impossible one. Mission impossible is a progressing storyline following one person and his companions which Tom Cruises plot armour aside you don't know where its going. This is a pre-qual with minor and unkown characters that is basically about their origin. Its not even the origin of the hunger games or of the city system which might draw people in to see how it goes but with the set up here it doesn't really mean anything. You know its not going to change anything or reveal any important new lore. Add in prequels fear of veering too far from the series they're trying to use and you wind up with a largely dead film. Take star wars as another example the prequel trilogy did have a known end point but you have the unknown in how Palpatine would manage his rise to power and destruction of the Jedi Order. So there's that uncertainty draw to see one system (old republic) transform into another (empire). This film doesn't do that which it could have if it involved the first hunger games or the origin of the city system where while you know how it ends the journey can be of interest in itself.
I swear I started watching another channels reaction to Succession waaayyy after these two started and the other channel just dropped 4×5 yesterday. It's quite ridiculous. I stopped complaining. Obviously it didn't make a difference. So...idk🤷♀️ I'm like you're right at the damn last season just finish it already damn.
Spinoffs can be good but they have to make things their own. The first fantastic beasts wasn't that bad with Newt in New York. You get to see a different time, a different culture and new characters. Then the next two insisted on involving Hogwarts and Dumbledore while still trying to be a "newtish" storyline and it doesn't work. If they'd done one or the other (and not had the behind the scenes stuff) I think they'd have done much better either focus on Dumbledore and the wizarding war or focus on other things e.g. Newt exploring other countries and experiencing other cultures or a completely different "tales of the wizarding" world style looking at different things each film. Instead the second one is all set up and big evil Grindlewald which makes no real sense to involve Newt in and the third is basically a place holder where nothing actually changes or means anything.
The arena that it took place in sucked. When I saw it in the trailer, it made the movie look boring. This is supposed to be the tenth annual hunger games, and that’s all they could come up with?
I think the movie didn't do better because people were done with Lucy Grey's actress Rachel Zeigler. Her running her mouth about her movie Snow White just truned people off. So bad they are redoing the whole movie, and lessening her screen time by bringing in a kiddie actress to eat up screen time with Snow White's childhood. People don't want to reward her by paying money to a movie she is in. It's a shame because I read the book thrice when it came out, in my opinion excellent. I wish this movie reached more fans, but they had a $hit stirrer in their cast that lost them the consumers money
the main issue with why this movie failed, was due to the plethora of clips of Zegler being interviewed about her snow white movie she is in. People didnt like those and decided her current movie wasnt worth spending money on.
This movie would've made almost a billion if it had been released 3 years ago. People love mediocre content to binge without having to think. Cinema is facing tough times and I hope people stop blaming franchises and "politics" for the lack of success. Mission impossible earned little, Hunger Games as well. Dune was box office bomb, well, I don't like Dune anyway, whatever. Please Hollywood, stop trying to make Dune happen.
Why are you reacting to POPULAR STUFF that almost everybody has seen because it was MAINSTREAM? STOP IT GET SOME HELP. Instead react to movies that were not plastered all over mainstream media and promoted etc. like *THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO* 2011 *SIN CITY* 2005 *LAW ABIDING CITIZEN* 2009 i can name more but lets start with those 3

It's a spinoff...it's like expecting those Harry Potter spinoffs to do as well as the originals that were actually decent-good.
