Forging a needle to sew my original shirt, Legend shirt - Ep.148

  • I filled the pond with soil to make it even. My wheelbarrow is still working great.
My shirt was almost completely torn, so I forged a needle to sew it on.
Use cotton balls as thread to sew the shirt. Things didn't turn out the way I expected, my shirt was too rotten to sew
The subtitle as well as the detailed article I will update at the website "primitiveskills.net", the official website of Primitive Skills

I forged needles, made thread to sew my shirt, FINALLY... become a legend shirt.
In the future I will make my own shirt. Those are the plans, but for now, you can send me new shirts, I'll wear them in upcoming shows, videos, until I make the shirt myself.

Ever see how somebody with muscles not just for show looks? Rather a lot like him.
Most people I know working at physically demanding jobs that get enough nutrients and don't smoke like chimney stacks look pretty much as he does, most actually even have more of a belly.
Only in those that DON'T get enough nutritious food or smoke like factory chimneys without particle filters have I ever seen the kind of muscle definition that you imagine.
The other ones are those with muscles that need to show, but they purge (a lot of unsweetened coffee, little to no carbs and only very little water before competitions or shoots) in order to get rid of the water in their bodies - with the accompanying adverse effects on health, of course - regardless of whether they gained those muscles with or without the use of steroids.

Finally get to see tailoring, nice!
I know when carding wool (sheared from sheep), you'd sometimes have two paddles that are like hair brushes and you'd constantly rub them together to make the fibers into one bunch, then use something called a Distaff & Spindle, which is a weighted ring on the bottom of a small stick. You tie the beginning of your thread or yarn onto that, and would be able to spin it down, letting the weighted stick keep the yarn taut. The yarn can be coiled up around the stick for easy storage too.
Making a loom would be a bigger project and would require a lot of fiber, but you'd be able to create crude fabrics for things like rugs, cloaks, pouches, and maybe even a pair of mittens for working the forge!

He should also really make a drum carder to properly straighten all the cotton threads into the correct orientation which will allow him to make much finer and smoother thread/cloth. Or he could just make a comb and do it by hand, although that will probably be really slow for the amount of fabric needed to make a shirt.

I only just noticed you reached a million! Congrats. 🎉 I've been a subscriber since your early days under the escarpment. Love the needle, good job. Your shirt had too much sunlight, UV eats it up! Probably too much moisture too. It may have worked better if you had hemmed the damaged edges first before joining the tears.

    • @nezumischneider7552
      @nezumischneider7552 2 года назад +1

Hemming would only have worked temporarily.
That fabric is so shot, it would have torn right next to the seam and taken the hemmed part right off with it.
That's what UV light does to (modern) fabrics. My grand- and greatgrandma's old (rough) linnen things last(ed) way longer (handkerchief linnen - not so much). But the modern dyes & fibre treatments + UV light = longevity of the fabric goes right out the window.

Outstanding job, i knew that shirt wouldn't hold up to repair....i've had several that couldn't survive that much hard work. Great job on all of it.

Looks like it's time to make a loom. You did a great job anyway, sad it didn't work out in the end. But now you just have a needle. Make sure it's oiled up so it doesn't rust away.

Extremely talented and hard working young man. I have much respect for you, but wonder if a needle carved from bone would have been easier to make. Again, much respect. ✊

I think a small basin between the state and the mill would be good. A small one that is easy to fill and empty and can be heated.
Because a hot bath is good for the body.

The change you have made to that beautiful piece of land with your bare hands is incredible and inspiring. Thank you so much for your channel and I hope I can watch your amazing progress for years to come.

Well, I guess you'll just have to make a spinning wheel and a loom so you can make fabric and better thread, and make your own shirt. You got this bro!

I have never even considered watching a video that is an hr much less 3 hrs and for the last few days iv chosen to watch 3 of your longest videos. I'm working on my property and you inspire me in so many ways. God bless you. Iv even considered buying you a digital camera. But idk how you would charge it. But then... Solar panels would work. I'm on a fixed income yet I want to help you. God is good

forging such small things really is tiresome. it's so easy to melt the tip while reheating and on the other side it cools in about 20 seconds and is unworkable. you really have my respect for such willpower! :)
