Agreed. I can understand the water wheel rotting and needing to be replaced since wood isnt expected to last nearly as long as stone, but seeing him take a hammer to the water tank was painful. I know that he is upgrading to something better, but we have so many memories of other projects that exist because of that tank.
Duong, I hope you and your wife have survived that terrible storm with minimal damage to your properties.
I'm kind of sad to see the water wheel go, but obviously, it was time. Hope there is a new bigger and better wheel some day.
My gut instinct is the same, but I am looking back at what value the wheel created that would justify making a new one. He made an automated bellows for the forge but seems fine powering the bellows by hand. The monjolo (arguably one of the most important tools on the farm) doesn't need a wheel. He tried a grindstone for the tools, but that didn't last long as it looks like he is back to sharpening his tools on his flat rock. I don't think we will see a new water wheel unless he decides to build a lumber mill, but that also might not be needed due to the smaller size of his farm.
@@yesterdayds I've had many of the same thoughts. I think a sawmill would have been by far the most useful labor saver. A grindstone made from actual stone would have worked better than concrete, but the effort required to make one would be more than sharpening his tools by hand for years.

Duong I think you should get a buffalo to help you with heavy loads or better yet a few goats that can pull a cart. But you could also use the male pigs. Build a 4wheel cart/carriage and harness four or 6 pigs/goats to pull it up the cliff.

Woah... the waterwheel & mill that helped grind tons of cornmeal and rice flour over the years is gone 0_o. To seeing the waterfall being finished and next waterwheel.
To be fair, the monjolo that grinds the cornmeal doesn't need a wheel to function. It just needs flowing water to fill and refill it. He has that still with the water pipes that feed the pond.

The water wheel was a iconic feature of your farm. I think you Will need to build a new One, só you dont loose the carácter of your farm. Thats my opinion...
Oh no the water wheel. It never was a fully utilized concept. A wood saw and bellows, but a redesign...I hope in the future. I think that would be the most useful and helpful. The wheels wood planks need to be burn treated or a resin found in the forest with a hand forged frame. It really deteriorated fast, but it was constantly hit with water and its the Jungle. I am amazed at how fast things deteriorate in the Jungle vs hear in the mid-west USA.
@mycheapselftherapy - agreed. The wheel was a great project that showcased his knowledge of mechanical engineering, but the actual value that it created was minimal. It would be great if he wanted to industrialize his farm with a sawmill, but a single family farm doesn't really need lumber production at that scale. He doesn't need to build a grain mill because the monjolo does great at that task. The wheel was definitely a cool.project, but I don't expect to see a new one any time soon.

Something occurred to me, did you build that entire retaining wall by yourself? I saw you climbing on it , cleaning the leaves of the bird cage. It must be 3 meters tall!
How long is it? 40 - 50 meters. That's a lot of trips to the river, man!
By the way, it too bad it started raining, did you have anyway to cover up your hard work so it wouldn't wash away?
So long old waterwheel, that was quite a bit of work making as well.
Very nice sir, but plsss built a new water wheel someday because that is one of your greatest project that makes you the best primitive builder i watch. And sir you can bring carabao or cow to your farm to help you on carrying heavy materials it will make your job faster.😊

hmm... maybe making a hammer with an axe like head on the other side could be a next smithing project... it'd help with breaking down any other old structures in the future... then i think at some point fixing up the aqueduct that deliver your water might be a good build... shoring it up with concrete so you don't have to worry about maintaining the bamboo will also make sure the water remains cleaner for longer... other than that the only other project i can think of is a bathhouse with warm water...
(edit:) the only other structures i can think of to build are a tower so you can over look you land or maybe if you're going to make another waterfall build then a hiden cave under the waterfall of the kids to explore... but i only suggest both of those becuase they're something i'd love to have had in my backyard as a kid...
