The flavor text I think explains the ability for Rocco.

Jetmir swinging 8 1/1 tokens is a 64 trample damage threat.
At Minimum he swings lethal over one and half times over.
"Path Jetmir, block the tokens."
Of course, dies to removal doesn't invalidate the card by itself, but he dies to removal *super* hard, even an instant speed edict could potentially fuck you up after you're committed to an attack.

Yeah. I feel like Jetmir is there to close out the game but he doesn’t actually impact the decks playability. He’s a very low cost overrun effect.
I think he does a lot even when not closing.

Jinnie Fay can change any token to a cat or dog, which would include treasure/blood/clue/food tokens.
Or even the brass knuckles token

Fitting that Urabrask ended up next to Sheoldred, considering they're both the "rebel" praetors that Norn couldn't control.
But yea, New Capenna was the first time the story really felt... Off, at least since the stories came back;
We don't know how the plane got like this in like a decade, we don't know why Halo kills phyrexians, we don't even know what Halo is honestly (is it poison? Coke? Medicine? Angels? Yes to all 5.), the angels were there despite being gone, we never explored any of the smaller characters, we never got a sense of the scale of the world, we never knew what old Capenna was, we don't know how Urabrask got there (like, is Jihn and/or Tezzeret helping him and Sheoldred, or did they break in and use it, or what?), it just feels like the worst parts of the stories of last year, all shoved together in an otherwise interesting looking set.
It was disappointing, to say the least. And another sign that we *really* shouldn't be using the 1 set per plane thing so liberally.
At least we got that really funny get away car that bounces the get away mech from NEO to break into more vaults repeatedly over and over again, amassing an army of Fox Pilot Goons. So that's something.
Also, I will say that rakdos getting to be the "hero" pair in the phyrexian story is pretty satasfying, considering how often they're treated as the "most evil" pair despite it's namesake, Demon Lord Rakdos, straight up being one of the most heroic characters in all of magic (He is the SOLE reason Ravnica is still around). It'll be nice to see them treated as good intentionally this time.
I built $25 Giada deck and I am absolutely in love!
I've been playing Ognis, the dragons lash the past week or so on spelltable. No other new capenna cards in the deck, (just to make it easier on spelltable) and it has been a blast.

Tivit, Seller of Secrets from the one of the precons i think is my favorite new commander. Its FINALLY a voting based commander, and its pretty powerful too. It generates 2-5 treasures when it ETBs or attacks, letting you play big stuff like expropriate (which you get an extra vote for). You can use urza or other "lots of artifacts matter" creatures to abuse all the clues and treasures you get, or time sieve which lets you sac 5 to take an extra turn which you can generate 5 more artifacts during. Deadeye gives infinite clues, and mana if you have an "extra vote" creature which there are two of. Overall, super powerful, super fun, and SUPER unique

How is Ziatora a 6 in uniqueness when Raffine is a 3? Jund sacrifice seems way less unique than Esper aggro, am I misunderstanding how the category works?

Uniqueness is really tied with power. If something is weak but we've never seen it before it scores lower than something strong but done a few times. I think it's a little dumb but it's how their series works
Raffine also is more powerful than a 4 on their scale I believe. It felt more like they got confused on which way to take it so it's weak when really it's strong and unique because of how many ways you can build it.
Bonus points for your cat leaving the screen unimpressed by Rigo (Cat Citizen). Also I hear they just printed some more ninjitsu cards.
2:30 There is one big thing she's powerful in and its the banisher tribal combo (get her and two other fiend hunter creatures(or copies of such) and you get infinite etb triggers among other things.)
With Orfeo, if you temporarily pump a creature and attack then when blockers are chosen use something like Fling.
I think Evelyn, the Covetous's art might be a reference to the Portrait of Dorian Gray, where there's some version of her stuck in the painting forever in exchange for eternal life. Doesn't really make sense with the vampire stuff, but that's my internal logic for why the painting is bleeding.

Am I reading this wrong; the jetmir second commander who does a replace effect for tokens, is that infinite with chatterfang? Since you make tokens, add squirrels, replace them, which triggers more squirrel?
I love raffine in my Sefris Deck. Urabrask in ol' prosper deck. He loves impulse draw and forcing opponents into impulse draw is awesome.
for Raphine... Stax, break parity with his ability and making a bigger Raffine threat everytime, Rule of Law effects and he keeps you drawing. Additionally add a reanimation package there so everytime you connive it can get dangerous and u can bring out very very powerful threats.
When a Medusa swallows using one of her snake heads the food travels down the snakes esophagus into her sinus cavity where it is then push down into her pharynx and swallowed normally... Oh and I love the video and magic cards 😝

Ognis is really the only card that stands out to me in the set. It lets me play stuff some of favourite random cards from over the years. Stuff like Disciple of the Vault, Monastery Swiftspear, and Chandra, Acolyte of Flame if I want a more fun brew.
There’s also my favourite thing about her, you can cast Ognis through a Blood Moon, since you only have to pay Red, couple that with her mana/permanent generation. The goal would be as a potent stax commander to help break stax pieces parity.

Rocco has food chain combos as well. If you have food chain and three mana dorks, you can get the squee to go infinite. Straight 10 for power. Also repeatable tutor from the command zone. Insane
Do you ever update previously ranked commanders, like if something becomes less and less unique or when they changed the commander dies rule?
I'd love to see them go through and make something like "Commanders we were wrong about."
They have a google doc with the ranks that is kept up-to-date.

Do you think giada isn’t the ideal angel commander because she’s mono white? I think it’s fine since most angels and (all?) angel tokens are mono white but I’ve been seeing discussions abt it online! There’s def strong boros and orzhov ones and a handful of tri color ones but wondering your thoughts.

I think Raffine's identity (where you knocked her power) is pretty clear. You go wide with drake haven, bone miser, nadir kraken while ditching cards that benefit you into the graveyard (madness or reanimation targets) while also playing cards that benefit from discard or card draw. I think it's preciscely powerful because basically anything you put in it will trigger off of her abilities without much effort.

Love your guys stuff, but Ob Nixilis has some really cool stuff in the Zendikar story. He kicks the Gatewatch's butt and has one of my favorite moments in all of Magic lore. When he can't really hurt Gideon with his spells or attacks, he gets past Gid's invulnerability by drowning him.

Raffine is the perfect replacement commander for my Sefris tribal tribal deck built around Haakon, Stromgald Scourge
I think Rocco is more like the idea that if you bring food people will show up. So by providing enough food (mana) you can get some really big creatures to come. It kind of lines up with the flavor text too.

Does the commander tax count towards the X in Rocco. Like do I have to pay 5 and then anything after that goes towards the tutor effect, or does the tax count towards the tutoring?
Ziatora is my personal favorite and goes well in my Michael Bay deck where I purposely throw things away to get treasure tokens + deal damage and have things like Grave Pact to make my opponent sac a creature too. Then have Sheoldred and Meren at the ready to bring them back from the grave to do it all over again the following turn. Of course I add things like Terror of the Peaks and Warstorm Surge to deal even more direct damage when my creature returns to the field every turn. To add a bit more to the Token aspect I added Bootleger's Stash also from the Capenna set and Gadrak cause he's a cheap early play that gets the game moving early. Then have things like Azusa and Exploration to drop lands quickly to make it easier to play out may hand every turn. And to top it off I have cards like Skull Clamp and Doom Weaver so I have insane card draw every turn I pull off this BS to refill that empty hand and control the game with big drops before turn 7. Its a fun cycle and this dragon is the key to making the circus a real spectacle. Can't wait to get my hands on this card to replace my proxy and make this deck official (*maniacal laughing).

Raffine is more like a power level 8. Very good enabler for a lot of what esper wants tor be doing (e.g. reanimating big stuff, drawing cards).
Rocco got a 6 in power? Is this one of those "for casual" ratings, where you do not play combos?
casual can include combos, just depends on the playgroup and what they're ok with
Rigo streetwise mentor, I thinks it's ability makes you draw one card. I might be reading it incorrectly

One card per player and planeswalker attacked, so usually up to 3 in a typical 4-player game, more if they have planeswalkers. Obviously in a one on one he's not great
Does Rigo trigger if you attack with 1/1s or if you attack an opponent who has 1/1s. Maybe I misread it, but wording seems ambiguous.
Edit: The planeswalker part makes it obvious, I suppose.

Super hyped about Queza, been working on an Esper Lich deck with Lich’s Mastery for a while but it never felt great until Queza. Made a list on Moxfield called “720 LichFlip McTwist” with a small primer if anyone has improvement ideas they would be much welcomed!

@@frosty980 I’d honestly keep both. I’d try to make a cut somewhere else because both of these cards are synergistic with notion thief and Narset honestly. Plus, they can disrupt everyone else’s hands at the table.
Also, what were your thoughts on teferi’s ageless insight and Shorikai?
@@drunklog1crecords144 they are great cards in the deck for sure and I may include them in future versions, but this initial build is more focused on the lich’s mastery combo and those both being at 4 mana are a bit too distracting. Once I get some reps in with the deck I’ll be taking out some of the more powerful support cards and will be more willing to add good generic draw pieces like that
Queza + Marauding Blightpriest + Helm of the Ghastlord/Ophidian Eye is a solid pauper combo
I had a (new) Ludevic deck that I am converting into Ravinne, with the theme of oops all creatures. Part of it is deck consolidation as Simply have too many decks and there's overlap between three of them.

i don't get where lagrellas effect is complicated. the only other way you could word it is exile up to 1 creature from every player but i don't know if that is even proper magic wording.

The big issue I have with Xander is that someone is going to say "mill half your deck" and I'm going to need to know how many cards are in my library at that moment to do so (which just adds more bookkeeping).
Generally its just faster to count the cards that -aren't- in your deck. Dosn't usually take that long.
i think you maybe underestimate the mass flicker that lagrella offers. idk about using it as a commander, but as a tool in the main deck it can be really explosive.
I did in fact understand Lagrella the first time. Maybe I have just read enough magic cards to work through their mental gymnastics.

Regarding tentacle beards and hair, I don't think they have to be shaved. I reckon they probably function more like a normal octopus' tentacles than hair. In fact octopus tentacles *are* indeed growing out of their heads.
For Rocco, the flavor text actually explains his ability. He's catering *for* the creature he's tutoring. The food is so irresistible it makes the creature come right out of the deck to have a taste

I have to say, I think Lagrella has potential as a bant blink commander synergizing with cards that have "remove +1+1" counter type effects, maybeee such as spike weaver? I dunno about anything too competitive, but perhaps using it like a flicker effect stapled to a "removal" in the 99 is just better anyway.
And again with Queza, I have to really disagree with a power rating of 3. Splitting the damage and group slugging is always a way to go, but a "free" source of a ton of lifegain procs seems more interesting to me in the commandzone. its like a more weaponized shabraz lol.
Jinnie also strikes me as being a "sleeper", Raffine honestly seems like a REALLY strong wheel turning thing to make a deck around in the command zone. There are a lot of ways to build around raf, but i think the card selection is the key part. the counters maybe just build up an eventual voltron like with korvold? (speaking of korvold, ognis lmao. new X spell commander xD)
Xander I dunno about. I could be wrong but he just seems really meh as a 7 mana commander, kinda like if people see him coming they can just stop him.
I also think Toluz could easily become hated when people start pairing her with mass discard effects and wheels, kind of like a worse leovold. Since she starts in the commandzone itd be easier to build around, and there are plenty of ways to "replace" her effect even in the 99. I personally wouldn't find that too fun to play against xD
Got lucky and got a Giada Etched Foil showcase. I'm probably gonna build an angel EDH deck with her and I pulled her Borderless Foil Sword.
fun fact for beezy: falco first said that in brawl with his down-taunt, however he says "hands off my *prey* ", but everyone thought it sounded like bread and it just kinda stuck as an inside joke lmao

This is for commanders in the main set “Streets of New Capenna” whereas the commander decks and their commanders are in a separate “Streets of New Capenna: Commander” set that will be covered in a later video

Jinnie Fay as a treasure commander is actually pretty nuts, Xorn effects turn into cat and treasure, and manufactor making a treasure and 4 power is good, and you’re guaranteed a payoff for treasures when you don’t need the mana
Aren't the feign death loops with cormela j finite mana (for instants and sorceries...seems stronger than a 5...)

Jinnie Fay is my favorite commander of this set. I just love how generic token making cards like flash foliage or dragon fodder are now cat/dog tribal cards.
She is an awesome commander!

Academy Manufactor will be great with Jinnie Fay.
I’ve been running Jaxis and she’s great. I don’t know if you realized the ability isn’t limited to non-legendary. Any legendaries with etb, death, or ltb triggers work. There are more ways to make the legend rule not apply now, too.
I slapped jaxis together too. Not busted at all, but can easily make 20-30 damage in 1 turn without trying.
Also the delayed rummage effect is not something to ignore
Queza, Augur of agonies - i know it got rated poorly but I relayy like the idea and am thinking of making a deck with demon and sphix subthemes just because of how fun this seems to me

I’m going with a pillowfort with spirits sub themes. Basically esper good stuff. With the combat taxing enchantments (ghostly prison, propaganda, etc) then throw in esper sentinel, rhystic study, phyrexian arena etc.

Can't wait until you look at the commander decks and rank Tivit, Seller of Secrets. That card in the command zone is its own engine. Single-handedly made my silly politics tribal deck into a force.
This comes up every time you do one of these but it really changes things - please wait a few days on these rankings, these new legends get such low coolness points because these viseos consistently come out before the 'legends of x' lore articles!

I'm putting Jaxis in my Boros deck so that I can use her and Sun Titan for fun stuff. discard a 3 drop or less permanent with her and target Sun Titan and get the discarded car back. sounds janky and fun

Legrella, the magpie suck has a commander but in limited and just in a deck she is great. I did two prereleases and used her to take only my creatures with double strike or can’t be blocked. Their creatures I used her on weren’t any that coming back would be an issue. Those I use kill spells. Gave a great motive to not kill her and let her attacks go thru. Then when I killed their haymaker and they need support multiple games they killed her forgetting about who I exiled (all cards under her but parts visible so it was easy for them to just look.) and then they have say a 1/2 menace and now I have a 4/4 double striker with a shields. It confused them why I would get rid of my good creature. That’s why.
She is a good limited card
Queza is great. There is so much to do and the fact that it is not each opponent takes the bulls eye of her back. I hate playing with "too" strong commanders and everybody kills or counters it Instantly and permanently
Does rigo not just draw only one card per turn? The wording doesn't make it seem like he draws for each.
