    I include windshield cleaning and treatment to my routine maintenance schedule, and do it about every 6 months. Having used a number of different products (including Rain-X) for the treatment part, my favorite product is the Griot's Garage glass sealant. It last so much longer than anything else I've used - much longer than Rain-X in my experience. Water continues to fly off the glass for many months after applying. I live in Seattle where it rains every once in a while, and many times I don't need to even use my windshield wipers at speeds above around 35mph. It's great.

      The best I used was on a new car that I went very, very overboard decontaminating the windscreen, called Angelwac H2GO. It was doing the rain off beading at 20mph and more. It's supposed to last for 3 to 4 months, but because of the over the top cleaning I did it was working over 10 months. Tried to do again and not so thorough over a year later and it only lasted about three to four months and above 40 mph😂 These sealants really do need a completely decontaminated windscreen 😂😂

    This was actually the only way I could get rid of some nasty water spotting. It’s unbelievably effective! I did end up scratching 2 of my windows with the 0000 steel wool because I wasn’t careful enough to keep it lubricated. My fault entirely. Thanks for sharing this 👍👍👍

    To all: RainX makes your rubber wipers chatter like crazy. I use cheap spray on turtle wax which doesn’t last as long but the smooth silent wipe is worth it.

    • @billbernhard3582
      @billbernhard3582 8 месяцев назад +6

      You might try increasing the pressure on the wipers by slightly bending the wiper arms ! I have used RainX on literally hundreds of fleet vehicles, over forty years. Nothing in its price range can compare with RainX, IMO, even without the fussiness of pre-polishing the glass. Wash, Dry, RainX !

    After applying Rain-X (and remove / buff as the video), the windshield wipers chatter horribly (windshield wipers are about 5 weeks old). If I don't apply the Rain-X after cleaning, the wipers don't chatter. But of course, then the light rain does not bead. Any advice?

      WD40 gently with soft white cloth (so you can see whats coming off - if you see paint color = STOP), sort of soaking the bug residue. Clean the WD40 off after with a paint safe method.
      Works on adhesives, tar etc as well. Let the WD40 do the work, keep the area mildly saturated till the residue is gone.

    _AAAaarrgghhhhh.....you didn't turn on the windshield wipers!😣_
    Let me explain.
    The _'Shop Tools Review'_ gentleman did a great job showing some of the least known tricks of windshield cleaning---particularly the *razor blade* and *0000 steel wool* methods.
    But(!) although he did unintentionally show one of the big drawbacks of using _Rain-X_ (or similar windshield coatings) he didn't show what I think is the second of the two biggest drawback of using _Rain-X_ on windshields--- *the smearing.*
    Using _Rain-X_ does, indeed, make water bead up on glass, BUT if you don't use your wipers, you will never have even the momentarily clear vision they afford; *you will always be looking through semi-obscured glass, covered in thousands of raindrops busily scooting their way up the screen,* and,
    b) you will *_never_** have a clear windshield if you **_do_** need or want to use your wipers.* The reaction of the wipers against any type of _Rain-Ex_ or other supposedly 'rainproof coating' will render a windshield dangerously obscured when wipers *_are_* used---it smears like h
