    Another great helper to combat foggy windows or just moisture in your vehicle in general, is to buy some of those compact Silica Moisture Absorber containers, like you would use in a storage unit, outdoor shed, RV or closets in your home to keep everything dry. I buy 4 of them from the Dollar Tree and they last all year long and I never have a problem with excessive moisture in my ride or foggy windows. I put 2 in my car at a time, where no one can see them and then switch them out when needed. The water binding beads are on top and there is a collection chamber below, when it fills up with water, you simply just replace it!... Hope this helps someone else, it works great for me during winter and the rainy season! 👍🏻

      It's also living on a budget because you're going to use that shaving cream for shaving, and use a little bit for your windows too. Buying one thing that has multiple uses instead of buying a specialized product that does only one thing saves money which is great when living on a budget.

    Even better, while not fogged up, take a photo out of each window. Print them out, glue them onto the wood. Because wood alone would look silly.

    The first way to avoid fogging is to actually clean and decontaminate (from stuck in dirt & grime) the glass. Having dirt particles, or the off gassing residue from all the interior components, on the glass will make it fog waaaaay quicker. The moisture has something to cling to, so fog forms faster.

    Basically the best thing that works is making your window hydrophobic, (which is what rainx does) shaving cream is also partly hydrophobic, which is why it works so well.
    You can buy hydrophobic sprays (mostly for clothing), which work way better then both shaving cream and rain x. It's also the same as what wax does on the outside of the car when you apply. It creates a barrier for water to repel.
    I have special windscreen wipers that apply that constantly and god does it make driving good.

  • @snappy_0

    Thank you, this video was very helpful. I live in a rainy winter climate and my car does a terrible job of defogging the windows, especially the side windows that get more and more fogged up especially if there are a bunch of people in the car. I tried an experiment - I put shaving cream on half the windshield and the 2 windows on the driver's side of the car. The next few times I drove around, those 2 windows stayed fairly clear while passenger windows on the other side fogged up! Clearly it worked. However, the windshield was smudged and affected my night vision and I just couldn't rub in the shaving cream enough so I ended up having to windex it away. Today I put shaving cream on the other 2 passenger windows, having those 4 windows remain fog-free will be a relief. I hope I don't have to reapply often before winter ends.

    The obvious omission was how long each of shaving foam and rain X lasts. Given the active component of shaving foam in this context is basically glycerin, I’ll give you one guess. Hint: sunlight breaks down most chemicals. Also, shaving foam contains potassium hydroxide; I wonder what that might do to door rubber seals over time... (No I dont work for Rain X, but nor do I use dish washing detergent for washing car bodywork, coz, urm, I like it to continue to protect my car AND look good). There are cheap ways, and there are good ways.

    It really works! Do not need the dehumidifier on when going out! Ok here is one of my tips.
    Next time when at recycaling centre you see a large box full of "dead" rechargables batteries aa tool batteries etc , a lot may not be unusable.What happens if left uncharged for a while the voltage goes so low that the charger does not see the battery . Give the battery a jolt, ie on a aa penlight rechargable
    I use another similiar charged battery conected to the terminals for about 30 secs then the charger sees it and starts charging! You could use a old phone charger with wires stripped back to "jolt"the battery!

    FYI to Chris and everyone. Warm air always tries to get to cooler air. The surface the warmer air hugs is the side it condenses on. Warm air outside with cold air inside, water condenses on the outside of the glass. That's why it's best to even out the temps on both sides to reduce extremes. Also using an AC doesn't technically dehumidify, it just lowers the dew point or the total volume of water it can hold. That's why very hot air touching very icy glass causes condensation, the hot air touching the cold can no longer hold the water and loses it on the surface

    • @adrianthoroughgood1191
      @adrianthoroughgood1191 Год назад

      I've never seen fogged windows when using ac so I was wondering about this. I thought it would have to be on the outside as you said, but then you don't have the humidity of your breath which is the cause when it's cold and the inside fogs up. I suppose this would only happen in extremely humid climates like Florida. The moisture condenses on the coldest place so when using ac the moisture condenses in the ac unit.

    • @TB-up4xi
      @TB-up4xi Год назад

      Not convinced on the Air-Con not de-humidifying. When I turn on the aircon in the car it defogs the windows, whether it is aimed at the screen or not, whether it is set to a temperature higher (heat) or lower (cool) than the outside temp it doesn't matter - it always defogs - that is inconsistent with just lowering the dew-point. This phenomenon should only happen if the moisture content of the inside air is reduced. It doesn't defog nearly as quickly using heater only or just blowing the cold air in from the outside.

    • @keineahnung4
      @keineahnung4 9 месяцев назад

      As far as I know, the air loses water in the ac when it cools down since colder air can’t hold as much water. Therefore, the air which is cooled down by the windshield doesn’t exceed the amount of water it can store at a given temperature and the water stays in the air.

Regardless in terms of convenience i'd say it's worth it, not only that it kinda forces you to give the inside of your car windows a wipe down, which i'm sure i'm not the only one who puts off doing no matter how grody they get and humidity only exacerbates the issue. Lets fight the disease, not the symptoms. Before doing this check and clean all the ventilation holes in your car. Car ventilation system is designed to move air from the front to rear, then exhaust it from rear holes in car body, exhaust holes are under rear bumper, so almost nobody checks and cleans them, also check air filters and replace it if needed, do it regularly, for example once a year or with every oil change. Some cars have two air filters - one inside and one outside the car, usually in area above windscreen, under plastic cover. Also A/C not only cools incoming air, it dries it, so it helps to get rid of moisture so use it.

    My car has an amazing feature called a defrost. It’s actually built into the heating system and blows air on your windows to dry and regulate the temperature.

    How to stop your car windows from fogging up? Grow old! When I was young, I took many a young lady for a "drive" and always had problems with my windows fogging up. Now that I'm old, I don't even take old ladies for "drives," so never have a problem with fogging :-X

    Can you please do a video on how to replace the Drive cable assembly on an 06 Solara? Thank you

    I've heard that cat litter in a sock will prevent fogging. I've heard you can keep the sock under the seat or place it on the dash. The theory is that the cat litter absorbs all the moisture in the air.

    Only if you don’t have anti fog. That Shaving cream is expensive and looks like way to much hard work! But fun to watch all the same!
