This is awesome. I'm going to try it with some goggles. I just started cutting wood. I've done it twice and my goggles fogged up so much I couldn't use them so I did it without which I don't want to do in case of possible eye injury. I am so excited to try this and grateful that this video popped up after 9 years. It's a great video because it's always relevant.

Back in my motorcycle riding days, I bought a new helmet that came with an anti-fog cloth. When the cloth wore out, I asked the cycle shop were to get another one and was told it was just dish soap 🧼 on the cloth. The reason the screen fogs up is the surface tension of the water droplets. The detergent reduces the surface tension and the droplets spread out in a continuous sheet of moisture and becomes invisible. I tried it and it has worked well for me the past 40 years. When my mother-in-law was having her window fogging problem, I told her he same thing and she had as good results as I had. Not everyone has spray shaving cream but everyone has dish soap.

Thanks Chris. I know this is a few years old but just wanted to say that this is now of particular usefulness to EV drivers. In general, the less you use climate control and/or heating in winter the greater range you have. I pre-heat my Kona so it's nice and toasty in the morning, and combined with heated seats and steering wheel I would never have to use heating or AC when driving if not for short blasts to clear the windscreen and side windows. Hopefully this will eliminate the need for that too.

Another great helper to combat foggy windows or just moisture in your vehicle in general, is to buy some of those compact Silica Moisture Absorber containers, like you would use in a storage unit, outdoor shed, RV or closets in your home to keep everything dry. I buy 4 of them from the Dollar Tree and they last all year long and I never have a problem with excessive moisture in my ride or foggy windows. I put 2 in my car at a time, where no one can see them and then switch them out when needed. The water binding beads are on top and there is a collection chamber below, when it fills up with water, you simply just replace it!... Hope this helps someone else, it works great for me during winter and the rainy season! 👍🏻

The obvious omission was how long each of shaving foam and rain X lasts. Given the active component of shaving foam in this context is basically glycerin, I’ll give you one guess. Hint: sunlight breaks down most chemicals. Also, shaving foam contains potassium hydroxide; I wonder what that might do to door rubber seals over time... (No I dont work for Rain X, but nor do I use dish washing detergent for washing car bodywork, coz, urm, I like it to continue to protect my car AND look good). Dont use paper towels on glass use a cloth towel. Paper towels are made from wood fibers. It scratches your glass.

Basically, if you have a clear substance on your windows that has hydrophobic regions, the water vapor (H2O) will not make 'hydrogen bonds' and therefore will not fog up the windows. Also the reason why the hand sanitizer (with an alcohol substance, hydroxyl -OH group) fogged up - because the water in the steam made hydrogen bonds with the alcohol. Science.

  • @tomstimsans17

This is a good tip. But if you jist want to get from A to B, just turn the cold air on the windshield for some 3-5 min and the fluid on the glass will dissapear. The glass are fpgging in winter due to the cold temperature outside and warm temeprature inside the car.

A simpler fix is to make sure your car's ventilation controls are set to bring fresh air into the car. In other words, turn OFF the recirc control. As the humid air comes through the system, it will be heated by your car's heating system, thereby dropping the relative humidity in it and eliminating fogged windows. It helps if the defrost setting is used to direct the warm air onto the glass. ALSO, if the windows do get fogged, TURN ON your AC. That also serves to drop the relative humidity in the air. Read your owner's manual and it will point this out to you.
No special window treatments are needed!

Lets fight the disease, not the symptoms. Before doing this check and clean all the ventilation holes in your car. Car ventilation system is designed to move air from the front to rear, then exhaust it from rear holes in car body, exhaust holes are under rear bumper, so almost nobody checks and cleans them, also check air filters and replace it if needed, do it regularly, for example once a year or with every oil change. Some cars have two air filters - one inside and one outside the car, usually in area above windscreen, under plastic cover. Also A/C not only cools incoming air, it dries it, so it helps to get rid of moisture so use it.

Basically the best thing that works is making your window hydrophobic, (which is what rainx does) shaving cream is also partly hydrophobic, which is why it works so well.
You can buy hydrophobic sprays (mostly for clothing), which work way better then both shaving cream and rain x. It's also the same as what wax does on the outside of the car when you apply. It creates a barrier for water to repel.
I have special windscreen wipers that apply that constantly and god does it make driving good.

VERY GOOOOD but I have my own tested tip:
Use the car's air condition, heat or cool, to do the work for you, anytime you want.
Point the air blowing to the glass you want and keep it open.

    • @makalaga56
      @makalaga56 5 лет назад

but if you want to not damage the AC you should use it after engine warms up. Before that time you could have premature AC problems. If I want to defog my windows fast and at the same time keep my car in good condition (parts damage), thats the way to go. Hope it helped :)

The first way to avoid fogging is to actually clean and decontaminate (from stuck in dirt & grime) the glass. Having dirt particles, or the off gassing residue from all the interior components, on the glass will make it fog waaaaay quicker. The moisture has something to cling to, so fog forms faster.

Another tip, if you're windows are fogged up, open your drivers side window an inch, after a few minutes of driving the windows should defog. Downside of course is you drive with fogged up windows for a little bit, so I'd only recommend if you live on a quiet street and can semi see through the fog.

If a car fogs up inside during any conditions there's either something wrong with the climate control settings/filter or there is too much moisture in the car. Usually wet carpets in the foot wells from melting snow or wet boots. Correct these issues and problem solved.

What works well for me is to simply keep my interior as dry as possible in the winter. If you have access to a heated garage in the evening, ( or occasionally ) always leave a couple of windows down overnight, and dump snow or water out of floor mats. Constantly dry out the interior at any opportunity. When warming up the vehicle, keep a window near any occupant down a crack. Also try not to let snow into your air intake grill when parked outside...after you drive a bit with the heat on, and that moisture hits your warm heater coil, you got fog.
