- MORTALL KOMMBAAATTTTT!!! Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is a 2020 American direct-to-video adult animated martial arts film based on the Mortal Kombat franchise. The film centers around the titular character seeking his revenge on those who murdered his family and clan after being resurrected by Quan Chi, while Johnny Cage, Liu Kang and Sonya Blade are chosen to participate on the Mortal Kombat tournament for the fate of Earthrealm.

Another fun fact: the Cage he got his screen name from is Marvel's Luke Cage, who was in the Netflix shows.
The movie was cool but GODDAMN did they MASSIVELY rush the tournament aspect. It was definitely done better in the '95 live action movie.
I just watched it last night and this is my main complaint, as well. It felt like the whole tournament was over in a couple of hours. It was about four fights and they're like, "Welp, that's the tournament". Could have really benefited from a montage of fight scenes showing the main characters working their way through the tourny and some random other folks fighting and time passing.
6:34 This is the mindset I wish more franchises will take. Keep your current audience happy, and *they'll* do the work of bringing in new people for you.

I love how James refers to “the nerd” in the third person like it’s another person. Kinda like how Alice Cooper refers to his stage personae in the 3rd person as “Alice”.
It literally is. It's a character in one of his shows.
I play a lot of characters in various projects as well, and the third person thing actually comes really natural. I do it, without ever even realizing I am doing it. You see the character as someone else than who you naturally are.
He’s played both characters in one AVGN episode, the nerd talks to James on the phone and asks him about something but I can’t remember which episode it is, but it’s a funny moment.

It will be ruined by the protests though, because all of the good movies, mostly from before the year 2000 will be banned for being offensive and these guys won't be able to review them.
I'm from the UK and they have already banned a bunch of old comedy shows within a week or two of the protests starting over here. It's absolutely despicable removing history and art over all this.

This was one of the most graphically satisfying movies in the Mortal Kombat Universe... Really graphic...

When they don’t fully know it’s based on the version of the story from MK9 that’s why it includes the X-ray’s.
They did a similar type of intro for gremlins 2:the new batch with bugs bunny and daffy duck being beaten and replaced by gremlins or something lol
scorpion acts like a wrestler for some reason, cause when you see in the opening him grabbing daffy
that sounds kinda comedic
He always sounded more like a wrestler than an undead ninja.
Jujitsu is one of his fighting styles which is grappling..
My issue with the movie. They change the main plot (Liu Kang losing and saved by Scorpion), they forget that it's a tournament (the mercenaries attacking the fighters) in the middle part and the characterization of Sonya feels a bit off.
The tournament in the game also wasn't very eventful. The only death was the older Sub-Zero. Goro and Shang Tsung each simply lost a fight to Liu Kang. When you actually follow the storyline of the games, almost every Fatality is non-canon.
Definitely a good flick. It starts well, progresses great and I like how its a good side project for Mortal Kombat which usually doesn't get good enough side-projects in the series. The added gore that is in the style of the modern games in the series is very welcome as well, like the close-up of spines and arms and bones breaking, so rewarding. Hope the new MK movie will do well as well.
"The nerd reviewed this game back in 2006", me not listening anymore, because I'm vigilantly observing and scouring the internet for every AVGN episode released in 2006.

Baraka and Johnny Cage encounter was very disappointing. It wasnt even a fight, it was just a chase.

Why does no one ever bring up the gore in MK 1995 during the Scorpion vs Johnny Cage fight. Cage slices him open and he spews guts and blood, his head explodes with guts and blood, then his entire body explodes. THAT is the goriest part of MK 1995 yet everyone always brings up the Sub-Zero kill as the goriest.
It is not guts and blood at all... it looks more like magma than anything else.
they used to have a making of top gun clip here on youtube which showed "tight shots" references. learned a lot from that episode how they blew up model planes against the sky with firecrackers. maverick is coming this december though so that's a nice gift and then mi7 in summer 2021
I loved the way they did Mortal Kombat Legacy. They were building up to something awesome but unfortunately the creator left or something. The episode of the sit down with Liu Kang and Shang Tsung after the he defeated him in the tournament was amazing too. If you haven't watched the series, do so. It feels like the third movie if they ever get it off the ground.

My only complaint is that Liu Kang needed Scorpion to save him from Goro. The scene where Scorpion turned down Shang Tsung's offer could have still been done and had the same impact with Liu Kang beating Goro, but being so beat up and worn out that it's clear he would lose against Scorpion. Scorpion was a good lead in this movie but that doesn't mean the plot needs to have him kill steal.
Also Johnny Cage was a riot.

They didn’t know this movie was going off MK9. My favorite game and this is now my favorite MK movie after just watching it. I haven’t seen any of the other MK movies. Scorpion always been my favorite MK character.

I feel Sub Zero got screwed in this movie. When we see Sub Zero he looks unaware, because the twist of the movie. It feels like a plot hole that he was unaware of his clan's actions.
