- Plan 9 from Outer Space is celebrating it's 60th Anniversary, so we decided to do a review! It's also the one year anniversary of Rental Reviews, so we went back to our original four person style. Plan 9 is Ed Wood's most popular film from 1959, that most people consider the worst movie ever made.
Special thanks to Kat Hunter for the Stabbing Eyeball cake!
Thanks to Barnhouse Collective for the Stallone T2 standee!

Stick around to the end of the video for a special surprise. It's the 60th anniversary of Plan 9 from Outer Space, but it's also the 1-year anniversary of Rental Reviews. Special thanks to Kat Hunter for the cake and Barnhouse Collective & Lee Thompson for the T2 standee! Thanks for watching.
Don't tell me what to do.
😤👌
Keep up the great work fellas! Sincerely enjoying rental reviews!
Lots of trolls here apparently? 🤔
I want to say you have, I may be wrong but man have you heard your prank calls? your soundboard is used amazingly, sorry just every time I see one of your vids it just makes me want to binge 'em. lol
Why thank you James! Not only am I the worst at video games but I’m the BEST at gravity!
What about Streets of Rage 2?
Gravity is a very middle of the road movie too! A good movie to watch while you play on your phone.
NEXUS2040 I’m pretty good at that
@@barnatt named my son after you :) (also the mother suggested it, i was like: yep!)
hamanasiken wow! That’s crazy!! Thanks!!
You can really tell from James' enthusiasm that James has such a genuine love and admiration for Plan 9 and Ed Wood.
Yeah, and it makes sense given James himself is an independent filmmaker and has been since childhood. To most people Ed Wood is just "that guy who made bad movies in the 50s," but his story actually is pretty inspirational for anyone wanting to make movies with very limited means.
Yeah, but the other guys don't get it.
Uhuhuhuh you said wood
“Plan 9” is an awesome movie, it really is.
It’s very obvious and it’s amazing to see his love for this movie
Flying Saucers Over Hollywood: The 'Plan 9' Companion is on youtube for anyone interested.
Tommy Wiseau should do a Plan 9 remake
oh god, that could be enjoyable
He already did that with THE ROOM. (Or are you talking about making a movie with the same plot as Ed Woods film?)
@@peterkrug2327 same plot as ed woods film
Or maybe Neil Breen
He did The Neighbors... Think what you like but I'm sure it's about Alien invasion!
i love how Mike is trying to hold back his laughter in the intro XD
I wonder if they did more then one take, and if it was the best one lol.
And in outro :D
yep, thats perfect!
After all,He is Holdead
Mike trying not to laugh makes the intro even funnier haha lol 🤣
As Plinkett pointed out, perhaps the best middle quality movie is Titanic because James Cameron aimed squarely for the middle to make it appeal to everyone, and it worked.
Kieran needs his own series called "I Was Watching that With Abner".
That ending. I laughed so damn hard. That was wonderful. Tony seems really appreciative of the effort.
:D
Dude, Mike nailed that Intro. Every nuanced expression was spot on.
I thought the same thing
You did it Mike!
Outro as well.
yeah people saying its bad don't understand what they were going for
One of the best parodies they've ever done
1994 was a great year for movies. It's hard to really say what film should have won best picture. Forrest Gump was great and deserved the win, but Ed Wood was amazing. Not to mention Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption also came out.
Heavenly Creatures was fantastic as well.
And the actual best picture that year was The Lion King
@UCUHdtE6pVmnQ9n4PTe3VSUg cocaine is a hell of a drug
The Shawshank Redemption definitely deserved the win that year.
Awards like that are just a huge circle jerk anyway and have no bearing on anything.
George " the animal" Steele was the head football coach at my high school.
His real name was Jim Myers and he had a pretty interesting life.
I would’ve loved to talk to him, he was a great character
I loved that guy!,watching him on youtube eating the ringpost, talking jibberish,he was awesome!
Looking at Mike in that intro, clearly on the brink of cracking up, i have to ask: How many takes did you guys need to get that shot in the can? :D
Obviously one. With James shouting "Cut! That was perfect!" afterwards.
He was ed wood acting.
There was probably a lot of takes and that one is likely and sadly the best one
I want to see what the hell they would do if they were to watch Glen or Glenda
@@betamarklar You do realize the badness is intentional.
The whole gang back together! YES!!
Happy one year anniversary, guys. Thanks for all your wonderful content.
If _Unintentional Comedy_ is ever recognized as a genre, Plan 9 will be the BEST of its genre.
I actually use the "you see, you see, your stupid mind..." line mp3 file as my ringtone for maybe a decade now.
you should change it to the sound that the Shit pickle makes
Edward D. Wood Jr. may not have been a good director but he was definitely passionate about making movies which is why Tim Burton's Ed Wood is one of my favorite movies. Looking into it quite a few of the flaws in his movies weren't his fault, he was just working with what he was given. At the very least it was because of Ed Wood that Bela Lugosi was able to act until the day he died.
Kind of a pity that Ed Wood was born so long ago. You have to wonder what he would do with a modern phone and a 128 GD SD Card, along with a $500 computer.. You can seriously spent $2K and have all the equipment you need to make a full film, cinema quality today.
This is the REAL reason that Hollywood is falling apart. They can spend $200 million dollars making a really impressive film, with nonsense plot - but I can find something more enjoyable and interesting on a website.
I predict films are dead within 30 years.
@@fuzzywzhe Yes one can only imagine. I mean look at everything James has done, he has a shoestring budget and what he does is better than most movies. Ed Wood probably would have had a successful and celebrated career making and uploading movies and shows to the internet.
You know what? I feel Keiron is underrated. He's my favourite under James. Everything he says is well thought out and he always gives an opposing view to Tony's normal sort of general audience opinion. He's doesn't talk a lot but when he does it's great.
Bewm!
He likes mewvies
I've officially watch EVERY video on Cinemassacre. I guess there's nothing else to do except watch them all again. 🤷🏽♂️
Any Type Beat dude that’s like a thousand videos though.
@mermaid yup
I have accomplished this feat as well. I've been following James since 2006, the very beginning of his time in RUclips a d have easily seen every video he has ever produced. Loved every one of them too.
They’re hiding Avgn’s power glove at Area 51
Bob Lazar worked on the prototype...WAKE UP PEOPLE
Kerimcan Ak(Sionistas Fuera!) avgn already went to Area 51
I'm going to be 1 of the few that gets killed bum rushing the base...
And that one can actually land the plane.
Every.
Time.
Now we must invaid Area 51.
I really want to see a Double Dragon 1994 rental review. That movie would fit right in.
I enjoyed that movie as a kid.
I think they discussed it when they were talking about the Turtles movies, but i'm not sure.
But yeah, why not
@@Games_and_Music really? I don't remember it ever being discussed, especially not on rental reviews, but I've watched so many cinemassacre videos who knows. It's a 90s movie based on a video game with Robert Patrick as the cheesy villain AFTER his role in Terminator 2. It should be perfect for these guys.
@John Stroud indeed, I don't know if I could watch it as an adult to be honest with myself haha
That was really nice of Justin! Not only the Stallone standee, but the friendly rib jabbing with the cake as well. Obviously a very thoughtful human. Love all the guys at Cinemassacre!
James talking about Ed Wood's studio and you're sitting there knowing his friends do not share the same passion he has for such trivial information is totally me whenever I talk to people about something I care about, lol. I love that about his videos
The rental review shows are some of my favorite content on the whole internet!
And Plan 9 was WAY better than I expected. I thought it was very good, actually.
Funny thing, I recently found my old copy of Destroy All Humans on the Xbox, and I still remember the Plan 9 From Outer Space trailer that you can unlock. Such good memories...
That and Teenagers from Outer Space (the whole friggin' movie!).
@@GamerGuysReviews I know. I hope the Remake actually has the full movie as a tribute.
My PS2 copy came with the movie.
Plan 9 is a bizarre masterpiece. And the wrap up is timeless. Poor Tony 🤣
Happy anniversary Rental Reviews🎉🎉🎉
Remember back when he was just "Motherfucker Mike"? You've come a long way, baby. Lol
Im so happy to be able to see this Video so early!
congrats for the 1-year anniversary and Thanks for all the amazing Rental reviews and the many ones to come!
all of you stay awesome!
Congrats on 1 year for rental reviews! I used to own a video store so I love them on MANY levels. Please do THE LAST DRAGON or IRON SKY
I'm really glad to see all four of you back in frame! The other reviews have been great, but I really missed the chemistry you all have when in the room together. More of this!
Agreed.
Mike needs an Oscar for that performance, and I think Justin is my hero now.
I love the review AND the Eyeball cake.
Wouldn't most of Illumination's films count as "middle movies"?
DJFoxAtYT I literally was thinking the same thing
@@whippie3650 Illumination is apparently making a Mario movie. I just hope to god it'll turn out good.
I love Illumination's movies!
Yeah they really toe the line between middle of the road and bad so close to being bad but they usually have one or 2 scenes that are genuinely funny and entertaining.
Optimus Prime I strongly disagree. I’m sorry but that’s just me. I’m not so negative all the time. If you can’t enjoy yourself with silly movies, then there just aren’t for you. If you do find the humor and fun in them (like I do), check them out!
In high school when I edited a friend's movie, we left in the take which broke someone's parents' car front window after a dummy toss, with cursing as well. I was glad to see James do something similar many times. Sometimes those takes are the best. The title of the movie was Dude, Where's my Douchebag?
Oh man. What a way to celebrate cinemassacer reviews!
The cake that long time viewers get!!
James admiration of Ed Wood!
Keep it going guys! 🥂❤️🎉
Ed wood should be a rental review such a great movie
His wifes chiropractor
RLM's Re:View of Ed Wood is worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
38:34 don’t think we didn’t notice that Wayne’s World 2 reference
Thank you for bringing all 4 back, its much more entertaining with you all as a group.
This was my favorite Rental Review simply for the fact James is so into it. I love how you can see the passion he has for this movie, and Ed Wood.
Great stuff fellas.
Cake! Yeah! Plan 10 has been set in motion ...
Love this movie. Love you all. Happy 1 year anniversary for Rental Reviews! Bongratulations!
You are the superhero this world needs
I need a Troll 2 video, Nilbog, baaaaby!
I've binged the entire playlist over the last week and I have to say this is my favourite cinemassacre series. Bad classics has a new fan now. Keep up the excellent work!
Whatever happened to Plan 1-8?
Rifftrax wrote a good song about that.
They can be found in one of the areas 1-50
The 'middle movie': everything Hollywood cranked out for about the past 5 years.
Marvel has been doing it for years
past 30 years.
I knew once I saw Mike's Criswell introduction that this was going to be an awesome episode. Happy anniversary, Rental Reviews! I hope Tony has recovered from the cake and festivities.
Love this series.
Glad everyone made it into this video! Having the whole gang around really makes the best videos.
Its a crappy classic that we love to hate with an alright cast, its the best of the worst
RusDaddy I’ve seen much worse films than this
never seent it
Mike is a legend.
I've been waiting for this one!
It’s great to see all four of you in one video again. I don’t care if you all talk over each other because the dynamic is so good. Happy one year fellas. Keep em comin.
I'm still waiting for Plans 1 through 8 from Outer Space.
Tanked cause aliens can't handle water (signs) or bacteria (war of the worlds).
@@gamleskalle1 That weakness was stupid in Signs. Why do they go to a planet that's visibly mostly water? That's like humans finding some alien species that somehow lives on a star and deciding to go to it.
@@LickMyMusketBallsYankee hubris
@@LickMyMusketBallsYankee also keep in mind that the aliens show up to a planet that is 70% water butt naked.
@@josepharmstrong1531 Butt ass naked I mean seriously, they've mastered interstellar travel but not waterproof clothing?
This was genuinely one of your best episodes. I was crying laughing at the 1 year anniversary at the end
The sound editing on this video is great. Watching with headphones, I feel like i'm actually in the room with you guys. James and Justin are on the right, Tony and Kieran are on the left. It's a nice touch
Great episode. Glad to see all 4 back together
7:06 we used to have that mask & my dad would wear it every Halloween. We called him "new neighbor."
if they're referring to Gloria Dea, she passed at the ripe age of 100 a couple months ago. RIP.
Rental Reviews has become one of my favourite youtube series to watch. Love it guys!
James I'm a huge huge huge fan and I love rental reviews and avgn. I hope you keep making these videos for years to come!
You know it's going to be a great day when rental reviews gets a new video :)
The sound was very off when watching this. I know that James is standing off to the right so would make sense that the sounds would come out of the right speaker, but it sounded unbalanced unlike the other videos y'all've done. Everyone else the audio sounded fine.
No, that's a Red Letter Media show.
..you know you are making me wonder if this was intentional to make further homage of Ed Wood and his mishaps on film
@@khaimk4r4su Good point. I was wearing headphones at work. Years of ear problems, not hearing out of one ear freaks me out.
I think it's because there's 4 of them. If I remember correctly, the reason they dropped to 3 people was because of issues balancing audio. I'm glad you pointed this out though because I was thinking my headphones were broke haha.
Congrats on your one year anniversary, guys!!! :D Best of luck for more great content in the future!
I know that I'm late to this video, but Rental Reviews is one of my favorites. Happy Anniversary guys.
14:14
Agreed, Plan 9 is a very important piece of the Ed Wood oeuvre.
Is nobody gonna talk about how James was in a Plan 9 remake?
Who did he play?
William Lowery A police officer
It's amazing to see James right in his element. Like a fish on the water. Beautiful episode.
I’m glad that you guys seem to be going back to four people in a review. Much more entertaining. I don’t know why. But it just makes me happy to look at the screen and see four of you.
Mike is great in the beginning
Best intro ever!!!
Great video!! And great to see all four in one video! Love this series so much
Congrats on 1 year anniversary! I've enjoyed all of the reviews.
Five words people: grace robbers from outer space! That’s all I need to laugh
Justin has launched himself up the list of favorite RUclips personalities.
Because no one remembers him from Underbelly.
Have we ever seen Justin laugh
@@Davidweedlove Sure. There was the time Kieran said that his mom called Street Fighter "Kick 'Em 'Til He's Dead." That gave him a good laugh.
Happy Belated 1 Year Anniversary. Great episode, been a long time since I've seen this "Crap-Sic" (Quote from Pat The NES Punk), this movie is the pinnacle of "So bad, its good". Great seeing Mike Matei again, really liked how you recreated the "Criswell Predicts" segment from the movie. Also props to Barnhouse Collective & Lee Thompson for making that amazing Stallone "T2" Standee from "Last Action Hero" and Kat Hunter for making that "Stabbing Eyeballs" cake, I'm sure Tony's gonna have extreme nightmares after that. 🤣
Imagine writing a score and you have the theme for the hero all done up and you play it for someone and they describe it as a “strange sound that’s following the character.”
Mike is trying so hard not to crack up in the intro
Mike Mattei's intro was brilliant.
I would love to see you guys review the all of the worst movies ever made.
I look forward to these shows more than I look forward to avgn nowadays. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Plan 1 - 8 were so bad, they didn't even get a movie
My love for Justin just went over 9,000 after that cake scene.
What’s funny is there are two Seinfeld episodes that revolves around this movie “you don’t understand this isn’t plann1-8 this is plan 9 the one that works!”
I really appreciate the fact that there's new intros and skits on all of these episodes even though they could easily just put the same intro on every time and start the show.
Pulp Fiction should have won best picture in 1994. If not that, Shawshank Redemption. If not that. . .Ed Wood.
In 95 for 94movie u mean
@@gamleskalle1 Fair enough.
Pulp Fiction is only known as “one of the greatest films” because of the split timelines within the same plot. Other than that aspect, it’s not even one of Tarantino’s top 3. Reservoir Dogs is a way better film than Pulp Fiction.
Cake part was the best :-D
I'd like to see Manos review :-)
What a episode. Love this series
Love you guys so much. The intro from Mike was just the cherry.
Hahahahaha holy shit the part where the cop shoots te he other cop caught me off guard so well. God that was hysterical .
Man I miss mike
Im glad you went back to all four of you guys.
congrats on one year guys, good stuff.
"there has been a murder- and someone is responsible!" No- never!😂
Came for the Nerd,
stuck around for the
CINEMASSACRE!!!
congratulations on 1 year of reviews :) this might just be my favourite epsiode so far, the ending just killed me XD
This was awesome! Really enjoyed the review of this classic. And Mike's Criswell and the cake on top of that; I was cracking up! Thanks guys!
James: Hey Mike, you should do a Criswell intro for the video.
Mike: Yeah, no... I don't think I can do that with a straight face.
Love this movie, no matter how bad it was...it's so good. But now you've gotta do a Manos: The hands of fate review.
The Master likes you
I just wanted to say I love you guys . Please dont stop making rental review.
"Future events such as these will effect you in the future."
