I think Ed Wood (the man not the movie) got the last laugh because his film Plan 9 from Outer Space still entertains and delights people today -- even a 1/2 a century later!
@@mattstorm6568 Did he really think Plan 9 was his masterpiece? I feel like he put a lot more effort and heart into Glen or Glenda. Plan 9 seemed to have gained its infamy more out of luck and word of mouth than anything
Ed Wood is such an underrated movie. Even if Ed Wood himself was an acutely rated director in many senses. Still, he represents such an exciting moment in cinema where creatives were left an unprecedented amount of space to do their own thing, something that we simply don’t see enough of today. His films might be terrible, but it’s such a unique and exploratory voice, and a pure joy that someone like this could rise to a point of prominence in order to exercise his... art. I love hate everything that’s happening here. It’s so weirdly and gorgeously and horribly and challengingly beautiful, all at the same time. Cheers for the video
It's amazing how much attention to detail was put into this movie to make it so close to the originals, really respectful of the source material. Truly one of the most lovingly crafted biopics. Clearly this was a labour of love for Tim Burton and he succeeded in that, it being a box office flop is the irony that befits Ed Wood and his biopic.
@@LuisSierra42 those are good, just not quite my temple;).. nah those two are really good. From the look to the costumes. I love Johnny's performance in Hallow more than Sweeney
I have never seen the original Plan 9….. but to see the real Lugosi scene, his last scene, I broke down. Knowing that it was filmed at his house and all the camaraderie that he and his cast had, wow.
I am not sure that Tim Burton's depiction was entirely accurate, though. It shows Ed making that footage of Bela Lugosi in front of the house as a pure gesture to humour him, and without any real plan at all. In the actual Plan 9, there are a *few* more scenes with Lugosi, running around in a cemetery in a Dracula outfit. The scenes with the double tried to match those, not very successfully. Anyway, I think Ed Wood must have had *some* idea of what to do with them, though any plan must have been scrapped following Lugosi's death. Was it really Lugosi's own house? Does anyone know?
@Yngvarfo I believe the house is Tor Johnson's, although some of the footage in plan 9 was shot in front of Bela's apartment building. Ed didn't really have a plan for any of the test footage when it was shot, he was still brainstorming several projects.
i think Tim deliberately filmed some scenes reversed on purpose to show us that it is not 100% accurate and that it exists in its own world and a loose portrayal of what really happened.
My top 5 favorite movies of all time because it reminds me to just do it, follow your dreams even if no one living will appreciate it, those who do will cherish it

I didn't expect that among Tim Burton's films, 'Ed Wood' would make the biggest impression on me. But after such a role of Martin Landau, there is nothing to be surprised about. He was more convincing than Bela Lugosi :) And Johnny Depp also rose to the heights of acting.
The casting in Tim Burton's film was perfect, and the effort put in was well appreciated by those who had previously seen the classics. I was given some underground VHS copies (fan underground sharing, the only way to get them at the time) of several of his films, along with many other that would end up on MST3K, from a friend who loved that old stuff. These were copies of copies of copies (etc...) of old Totally Weird 'Licensed' videos. Having seen the originals before "Ed Wood "(in spite of this being around 2000 or so) I could appreciate the work and casting that was put into the latter. That the originals and the latter have become cult classics is great and a tribute to B-movies everywhere.

Also in the original Plan 9 when the male alien is calling humans stupid, watch the female alien standing at the back trying desperately not to laugh
