This album "Boston" is undoubtedly the greatest debut album in music history. You pick ANY song from this album & it's a hit. You don't need recommendations. Just google the album playlist & pick ANY song.
Seen them live 3 times. Ya he was awesome live. They all were. He's just VERY underrated. The whole band is actually. They were ahead of their time back in 76 and I'll keep saying it. Funny it's taking until now for people to finally appreciate how good they were. If not for their stupid lawsuits and 10 year hiatus I think things would have been different. Just my opinion.
Were you from Boston-What a time Aerosmith-played at intermediate studios with Chc Corea, Larry Bird, Bostons World series appearance in a long time lost 1k watching the ball go underneath Buckner’s legs. The coach wanted to take him out I was their on first base line in NY with the son of Milton Bradley VP Chris Getney we were musicians and salesman and he loved me because I was the best but Buckner told the coach to leave him in so he could celebrate. They wanted to put in another player, younger, defensive player. So it was not Buckners fault completely the coach should of been more aggressive. I shit my pants when that ball went under his legs. But back to the time a great time to live in Boston-they just got Bledsoe with a ridiculous contract. Someone working for us found Lawrence Taylor rookie weekly pay check stub 22k he ended up getting ten times that much but we also know a mechanic who was working. on a car and found paycheck stubs in his glove compartment but found one check for over a hundred grand old and not cashed, forgot all about it he was getting paid so much-we knew then he was a burnout! The girls were hotter than people say. Got two sister who lured me into me bedroom during a party -the younger one said my sister is sick can you check on her went up tapped her on in her shoulder and she turned around and grabbed me and the they just took me to the moon asking me what I wanted. A week earlier the second oldest one I was giving a ride home and she said you know my girlfriend and mother slept with her boyfriend and she asked what do you think about that-I said what a lucky guy! She was feeling me out At the party I had a half pound of gold columbia pot in a bowl People were helping them selves but they were respectful nobody grabbed a pocket full- after being upstairs I got my boss who was with the oldest sister and I grabbed him while the oldest sister was sleeping and said come on we went upstairs and about 5 minutes later the sister they were Italian knocked down my door and she started yelling you two did it again and was attacking us and a friend grabbed a chair and held her off. They were naked I still had my underwear The next day she locked herself in a van and it was like 90 % so we called the police who called the emt and took her to the psych hospital but in telling you that was just one instance the younger girl was a freak Beautiful she would bring her friends over and we would just go off-a incredible life I had working for that company making thousands and was only 20yrs old.Met Walter Payton-Bernie Kosar who was playing the Bears but was playing golf in front of him and his 300lbs line man. Excuse the biography but if your from Boston All I can say is it rocked-southie, not mafia dudes, got robbed with automatic weapons and the guy took my vehicle and equipment but gave me a bad off killer pot! Crazy times! Fenway, Yazd was still playing. But the music talent was incredible, Boston Aerosmith, Stanley Clark DiMeola. And making money 1-1509 week 1980 20 yrs old. Went back it was a complete awesome city. All the city streets were underground. 👍
This entire album is KILLER!!! This will be in your head for a week!! Enjoy this rabbit hole!!🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎸🎙🎹🤘🤘🤘💜 (It should be a crime to not listen with headphones!!)
Next "Boston" songs need to be: "Smokin'", "Hitch a Ride", "Peace of Mind", and "Rock and Roll Band" (all from their debut album!). The band "Yes" is a very deep rabbit hole, but "Roundabout", "Close to the Edge", and "Changes" are a good start.
You can just imagine riding in your car with Foreplay at volume 11, and as it winds down you stop at the light, and back when this came out everyone around you at the intersection either knew what was coming next, or was about to find out. The smiles I used to get when those drum hits popped, and that guitar lick screamed out, times I will never forget.
Peace of Mind would be next if going in somewhat order. Side One: 1. More Than A Feeling 2. Peace Of Mind 3. Foreplay/Long Time Side Two: 1. Rock & Roll Band 2. Smokin' 3. Hitch A Ride 4. Something About You 5. Let Me Take You Home Tonight
On the debut album, Tom wrote the music, played All the instruments, and recorded the album IN HIS' BASEMENT. Brad sang all the vocals. After the album charted, Tom had to hire musicians so they could learn the songs and go on Tour! RIP Brad..
I knew about him making the album in his basement. I knew he was a wiz with electronics. I thought he already had the band putting this album together. Interesting.
@@justme2 While Tom did everything in his basement, he realized he needed a drummer. I forget the guy's name at the moment, but fortunately Boston got a great drummer! And Tom was also going to do all the vocals himself, but then realized that Delp was the man. Tom and Delp worked together, creating those complex vocal tracks. It's worth hearing Delp's vocals on an "isolated track" video on RUclips. Tom created so much complex music, overlapping multiple music tracks, and he also innovated the recording technology in a big way. And Tom is a great bass player by the way.
Tom is like the American Jeff Lynne, in multiple ways, from the absolute flooding of the audible spectrum with music to the heavy keyboard/organ stylings to the love of harmony to production wizardry. He blows Jeff away as a guitarist tho. :)
Yes!!!! Thank you for telling the genius behind Boston!! Saved me some typing Lol!! I saw them in Atlanta in the mid 80's and they sound exactly like this LIVE!! Phenomenal!! ♥️♥️♥️
I was 12 when this hit. Boston, Dire Straits and Van Halen all had their debut albums within about a year of each other. What a time to be in junior high....
I'm with you brother. These are the songs we got dressed to for school every morning on our local Album Oriented Rock station and you literally went to bed wondering what you were going to hear the next morning when the alarm went off. Every week a new album dropped by another incredible band
I can't, but I can remember growing up with these hits, I am 65. My generation was the best generation for music in history, and it is not close! FACT!
I was 13 and this was my first unchaperoned concert - 4 junior high kids rocking our faces off. It was the tour supporting this album, so yeah…I saw this performed live.
Me too jealous! The Boston debut album was my 13 year old summer soundtrack, with my older brother driving, blasting this, to and from Zuma Beach on Las Virgenes Road in dad's old hand me down family station wagon with retread tires! Good times forever dude!!
"I've got to keep on chasing that dream, though I may never find it. I'm always just behind it......." BTW, every song on Boston's debut album is at least as good as "More Than a Feeling" and "Foreplay/Long Time". One of the rare albums which has no clunkers on it. On a different note, there is another band from Boston who had a legendary debut album called "The Cars". Boston's debut was released in 1976. The Cars debut was released in 1979.
The 70's just produced so many good bands - Boston , Aerosmith , Styx , Foreigner , Van Halen , The Doobie Brothers , Fleetwood Mac , The Cars , Cheap Trick , Meatloaf , Kansas the list goes on.
@@angelajames7917 Oh there's a bunch of bands i didn't mention like Queen - how did i forget them. Journey being another. You are so right , bands nowadays just aren't writing music thats as good as the 70's.
This is my other favorite Boston song. "Foreplay/Longtime" is more focused on Tom's awesome guitar and keyboards, while "More Than a Feeling" is mostly about Delp"s impossible vocals. Drums are great on both songs. For me, "Feeling" is more nostalgic and enjoyable, while "Foreplay" transports me in a sonic experience. Boston has a lot of other great songs too. Were all going to enjoy this musical journey! Still waiting for more reactions to The Who, and Cream. But I'll enjoy these regular dips into Boston.
@jraben1065 The electric rhythm guitars on Foreplay and Long Time are played by Barry not Tom. Bary also plays the lead solo on Long Time. This is documented in the liner notes of the post litigation 2006 Scholz remaster of the Boston debut record. You will never find a video of playing the solo to Long Time because that was Barry's work. Tom now has Gary Phil play the solo
Brad Delp is one of the very top rock vocalists. Right up there with Freddie Mercury. Who the hell knew an organ and electric guitar would sound so good together? These guys figured it out, for sure. Peace of Mind is another great song I’d recommend. Cheers!
No words!!! It was wonderful growing up; a teenager listening to such great music. You had to be living in those years to really appreciate the depth of music during this fascinating era in music. In my Delp voice “whooohhhh!!” ❤❤❤❤
Brad had an amazing voice. So sad that such a talented young man could take his own life. Boston blew my mind in the 70's and they're still one of the best bands of all time. The story behind their debut album is a legend maker on its own.
You Rock brother. You have the ear of an excellent producer. Imagine how Astonishing this was in the late 70's early 80's. We had little to compare it with. It stood alone and was Different. We had no internet, radio was limited, buying records was not always easy for a young person. 2023 It's still Brilliant! I appreciate your love for this, there is not a weak song on the first record. The whole band is excellent. More Boston recommendations: "Peace Of Mind", "Smokin". Thank you Fun Fact: Most Record companies turned them down at the time. Even though their demo sounded like this. Let THAT sink in... Mind is blown. This was recorded and polished for over a year or more in Guitarist "Tom Scholz's" basement studio.
This honestly still stands the test of time, I always use this album to test new speakers when I'm buying em. The production is absurdly clean for the wall of sound they create on tracks like Foreplay/Long Time, and you can hear insane details with a proper speaker/headphone setup. Just a one of a kind album, really
Listen to the Seattle 1977 live show on RUclips, dude could sing live incredible too, I was so lucky to have gotten to see him sing live and meet him after the show, he was the nicest guy in rock and roll
So so happy to see you and other younger generations listening to the best vocals and bands of all time this album is one of the best debut albums to this day RIP Brad Delp
Delp’s last interview is on youtube, only two days before his death, I have to wonder if he had already made the decision. Was such a nice guy, incredibly sad.
I was at a Howard Johnsons outside of Boston eating breakfast with a friend, he says to me something about the "hippie " who just walked in ..I pointed out that hippie had on a Rolex.. I called Brad over and introduced him to my friend, Brad sat down ate and talked with us... days later I see his obituary in the Globe.. I was in shock...but at least I got to see this awesome guy one last time before he died....
There are those who know singers and put Brad among Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury etc. Many critics are snobs and generally leave Brad out. Probably because Brad was known as the nicest guy in Rock and Roll.
Tom Scholz wrote, recorded, engineered and produced this album in his home studio in his basement. He played every instrument except drums and lead vocals. And he invented the electronic devices that allowed him to get the effects he wanted. He has a PhD in engineering from MIT. Music is his side gig. How cool is that?!??!! He spent almost 6 years getting Foreplay just right.
@CuttinEJ Not quite. All of brads vocals were recorded by producer John Boylan in big name LA studios. The entire song Let Me Take You Home was recorded at a big name LA studio. There is a good reason why the liner notes on this record give credit to Warren Dewey for engineering. Barry plays on three songs on this record. Fran plays on two songs on this record and Brad plays acoustic guitar on this record Tom has a Bachelors and a Masters in mechanical engineering from MIT. Tom does not have a PhD. What specific devices did Tom invent for this record?
I can’t say how gratifying it is to watch a reaction of a favorite band, and they instantly just get it. You make great observations! I was 14 in 1976 and this album was an instant favorite. I knew every word, note, and drumbeat still, after nearly 50 years. 👍👍
Not an exaggeration - there is not a bad song on this entire album; every song was a hit. Pretty much unheard of - and this was their out of the gate debut album! Go listen to the whole album. You can throw it in there cover to cover and rock out the whole time, and then play it again. I wore out 3 cassette tapes of this album having listened to it that many times. This was the type of music that would blare from the garage when my dad was working on cars. I grew up on this stuff! More Boston: Peace of Mind, Smokin, Don't Look Back, Rock and Roll Band, Satisfied, Party
I saw Boston live 3 times in 4 weeks back in the 1970s. (And 3 more times in the last 10 years) They are a studio band but they really lose nothing live. In fact during the transition from Foreplay to Longtime, they had a huge and I MEAN HUGE organ, RISE from the back of the stage. I'm sure it was just a prop, but man what an effect it had on the experience. To watch it slowly rise as the organ played by Tom was just amazing. I consider it the greatest moment of my concert life and I've been to over 100 concerts. (Styx, Foreigner, ELO, The Moody Blues, Pat Benetar, Cindy Lauper, Cars, Blondie, Rod Stewart, Scandal, Stryper, Billy Idol, ZZ Top, and so many more.) More Than A Feeling is my favorite because of the Lyrics, but Smokin and Foreplay/Longtime, The Man I'll Never Be, Rock And Roll Band, Don't Look Back... really you can pick any song from the first 2 albums... you will not be disappointed. As for Yes, Owner of a Lonely Heart and Leave It I think are their best, but they do have a lot to choose from.
Keyboards you say ? then give Smokin , by them , a listen . or They call me the Breeze by Lynyrd Skynyrd , or Riders on the Storm by the Doors . all have keyboards that will get you off
Yes, is another favorite of mine back in the day. Yes, Roundabout, Close to the Edge, Long Distance Runaround. Boston songs, Don't Look Back, Amanda, Peace of Mind
Tom Sholtz ( the bass player ) is an electric genius . He designed and built all the bands guitar amps and effects systems , then patented them. Their sound is pretty much impossable with any other amp brand or effects system to sound like Boston . The album this song is off of is one of the best if not the best debut album ever, I remember well when it came out and everyone went wild when the first song made it to radio. Even after almost 50 years to me it is still a REQUIRED album for my music collection
Tom is the keyboard player, guitar player and bass player for most of the songs on this record. Tom did not design and build the Marshall and Ampeg amps used to record this record. There is no Rockman or Rockman prototype on this record. This was all old school tube amps and in the case of guitars Marshalls driven until the power tubes started distorting and compressing.
Great reaction and thanks for sharing. This album every song is great. Some songs are exceptional. Side one is one banger after another. Listen to 'Peace of Mind' next. Then start on side two. Tom Scholz wrote the songs, composed the songs, was the engineer and recorded the songs, edited the songs and played every instrument except drums on most of the songs. That includes classic guitar, 12 string guitar, lead electric guitar, rhythm electric guitar, bass guitar and organ. Brad sang lead vocals, backup vocals and harmonies. All the voices you hear on this album are Brad Delp. This song and album were recorded in Tom's basement using used, made and invented equipment. Yes, Tom is also an engineer and invented the 'Rock Pedal' system used by every single guitar/bass player in the world now. The little boxes you see guitars plugged into before the amplifiers. This allowed Tom to selectively change the tone of the guitars without switching guitars. It also allowed no other band to cover or copy their music as the settings Tom used he did not share with the general public even after releasing the pedal system for general sale. Enjoy more Boston. Chris
@chrisbricky7331said, "Yes, Tom is also an engineer and invented the 'Rock Pedal' system used by every single guitar/bass player in the world now. This is a complete load of BS. First off Tom is credited for inventing the Rockman. Second, the Rockman died out hard and fast by 2000. It is rarely used today and their are plug ins, modelers and things like the AXE FX processor that can do so much more than the Rockman could do if one wants a Rockmanesque sound.
Brad Delp had an amazing voice, and very powerful in this song. Thank you, brother, for listening to music the way it was meant to be listened to! With speakers and not head phones! Also, Brad Delp passed away quite some years ago and his voice can't be replaced. Fore play into long time (long play=a blasting intro into the first song on an LP which is short for long playing vinyl).
Man!! Boston has always been my favorite band! I'm 59 yrs old and remember as a young buck, I used to go to sleep with Boston playing on my cassette player next to my bed!!
I am fortunate to have had this album at age 15 and loved every note, lyric and song on the album. I’ve also been fortunate to see them live. They are better LIVE. Still tops my list of many concerts I’ve been to. Their shows, in addition to the incredible music, had pyrotechnics, lasers, Tom on a Tarzan rope out over our heads, power confetti and that SPACESHIP. Yes… I am fortunate to have seen the original line up with Brad and Sib. I am thankful.
What I love about music out of the 70's & early 80's is that it gives us that 'Hey! Look Ma! No hands!' feel! 😄 All before vocals that used 'Auto-Tune' like a crutch... in fact... before 'Auto-Tune' was invented. You know... back when you had to have talent, artistic vision and mastery of your instrument, whether that instrument was their voice, guitar, drums or keys! Yeah... I spent my teens into my twenties during that era.😏 Give you some songs? Dire Straits, their entire 1st album and drown in the guitar mastery of Mark Knopfler. Pick a cut, or better yet, react to them all.
Spent my 17yr. old kid, paper-route money to experience Boston on their summer '78 stadium headlining tour with opening bands Black Sabbath & VanHalen, ...now spending my retirement money to listen to Ozzy & friends this fall in the desert, ...time flies by!! (Long Distance Runaround/Going For The One - by YES).
Boston in general, and this song in particular, just overwhelms with harmony, virtuoso performances and tight arrangements. The saddest part is when it starts to fade out at the end.
This album "Boston" is undoubtedly the greatest debut album in music history. You pick ANY song from this album & it's a hit. You don't need recommendations. Just google the album playlist & pick ANY song.

RIP Brad!! One of the greatest rock singers ever no doubt!!!
Great reaction, Boston doesn't get enough recognition in the industry, Brad and Tom combo only once in a generation, rip Brad
Brad is one of the greatest lead singers of all time, NO QUESTION.
So so happy to see you and other younger generations listening to the best vocals and bands of all time this album is one of the best debut albums to this day RIP Brad Delp
Rip Brad. ❤😢 Drove 6hrs to see them. Had 13th row seats. Phenomenal light show with the organ coming out of the floor. Kickazz show.
Delp’s last interview is on youtube, only two days before his death, I have to wonder if he had already made the decision. Was such a nice guy, incredibly sad.
I was at a Howard Johnsons outside of Boston eating breakfast with a friend, he says to me something about the "hippie " who just walked in
..I pointed out that hippie had on a Rolex.. I called Brad over and introduced him to my friend, Brad sat down ate and talked with us... days later I see his obituary in the Globe.. I was in shock...but at least I got to see this awesome guy one last time before he died....
Yes he gonna do it sgain
Oh oh they will
It was a great time to be a teenager when Boston was on Fire! We had the greatest music!
Next? Man I'll Never Be... Boston's Ballad, but Brad shows out!❤
Here is song 3 you should hear from BOSTON, ITS CALLED" ROCKING ROLL BAND"
Was there back when Boston arrived on the scene back in the day. Like you, it was love at first sound. Not a bad song from this group
Bostons first 2 albums are fire 🔥
You really ought to consider doing every single song off of that debut album. It is regarded as one of the most iconic debut albums in rock history.
This is a damn masterpiece
There are those who know singers and put Brad among Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury etc. Many critics are snobs and generally leave Brad out. Probably because Brad was known as the nicest guy in Rock and Roll.
Your reaction and appreciation for Brad's voice is priceless.
The most explosive, unique and diverse era in music history.....our beloved 1970s.
Yes Brad was simply one of the best in rock ever. And to think he did most of the backing vocals in the studio as well. RIP Brad Delp!
Just make a list of the songs on this album and throw a dart and listen, nothing but pure listening pleasure ,I promise.
Brain freeze often happens in the presence of greatness. 😮 Thanks for the honest review! 😊
I can’t say how gratifying it is to watch a reaction of a favorite band, and they instantly just get it. You make great observations! I was 14 in 1976 and this album was an instant favorite. I knew every word, note, and drumbeat still, after nearly 50 years.
👍👍
Every single song on the Boston Debut album is a banger....every single song!
Brad is awesome live, too. Greatly underrated.
So much good music came out that year, man it was a good time to be alive
Bro this whole album is 🔥 in 1976 this album was playing everywhere you went
LOVE IT❤❤❤❤
Not an exaggeration - there is not a bad song on this entire album; every song was a hit.
Headphones are needed. The music comes in and out and around ❤😊
When somebody wants to know what rock ‘n’ roll is you play this song.
Best Debut album of all time period.
He's going to do it.
Keyboards you say ? then give Smokin , by them , a listen . or They call me the Breeze by Lynyrd Skynyrd , or Riders on the Storm by the Doors . all have keyboards that will get you off
Or Roundabout by Yes for some keyboard magic
I would vote on "Walk On Medley" by BOSTON, which is 12 minutes long.
Brad is vocals.. Tom is EVERYTHING else.
No he wasn't.
Tom Scholtz had an electronic engineering degree from MIT. He invented all the effects pedals used on the album.
Toms bachelors and basters degrees from MIT are in mechanical engineering not electrical engineering
This album blew my mind when I was 15. Forty some years later it still sounds fresh.
Yes, is another favorite of mine back in the day. Yes, Roundabout, Close to the
Edge, Long Distance Runaround. Boston songs, Don't Look Back, Amanda, Peace of Mind
Dude! You NAILED that high note!! TWICE!🔥🔥
Chris
Yes songs you should hear: 'I've seen all good people'; 'Roundabout'; 'And You and I' .
“Foreplay” was written many years before “Long Time!”
I absolutely love your reaction. Boston is one of the all time best bands ever. Great video sir.
Rip Brad...thanks for the memories
Bruh life begins on a summer day in a car with this song on the radio.
One of my favorite bands growing up in the 70's. They were great to see live! Thanks for this.
This album is arguably the greatest debut album of all time.
Yes- “Roundabout”, “I’ve Seen All Good People/ Your Move”, “Owner Of a Lonely Heart.” This Boston album is pure fire.
Man!! Boston has always been my favorite band! I'm 59 yrs old and remember as a young buck, I used to go to sleep with Boston playing on my cassette player next to my bed!!
From the number 1 album of all time…..period.
My eyes get leaky when I remember how optimistic I was when we wore this album out! Not any more
this whole album is fire hit after hit
There's so much structure in Boston's records that it doesn't matter how many times you play them, you will never get tired of listening to them.
“Brad…don’t do this again. DO NOT do this again. Omg 😂.
The album, the song, Brad’s voice…ladies and gents…this IS perfection!!
lol , the intro got you well hold on just started!
Actual instruments being played, no auto-tune … pure
Interesting seeing someone hearing this for the first time, old guys like me have been listening to this for 40 years........lol
This song is a musical masterpiece that never gets old.
This was a record setting Album when it came out.
Boston's first album might be the best Rock n Roll album ever made.
Boston released their greatest hits on their debut album!
Been listening to this for 47yrs. Still kicks ass. Smokin is my favorite.
Just listen to the entire album. You won’t regret it.
Boston in general, and this song in particular, just overwhelms with harmony, virtuoso performances and tight arrangements. The saddest part is when it starts to fade out at the end.
My very first concert. I was 14. Nothing ever compared. My favorite band of all time.❤❤❤
