Another thoughtful and informative report. We found Uvita lacked character, though there are many more beautiful towns along the coast in Costa Rica. Dominical is one such place ; very special, and free beach. In fact, the charge to visit the beach in Uvita is a rarity, and linked to its status as a protected area. We met many expats who lived nearby, east of the coast in the higher elevation towns (cooler). They could take a quick bus ride down to the beach whenever it suited them. Overall, things are more expensive, I agree, but there's a safety factor, and special beauty in the protected areas in CR, that makes it a very special place.
Thanks for all you share! I looove the climate/nature in CR but not the prices. I used to love Mayan Riviera mexico but it’s too expensive now too, so.... I’m more curious about Caribbean side Costa Rica now...Puerto Viejo less touristy, less developed, more rustic, a bit more affordable and so much nature. It’s on my list to visit👌
Wow came across this in cahuita limon but had no idea it was same in uvita... Is it bc it’s part of the national park? Thks for sharing. Im researching cahuita on Caribbean side and have decided against it bc a couple of the beaches are in the national park and I’d prefer to not have to pay to do a run each morn.
I agree. It wouldn't be a problem if there was a nearby free beach but Hermosa Beach isn't that close. They should have at least a strip of beach that is free near Uvita proper. I respect their desire to protect the habitat overall but I do not agree that the entire beach in Uvita should be off limits. Even 200 meters of free beach would signal a desire to care about locals and foreigners on tight budgets.
Thanks for going to Costa Rica. Hope your check out at least two more areas in Costa Rica. I also like the idea of you covering Nicaragua. Some say its like Costa Rica 20 years ago before it became so popular.
Haha, sounds like this area has set itself up to accomodate expat foreigners, and price accordingly. That's actually smart on their part, its's still likely cheaper than expat's home countries. But I agree with your sentiment. Going to another country/culture, is much more rewarding to live and learn among the local peoples. If you're going to be in a gated community among your same countrymen, what's the point?
@@VagabondAwake Oh, I didn't mean in this particular report or country. I've just seen in a variety of videos that sometimes there are expats in different countries that form their own little bubbles and that's kind of silly to me. Yes, it's fine to connect and befriend others from one's country, but not to isolate from the locals. We are of the same frame of mind.
I agree. Mexico feels more like home to me. Costa Rica just seems too expensive to me. Although there are places that you can live cheap in Costa Rica, they are not near the beach for the most part. Also, mnay people are not aware of the greenery in Mexico in the mountains especially in places in the south like Chiapas. But some people just prefer Costa Rica. Nothing wrong with that. You just generally need more money in CR. .
@@VagabondAwake I'm a costarican working from home my salary is $800 a month and I'm living veryy happy in Tamarindo beach 😊 so different opinions I guess Love from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
@@VagabondAwake I looooved chiapas, mexico....and why I love Costa Rica... nature+climate but plus the beautiful beaches! I haven’t been able to find a place similar in Mexico that is not FULL of tourists and therefore pricey. It’s close to the US so of course Mayan Riviera fills up with tourists/expats. But the prices in CR with so many things being imported are a turn off too I agree! Good for a vacation but not full time on a budget. Still looking for the perfect quieter place in Mexico that has rainforest + beaches like Costa Rica....

I stayed in Quepos and did a tour through Manuel Antonio with a guide. Wonderful trip and a beautiful country but even back in 2005 property had already become very expensive
Thanks again for such a beautiful place to see and the cost of living. The food looked delicious and the stuff that was for sale at the market really looked fantastic. So clean well organized. I would tell them when they told you the price to got to the beach is that you did not want to buy the beach. Unreal. Keep them coming Dan and guapa.
As a costarican that's the only beach I have heard where u need to pay to go to the beach and the reason is because that area specifically is a protected area wildlife there is just amazing and they want to keep it like that as far as they can, Love from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Thanks great work. Curious do you use some program like dragon fly to type up you written comments from your video? Or do you type that first then do your video? Whrn you show shit of your budget, is that on excel and take a screen shot? Just curious. What are your cameras if choice Canon M50, gorpro model, etc. Do you use the mini drone so you don't need a license? I may travel more and try this
Some videos are spontaneous. Others I write the narrative and speak into audio recorder on smartphone. The budget snippet is using the Microsoft Snipping tool (free). The spread sheet is a table on Google docs. Only use GoPro 8 Black and Iphone 12 now. Sold Cannon M50.
We loved visiting CR but for daily life I would probably pick one of the other countries. Stayed tuned when Qiang and I pick our favorites ib Central America.
guess you haven't been to new jersey where they carge $9-$10 beach pass per day even for that town resident and home taxes avg $10,000 a year or more.....lol......life is a beach

@@VagabondAwake There are so many beaches throughout Costa Rica that do not charge, in fact I cant think of another one that does charge.
Very good report all round. Cost of food stuff stands out: accounts for over 40% of your budget!
Yes, it doesn't seem to have as many cheap options as other parts of central America.
Will you eventually go to San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua. I heard good things about it.
Yes, stay tuned!

Costa Rica costs too much compared to other similar places. Jmo. Mexico seems to offer much of the same for less.
Safety in Uvita and in Mexico is a totally different story and the nature in Uvita, Costa Rica is far better that what you can find in Mexico

Thanks Dan and Qiang. Great breakdown of Uvita. Hope you're going to have time to spend some time in the mountainous areas. Cheers.
Yes, two spots at a higher elevation that has cooler temperatures. Do you live there John? We are looking for a Costa Rica guest star for the channel.

Where is the cost of medical care, dentist? Also, from time to time you must buy some clothes, shoes, ... how expensive is that in Costa Rica?
Great questions. Hopefully we will get a few guest stars that have a more complete story of their costs living there.

The beach tax is nuts. I can only assume there must be some decent towns near the free beaches like Hermosa?
