Dreadbox Erebus - Tidbits and Tips for Patching the Erebus Synth

  • Just four basic patching examples on the Dreadbox Erebus Synth Module. As mentioned in the video, though having some experience programming synths, I'm fairly new to working with physical patch cables.
    For me, there is a nice immediacy felt with working with patch cables versus a digital modulation matrix with menus you have to dig through just to decide what source is modulating what destination. With real patch cables and a semi-modular synth, adventurous exploring is much more promptly rewarded, though the problem can be trying to go BACK to some really cool sound you did an hour earlier, but can't remember how.
    Cheers!
    +++++++ Added 3 Months After I Posted the Video ++++++
    The new version of the Erebus replaces the LFO/D patch in point with a PW (pulse width modulation) patch in point instead. So the good news is the Erebus now has pulse width modulation. Bad news is two of my patching examples are no longer valid with newer releases of the Erebus.

    This is really helpful, thanks! Erebus and Nyx on their way

      Thanks, but note this was a Erebus v1. Two of the patch examples don't work for the Erebus v2, because the LFO depth patch point was replaced with a pulse-width patch point. So, v2 now lets you do pulse-width modulation, which v1 lacks, but v2 won't let you do mode-wheel vibrato control.

    Yeah, sorry about the wait. Know they've been on back order here in Germany for a bit this spring too. I was lucky as an early purchaser of the Semi-Modular, they squeezed me in on one of the first batches of the Erebus. Know it doesn't help much, but IMO it's worth the wait...

    I like envelopp/envelop. Would make a great band/project/album name.

    How is the pitch stability and osc tracking in the higher octaves on Erebus?

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  7 лет назад

      I somehow missed your question from LONG ago. Tracking is good (MUCH better than the Arturia Minibrute). The whole range is 5 octaves, and I solidly get 3.5 to 4 octaves of in-tune playing when it's fully warmed up. The Minibrute is good for about 2 octaves, max.

    I just got the v2, which does NOT have the LFO/D jack. How do I set up the same vibrato on mine?

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  7 лет назад

      Yeah, I think I commented somewhere that about 2 months after I did this video, they released the Erebus V2, replacing the LFO/D jack, making 2 of my patching examples pointless. There's not a way on the Erebus V2 to do vibrato with the mod wheel...that I've figured out. I have the same problem with the Murmux v2. I was mixed on the change because I like some good ol' modulated pulse width wave forms, but I wouldn't have liked losing the mod-wheel controllable vibrato.

    • @SPAZZOID100
      @SPAZZOID100 7 лет назад

      I was afraid you'd say that. Well, that blows. They could have sacrificed the VCA input before the LFO/D.

      Having said that...it sounds fantastic. Kills the moog minitaur on all levels...sounds like what Moog SHOULD sound like now. (except that Model D re-issue is perfect)

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, can't understand why they didn't open up the minitaur to full use (not blocking the upper octaves). Maybe they thought it would undercut sales on the still being-produced Little Phatty if people started buying the minitaur and using at as a lead synth too. No problem with the Erebus...it nicely does both.

    ProckGnosis Could you please do a patchbay tutorial for the Hades as well?

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  7 лет назад +2

      Good suggestion...just have to wait a bit to get my music room set up again. I just relocated from Deutschland (Germany) back to the US.

      Congratulations! Ok, yes please do the demo as soon as you can! I got a Hades but I'm not very knowledgeable about the patching. Can't wait!

      ingula akhvlediani Well, good news you were able to get one, less-good news they're now only supplying 2 cables instead of 4.

  • @bioglassmusic
    @bioglassmusic 7 лет назад

    I only got 2 cables :(

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  7 лет назад +1

      Sorry...I think only the first wave got 4 cables. That and if you have a v2 (with PW mod) then 2 of the 4 examples in this video won't work with your model. I think they released the v2 about 6 weeks after I posted this video, unfortunately making this patching lesson a little less relevant.

      Patch cables are ridiculous expensive!

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  7 лет назад +1

      True, but they are a little cheaper and easier to find now, more so than 3 years ago when I first had to buy some for my first Murmux.

    echo?

    • @ProckGnosis
      @ProckGnosis  9 лет назад

      krakou2 If you're asking about the "echo" part of the synth in general, it's just a delay effect. If you mean, "what does the echo patch input do?" It lets you control the time parameter of the delay effect.

      was just trolling an excellent review ;) was under the impression echo was part of sound identity in this synth maybe.
