      Dreadbox You guys made an awesome little synth, the Erebus is one of the best sounding machines to come out in recent years, I use mine on a daily basis as a standalone instument or in connection with a studiologic numa2 to create layered organ/synth parts. I like the way it sounds: less agressive than a minibrute or MS 20 but with a lot of depth an character and the inclusion of the analogue low fi delay is a stroke of genius, especially when you are ino more ethereal spacy sounds.

      Ziad Moukarzel Thank you Ziad, you're right, there's so much to discover with the Erebus Everything I've tried so far sounds good. Most synths have various sweet spots in their settings but this one sounds great everywhere.

      reverse:pool i have been discovering the connectivity of the minibrute since i recently got a starter pittsburgh modular synth, i think adding the erebus will open new sounds in any given type of music! thanks again!

      Ziad Moukarzel Nice, I'm guessing you've got the 10.1. That & an Erebus should really be able to both compliment & contrast each other.

    • @themouka
      @themouka 9 лет назад

      reverse:pool it's actually a system 1, an older version of the system 10.1.. same size, same module types but a different mixer and midi to cv i guess.

    Amazing Video! I am trying to make my Microbrute (not Mini-) & Erebus polyphonic but it doesn't seem to work your way. The only difference here is that I send the MIDI data from the Microbrute to Ableton via USB and then send the MIDI to the Erebus per MIDI... How did you set up the Erebus, did you set it's paraphony order settings to 3/4 as described in the Manual?

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  8 лет назад

      +EntonDelMonte Thanks... There should be no need to change the paraphony order on the Erebus. In the standard 1-2 mode with the II/unison switch to the II (up) position & 3 notes pressed on the keyboard the Erebus' osc 1 will play the lowest note & osc 2 the next lowest. Therefore note priority on the Microbrute should be set so that it plays the highest note pressed.
      Note priority on the 'brutes is changed by using the Connection software (Free download from Arturia) which allows you to select either lowest, highest or last note played. Hope this helps.....

    • @EntonDelMonte
      @EntonDelMonte 8 лет назад

      +reverse:pool Thanks for your quick response :) Yes I already tried this but it always retriggers one of the three notes with all voices when I let them go, which doesn't sound so smooth. You think this is not a note priority problem?

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  8 лет назад

      +EntonDelMonte The note that sounds is likely the last note to be released as this is momentarily allocated to all 3 oscs. Some changes to try:- Retrigger modes of the envelopes. Keyboard local on/off. (not sure if the Microbrute supports this - was a recent-ish update on on the Mini'). Other than that, a setting in the software (I've never had the chance to use Ableton myself though). Do you have other gear/software you can substitute in at various points in the chain to diagnose?

    Hey man. Beautiful and useful video! Can the Erebus make 5th notes-sounds? I mean like in 90`s detroit house music 5th stabs and such. I am a newbie to synthesis don`t shoot me....

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  7 лет назад +1

      You can tune the oscillator a fifth apart or just play 2 notes that are a fifth apart in duophonic mode. you may have seen reviews saying you can't tune osc 2 up a fifth relative to osc 1. This isn't true. You just set osc 2 an octave higher than osc 1 (ie. osc 1 to 8' & 2 to 16') then detune 2 downwards to get the fifth. Then just dial in a nice stab patch.

    • @saardean4481
      @saardean4481 7 лет назад

      Thank you very much! That is an elegant solution. It seems i should buy one. Saw a guy here combine-chain an Erebus with a Hades and got 3 voices. Wonder if this would be possible with 2 Erebus=4 voices. Btw Great synths the Dreadboxes are

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  7 лет назад +1

      You can properly polychain Erebuses, up to 4 I believe for 8 voices. A DIP switch inside sets where each Erebus is in the chain. In the video I get 3 notes by setting the Minibrute to lowest note priority & the Erebus to duo mode in which it plays the 2 highest notes. (In unison mode it reverts lowest note priority).

    • @saardean4481
      @saardean4481 7 лет назад

      wow. thats very nice! But will this mean though that if you have for example 4 Erebus when you program-tweak-search for a sound you will have to adjust the Knobs X 4 or do the other 3 synths are something like "slaves" and you sculpt the sound with one of the 4? I lack the know how in order to imagine it. Cause if you need to quadruplicate the settings when you are in a flow ...... :-)

    • @saardean4481
      @saardean4481 7 лет назад

      cause i see the guy goes with the Audio out of the Hades into the Erebus Audio in but i wonder how you connect 4 Erebus... Beats me..

    Am I crazy or can this thing get to sound pretty close to a Moog? I absolutely love the sound of it....

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  7 лет назад +2

      The only Moog I can comment on is the Minitaur. I picked up one in the summer sales last year, expecting it to give the Erebus a run for it's money sound wise. (Now I know sound is subjective & the Minitaur does sound excellent) but..... the Erebus just has more... everywhere.
      Moog ladder filters are famous for losing low end as resonance increases. I just didn't know how pronounced it is until I got one.

    Did you reverse the polarity on the sq-1 to try and remove the note hang?

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  9 лет назад

      jamie munro I can't remember what polarity it's currently set on but I'll have a look as soon as I can & let you know. When I first set up the sq-1 I only had the minibrute & experimented with various global parameters to see which worked best. Since then the only global setting I've been changing is the CV step resolution. This isn't covered in the manual, which only deals with midi step resolution, it's on a FAQ & Tips sheet found in the Korg website downloads section.

    • @ogasi1798
      @ogasi1798 9 лет назад

      yeah its pretty bad instructions for the sq-1but then again its such a small thing, but stiol sometimes it feels like theres hsould be more language, i know my ms20 has a different setting for polarity than the brutes and odyssey and i have to change it to stop the note hang-if i dont my ms20 just drones which is fun, as this erebus uses the v/oct setting id expect it to be the same. think its power on while holding play - you will need the mode and duty button lit to stop it i think

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  9 лет назад

      jamie munro Just got reunited with my gear after a few days away. Checked the SQ-1 setting & it's mode button lit, so not reverse polarity. I tried reverse polarity & it creates note hang when the sequencer is stopped & the gate length works in reverse when running (clockwise reduces gate length). Sounds like the opposite of your MS-20.

    How the heck did you manage to get the fifth tuning??? I was told that the erebuses second oscillator goes only a third up/down!?

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  9 лет назад +2

      akos bacso Hi akos, 5th tuning is done by setting the osc. 2 range switch one octave higher than osc. 1 & then tuning down from there. Eg. if osc. 1 is set to 16' then set osc. 2 to 8' & tune down to get the 5th. This is possible on every available range since osc. 1 as 32', 16' & 8' ranges whilst osc. 2 has 16', 8' & 4'. Therefore no matter which range is selected on osc. 1, osc. 2 can always be set one range higher & tuned down to the 5th. It's a clever piece of design on Dreadbox's part.
      I think the myth that you can't get 5ths was started by people having both oscs. set to the same range ie. both on 8' & trying to tune osc. 2 up to the 5th which isn't how it's done on the Erebus unlike many other synths.
      In addition the sweep of the 2nd osc's. tuning range is just over an octave so any note relative to osc.1 is possible. Also the downward sweep of the dial covers 2/3rds of the octave range whilst the upward sweep covers 1/3rd.
      In short if you just need to know if it can do 5ths; yes it can, they're just done a different way to normal on the Erebus.
      I hope this helps... & If you need any more info just let me know.

      +reverse:pool Ohh I see then! I havent even thought about that! How very very silly of me..
      Thanks for the quick yet thorough explanation!

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  9 лет назад

      akos bacso No problem, It could probably be explained just as well in a couple of lines by someone more intelligent than I. ;) Dreadbox could add a hints & tips section to the manual for stuff like this that isn't achieved in the usual way. I only found out the full tuning range & the 1/3, 2/3 thing whilst experimenting to answer your question.

    Can you use mini brute as a normal midi controller for breadbox synthesizers?

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  6 лет назад

      You can use the keyboard keys to play other synths over midi (plus pitch & mod wheels I think) but the synth controls (filter, envelopes etc are connected directly to the minibrute circuitry & don't send midi CCs. Also the erebus will receive the midi notes etc from the keyboard but it's own synth controls are also directly connected to its envelopes/filter etc so no controller can affect these. They have to be done on the unit itself.

    I have had the Erebus a month or so and cannot get the beatstep pro to send two cv tracks , one to each osc. It plays both tracks to both oscillators.
    Any ideas please.

    • @reversepool8319
      @reversepool8319  8 лет назад +2

      I'm away from my gear until the end of the week so, from memory, here are a few things to try to help diagnose the problem:
      1) Check your cv outputs from the BSP are connected to the Erebus inputs labelled OS1 & OS2 (not the one's labelled cv1 & cv2 which are outputs).
      2) Make sure there's nothing in the cv input, this feeds both oscs.
      3) Remove any midi cables.
      4) Try the 'II/unison' switch in the II position. (I'm not sure if this is necessary without actually trying it.)
      5) Try sounding 1 osc at a time by using the os1 input only, then swap to the os2 input only. This part should prove whether the problem is/isn't the Erebus.
      6) Do the oscs each sound separate notes in duophonic mode over midi?
      I can't really help with the BSP setup side of things as I don't have one, if none of the above helps, I'll do some experiments when I get back.

    • @johnhorrobin8560
      @johnhorrobin8560 8 лет назад

      Thanks for the tips , I will try some more and let you know.
      I am a bit new to this cv / gate stuff, the Erebus seems to have only one gate input but the b s pro has a gate out on each track, and as the erebus is in midi omni mode it does not distinguish between midi channels, unless there is a way to make it receive both midi and one set of cv and gate but on a mono synth that looks impossible to me.
      I look forward to hearing from you again ,
      thanks again , much appreciated
      John
