I'm stuck in Fargo while my daughter goes through chemo for Leukemia and these videos are helping me keep my sanity through this process. Thank you for making kid friendly content so I can watch with my kids!
Best of luck to you my friend.
🙏🏻
May God have blessings for you. There is a mushroom Japanese use and it stops cancer.
I hope it’s successful and she makes a full recovery! It’s really tough seeing things like that happen to kids. I’m thankful my daughter has been healthy the past 6 months. We dealt with mystery seizures and several nights at the hospital the first couple years of her life and I’m really hoping it’s something she just grew out of.
“I don’t know if these are fit for human consumption “ 😂 let’s try it on catfish 😂😂
Funny you should ask that, what about the fish ? !
They would make nice little breakfast steaks...
They are barely fit for human consumption. I mean as far as steaks go they are terrible. Tough and lean. Im pretty sure they are actually London broil from cow off the reservation. I use to use them to make cheese steak sandwiches, cheap meat and the flavor isn't bad.
You are now the Saturday morning fishing shows I remember watching as a kid. Thank you
Same! I get my groceries in the morning and watch some Yak Angler fishing videos when I come back. Nice little Saturday routine.
I let my kids watch it while they eat breakfast!😂
Same here! 😊
Roland Martin, Jommy Houston, Hank Parker et al would be proud. Roland still makes youtube videos I'm almost 40 and I was watching him on TNN when I was 9.
Agreed! I love that it’s always a variety of species. My favorite was always Virgil Ward when I was a kid.
This brings back a good memory. Back around 1965 a friend and I biked down to the Red River. My older friend had two small pieces of steak. Shocking to me he caught two fairly large northern pike with the steak. We proudly biked back home two miles through town with those northerns dangling on a stringer.
Love that story! I know you got some looks from admiring townsfolk. That’s a good memory.
still tearing up the red in memory for you older gentlemen that kept tight lines years ago
Red river between Oklahoma and Texas?
I think he's talking about the red river in north dakota
@@christophershelton1735 The Red River of the North at Grand Forks, ND. This is the same watershed that Matt is fishing in this video. The Red originates as a confluence of two rivers in South Dakota, and it flows north to Winnipeg, Manitoba and empties into Lake Winnipeg which is one of the largest lakes in Canada.
“I’ll catch you later” is the best release phrase I’ve ever heard😂😂
That steak probably even bad for the catfish.
Cruelty to animals! Call PETA!!!
"Ill catch you later"... man thats a loaded statement 😂😂
Nice! As a Southerner who now lives in Iowa, I can say that we would have left those steaks out in the sun for a day before using for catfish. Would be smelling “right” for catfish 😂
Ohh yes, the wind vrs kayak battle... No one wins. Ever. Lol
If you hunt try deer liver, most people throw it out, I save them for catfish bait! It stays on the hook really well too.
When I was growing up I had a friend that was part of a mink ranching family . He’d let some of the mink food dry (when it’s wet it’s a mushy paste) and use it for bait and he’d out fish everyone. H a long shot when we’d fight the local catfish river. It’s ground up fish basically and worked like magic
The only fishing videos I watch - truly a fisherman of the people, for the people
Canada ain't got no 3 dollar ribeyes at the dollar tree. If there were, would be looking more like 30.
Matt, you never cease to amaze me with your choice of baits, organic or artificial, who would have thought of $3.00 Rib Steaks from the Dollar Store, just simply AWESOME!
The sad part is they used to be 99 cents.
I just finished night shift and sat down in front of the TV to learn that catfish eat beef! I do remember fishing for some kind of small fish in rivers and dams near Newman western Australia as a kid with steak on hooks in knee deep water, the fish would bite within a second or 2 of the bait hitting the water!
I don't care what you're fishing for, what you catch, or what baits you're using - I look forward to your videos every weekend! They get me through everything that's going on, and then some! Now I'm looking forward to using some 10" wacky rigs AND some ratty old cheap steaks for some of those St Lawrence lunkers later this summer. Not too many fishing trips left for me, I fear, but thanks to you I'm gonna enjoy them much more! Bless you, Matt!
Catching kitties, thanks for bringing me along.
Mechanically Tenderized! Perfect!
I've done this before! I also had some expired minced garlic and threw it in a bag overnight. Worked super well. Might have to try again soon
Im impressed how brunt looking the landscape is up there. Here in Ga during the winter, we still have green here and there from evergreen trees. I always wanted to go to the black hills. My dad has been to Sturgis on his Harley.
It’s mostly elms and other deciduous trees along the Red River, not much green at all until things start growing back in the spring. A couple more weeks and it will look completely different out there!
I’m recovering from a dislocated shoulder been dying to fish, these vids have been helping me get my fix! Can’t wait to get back on my kayak cheers from 🇨🇦🇨🇦🍻🍻
Woodstock Ontario here, can’t wait for second week in May to start Pike fishing.👍🇨🇦
The paddle pushing against the water is so relaxing
Always great videos, greetings from Wisconsin 👍
Awesome content. I enjoy content like this… No hype. Kinda the “Bob Ross” of fishing! Love it!
Yeah, I like these chill fishing channels the best. ❤
Matt congrats on getting over 400,000 subscribers! You have earned every one of them. Keep up the great work.
I’ve used the exact same steak as bait before! Basically cut it into 3rds then put it in a ziplock with a bunch of garlic salt the day before I went fishing. Toughens it even more to stay on the hook. Great video!
Those lucky catfish are enjoying the finest dollar store steak! My catfish prefer them grilled to medium rare and coated in bordelaise sauce with a side of chicken livers.
Okay Hannibal
Hard psss on eating that steak but it looks like great bait. Awesome video man.
This channel was recommended and I have been enjoying some of the stuff from 2yrs ago!
Love it ❤
Reminds me of Bob Ross, relaxing for me.
@Dino-cj1ko Bob Ross. Now there's a blast from the past. Good shout 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I remember "Dollar Store Steak". Saw them at the caloceum
I love when my rod bends over.
Also, let the haters hate lol. I’ve used good steak that went bad, and had a ton of fun catching good fish with it.
I usually get my errands and chores in the morning done. Afterwards I go fishing 🎣. With the summer around the corner I'll be doing night fishing. I'll start around 5 to 6pm and fish until 10pm the latest
So, the "Dollar Store Steak Challenge" was a success. We need the "Gas Station Sushi Challenge" next...lol. I'm not much of a catfisherman BUT, my father likes that smaller size for eating. He says the big ones are too tough.
Those fish eating better than me…😢
Really?Sheesh my friend can I help
@@FishingForQuality13 nah, just a joke! Thank you though 🤣👍
Ok brother..Saw the emoji and thought it may be legit.Always here to help others in need.Take care
Those are perfect eaters. Fries, hushpuppies and Fried Catfish. Not much better than that.
A guy that uses a St Croix for catfish would certainly be a guy that uses steak for bait! Makes sense to me 😂. Love the content!!
St Croix once made the best catfish rods ever made.
@@henryschmidt636 some of the best cane poles also. Grandfather used them for steelhead on Lake Erie/Ontario.
They’re my old bass rods lol, I only fish catfish a handful of times a year and didn’t want to invest in or make room for several more rods. The MH casting rods are fun to fight the bigger fish on!
NYD Steak House. Welcome cat Fish. 😂Thank you. Hello from Canada 🇨🇦
That has to be where the age old saying comes from I'll catch you later😂😂
Its not steak! Its a glued meat product! LOL Great work! I love to get up an see these.
Those steaks are actually very good to eat. All of the ones I have bought have been very tender. Love the videos and looking forward to more. Take care and have a blessed day. 🍀
Blessings,
Teresa 🦉
What is the brand name of those steaks? Dollar general?
No....
Horse meat
"Cmmon take it, take that steak and run..." LoL. Commentary is like I am thinking in my head when they start to nibble. Great work 😊
I think the fish wanted it medium well
Your cat fish videos hold a special place in my heart I don’t know why I enjoy them so much but I just do
Matt of course the fish is going to fill really big with a 2lb steak in its mouth lol..... Great video brother....
Dead gardener snakes work great as well
Thank you for another awesome video. We used to use chicken livers and chicken guts when we killed chickens for the house. We'd save the guts then when we get ready to go catfishing we'd take and put them out in the sun with a little bit of borax and let them toughen up some so they wouldn't fall off. And man, we knocked it the day like that. Thank you again
Yoooo PORK CHOPS is where it's at!!! 👌
Love your channel. Been watching for awhile now.
Grocery store challenge... No one is going to hate on that Matt... Lots of RUclipsrs do it. And from what I've seen it works quite well 🤩
I freaking LOVE your Channel! This is the type of quality content that youtube should be filled with...
Love your videos That's the world we are living in. The government wants us to eat three dollar steaks from the dollar store . Good job from alberta
He was cussing you out for not giving him the steak 😂😂😂
Chicken livers make great catfish bait, makes sense that they’d also eat cheap steak
The perfect "steak out"!
Another great video, Matt!! Keep them coming!!!
Some good eater sized cats on that $3 steak
You definitely need to try for some flathead catfish now that I would love. Love catfishing content!
There are folks here that talk about river / canal flatties hitting lipless cranks this time of year. The rattles help the fish find the bait. Also glad to get a confirm on this meat. Thank you!
"All right buddy; I'll catch ya later"
I've used New York Strip and caught a catfish Yuma AZ.
A nice day on the water!😎
If I was fishing for food those channels would be great
They would have been perfect eater size fish!
Whatever works! Cool video! Thanks for posting.
Our go to catfish bait as a kid was $2 pork belly cut up and drenched in salty garlic oil, this brings back some memories
Finally somebody found a use for those cheap steaks. I usually feed them to my dog as a treat
Good stuff Matt! The dollar store used to sell pork chops too, I'd use those and the shrimp for cat fishing. Love the videos as always, was looking forward to this one. Thanks! 😎
NDSteakAngler at it again!
THAT WAS PRETTY COOL & FUN THANKYOU FOR SHARING
I am a big fan of your channel. I have watched your channel for years. You are my favorite fisherman on RUclips. Good luck in the future for big fish.
Videos are so awesome to watch every single day
Love your content buddy. Relaxing on a Sunday morning.
all those cats looked like good eaters
bro is the bob ross of fishing👍
Your comments about catching fish on 3 dollar steak got me laughing lol! Thanks for making my day better and for sharing and taking us along :)! Well Matt see you next adventure dude!!!
Spent the morning since it's raining watching some of your videos from years ago. Gotta say your very consistent with your content. Always good stuff
Great clip.
Excellent as always Matt! I will try this. I used to use liver. This looks better. Thanks for taking us along.
There is zero doubt, catfish live liver. But the battle to keep it on the hook is horrible lol.
Had to bury my grandma today. Physically and mentally exhausting day but sitting in the couch just watching this and thinking about something else made my day just a little better, thank you
sorry for your loss
@@fitchyyboi thank you
My father’s friend use to get a tub of chicken livers from the grocery store. Let it sit in the sun and spoil. Then use that. Bring plastic gloves as you do not want that on your hand. Works great.
Yep, did similar... put garlic in it, and a 1/4 cup of oil. Let it spoil real good, then strain off the chicken livers / lungs etc. Can use them as bait but also put the oil from this in small dropper bottles. Three drops on some kernels of corn and carp will hone in on them like metal shavings to a magnet...from way down the river. Good times. Wear rubber gloves or similar to handle, this stuff REEKS.
Fantastic Matt top notch thank you 👍🏼 👊🏼
It will always be funny hearing people talk about 70, 80 even 100+ degrees like it's nothing while if it was 80 degrees here (since we use Celsius and not Fahrenheit) I would instantly die the second I walked out the door, if not earlier. Like, water boils at 100 degrees 😂
Ya know .. sunblock and DS steak might become a local secret! 😅
Great video. On my way to Dollar Tree
Try some strawberry boilies for those catfish. They like them.
I've said this before I believe but your bait casting ability gets huge respect from me I've tried for decades to get like that and always fall back to my open face reels great video stay safe out there
I struggled with my first casting reel for about a year before I really got comfortable with it and could dial down the breaks to the point I could outcast my spinning rods.
Had a friend just catch a 42 pound cat down here in Texas using pretty much the same thing. Beef trimmings from a brisket he made.
Thank you !!!
Surf, Yak, and Turf.
Catfish will eat most anything. I used to use pink bubble gum to catch them. Whatever works.
six thirty in the morning... sitting watching the sun come up and having a cup of coffee... and I've never been so close to barfing when you flipped that 3 dollar "steak" over... haha omg
This guy could catch fish with a bowling ball. God walking amung us mere mortals!
Chocolate Milk Water and Steak. What a combo for Cats. Lol. Great video.
Love you, my favorite RUclipsr!
"Stew Beef" We used to go to MN fishing and my parents would use stewing beef. It's diced beef but the pieces that don't make good steak. They soften up nicely in a stew, or they made great bait! Tough enough so the fish really had to work to get it off the hook.
I worked in ND for about six months, I got there early March by April I was tired of the hotel and spent the rest of my time living on Lake Sacajawea. I fished everyday after work thru the summer. I worked and fished all over the US. ND is by far the best place I have ever worked and fished. I haven't been back in 20 years but I will return.
I need to check out a few lakes in the western part of the state! I live in Fargo so I mostly fish eastern ND and an hour or two into MN there’s a ton of lakes once their season opens.
@@ndyakangler I was staying at Indian Hills resort close to Garrison, I befriended a great guy who became my friend after I gave him a gallon of moonshine liquor from Virginia and begs me every year to come up. He would come out every other weekend and stay in the cabin beside me. He had a nice boat and we would go up into Montana on the Missouri river every other weekend walleye fishing. He would fix us Elk steaks and fish for supper. One week in late May Me and my friend and coworker that was staying with me fished the boat dock for three straight days I caught golden eyes and would smash them on the rock and toss them back in. On the third night of fishing we caught 25 channel cats 16 lb plus and I landed a Northern Pike that was 22 lb and was 52" long on 12 lb monofilament. I had to respool my pole 7 times because we were using 12 pound test. They would run it out and break it. If I had some 50 lb test I probably would have caught some 35 pound+ catfish and pike.I gave it to the people at the resort and they had a mount made and hung it in the office. I guess it's still there today.
Have a blessed day and I love using chicken livers for catfish and have a safe trip back home and God bless you and I like watching your channel
Lol, Dollar Tree steak. Didn’t even know they had that. At least you found a good use for it!
Good morning Matt, nice choice of tasty bait.
I say if the fish are biting it, it’s bait. Whatever it takes!!
I've never seen a great value cow before.. 😂
Oh I cant believe your using steak for bait!
