I got ROBBED in THAILAND and I FILMED the whole thing

  • I interview Frederik about getting his gold necklace robbed in Bangkok, Thailand. Frederik was filming himself on a nightout as he walked down Sukhumvit Rd in central Bangkok. He was then approached by a stranger who gave him a hug. Frederik thought nothing of the encounter as the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok has a lot of sex workers and it's quite normal for them to approach people as the pass by. It was later that evening that Frederik noticed his gold chain was missing. In this video we'll discuss what happened next.

The thief got caught because the video went viral and TV channels took a keen interest. The police realised this and decided "we'd better sort this out as it does not leave a good impression of Thailand". The courts thought the same and gave the thief a stiff sentence - sending out a message. I suspect this kind of theft has happened numerous times but never filmed and consequently no police action is ever taken. Quite lucky he filmed it in the first place. I wish him good luck with his channel and his new business.

Sorry to hear about this - best to get over it as quickly as possible, don't waste energy on it - it's already done and in the past. Over the years I have had a couple things stolen during my travels - including a top of the line iPhone that was snatched out of my hands on the Lyon Metro as we pulled out of the station and the doors were closing. It sucks but it is gone forever. Better to swallow the bitter feelings after a day or two and move on. It's not the end of the world - far worse things can and do happen.

First impression, that looked like a setup, in other words, it looked staged. She seemed to be fumbling around to undo the necklace and at anytime during that process he should have been completely aware what was happening.

Pete, I'm really glad you added that last piece to your video. As you know, it's important that people know about the safety in Bangkok....actually for the whole country, in my opinion. I've lived and visited a few places around the globe, and this country is truly like no other.

A taxi driver almost got me and a friend in Bangkok. He took us to an area near Nana, like a back alley with nothing but dudes waiting outside a supposed Bar/Nightclub. There was no Music and nobody around going in and out of the building. We refused to leave the taxi and demanded to be taken back to Insanity Nightclub. It was scary..

I'm just listening to the story and it's the exact same place people get robbed all the time and this has been reported to the police many times but they never do anything, they hunt in packs and look for foreigners alone coming off the BTS, one grabs you acts flirty while the others distract you with sexy man etc you so handsome bla bla while they get the necklace off! Thai people always tell me to be careful with my necklace as they are pros that never get any problems with the police! But right where you said it took place is a hotspot and probably happens most nights there

@@dougdavis8986 I replied to this comment but it disappeared, I just have said something RUclips didn't like 🤔 place a camera in the known hotspots for a start and also check CCTV footage in the gold shop to see how many times the owner has bought stolen gold and prosecute them! Gold shops do not normally buy gold unless you have a receipt, make that mandatory to stop them from easy selling the gold to the shops

Never had anything stolen in Thailand. In fact, once I dropped some cash in Phuket on my first trip trying to put it in my money belt, and a Thai guy ran over and returned it to me! After that I ditched the money belt and went back to my normal purse with each subsequent trip and no problems ever, even when drunk in the seedier areas ...

Exact same thing happened to me. My first visit to Koph Samui walking home down the main street in Chaweng a moped carrying two ladyboys pulled up beside me, it was very polished. One moved behind me and the other wrapped her arm around my neck from the front just as seen in this video. I pushed them away and it was over in a few seconds as they hopped back on the moped and sped away. Only when i got back to my apartment did i realise my grandfathers gold St Christopher was no longer round my neck. Thinking back i could recall that the person that stood behind me had also patted down my pockets so it was a verty thorough job. The sentimental loss still hurts me and i'll be honest i had a bad taste ine mouth and was suspicious of all ladyboys I seen from that day on. Being niave i didn't know about the tourist police and didn't even report it. I regret not going round the gold shops asking but there were so many of them that is just seemed i needed to accept a much loved family item was gone. learned my lesson never to show any item of wealth in Thailand.
