There is zero chance Prime 4 will be switch 2 only. It's likely going to be a switch 1 game that eventually has a Switch 2 version but Retro have been working on this game for 4+ years and they aren't going to risk the game flopping by making it only available to Switch 2 owners.
I don’t think enough time was spent discussing the possibility that’s it’s a Switch *1* exclusive release. If the release of Mario Wonder and Mario RPG buck Switch sales trends the way Zelda TOTK has, then they may see MP4 as another vehicle to bolster the sales of the existing Switch. I’m fully expecting a release sometime in 2024, and the reveal will happen depending on how late they want it release it on Switch. What if they decided for a next gen into 2025? Then it’s possible that MP4 becomes a late 2024 release. I’m not entirely sold on a cross gen release yet (within 6 mos of each version releasing). The BOTW release was different scenario because the release options were an established WiiU base that wasn’t large, or gamble on a Switch release was was an unknown commodity following the WiiU. It made sense to release it on both. But now the Switch is an enormous 130 million unit install base and Nintendo has learned that remaster releases can be profitable as a re-release sometime after the original version released. Nintendo is too smart to pass up that chance. Of course I’m only speculating. I could be wrong and been before. Nothing has stopped the Switch yet and MP4 is important ammunition for Nintendo.
Honestly I’d rather have Nintendo make MP4 be on the switch and the next console as backwards compatible. Or possibly make MP4 play slightly better on the next console like they did with the 3DS and the New 3DS games.
Prime 4 needs to be cross platform, but Nintendo needs to avoid having the game held back by the OG Switch, they really need the Switch 2 version to showcase the difference in graphics unlike most of the PS4/PS5 ports!
130 million switch systems haven’t significantly increased the sales of Metroid games as they are still in the 2.5-3.5 million range. So, by-passing Switch for Switch 2 I don’t think would significantly hurt sales of MP4. Most interested in buying MP4 will also buy a Switch 2. I’d be fine with MP4 only on Switch 2. It would have a full new generation to sell to versus one that is on ending. Plus we get a better game. Having said that if it is a Switch only I’ll still buy it and I’m sure it’ll be great.
Wow someone who actually understands the reality vs what the fans want. We are too niche off a fan base for Nintendo to waste money on Prime 4 being a double release. Sure there are double dippers but those aren't many to justify it.
I agree, it’s super annoying to have silence this long about the game. How about an update? Especially since they just released Prime on switch. Show us something.
One problem with a dual release strat, the next gen version will still be held back by the Switch version because the OG Switch cannot do advanced lighting, that's why Remastered has a new lighting system that is not dynamic (explained by Jack Mathews in a Kiwi Talks video, the console's graphic chip just can't do all the environmental effects and also dynamic lights at the same time). I can't really see Retro making a completely different lighting system for Switch 2, specially after so many years working with the older hardware.
I feel that "Prime 4" will possibly have a different name, and be more of a Reboot than a continuation. It is likely to showcase the new power of the "Switch 2" for adventure FPS games.
What if the switch version will be done like the resident evil 7 situation? I think at this point that prime 4 will be a graphical showcase of their next console so no way it could run on switch at a nice resolution and framerate.
Maybe Prime 4 is completely reinventing the franchise, like BOTW or something entirely different in general. Probably not, because…MetroidVania, but it’s possible.
The only way I'd be ok with it skipping switch is if the next console is vastly more powerful to the point where the graphics just would not work on switch
Nintendo are making more money than ever with the Switch, Mario & Pokemon films, Mario theme parks etc! So no Metriod Prime 4 doesn't have to sell huge numbers for Nintendo. The reason it might only be available on the Switch 2 is to showcase the graphic abilities of the Switch 2. The original Switch simply won't be able to do the AAA graphics that the Switch 2 can do.
I genuinely believe Prime remastered was a test run for Prime 4 and indicates that it will be on the original Switch as well as the next console. It was a way for the Retro team to: 1.) Re-familiarize themselves with the Prime universe, getting to know the feel of it again. 2.) Test out their latest graphics tech on the Switch hardware, to see if things would even be able to work and compete with the latest AAA games. and 3.) Test the waters to see if people are still even interested in Prime. After all, the last one was years ago; maybe new gamers aren't as interested as they used to be. I'm glad Prime Remastered was such a huge success, and hopefully it shows Nintendo and Retro that there still is a ton of interest in the Prime series.
14:46 soooo if they do cross generation, maybe that’s why it’s been so long. They finished it a while ago, but have been basically upping the graphics and any other unique features on the Switch 2 version.
There will 100% be a switch 1 version. The game has been in development for freaking years, I assume on switch hardware and dev kits. I don’t think there will even be a switch 2 version UNLESS there’s no back compat then yeah probably.
we don't know if next gen will be a sales success going by Nintendos proven track record with going next gen it doesn't look good for Switch 2 or whatever it will be called so the safest thing for Prime 4 is to be cross gen
I bought Switch not too long ago, because of Metroid Prime Remastered. It made me regret not buying Switch earlier. So this would probably be a reason for me to buy "Switch 2". I hope they release Prime 2 and 3 remastered for Switch as well. There's no reason to skip these.
They have been listing metroid prime 4 as a switch title alongisde their upcoming games whenever they release a new financial report, so it should be crossgen at the very least.
I could not agree more that this game should definitely be cross gen and hopefully if its backwards compatible you dont gave to pay for the better version similar to what the xbox series and ps5 do
It's not going to be because I preordered my Metroid Prime 4 when it first came up on Amazon in 2017 or so. That means I already have it locked in for a regular Nintendo Switch. Other content creators have said it could be a multi-generational game.
0:09 obviously this is very young in the conversation BUT if the rumors are true that the carts might be using 3DNAND memory and a different shape, it makes it likely MP4 could be Switch 2 exclusive.
Here are my thoughts: Keeping it as a Switch exclusive at first, but then re-releasing it on Switch 2 is the safest bet. If Prime Remastered is any indication of what Prime 4 will look like and how it will run on Switch, I think it'll be fine. Doing things this way will keep the promise of the game releasing on Switch, while still garnering purchases of the game on the Switch 2 down the line. If they make it a cross-gen release at launch, that is okay, but I think it has the potential to lose them money, as Metroid is too niche and won't sell the console, which means it hurts the sales of the game too, so they may not go this route. Lastly, making the game a Switch 2 exclusive is just a dumb idea. Personally, I don't have the funds to purchase a new console, so I am holding out hope it releases on the original Switch. Making the game a Switch 2 exclusive alienates all of the fans who want to buy it on Switch and it goes against their promise of making it in development for Switch. This choice will also tank the sales and the game will be a financial flop. Nintendo isn't dumb enough to do this... right?
Dude Metriod Prime 4 isn't going to release on the Switch then on the Switch 2 six months later lmfao! Metriod Prime 4 will release on Switch 2 release date. It's going to be a big showcase that Nintendo can do amazing graphics. If it also comes to the original Switch it will be a watered down version graphically.
If its a switch 2 only title, and not cross-gen, and it comes out launch day and It's a PS5 situation where its impossible to get a console, meaning I cant play it, I am going to cry
Personally I think we might lose a massive system on the Switch, like they made a forge mode/creative mode or PvP that needs the boost but will still release single player campaign on Switch.
Hey @ruleof2review, what would be your recommendation for the order of games for someone wanting to get into the Metroid series. Should I start with the Prime series?
I get this question a lot. I would say if you’re a fan of old school retro games or side scrolling platformers a great starting point would be Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, or Samus Returns. If you’re more of a “modern only” gamer then I’d say Prime Remastered or Metroid Dread. 😉
I'm not a fan of a cross Gen release for metroid prime 4 because that means we would have a downgrade version of this game on switch 2 because it has to release on both consoles. Better resolution and frame rate doesn't justify buying MP4 at full price on a switch 2 instead of the current switch. The only context for me in which MP 4 is allowed to release on switch is if there's 2 versions of the game that pushes both hardware at their limits
I was more pissed waiting after super metroid. Super metroid left me foaming at the mouth wanting more. I was mad as hell during the n64 gen. If history has taught us anything Prime 4 is not coming to the switch.
If this game ends up not being good, Ninte do is going hear it for quite a while lol. I have faith in Retro, especially after the Remaster. I just don't understand why Ninte do ever gsve another stupdio the job when Retro wasn't doing anything besides porting DKCR:TF to the system. What in the hell was Retro doing for all of those years? Were they working on a DK sequel? For them to sit stagnant for all that time was such a wasted opportunity. Maybe it was a talent issue, maybe they had a bunch of game ideas/pitches that Nintendo didnt like. Who knows
Uhh... Bayonetta 3 had performance issues and the graphics looked mid. So I'm certain an open area Metroid Prime 4 is going to have the same problems on Switch. We need Switch 2 asap!
Imagine metroid prime that was supposed to be a wii u game gets to skip the wii u the nintendo switch and then get to be released on the nintendo switch 2?
If metroid prime 4 was a switch 2 title, I would... have to get a switch 2. No questions asked. The switch is a weak console, It really needs a successor to take over so it can be retired. Tears of the kingdom should have been a switch 2 game, too. The low resolution physically hurts my eyes.
It would be a better game for it. If Prime 4 is being made with the sole idea that it will be next Gen only, the Devs won't have to waste time or money trying to make a game that satisfies different generations. Lets be honest with ourselves, Metroid is too niche to be a Launch game and doesn't make enough for a Dual release. Everyone seems to forget that what we want, is different from what Nintendo wants.
What's with the lack of video editing? You could and should just put like a podcast splash screen / backdrop or something instead of watching the same clip over and over repeatedly. I stopped watching and started listening but I would prefer to be more engaged. I M O
If the graphics are are good as anticipated then that will help Switch 2 sales. Bring in some of the PS5/PC gamers to Nintendo who like AAA games with incredible graphics! Metriod Prime 4 will likely sell more than Metriod Prime 1, 2, 3.
Im right there with you, I really don't see them dropping a new console anytime soon, especially with the world economy in the state that it is. The Switch is still going decently strong and in all reality..... the PS5/Xbox are basically just barely now getting games that aren't cross-gen (I'd still argue it really hasn't gotten better). @@randywilliams6248 Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Zelda, and Mario all have games this year - Splatoon 3 gets updates to the end of 2024. So Nintendo's options for a 2024 launch line up would be... The only context for me in which MP 4 is allowed to release on switch is if there's 2 versions of the game that pushes both hardware at their limits
If Metroid Prime 4 ends up being a Switch 2 exclusive, I’m gonna be quite upset Ngl
I was more pissed waiting after super metroid. Super metroid left me foaming at the mouth wanting more. I was mad as hell during the n64 gen. If history has taught us anything Prime 4 is not coming to the switch.
Handhelds exist.
There are going to be more games for the switch 2 than Metroid prime 4
Hardly anyone's going to care about those games, at least not on the same level as MP4..
I doubt Nintendo would disappoint Switch owners twice with the same game. Metroid Prime 4 will most likely be a cross-gen game.
Nintendo never said it was a Switch 1 Title.. the only issue then is, it's going to hurt it's sales, since Metroid has always been a weak seller.
Yes they did, during the reveal they said “in development for Nintendo switch”
@@TimDespairBear11They also said they restarted development as well, so they can cancel the Switch 1 version, but be a bad move.
What's with the lack of video editing? You could and should just put like a podcast splash screen / backdrop or something instead of watching the same clip over and over repeatedly. I stopped watching and started listening but I would prefer to be more engaged. I M O
You want to play Metroid Prime 4 on a handheld only Nintendo Cube?
I know it’s a 2d game but I think dread is the best looking switch game… followed closely by prime and Luigi’s mansion
What happens is prime 4 will sell bad and struggle to outsell dread because switch 2 wont have the install base and metroid is not that popular.
If the graphics are are good as anticipated then that will help Switch 2 sales.
Bring in some of the PS5/PC gamers to Nintendo who like AAA games with incredible graphics!
Metriod Prime 4 will likely sell more than Metriod Prime 1, 2, 3.
What happens is I buy a Switch 2 to be completely honest lol
Anything sooner than March 2025 is a massive mistake from Nintendo for a new console release.
With a Mario game coming this holiday, I don't see them launching next year unless they have a bad ass library planned for the first year of launch. It could happen, but I just don't see it.
@@randywilliams6248 Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Zelda, and Mario all have games this year - Splatoon 3 gets updates to the end of 2024.
So Nintendo's options for a 2024 launch line up would be... Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Metroid, F-Zero, Xenoblade, Kirby, and ARMS which none of that screams console seller; Kirby has a chance to do that, but mainly only in Japan.
@@MasterStaconaNintendo have been working on a 3D Mario game since after Mario Odyssey. So very likely a 3D Mario releases in 2024 shortly after the Switch 2 releases.
I fully expect Prime 4 to be a Switch 2 exclusive. It’s obvious.
The absolute max for sales prime 4 will sell is 5 mill units, terrible console seller
I thought rebooting in 2019 was a good call and I respected the transparency but at this point it’s time to shit or get off the pot. Show us something or just say it’s not coming. 4 years of radio silence is not acceptable.
It would be the ultimate anti-consumer move.
People like to throw around that term A LOT when it's not applicable, this would be a situation where it definitely would be.
Then what would you suggest would be the best consumer-friendly move, while still being viable from a business perspective?
@@TheRealRidley12 Cross-Gen or a next gen patch (they seemed to agree in the vid too). Perhaps release it on the Switch first in the summer then months later have a Switch 2 version ready for that console's launch.
If BotW still made it to the Wii-U and Halo Infinite to the Xbox One, MP4 can still make it to the current Switch,
@@gligarguy4010 I suppose that makes sense.
No, it wouldn't.
Nothing happen.
I wont buy it or the switch 2
