Does my **one** concern about a theoretical Switch 2 release make sense to you? Or do you not have the same concern? I’m very curious to hear where you guys land.
I’m not worried about this. Retro studios knows how to push hardware and I think a next gen Metroid prime 4 will look incredible. They aren’t as lazy as Nintendo when it comes to graphics.
I admit I have had a similar thought/concern before. But as much as I think it makes sense for MP4 to be a cross gen release, Nintendo has also only ever done it between systems of similar power where they could get away with it. That said, what if we get the best of both worlds? It releases as a Switch 1 game, but if you play it on Switch 2 it can access upgraded visuals for textures, lighting, resolution, etc. Taking advantage of higher power just like PC's and their higher settings. I could definitely see Retro pulling that off.
With the rumors I heard that it's visually unbelievable, I think they would want to make a way more powerful system to really showcase the game at its best.
The main difference here from twilight princess and breath of the wild, is that neither the Wii nor the switch offered much in the form of improved graphical power. Twilight princess was “improved” by way of motion controls, as well as a 16x9 presentation. Breath of the wild was made portable. That’s what these systems offered. If what we’ve heard of switch 2 is true, its main draw is going to be a bigger better screen and vastly improved processing. So my theory is that if they are different versions, it’s going to be the difference between 900p and 30fps vs 4k 60fps, which would be a tremendous improvement.
The only difference between Wii U's BOTW and Switch's BOTW was faster loading times on Switch and the Switch shirt Link could wear in the Switch version. Otherwise the games were the same.
My fear is that they lean too much into competitive multiplayer, and it ends up overtaking all of Metroid's identity. Now, I'm not saying I don't WANT multiplayer(heck, a lot of people will downright expect it, since it'll be a modern FPS). I'm just worried that the multiplayer will end up being so popular that it overshadows the singleplayer, which would be very bad because Metroid's whole thing is "Atmospheric isolationist adventure game, that just so happens to have shooter mechanics", and Metroid being seen as just another competitive shooter would work COMPLETELY against that.
Nah, i don't see Nintendo ruining the series identity for the sake of Multiplayer, specially as this is a highly anticipated game for a lot of fans, including me. Multiplayer will be one way of increasing MP4's longevity, and I hope they add DLC and more extra content as the time goes
@@barbaraziviani9123 I don't think they'll do that intentionally(key word "think", you never know), but if they DO add a multiplayer mode as a side thing, there's a chance ittle steal the spotlight unintentionally.
@@calvinbrinenestoris2357Well, there's no way to predict this happening. But I highly doubt that this will happen, if the focus is on the campaign and the multiplayer is just there to complement it, there is no way for multiplayer stealing the spotlight. Metroid Prime is a campaing focused game. It's not like Splatoon, in wich Multiplayer is the focus and the campaing the side thing. Halo also has a campaing and a multiplayer, and still, people praise the campaing (at least for the first three) and the multiplayer for different reasons. Yet, the first Halo is still played to this day BECAUSE of the campaing, not for the multiplayer.
@@barbaraziviani9123 This. Splatoon is already Nintendo's shooter series. They're not the type of company to pump of C.O.D style sequels (except Pokemon but that's a different situation)
how can Nintendo make a next gen version look so much different from a game made for the Switch? other than smoother graphics, better draw distance and lighting it really can't look all that much different
Oh you'd be surprised what 3D artists can do with a bit more processing power than before :D Especially with the Switch 2 allegedly being like several times faster as the OG switch in terms of raw power, BEFORE any upscaling tech like DLSS
They can literally add more polygons, better textures, different lighting, more post-processing effects ,etc... If the devs and nintendo care enough, the switch 2 version can do a lot more than just having better resolution, fps and draw distance. Entire enemy and character models can be reworked, level geometry, etc...
They can make it better, but it won’t be a cross gen release. Nintendo will make fans double drip. Release it on Switch in 2024, and then remaster it for the next gen console and release it again in 2029 or something.
I definitely and absolutely want the Switch 2 version to take more advantage of the hardware, but since Metroid Prime Remastered looked so good already, I'm not TOO worried if Prime 4 doesn't look much better than that. Especially since a lot of the awesome looking stuff will be BRAND NEW models we've never seen before in ANY way, instead of recreations of old gamecube ones. I think it's a bit of a toss-up on whether or not they actually DO beef it up for the Switch 2, though. On one end, Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild both looked the same on both systems they released on. But on the other hand, the Wii hardware wasn't much better than the GameCube hardware, nor was the Switch hardware much better than the Wii U hardware. The Switch 2 will be significantly more powerful than the Switch, so ittle make a lot more sense to beef up Prime 4 for the next-gen release, than it did for TP and BotW.
This was the exact same thing I was thinking about. I feel like if the Switch 2 is a decent amount more powerful than the current Switch, like the rumors suggest, it will have more of a difference in its cross-gen release than BOTW or TP.
I'm certain there won't be significant improvements on a switch 2 versión, it will run at FHD 60fps portable and 4k upscaled 60fps docked. Mark my words
There is another option. Again going with he backwards compatibility, maybe playing Switch games on the Switch 2 will be enhanced through AI upscaling? So a separate version doesn't need to be made.
@@TheBoltMaster456 Maybe not yet, but eventually AI shall surpass anything humans can come up with. If that wasn't the case, humans wouldn't bother heading towards Ai.
Im so excited for Metroid Prime 4 to come! I just hope that I'm not overhyping it just to feel let down by it when it finally comes out. But it'll be a day 1 purchase for me regardless
I think with Zelda they were both Japanese teams, and maybe that's why there was very little difference. With Metroid with it being Retro I wouldn't be surprised if they go balls deep with the next gen hardware and that's the specific reason that they've been so long with it. Either way I'm getting it and can't wait!
I can see them doing a version of Prime 4 that runs @ 720/30fps on the "old" Switch, and 1080p-4K/60fps on Switch 2, without any other added bells & whistles.
@@johnleonard9102 Just because they did something in the past doesn't mean it'll happen in the future. Especially if it's a cross-gen title, which none of the other Primes were. Other cross-gen titles from Nintendo like Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild have also always had similar graphical updates on the newer systems compared to the older ones they were originally intended for (albeit less pronounced because the differences weren't as big as the ones between Switch and Switch 2 will undoubtedly be). If Prime 4 comes to both Switch and its successor it's pretty unavoidable imo.
I believe you answered your own question. Of course mp4 will look similar on both switch2 and the current switch. Mp5 on switch2 might look a bit better (like totk compared to botw maybe).
I think that’s valid, Rob. My expectation for Switch 2 is that games will look 10% or so better but run much, much better than on Switch. If that’s the case then the best way to do a side by side comparison of a cross gen title is show an example where the old hardware cannot handle the frame rate but the new hardware can.
Just a 10% increase in graphics for new switch 2 games? Lol, if thats the case, then there's not even any point in releasing a switch 2 at all. It's not going to make a big enough jump to allow new third party games to be ported to it, nor will it be big enough to deliver greater experiences in first-party games.
Im not expecting significant improment on next gen. MP4 will look no matter what console it releases on but realistically I expect Nintendo to do the same game graphically on both consoles. MP4 needs to sell since it must have been so expensive to make. They don't want to hamper sales on current switch and at launch there is not enough install space on next switch. They'll probably do like 1080p 60fps on next switch and 720p/1080p 30fps on current. Either way I will be there day one and I will be happy XD
But if Super Switch will be marketed to improve the look of your Switch games and they will run better on Super Switch we could see a decent improvement in resolution and frame rates anyway. perhaps some AI grpahics improvements and lighting with ray tracing.
I'm not sure who shared this info (SMD64 ?) that certain games, Mario Odissey for instance, have dynamic resolution so, It adapts to max device resolution, portable or docked. If MP4 was built to be cross generation and supports dynamic resolution, there's a big chance that it's going to look better on Switch 2. Besides this, the rumored native DSLL in Switch 2 will also have a big impact on graphics output so, there's a big chance of new cross gen games look way better in the new hardware due to embeded technologies. My concern is to feel the urge of buying two copies of the same game in a short period of time but, is something I already did with Prime remaster because, Just like you, I bought a digital copy on day 1, and a physical copy two weeks after. In the end, It doesn't matter how much Nintendo is going to get from my pocket, as soon as we enjoy playing Prime 4.
Cannot fear anything that will never happen in the first place. Metroid Prime 4 will be Switch only, and besides they made the game for the Switch anyways so it will run, look, and play the same regardless. Ever since the DS and Wii, Nintendo has been making their consoles play the previous generation games, the DS had 2 cartridge slots on launch and the Wii had slots for GameCube controllers and memory cards. So even completely different consoles, they still do backwards compatibility. Switch is a single screen console and went back to cartridges so it couldn't play 3DS games or Wii U games... though that Nintendo new DS patent could have a 3DS cartridge slot added to it and play 3DS, DS, and Switch games...
Metroid Prime Remastered is a better looking game than anything we've gotten on the PS5 or Xbox series, So I don't have any concerns about the switch holding back Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime Remaster could only look so good on the Switch because the entire game is based on tiny rooms, sized for Gamecube hardware and constantly having to be separated by doors in order to reload. In order for Metroid Prime 4 to come close to this graphical quality, it would have to have a similar structure and that would make the game feel very old-fashioned. I expect that the world will still functionally work like a labyrinth, but that it will be visibly in one piece, that the places will flow seamlessly into one another and are connected, so that, for example, you can see from one part of the world to another, or that in the end through space jump something like an open world emerges. In order to make a game like this look as good as Metroid Prime Remaster, it needs the hardware of the successor console. A version for the current Switch could only benefit to a limited extent graphically from a next gen version simply because the game should already run at 60 fps on the old console. The two Zeldas are also not good comparisons in that the hardware leaps from the Gamecube to the Wii and from the Wii U to the Switch weren't all that big.
Metroid was ALWAYS room based. The original Metroid, super Metroid, etc are all rooms separated by doors. I could be wrong but I doubt prime 4 will be one open world, it will probably be on the same scope as the original trilogy.
@@TimDespairBear11 I find it difficult to convey how I imagine it. In terms of gameplay, the game shouldn't feel any different than the old ones. The world itself should continue to be a nested network of paths in which you progress further as your equipment increases. But from a technical point of view, this world should be implemented differently. Due to the technical limitations, even the outdoor areas on the Gamecube felt like indoor spaces because they were surrounded by walls and separated from each other by doors. If the world were made of one piece, you could see a structure like the flying city of Elysia from the ground. Perhaps there would be a rock wall somewhere beneath a volcano with a waterfall into which a spaceship had crashed and become stuck, and whose interior flowed seamlessly into a cave system. The world could expand much more horizontally, canyons could replace many walls and doors. The Metroid gameplay would remain, but the world would feel much more organic, like a connected real-world maze.
@@wihatmi5510 I see what you're saying, but it is important to remember that Metroid is about exploring not only the world, but also the structures of alien civilizations. But mostly the marriage of those two together. How alien civilizations built into and around the world. This connective tissue is what creates the corridor style gameplay.
Im expecting for them to sale us a arm cannon for us to put our joycons inside and be even more Immersed into the game play we at least deserve that option for waiting almost a decade
Shot in the dark here. If the Switch Too, yes that should be the name, has vr functionality then it wouldn't NEED to look better. The pimax portal can do it, thats a gaming handheld, and they say the next console will have possibly ps4 power and they have vr. Why not nintendo. They paved the way for motion controls, 3d gaming and portable gaming. It's not THAT far fetched when you think about it. Metroid prime 4 with ps4 graphics and the option to play it in vr? So wild.
Haven’t quite gotten to finish the vid, so maybe this gets mentioned! But thankfully a big difference with the two prior examples and now is that the hardware power gap in the Zelda examples was minor to begin with, (GameCube to Wii, Wii U to switch) so even if they tried, because of the hardware, they couldn’t have made it look *that* much better… but now we’re looking at a hardware change that probably has power at the heart of it!
I fear it's quite likely there are no improvements. It may be like botw where it runs smoothly only on switchyswitch, which of course is the actual name of the switch 2.
If this was any other game besides Metroid Prime, then I would be concerned too. But considering it IS Metroid Prime, and a sequel after over 15 years since the last game at that, and considering how the devs of the Metroid Prime series, Retro Studios, always managed to push the hardware of whatever system the game came out on to its absolute limits, then I'm not worried one bit. I'm fully expecting Metroid Prime 4 to be an absolute system seller for the Switch 2 just purely based off how much better it will look compared to the Switch 1 version. It'll also be a great chance to prevent another Wii U situation again by showcasing what the Switch 2 can do that the Switch 1 CAN'T, which they failed to do so when marketing the Wii U and launching it which caused people to not understand what the Wii U was and think that it's some add-on accessory to the Wii rather than a completely new next-gen console.
Something to note: There have been many games, many major releases, that were cross-gen. And Often times I see the older console version being recommended the most.
Hey Rob, thank you for making these MP4 videos throughout the years, it has helped me cope with the delay. Hope we see the game soon! If i recall correctly, Retro Studios hired the ex-supervisor for the ports on switch, from Panic Button. Rember all of the switch Pro talk? Well, MP4 might have been in development for it from the start, then Covid happened and switch pro became switch Oled. This is where the guy i mentioned above comes in: MP4 already being a Next-Gen game from the start, Retro will need to do a port of the game to OG Switch. I might be wrong tough, and MP4 may have a Next-Gen patch of some sort. Well, we have to wait and see, but im holpefull Mp4 use the extra horse power of the switch 2
@@NuiYabuko yes, Digital Foundry has an entire video on this here on RUclips. Nintendo just didn't release switch Pro because of the chip shortages that ocurred during the pandemic, and to avoid another Wii U situation.
Honestly, at this point my expectations have changed thanks to the huge amount of time this game is taking to release. 2 years ago i would be fine if it only released on regular switch, as long as it looked jaw dropping for that console. Nowadays, not so much. Prime remastered showcased to me that retro studios, with enough hardware power, can make games that rival that of ps5. They are just that talented. Maybe not necessarily rival it in resolution and texture fidelity, but in art style, lighting and geometry? Definitely. If the game isnt an exclusive to switch 2, then i would still wish for the switch 2 version to look a lot better and showcase the graphical power of the next console. Nintendo would be pretty stupid to waste retro studios's talent and potential, since they are by far the best studio when it comes to graphics that nintendo has under their belt. Use them and use prime 4 to be a hardware showcase. This helps nintendo business-wise, and gives us, the consumers and fans, something great aswell. It's a win win, as long as they have enough faith in the metroid franchise and are willing to spend the money to polish 2 different versions.
Regarding twilight princess on GC and Wii, the hardware differences between those systems aren't extremely significant. Similarly, regarding Breath of The wild, hardware differences between WiiU and Switch aren't enormous either. Switch 2, according to the most well accepted baseline hardware information leaked (either an Nvidia T239 or even better a custom SoC), is supposed to be several times more capable than the current Switch. That element, together with the scalability of current game engines, and the amount of time and talent put into this game, makes me believe that if MP4 is indeed a cross gen game, then it'll have remarkable graphical differences between the current gen vs next gen versions. Keep up your great work!
If this is what you are concerned about with Metroid Prime 4, then it might be a good idea to temper expectations. First off: I’m not so sure it will be a cross-gen game. The 2024 lineup is still unknown and I’m still expecting MP4 to be announced on Switch. And I think it will be a Switch exclusive as a way to prop up the Switch for the time that’s still left as a flagship console. Nintendo has generally gone cross-gen for games on consoles that have performed under expectations. You need to cast the widest net possible when consoles are struggling, like the GameCube and Wii U did when games went cross-gen there. The Switch doesn’t have this problem so they will want to make it a Switch tentpole release. As far as the visual quality of MP4 itself, I’m as sure as you are that it will look great on Switch. But any cross-gen dual release won’t look significantly better as this is the precedent. The next gen will have just started and it takes time (years even) to optimize games to take advantage of new hardware. So that’s what I think about a dual release. But I don’t think we will have to worry about that as I don’t think it will be a dual release. I could see a scenario where a MP4 remastered comes out significantly better on the Switch successor that could blow the Switch version away, but this would come out years after the Switch MP4 release. For better or for worse, this is the Nintendo way. I could be wrong of course. If I am, then it’s a win for the fans anyway.
One important thing to keep in mind is that the Wii was barely more powerful than the GameCube, so it wasn't really possible to make Twilight Princess look a lot better on the Wii. The Switch is also not that much more powerful than the Wii U, so it was a similar situation for Breath of the Wild. With Switch 2, we're talking about a system that may be up to ten times more powerful than the current Switch. Therefore they should be able to make Metroid Prime 4 look a lot better with the much more powerful hardware, even if it started its development on the current Switch. I strongly believe it will look amazing, and I hope you'll be able to record your live reaction to when they finally reveal it! Keep up the great content man!
Here’s my dream MP4: 1. Releases on Switch 2 with powerhouse graphics. 2. As open world as possible. 3. Bring back the hunters from the DS game. 4. Makes Samus a silent stoic badass. 5. Possible PVP. (another good reason to include the hunters. I’m telling you those hunters are a gold mine for Metroid.) 6. Mostly tank controls with modern updates probably some melee attacks and combos.
@@cwega2463 it depends on how it’s done. I suppose in all realisticness it will be a dual stick shooter. For a game like this to function well in combat I would imagine a combination of lock on with roaming with the off stick. Now that I’m typing this it almost certainly will be a twin stick but Nintendo is known for motion gimmicks. I’m not sure what that would mean for MP4 specifically
I think there are a couple things worth considering that weren't brought up in this video. First, there really isn't that big of a power jump going from GCN to Wii, or Wii U to Switch. I think that could be at least part of the reason why TP and BotW look the same in there respective cross-gen releases. Second, we can look at what the other consoles have done with cross-gen releases. For instance, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok look pretty much identical going from PS4 to PS5. The law of diminishing returns plays a role here, but there's no question those games could have looked better on PS5 (especially if the PS4 wasn't holding them back). But maybe there are other examples that show the opposite is true, idk. I think that a hypothetical "Switch 2" release of MP4 would offer little to no improvement over the Switch release. Maybe a higher resolution or more stable framerate, but I doubt there would be any noticeable difference aside from that.
Basically same as you. I would definitely prefer the Switch 2 version of the game to be an improvement over the Switch version, but if it's at least on par with Prime Remastered, or, hopefully, even better, I'll be happy.
I thought I was the only one worried about this too… I did put aside my fears though because until I see the art style I needn’t worry as some art styles lend themselves better to starker visual contrast in improved hardware for example if the game is more stylised it will be more noticeable if it has higher frame rates and techniques like ray tracing & another version don’t MORE so than a common realism art style would
I would prefer MP4 on Switch 2 exclusively that could be a fantastic showcase for the console. With dlss and raytracing, I wish for MP4 to be the most beautiful game to date on 60 fps.
Personally I'm happy if Prime 4 is "just" at Prime Remastered level graphics. I want stylization and immersion and good gameplay over perfect photorealism.
I get your point, but...I mean, Prime 3 looked already very good in 2007 being even SD, that's 17 years ago with "ancient" Wii technology. Then we had Prime Remastered on Switch which many consider the best looking Switch game now and I'm sure Prime 4 will look even better...the graphics are really the last thing I worry about with a new game made by Retro Studios, they always got the most out of the hardware. Yes, it always can be better, but still the jump will be big and there are a lot of other things that are way more important. I for one really hope they let Yamamoto make another epic soundtrack...if Metroid lacked one thing in recent years, it was that. "Other M"'s biggest flaw to me is not the usual complaints, but having almost none real soundtrack at all, and "Samus Returns" and "Dread" also didn't really have the catchiest soundtracks, they were okay but far from amazing music like in Super, Fusion or Prime. THAT is what I hope most for in Prime 4, getting amazing new tracks like Phendrana Drifts, Torvus Bog, Sanctuary Fortress, Elysia, Rundas Boss Theme etc. etc.!
I would be a *little* disappointed if next-gen Prime 4 isn’t a noticeable step up visually, but this is about a 10% consideration for me. I appreciate next-gen fidelity (currently appreciating GoW Ragnorok on my PS5 - I thought the PS4 version looked great, but WOW), but at the end of the day gameplay is king for me. Having just finally played through Prime 1 Remaster, I would be perfectly content if the game looked like that. Speaking of that, I think it’s well worth discussing whether the Remaster “engine”, so to speak, is what Retro / Iron Galaxy built as the foundation for Prime 4. That Retro was involved (not just Iron Galaxy) *and* that Remaster came out on what was at least the original platform for Prime 4 lends a lot of credence to this idea. Unless 4 is going to be vastly different than the trilogy, why develop two “engines”? What I want now is Prime 2 Remastered, though! Definitely want to replay 2 and 3 (my favorite Metroid game!) before 4, but I no longer have them. Having 2 and 3 remastered would be so freaking sick.
I do expect next gen switch to be a bigger graphical leap than GC-Wii and Wii U - Switch. I’m hoping next gen will have ray tracing which would look fantastic on MP4, but not holding my breath. I trust in Retro more than any other Nintendo studio to push the graphics.
It depends on the size of the areas. Larger areas like we are hearing I suspect graphics on par with prime remake comparing Super Switch to Switch versions.
Only thing is, Nintendo would want to showcase a good reason to commit to the next gen Switch so having them more or less the same would be a huge blow to the early days of the "Switch 2", so I'd say even if it comes in the form of a day one patch, they'd be hurting the game and the new console
The problem with your theory is that the Wii and GameCube and Wii U and Switch didn't have that big of a jump specs wise. If the rumors are true, The Switch 2 will basically be a PS4+ in handheld mode and a PS4 pro+ in docked mode( the plus comes from the rumored 12Gbs of RAM and the much faster CPU.) The graphical difference will be immense and as a result, make visual difference look very striking.
The framerate on botw in korok forest was horrid but we dont talk about that lol totks masterhand is also another frame drop galore. I think with retro studios though they work magic im not worried about how itll look between the two systems as I have full confidence it wont drops frames, and look visually pleasing just like prime remastered.
I was always expecting metroid prime 4 to look almost the same on switch and switch 2 if it's a cross gen release, because that's what nintendo has always done with these cross gen games as you said. So i wouldn't care cause I probably would be picking up the game on switch 1 anyway.
My only fear about this game is that they won't keep true to the prime trilogy interpretation of samus who felt more calm and nuanced. Dread dialed the stoicism way too much that it felt jarring to watch, knowing that the other games never went that far. Seeing people praise this online though has me doubting that they will stick to the trilogy guns and take a page from dread.
I suspect that this wont be that big of an issue. While it could be cross generation, I suspect it's more likely to be a launch title only. MP3 was a launch title for the Wii to show off the Wii's capabilities and motion controls. I think that's what is going to happen with MP4 to show off the hardware upgrade and how much better things will look and run on the Switch. MP2 and MP3 feel much more likely to me as cross gen releases. If not, I'm not entirely sure why they have sat on MP4 for so long. ...unless, the (probably) erroneous rumor that the game was having development trouble... but I don't really think that is warranted. I wouldn't mind it if it doesn't look too much better than MP1 Remastered, however. I'm far more concerned with the devs having good artistic direction than the graphic capabilities the game runs into. That's usually far more important, and a major reason so many games, including the original MP1 but going back to even the NES still look good: it's about the artistic choices. Granted the original MP1 was a top notch use of the GameCube's graphics, but there's a reason so many people picked up the remastered version and went, "wow! this is exactly how I always thought Tallon IV did look": the art direction sold us to what the graphics couldn't get to. My biggest fear is still that they might try to turn it into a FPS or merely everyone taking it to be one just take it to be just because it is first person and involves shooting. It'd be too big and unnecessary of a genre jump, but even the impression it is an FPS in terms of genre if it isn't could get it reviewed poorly. This is something we've seen with some reviews of MP1 Remastered, where some reviewers didn't understanding it wasn't designed to be an FPS (mostly this comes up with combat and control scheme discussions, as well as missing emphasis the game is taking to immerse the player and encourage exploration). My main reason for this concern is the suspected multiplayer functionality of the game. Now, the multiplayer doesn't mean it has force the game into an FPS genre, but it could be seen as too similar to not just force it. Hopefully, this fear is just baseless, and MP4 will supplant MP1 as my favorite game of all time and bring the metroidvania genre to all new heights (I might just explode if MP4 an Silksong both do this in the same year...)
Prime 4 needs to be like Splinter Cell Double Agent was for Xbox and the 360. The Switch version should look like the Prime Remaster and the Switch 2 be Next Gen.
Well the question is, What if it's the same game on both consoles but they have more visual effects activated and 1080p upscale on the next console and stable 60fps Would it be enough?
Hey Rob I have that same fear and there has to be a game like metroid prime 4 to make a graphical difference just to make want to a next gen console. Also yes I would be happy just to have mp4 but there has to show a difference.
Oh wow... now I feel bad. I bought the Physical Copy of Prime Remaster on Day 1 and I still haven't opened it. (it's absolutely a Top 3 Game for me...) I can't believe it's been a year, no time!
I saw the date of the Physical Release, went online and clicked some buttons, a few days later it was on my doorstep... The idea of a "backlog" shouldn't be that crazy. The point as you asked, was to support a Franchise that I love with my wallet, which is the only support that really matters. As far as playing it, chill bro, I'll get to it. I've already finished it a few times so when the time is right I'll have a blast with the Remaster.
@@DubKings bro it was just a normal question don’t get so defensive :/ i’ve personally never understood backlogs, i just buy games when i wanna play them and don’t buy in bulk what i think i might play in the future. but each to their own. i was just curious jesus.
I think I answered accordingly. If you question somebody's choices, they will defend them. So by nature of the conversation, I guess I was defensive. I definitely have a problem with buying way too many games when they're on a good sale, Black Friday and such. That said, the only time I buy a game at Full Price is when I know I'm going to actually play it, right then. In the entirety of last year but 2 Games new at Full Price, TotK and FF16. Having a legit Game Library at the ready works well for me, though as said there is nvr enough time.
My issue if Prime 4 is an early next gen exclusive is that I might not be able to play it day one because I might have to wait for the console to become available on my region without paying for scalper prices online.
Metroid Prime Remastered looks way better than the Metroid Prime fan-made render, the fan-made version just made a lot more things shiny which makes it appear like it is better looking since your mind associates shiny with valuable things like gold and diamonds. The Fan-mad metroid prime video is basically just an animation and cannot be played as a game. Like if Retro made a pre-rendered cutscene they can make metroid prime look way better since the device only needs to replay a video and is not rendering all of the 3D assets, animations, lightning, physics, etc. at the same time and instead is just playing a ton of 2D images together which is a lot less demanding.
makes sense that the graphics will be kind of similar because switch 2 will be double as powerful as switch 1 so that they can render the game two times for each eye. Because the next system will be AR VR only haha 😂
Mmmm the difference is the GameCube and the Wii where basically the same power wise same with Wii u and switch, we expect switch 2 to be significantly more powerful then the switch.
It's 100% going to look mostly the same on both versions. The Switch 2 will probably run it at a higher res, and maybe framerate. This is why I'm hoping they just skip the switch and develop it fully fir the new hardware. I doubt that will happen though.
It's just gonna have anti aliasing, ray tracing, better textures, draw distance etc. Nothing too generational leaping since it's the same game but it'll look better. That's my prediction
What would happen if Nintendo said that we finally finished Metroid prime 4 but we didn't like what we see and decided to scrape it and start from scratch we're expecting a release date around 2032
I'm very sorry to say, but yeah I think Nintendo RUclipsrs are making a big mistake thinking Metroid Prime 4 will look significantly better on Switch 2 vs Switch 1. I think Nintendo will absolutely add ray tracing to the Switch 2 version and improve the visuals, but in the end its still a game built primarily for Switch 1 and the graphics will show it. They're not going to redo all the textures or geometry, that's unreasonable, they'd have to rebuild the whole game. Metroid Prime 4 will not be the graphical showcase for Switch 2, 3D Mario will be.
The other problem with making a Switch version look so much better would make less people buy the Switch version which would hurt sales. If both are equal the sales will be more equal as people wont feel like hey now I can't afford the new system yet and I bought a Switch for Prime 4, now I'm getting the weaker version? DICK MOVE!!! So I see this as the reason why cross gen games before with Nintendo have been equal. They don't want to split their own fanbase and piss off some people, they want to give everyone the same experience.
To my limited knowledge...most cross-gen games are pretty similar. Maybe faster loading or better frame rates. But if you said the game looks great on the switch......how could they improve the graphics much without having a different version for the new system?
Rob, are you cursed? Lots of Devs are saying Nintendo is pushing the Switch 2, to early 2025, because they want enough games ready. You kept predicting the Oled release date, and it got canceled, you kept predicting the Switch 2 launch, and kept getting it wrong... and maybe, just maybe you might be wrong again.
some of this thinking is a bit misguided rob. nintendo isnt going to release a version of MP4 alongside the switch version that undermines the switch version. the switch version has the highest sales potential of any metroid game ever, and, if the metroid franchise needs anything, its sales victories. nintendo would not release a version of MP4 that no one would genuinely crave and that would generally be perceived as a lackluster alternative. if a version of MP4 released alongside the switch version, it would be virtually identical to the switch version so that the 2 versions would largely be perceived as identical in value. an enhanced edition of MP4 would materialize in 1 of 3 ways - as a rerelease several years after the switch release, as a downloadable patch available exclusively to owners of new hardware, or as the switch version itself automatically when running on new hardware.
It won’t matter at all! Nintendo is already vastly underpowered. It’s not about the graphical performance with Nintendo. They just make amazing games. Metroid Prime 4 will be amazing as well.
while graphical performance doesn’t matter, how the games run do. there’s no way a seemingly next gen game like Prime 4 could look and run amazingly on switch 1. there’s literally no harm in a more powerful version of the switch
The next console SHOULD not be a switch 2. The switch SHOULD take over duties as the offical handheld (oled only from here on out), replacing the 3ds. The new console SHOULD BE PS6 grade to continue domination in the market. Metroid Prime 4 SHOULD BE released on the new docked only console; it SHOULD NOT be an MMO like the rumors i have read as of late.
I love you, and I don't personally have a problem with that. But you stretch your videos a little long. If you wanna grow at a certain pace I think you should try to do a few shorts. Just as an entry point for new viewers.
The problem with the examples that you used is the Wii and the GameCube are very similar power wise. The same goes with the WiiU and the Switch. This isn’t the case for the switch and the Switch2. Hopefully the Switch 2 is significantly better than the Switch. This doesn’t mean that the the game won’t end up performing the same on both consoles, just that the examples you used for your reasoning doesn’t really apply here
Does my **one** concern about a theoretical Switch 2 release make sense to you?
@@Hatchet2k4basically like a next-gen patch or upgrade. If it’s backward compatible then I could see it. It’s the dream.
to be fair, between gamecube and wii, it was a 10% gap in power only. between switch tv and wii u, its a 33% gap in power. wii to wii u, it was 450%
More Rob means more Metroid talk!! Happy 1 Year since Metroid Prime Remastered!!!
Huzzah! 🎉
The frame rate was a lot better on the switch version I think.
@@theblowupdollsmusicI have both versions. I saw no difference in frame rate.

Oh you'd be surprised what 3D artists can do with a bit more processing power than before :D
Especially with the Switch 2 allegedly being like several times faster as the OG switch in terms of raw power, BEFORE any upscaling tech like DLSS
you said it yourself. better lighting, models and textures is it. that’s a lot.
@@cwega2463 that's good enough for me. Just a higher polygon budget, larger texture assets.
Agreed 💯... I'd still be happy with that though
@@Las_cacas Me too !
We have reached the point of deminishing returns. Now I expect improvements in other areas, like load times and framerates.
There is another option. Again going with he backwards compatibility, maybe playing Switch games on the Switch 2 will be enhanced through AI upscaling? So a separate version doesn't need to be made.
AI upscaling won't do the same as developers making a game specifically with next gen in mind
AI Upscaling is not the same as devs actually putting in real hard work into developing new better looking assets to run at higher resolution.
They won't make it 30fps after all the previous games were 60fps
@@johnleonard9102 Just because they did something in the past doesn't mean it'll happen in the future. Especially if it's a cross-gen title, which none of the other Primes were. Other cross-gen titles from Nintendo like Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild have also always had similar graphical updates on the newer systems compared to the older ones they were originally intended for (albeit less pronounced because the differences weren't as big as the ones between Switch and Switch 2 will undoubtedly be). If Prime 4 comes to both Switch and its successor it's pretty unavoidable imo.
@@thierrys85there was no difference in framerate between Wiiu and Switch versions.
@@trashaimgamer7822 There was a difference in certain places like Korok Forest, and the resolution was different.
I think your mind will be blown then :)
@@basementreviewer788 The leap is going to be far bigger than 10%, we know most of the SoC specs already.
Keep this channel the way it is no ckickbait :)
Metroid Prime Remastered is a better looking game than anything we've gotten on the PS5 or Xbox series, So I don't have any concerns about the switch holding back Metroid Prime 4
it looks really good, but not THAT good. delusional nintendo fan
What makes you think that the jump from Switch to the successor will be any different?
Could be just as little of a jump in hardware power.
@@TimDespairBear11Another good point.
The power difference will be considerable between the switch and switch 2 unlike the gamecube/ wii or the wiiu/ switch
we've already waited this long... I want switch 2 optimized launch title, that's my dream anyway
I think that’s a fair request.

So wild.
Damn vr Metroid would blow my mind... I'd never leave the world nor my house.
Honestly, I would want the graphics and art style to be like Zelda BOTW. I think it would make the beautiful environments stand out.
Developers never had the chance to build this game as a next-gen Switch 2 game so why would you expect it to be?
12:55 Ngl I would love to play Metroid Prime 4 on the Lynx or Virtual Boy. Very underappreciated consoles.
Oh trust me…same here. I wasn’t even joking. 😂
Hey Rob, if the ending of metroid prime 3 never had sylux in the ending, would you've still wanted a metroid prime 4? 🤔
Absolutely! Remember we don’t even know for sure that Sylux will be part of Prime 4’s story. (Although it’s definitely most likely)
Well, if Retro Studio uses he same engine what was used for Prime 1 Remastered, then Prime 4 may end up looking graphically like Prime 1.
No point in cross gen release with backwards compatibility. Just have all four be playable on both Switch and the new system.
Some people are worried about appearence of switch 2's platform, but what about perfomance?
You are very welcome. Happy to be providing this service to my fellow Metroid fans. 🫡
Is there any proof there was a Pro that became the OLED?

I can’t believe it’s been a year since MPR came out. 😮
Same I thought it was like 6 months ago
First off:
I’m not so sure it will be a cross-gen game.
Here’s my dream MP4:
1. Releases on Switch 2 with powerhouse graphics.
2. As open world as possible.
3. Bring back the hunters from the DS game.
4. Makes Samus a silent stoic badass.
5. Possible PVP. (another good reason to include the hunters. I’m telling you those hunters are a gold mine for Metroid.)
6. Mostly tank controls with modern updates probably some melee attacks and combos.
had me until tank controls. what an awful idea.
I thought I was the only one worried about this too…
I did put aside my fears though because until I see the art style I needn’t worry as some art styles lend themselves better to starker visual contrast in improved hardware for example if the game is more stylised it will be more noticeable if it has higher frame rates and techniques like ray tracing & another version don’t MORE so than a common realism art style would
Nah, Retro will surprise everyone, Prime 4 will look worse, it will be a stick figure game!
I would prefer MP4 on Switch 2 exclusively that could be a fantastic showcase for the console.
With dlss and raytracing, I wish for MP4 to be the most beautiful game to date on 60 fps.
I'm still holding out hope for Prime 2 and 3 remasters (or at least ports, but hopefully remasters) to current gen Switch.
At this point I hope that when they rebooted development, they decided for it to be a switch 2 only title..
I hope not. They advertised it as a switch title so it better be on switch.
If the rumors are true, The Switch 2 will basically be a PS4+ in handheld mode and a PS4 pro+ in docked mode( the plus comes from the rumored 12Gbs of RAM and the much faster CPU.)
The graphical difference will be immense and as a result, make visual difference look very striking.
MP3 was not a Wii launch title lmao what are you talking about. it came out almost a year after the console did.
Hopefully all us Metroid fans can rest easy with whatever February brings us
If there even is a direct this February.
(it's absolutely a Top 3 Game for me...) I can't believe it's been a year, no time!
what’s the point in buying games if you never even open them, nevermind play
I saw the date of the Physical Release, went online and clicked some buttons, a few days later it was on my doorstep... The idea of a "backlog" shouldn't be that crazy.
The point as you asked, was to support a Franchise that I love with my wallet, which is the only support that really matters.
As far as playing it, chill bro, I'll get to it. I've already finished it a few times so when the time is right I'll have a blast with the Remaster.
@@DubKings bro it was just a normal question don’t get so defensive :/
i’ve personally never understood backlogs, i just buy games when i wanna play them and don’t buy in bulk what i think i might play in the future. but each to their own. i was just curious jesus.
I am of the mindset of graphics are not as important as gameplay... but with that being said i agree...
If this next Switch has ray tracing of some sort that could make for crazy lighting effects in mp4 on the Switch2 not possible on the original Switch.
My issue if Prime 4 is an early next gen exclusive is that I might not be able to play it day one because I might have to wait for the console to become available on my region without paying for scalper prices online.
They took pre-orders for prime 4 for years. I would assume it is definitely coming to the OG switch. They would have to give everyone's money back.
I think metriod will look the same on both no questions but i can't wait
Are you worried about sales at all? Or is this the best case scenario for a Metroid game (assuming switch2 will be similarly successful)?
makes sense that the graphics will be kind of similar because switch 2 will be double as powerful as switch 1 so that they can render the game two times for each eye. Because the next system will be AR VR only haha 😂
I mean, who wouldn’t wanna play Metroid Red on the VitualBoy 😂
I want it to look good. As good as that unreal engine remake. Also 60 fps.
What would happen if Nintendo said that we finally finished Metroid prime 4 but we didn't like what we see and decided to scrape it and start from scratch we're expecting a release date around 2032
I don’t see Nintendo creating an “HD” version of Metroid Prime. I think it will run better. 60fps and stuff. That’s it
I fell like nintendo should have choiced to remaster the whole trilogy istead of leaking MP4 trailer cause they are in devoleper purgatory
So. So what if the game played the same in both consoles ?
Yes I’d be disappointed if it was the same on both gens. I’d probably prefer to play it on my switch OLED.
Jesus Christmas that was a year ago?!?!?
I'm pretty sure I've heard that the GameCube and Wii had the same processor. I don't think TP could have looked better
The game started development on Switch 1. Of course it's not going to take advantage of the Switch 2 power. Lol
I hope it's not cross Gen. Metroid Prime 4 should be a Switch 2 exclusive. Launch window game
Metroid Prime 4 is a lose-lose situation for Retro Studios because the company has been bleeding talent for years.
I still think metroid prime 4 is 2025
The next console SHOULD not be a switch 2.
Olny a year? I still want Japanese boxart for show i guess? Because i have mine digital...
