      Then this might be worth trying. Just make sure to introduce it slowly, the irritation with retinoids usually comes suddenly after 1-2 weeks.

    I prefer the Collagen & Retinol Serum. I have normal to combination skin. Sensitive. I’ve heard The Ordinary is better when it comes to Retinoids, but too scared to try more high impact products...

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +1

      I have no experience with the retinols from The Ordinary, but as far as I know they do have some gentler versions available as well. The Collagen & Retinol Serum is one I haven’t tried myself.

    Hello Dr. Anne,
    My nightly routine is toning, serum, and hyaluronic acid. Should I apply this retinol oil before or after the hyaluronic acid? Thank you!

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +1

      That depends. Usually your actives should go first for maximum results, but if you are beginner it could be beneficial to apply it last to reduce the risk for irritation. Try what works best for your skin type. I have a video that explains that in depth, it is from the Ask Doctor Anne series and focuses on the correct order to layer your skincare.

    Hi Dr. ANNE What Do You Recommend For Dark Spots On Face Also Does Retinol Oil Causes Brake Outs?

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  3 года назад +2

      I will start a video series on hyperpigmentation later this week and no, retinol oil doesn´t cause breakouts by default, but of course your skin can disagree with any product, which could lead to breakouts.

  • @lindaackerman3507

    Dr Ann, I use differin gel and olay retinol 24 at night , do you think these are good?...what over the counter retinol cream or serums do you recommend, I can handle stronger ones.

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +2

      If you use Differin Gel, I don´t see why you would need to use another retinol product - are you worried the Differin won´t do enough in terms of anti-aging? Differin is the closest you come to prescription (in fact in Germany it is still prescription), so using an OTC Retinol doesn´t make much sense to me.But if you want to try combining both, look for serums that contain Retinal as in retinaldehyde, this is the strongest form you can get OTC. I have no personal recommendations as I have not tried any of them myself.

    • @lindaackerman3507
      @lindaackerman3507 4 года назад

      Yes, correct, I figure because the differin percentage is so low at 0.1 it won't really help with antiaging benefits, it says nothing about antiaging on the notes inside , strictly talks about acne....thats why Im asking..sprry for confusion.

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +1

      @@lindaackerman3507 no worries. It is unclear how many anti-aging benefits Differin has, as it only binds to two out of three retinol receptors. The concentration however ist fine. But because of that uncertainty with anti-aging I switched from Differin to Tretinoin about a year ago, that way I have anti-aging and anti-acne. Tretinoin is more irritating though, but doing that switch is probably better than pairing Differin with an OTC retinoid. I explain more in my video about the different retinoids, in case you haven’t seen that yet.

    Thank you for this. Started using this a week a go. Never used a retinoid before so I didn’t know what to expect. It can’t be that strong, I was embracing myself for the “retinoids uglies”, lol. But all it have done so far is to nourish my dry skin. Can’t complain, because it has helped but after this bottle I’m trying something stronger

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +3

      Yes, I felt the same way. I like it when I want something a little gentler than my prescription. What do you want to go for next? Have you seen my video on the different kinds of retinoids and their strength and uses yet? It might help you with deciding what to look for.

      Doctor Anne Thank you! I appreciate it :) I’m completely new to skincare really, and it’s very confusing. I’ve always just used a simple cleanser and moisturizer. Do you have a video on products you can/can’t use together? Like retinol + aha/bha exfoliants etc? I find that quite scary and from what I’ve read online it’s not a definite answer. I’m scared to ruin my skin. Thank you for taking your time to answer!

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +3

      I don’t have a video, but will do one in the future. The answer is fairly simple though: You CAN use everything together, but it is sensible not to mix different actives. I would use a strong Retinoid, a strong Vitamin C or a chemical exfoliant each on their own and pair them with humectants (Glycerin it Hyaluronic Acid) and/or with Niacinamide, both of which help sooth the skin.
      And if you want to be on the extra safe side, wait for everything to dry down in between application.
      How old are you if you don’t mind me asking? Depending on your age you don’t yet need everything anyway.

    Would you recommend Dr.Dennis Gross retinol serum with ferulic acid, people say good things about it, its quite expensive at $88.00.

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +3

      I have used it about a year ago and really liked the effect on my skin, so yes, I would recommend it. It also contains Arbutin, and the combination of Retinol, Arbutin and Ferulic Acid made my skin noticeable brighter. I am on prescription Tretinoin now, but before that it was among my favorite retinol products.

    What would you recommend for very dry premature rapidly aging skin ?

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 года назад +2

      Identify the source first: Are yu lacking natural oils due to overcleansing? Do you need more hydration? Do you smoke or have sun damage? Is it medication that makes your skin so dry? And then work from there.
