I can quit watching RUclips now... every tone I ever really wanted is in this video.
One of the best and most informative videos in ages. Loved the consistency from using a single cabinet and mic. The Fender held up really well too despite being half the price. Thanks guys!
Mick doesn't get enough credit, he's great!
Mick is an AWESOME player.... And and amazing guy....
*gal
Yeah, I could rant and rave about Pete all day, but Mick is a fantastic player as well.
Yes mick is very good
@@andertons He's a little cranky too.
The JTM sounds glorious to my ears.
I think that Marshall is the best sounding amp that I have heard on this channel
Completly agree!
Michael Mc I agree, but I'll bet these two could make a line6 sound better than most!
i have one with a 1960ax cab (4x12'' greenback), just unbelievable, with the volume passing 6 the distortion begins and it destroy the competition. When i bought it i start selling the others i had.
Yeah the Fender is an excellent amp for the money, and I love the clarity and versatility of the Sheriff. But that Marshall is a freaking monster. It's just simply amazing.
I own one (JTM 45) and it is a superb reissue..
Those intro tones are the sounds I've been waiting to hear all of my life. wow
hey guys. This is one of my favorite shows you've done. With knowledge and playing to suit. Thx,J.
The Jtm sounded absolutely spectacular. Both these guys play unbelievable guitar..Pete in particular blows my mind.
Pete's solo at the beginning of this sounds like summer
Fabulous playing from both of you. Also very informative. Who knew the Marshall was so funky.
That JTM45 sounds so good! Great playing guys
Glorious sounds! Amazing playing! That is gear of my dreams... with the sexy chops from fingers that I doubt that I could ever have!
Great video guys! Incredible tones.
I Love this series. Keep them coming mr.Anderton :)
how do I convince youtube that this is one of the best videos ever! ?
I would pay good money to just sit and listen to Pete and Mick jam live. Best show on Andertons when these two are together.
I have a Bassbreaker 45 combo.
Changed out one speaker with a Eminence Govner, put all new JJs tubes, and played it for about a year. It took some tweaking but it's the best sounding amp I've ever owned. The $1000.00 dollar price range left room for small upgrades, which really helped me fine tune things. I couldn't afford Marshall JTM 45 at what 3 or 4 grand ? So Fender it is. And I don't freak out about taking to shitty local clubs. To top it off I always have the best guitar sound hands down. Lol Fantastic. amp.
Anthony G Strand how are the cleans? And how does it take pedals! I’m looking into either the 45, origin 50, or a used jtm45 (gc has a used bluesbreaker for around 1300 rn - slightly more than what I would pay for an origin 50h and a sourmash 1964cx cab).
Some master tone and licks in this video.
22:22 for the Victory (if you just want to hear it after a few mins of the other 2!) Great playing for Pete and Mick as usual
That JTM45 with some verb sounds like heaven!!!
An Awesome review by 2 great guys :)
Great demo guys, I revel in your enthusiasm & love of all things guitar! All amps did a great job but Marshall had the edge for me in this demo.
I'd so dig seeing a shoutout amongst 15-ish watt valve amps. Always plucky playing, lads... Thanks for all the snazzy videos!
The JTM 45 is the best amp ever made, just my two cents..
One day...
This is insanely exciting to watch and hear
Mick, wow, that opening jam was great playing!
THAT STRAT THROUGH THE SHERIFF AT THE END!!!!!!!! What a tone
Man if I could have the talents of Mick and Pete combined and channeled to me, I would own this world!
That Peter has such soft hands - he has such a lovely touch!!
Gotta love a guy with that magical Danish touch
LOL... if it wasn't a guitar playing video I would have been infested with some cheeky suggestions as to what do you mean... :D :D :D :D
*holds a plush bear in front of you* Show me where he touched you.
Oh yeah
Get a room!
All the amps sounded absolutely great but that JTM 45 clean is stupid good. I almost got a bassbreaker combo. They are excellent sounding and affordable but they have a fatal flaw, no effects loop.
Great tones! thanks for the info.
You guys are selling so much gear in "The States"... Such a good review... Keep up the good work!!!! Myself... I'm a Marshall guy. SUP!!!!
Some awesome playing there gentlemen :)
"who wants to use a marshall to play clean choppy funk guitar?" cough cough john frusciante cough
I had an awesome JCM900 head and thought the clean sound was incredible!
Marshall cleans are the best cleans.
Those marshall cleans are super underrated. Up there along with fender no doubt it
Ive been experimenting with this lately. As of now I feel that some Marshalls do this better than others! My 77 JMP has slightly thinner crispier cleans (like the 1987x I bet) and my 69 plexi and 89 jtm45 have cleans more like in this video.
@@daveowens Same. My school music classroom had an old 90's JCM900. The clean tone was phenomenal!
That tele is something else! Beautiful!!!
All these years.. JTM just stands out. They all sounded great.
This video is like going to world of beer and trying to find the best beer..
Really enjoyed that. Has to be Victory for portability and functionality. Lovely playing both.
Micks playing is on point, great playing
That Greer Lightspeed sounds amazing!
Damn you guys, now I want all of these.
I think we'll be wanting to see this video again with the Fender swapped out for the new Marshall Origin head (20 or 50). Thanks!
Fantastic video! Think all 3 amps sounded great and the Fender did particularly well considering it's price point. Gotta say though the Marshall did have that "something" extra, just a little warmer and more pleasant to my ears. Though the Victory has the added functionality...... All 3 winners :-)
Great video! My ears like these amps more through some good creambacks!
This really illustrates well how much of the sound character comes from the 4x12 and the actual speakers used. So basically using a Marshall 412 you can make a lot of amps sound similar to a Marshall
Lazarz Guitarz Truth. I'd wager 60% of the sound of an amp is the speaker(s).
Not really... all three of these amps are designed to sound relatively the same... the bass breaker is designed to be fenders version of the jtm45, and the victory is victory’s take on a Marshall. They’re all supposed to sound like a vintage-y Marshall... yes speakers have some to do with it but the majority of the similarities you’re hearing here is because of the circuit design of these not the speakers
"remove card before playing the amp"
Keeping the card on. Thats what gives it "that" sound.
Great comparison Video, and playing as usual Mick and Pete.
.. JTM for me :)
Although.. Still loving my DSL401 + G12-75H Creamback combo (slightly moded)
Nice to see fender has a amp with el84s that actually sounds good and arguably holds its own with these two amps!!!! I'm blown away by how much amp you get for the money vs the Marshall and victory, I'm going to buy the combo version in the near future! I've play the bassbreaker at a local store and couldn't believe how good it sounds and how versatile it was!! and great demo guys!!
The Fender Bassbreaker 45 uses two EL34 power tubes and not EL84's. I have noticed some confusion about this before. Even today mid April 2023 I noticed Guitar Center say's the 45 watt Bassbreaker uses two EL34's and then on the same page it provides conflicting information and say's two EL84 power tubes . However Sweetwater only lists EL34 power tubes for the Bassbreaker 45. Think about it, the Marshall JTM45 uses two 5881 power tubes to get 30 watts and the 5881 is a version of the 6L6 power tubes. The Vox uses EL84 to push 30 watts but not 45 watts. The Fender Bassbreaker is 45 watts and to get tose 45 watts it uses the EL34 power tubes.
I just looked up the Fender Bassbreaker 30R and indeed "it" uses "Four" (4) EL84 power tubes. Just remember they were reviewing the Bassbreaker 45 in this video and it uses two EL34 power tubes.- Peter age 73
That purple tele 👌🏻
Great video
Please do more shoot outs like how this video begins, really shows the good stuff
really interesting. the reverb through the different amps even sounded different.
My favourite Guitar Paradiso episode
JTM 45 is the King of Amps! Despite the fact that when I was with Decca I could find no evidence (asking Mike Vernon and searching photo files) of a Rangemaster being used on “Beano”) I really like the Greer “Pork and Beans” pedal with the amp. Pete.
One video to rule them all. Thanks for this.
Absolutely nutty that the Fender BB45 doesn't have an effects loop. With its power scaling, it would be almost a 'perfect' reasonably-priced amp.
The Victory Sheriff takes transparent overdrives real well. I would highly recommend it as it the most versatile for volume and venues sizes. Plus cathode basis option sounds great.
Mick the encyclopedia of everything guitar... and plays great too.
Always preferred the marshall clean myself. Fenders sound emaciated
bassbreaker reacts much more like a bassman, eq setting is crucial to finding that sweet spot. something they didn´t explore enough to show what this amp is capable of.
That rug really ties the room together
rug n roll
The PRS is beautiful!
Best clean tone I have ever gotten was a bluesbreaker combo in the normal channel turned up to like 6 or 7, analogman germanium sunface, les Paul junior with the volume knob on like 3. I know Jimi and Stevie discovered this long ago but you still have clarity, sustain, and a bit of compression to even things out. People generally think of marshalls as roaring bottom heavy monsters. I think they shine in that clean/dirty dirty/clean area. And the old ones weren't "high gain" the way we think of gain today.
Smooth playing guys. Prefer the Marshall.
I literally, just minutes ago, ordered a Sheriff 22 but good god that jtm sounds unbelievable
Oh those licks... If I could still every single one of them
Is that the Captain's PRS 594? Sounds sensational
The main difference I heard between the JTM and Fender was that the JTM sounded a bit more full on the frequency spectrum. Maybe could be compensated for on the EQ of the Fender?
Anyways, they both sounded very nice.
Pete and Mick are my favorite players!
That helpless backing track though
true!! Pete just loves John Mayer way too much haha
Yep, my classmate showed him to me and well I might like him too much now too
Aleksanteri Skaniakos you beat to mentioning it lol.
Aleksanteri Skaniakos also Mayer is just amazing so how can you not love his music!
Yeah he's great
22:28 Ha hewvsh hewvsh...the magical editing noise of course!
@Andertons Music Co Hey awesome video, love the JTM45 🙌🏼 Q: for Pete, Could you reproduce that sound with your Helix, using Both the normal and bright amp?
pete , your wife bought u the best sounding and coolest looking tele ever...
ALL of Pete's guitars end up being the best sounding ever. hmmmm
Great guitar for a truly great guitarist
Is it possible that you do a video comparing the jtm45 that we see in that video versus the handwired version of the jtm45(2245thw )
Goddamn that intro jam had some filthy licks
My god!! Mick’s playing in that intro!!
Mick busting out "All your love" once they switched to buckers was epic!
@10:26 lol. Great vid guys .. tones .. tones .. everywhere
My dream amp has always been a Marshall JTM45! I love them! In fact, I actually really like the cleans that they can do, but I'm not entirely in love with the overdriven sound.
That being said, here in Mexico, JTMs are nonexistent, and even if they were, the prices would be insane! So in my endless quest to get one of them, I went into the store decided to buy a Marshall DSL40CR. But when I was there in the store, I plugged into a Bassbreaker 45 and absolutely loved it!
I have owned mine for about 3 years now, and it has been great. But I agree with Mick here, I think that the Bassbreaker 45 is much closer to a Marshall 1987 than a JTM. It is very gainy! And because of that, one of my biggest gripes with it is that I can't get good cleans out of it. I can't get cleans out of a Fender because it's too gainy!
Still, great amp, anyone mildly interested should check them out. Specially if you are into classic rock like Zeppelin, Hendrix, Sabbath, etc. Also, the price is quite decent for a loud 45W amp that has a built in, rather pointless, attenuator.
I really like the sound of bassbreakers but I'm not so sure on their reliability
But the jtm45 is fantastic
Just bought the BB 45 today with the matching cab,it's an absolute beast of an amp cleans, crunches, early metal it has it all
Want to make it sound even better? Dump the V-Type speakers in the cab and swap in a V30. Or dump the Fender cab and get an Orange. I have my BB45 going thru an Orange 2x12 and it sounds massive. Tons better than my combo with the V-Types sounded.
Michael Bell Thanks for the recommendation. 🤘🤘🤘
@@michaelbell75 I swapped out one of the V types with an Eminence governor, and after the speakers broke in it sounds great.
I'm curious about how you say Joe B uses his rig. I recently watched and rewatched several times, while Dan Erliwine checks out his rig and and how he's set up. He doesn't seem to have anything dimed. In fact, I noticed he turns the amps backward and turns the bass all the way off to zero and the treble all the way up with mids nearly all the way up. His volume's aren't even all the way up. This is a recent StewMac video too, so it's likely to be his more recent setup. Presumably since he's been to Anderton's you guys know something we don't?
That opening part put to bed for me the 'Fender meets Marshall' thing that the Bassbreaker was advertised with - it sounded like a Fender. A good Fender though. The Bassbreaker may have edged it with the Strat but Pete's tone with the Tele through the JT was brilliant.
What settings did you use on the Sheriff... Fixed or cathode bias?
Great demo. Those dissonant notes, Pete: what were you playing?
'Thats cray cray man' Had me in tears!! Hahahaha
Teach me your ways Master Pete
You know what's Marshally? A slanted 4x12 with Celestion G12M greenbacks. Run those heads through a different cab with different speakers and they are going to sound radically different. Speakers make such a big difference.
I'm pretty sure I have never given a thumbs down to a vid in which Danish Pete is featured...
even the CabClone one ?
+TMmodify THAT is something that must not be talked about
OK got it !
1st RULE: You do not talk about CAB CLONE.
TMmodify not sure whether I've checked the cab clone vid 🤔
Would loved to have seen one of the Friedman 40 watters in this shootout
watchtheskies yes! with h&k and mesa in video 2!!
7:22 "Remove this card before playing amp" as the amp is on. LOL!!
The Marshall sounds fantastic
Yes!
3 wonderful feats of human engineering. We rock.
Looking for a beautiful clean amp as a pedal platform. I might've found one in the JTM
U might want to check out the origins and astorias as well
For half the price of the other amps, I don't know how anyone could talk bad about that Bassbreaker. That shit sounds great.
Cheap amp will always cost you more at the end unless you re amp tech yourself that's the major deference quality components and quality of craftsmanship
@@lipeguitars Bull crap! I have purchased 3 brand new Marshall JTM45 tube amps and all three of them crapped out within 10 days. I got to believing that my home has electrical issues. Yet I have 15 other tube amps and not any of them have ever had any issues at all. Some of those tube amps cost around $100 new, while my Fender '59 Bassman Ltd. cost me $1500 new and now sells for $2,000. I paid $2500 each time for my new JTM45's and today they are costing $3,000 new. I am heartbroken about the JTM45 as to my ears it is my favorite amp by far and I vow some day to try again and I shall indeed purchase my 4th. new Marshall JTM45. - Peter age 73
The Victory sounds like the sound I get in my head of how a Marshall should sound. Very versatile, with some refinement. I do not like the Fender. EL34s or not, it sounds too mid-scooped, with a brittleness on top. The JTM45 is just a beast. I think that amp is where Marshall got it right.
I definitely need the Bassbreaker!
Great amp..
Peter Osipov nights 6
Been avoiding Anderton vids because seems like more interested in being hilarious than providing great product overviews....this is a refreshing change of pace. Thanks!
its late here in the states
i should go to bed. after this
JTM45 man. The best!
