I've heard Eminem freestyle. Here in the UK D12 guested on a show on BBC Radio 1 years ago and they did a 20 minute freestyle session, it was amazing. The crazy part is, I think Chris is genuinely better at freestyle than Eminem was

I am a middle aged black guy from London who has followed freestyle rap for decades. This is one of the most remarkable things I have seen in the genre. Simple as that. If I was being critical, I could say that the beat is a bit lame and safe, and also that the tone of Chris's voice lacks texture, but that would be missing the point. As regards sheer creativity and "spitting off the top of the dome", this takes some beating. Amazing talent. Thanks for sharing. You are destined for big things.

@@oskargarden4559 Fair enough. I am not saying Chris is a good rapper. He clearly isn't and would probably admit as much himself. All I am saying is that he is as creative and imaginative (lyrically) off the top of his head as anyone I have seen in a long time.
Sway, Hot97 etc have showcased the best freestyle rappers of recent years, but you can never be sure how much is genuinely off the cuff and how much is pre written. Also, they often use similar wording and phrasing over and over again on different occasions
By asking for audience input at the beginning of this video as he did, its clear this is pure freestyle. I could barely remember what each section of the audience asked for tbh, never mind coherently rap about it. The guy is extremely talented, imho.

In the freestyle era of 2006 there were people spitting writtens and beating people that were freestyling very well (broke my heart). It always bugged me, since I was one of the few people who could consistently know who was freestlying and who wasn't, based on the filler and the planted words
If we give the rappers topics though, they are stuck with their natural talent only, and no writtens are allowed or can be used

Much much harder to truly go off the dome.
You can simply tell by the way he doesn't breathe heavy. If you take yourself out of the flow you risk chopping the whole rap and so he basically spits the whole thing in one breathe and it shows
A freestyle jus means a rap that doesn't have a specific topic. Off the top is what he's doing. Off the top and freestyle are not the same and that comes from rakim allah

At this point I'm not even surprised when Chris somehow manages to make up a rap on the spot anymore, he's so incredible the thought of him not being able to do it doesn't even cross my mind. What does, however, surprise me every single time is his breadth of knowledge, he's not like a PhD in everything, but he's got enough of an understanding that he can work clever jokes into the raps based on the inner workings of something for nearly every topic I've heard him use. He's not just thinking of the words people say and working towards something that rhymes with it, he's thinking of the concept people suggest and working towards jokes about the finer details of that concept.
