  • An overview of what you should do to prep your mower for a new season. This video is not model specific but I will be demonstrating on a Kawasaki FR651V.
In this video we change the oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs, and fuel filter. It's also a good idea to check and sharpen your blades. I plan to replace mine so will not be addressing them in this video.

When checking oil with dipstick you might want to turn dipstick counter clockwise and it with drop down a bit more..
It's kind of funny as sometimes when checking oil you could end up in that exact spot and it drops all the way down but most times it doesn't drop down and you must turn it left for it to drop down properly to check oil level.
Also I'm not sure if you started motor to let filter to completely fill and then check oil after it sits a bit as if filter not completely full from running that can give you a false oil level reading...

Can you do a video on changing the blades or leveling the deck?

Cameron, thank you for the maintenance video on this 651v. I just bought a new Scag with the same engine. I’m new to changing spark plugs, could you please tell me what size spark plug socket you use for the Kawasaki 651v? Thank you, Eric

I used a 13/16th I believe. Spark plugs are pretty simple, just don't over tighten them. Hand tight is good enough :)

Tuck some heavy paper or flat plastic up under the lip of the oil filter. Oil will drain on it and run off away from the frame.

My mower did not come with the drain tube for oil valve. What ID is that tube, looks like 1/2 inch? Thanks!
