So your Recomendation is 10w 40 Synthetic,,regular changes for all small engines
My recommendation is to use recommended viscosity inline with weather temperature and of course use synthetic and change it more often
@@repairvehicle ok this is important information for Me , I've been trying to pay more attention to my FR651V Kawi, this summer in Australia has been brutal 40 degree Days all Day, I've noticed the mower is super hot ,revving high and raspy sounding , next summer I will run 10w 40 Sythetic to compensate ☺👍
@@repairvehicle I have to ask , would you recommend this same minor viscosity jump for most machines, like say a diesel Motor vehicle in summer as well ,for instance my Diesel SUV is 5w 30 , in summer could I go 5w 40 ,of course Synthetic

I use Amsoil 10W30 small engine oil for all my outdoor power equipment. Excellent oil for a single cylinder air cooled engine.
I just recently bought a Ariens Apex 52-in Zero Turn lawnmower with the 23-hp Kawasaki FR691V Engine. I only have 2 hours on the engine now. Once I perform my 1st oil change. I'll be using Amsoil Small Engine Oil SAE 10W-40 Commercial Grade. I already have my 1 Gallon and my Kawasaki Oil filters. I'm ready. I guess I'll change the factory oil when I get to either 10 hours or 20 hours. I don't know yet.

Id love to know the oil temps on these small air cooled engines in relation to the ambient temp.
With liquid cooled automotive or stationary engines you can pretty much universally assume that the operating temperature of the engine will be anywhere between 87-95C and that it will reach this temperature quickly because the engine temperature is monitored and regulated.
I haven't seen engines that run cooler than ~87C or hotter than 95C yet and the oil temp will either be equal to the coolant temp at low loads or it will be around 100-110C. Of course 120-130C is possible under high load and with suboptimal oil cooling but really the oil temps should never rise above that.
Thats why to me the 100C Viscosity is more important to me than the Wintergrade since my engine will always operate at the same temp.
I could run 10w40 or 15w40 now in the Summer here but id have to change to 5w40 or 0w40 for winter since 15w40 turns to honey in the cold.
The fact that they will let you run anything from an Xw20 oil in the cold and an Xw50 Oil in the summer heat means that these engines have massively fluctuating oil temperatures depending on ambient right?
Because if it was regulated they would just design the engine for Xw40 for example and tell you to run 0w40 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer.

What's your opinion on 15w40 diesel oil in these engines? I just did 50 hour oil change and its what i had on hand to use

@@repairvehicle I have 2 diesel trucks and I buy the 15w40 oil in bulk. I live in the country too so the store is not on the corner for me to get oil. I plan to change the Kawasaki with this oil every 50 hrs with new filter. I am in south Georgia so it gets pretty hot here. So you are recommending I purchase the 10w40 next im in town?
@LF12468 my recommendation is to use oil specifically formulated for air cooled engines and make sure it’s synthetic. Buy it in bulk and have shipped to your place

Castrol GTX 10W-40. I like that with orange Fram oil filter. I do less than 25-30 hrs a season.

I have FR691V , which oil should I use ? it's only been 1.3 hours on it. Dealer told me to change oil first 50 hours then change every 100 hours but dealer told me I could use any oil that is recommended.
If you want best protection for your engine, use quality synthetic oil formulated for air cooled 4 cycles engine.

Kawasaki just posted a video on the Kawasaki engines RUclips channel as of 5/9/24 that says what's in the owners manual are the MINIMUM times for oil changes and other service intervals. I found that interesting. I have a Kubota Z781 EFI commercial ZT mower with the Kawasaki 850V EFI engine and the oil change interval is listed at 100hrs! and filter changes at 200hrs. NO WAY I will follow that recommendation. I'm thinking more like 30-50hrs max! Why? You have to make sure your not having oil dilution issues. If gas leaks through the system you will never catch it in time and your oil will get thin and kill the engine. 20W-50 is my choice as well. Good thick oil changed often will make your engine last.
20w-50 is wrong choice! Most of the wear happens when oil is thick and cold.
You must hate your equipment by running low quality oil.

what are u talking about? I'm a professional lawn service and use AMSOIL 15W-50 in all our mowers, AMSOIL iclaims to be 100% synthethic.
What did I say bad about 15w-50 synthetic?
He was making a point to use full synthetic and to do it more often than what the manufacturer recommends.
