You will have to do your own research to find a carb kit, I couldn’t find one on the Amazon.

Great video... Spot on! Totally cleaned out my carb after dirt from removing and cleaning my filter got sprinkled in there a little bit and I had the engine surge start. She is running smooth as butter on my Cub Cadet ZT 1 50 with the Kawasaki FR691V engine! Thank you!
Nice well done! If she was sucking in dirt I suggest changing the oil.
@@MowerMike I change the oil frequently. I use a bagger which throws a lot of dirt and debris at the back of the engine. She got dirt in her when I was removing the air filter to clean it. A little bit of dirt sprinkled down the intake tube off of the air filter. Thanks for the advice!
Thought you might go ahead and pull/clean the emulsion tube if you took the main jet out. Good vid!
Nah too lazy for that lol. Usually it is just the jets since that is what sits in the fuel. Glad it helped
For those of you coming here and wondering it's exactly the same on the fs600v
Thanks for confirming, these are great engines
Hey I did the same exact thing and my mower is still doing same thing, I can only run on half choke, if un try to take choke off it shuts down . Any suggestions much appreciated. Mower only one yr old John Deere z530m
I would check the valve lash and then the compression. I have videos on both
Would this work identically on a fx1000v?
Probably is my guess. Never had one in the shop though.
@@MowerMike Thank you for the reply!
Hey brother the carb cleaner you sprayed down the fuel nipple with swell or break down the needle seat or the needle tip as well. Do not spray that in anything during cleaning until all rubber and gaskets are removed. This is why we use ultrasonic cleaners with solvents that are gentle on rubbers and gaskets. Simple green or mean green is great. The fuel solenoid you need the be careful with as well there about $100 or close to. We never turn on the body so not to spin the two half’s of the body and brake connection’s inside the solenoid. You need a 1/2 and 7/16 wrench and grind them down so there skinny almost like a grinder nut tool.
The Kawisaki carbs for the most part except for the FH engines have full rebuild kits that includes the Welch plugs for a proper cleaning.
great information! My lawnmower wouldn't start, primed the carb. with gas and it would run as long as it had the gas I primed it with. I watched this video thinking the float was stuck in the up position. You showed me how to remove the sediment bowl, when I did that I found there was gas in the bowl. so I pushed down on the gas shut-off needle and it moved hard so I moved it by hand a few times then reattached the wires and operated the day a few times, the needle moved as it should. Reconnected it to the sediment bowl , mower started right up!!!! Thank you!
This just worked for me. I feel like a man thanks to your video 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💪💪💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You had it in ya the whole time. Now get to fixing some more broke stuff
Terrible cleaning job. You blew all the dirt back into the carb.
I agree I should delete all of my videos. They are total amateur jobs.
This video was perfect, I had a pretty good idea what to expect before I took a screw off. Thank you.
You got it
My ariens 52 has this same engine and when I try to start it, gasoline is spitting out of the exhaust. Would doing this help?
Sounds like your float needle isn’t sealing to shutoff the fuel. I think you either need a new carb or a carb kit with a new float needle.
Haven't cleaned a carb in 10 years great refresher! Thank! Also, am I the only one who saw that chunk of mess fly out of the jet when he hit it with the compressed air? :)
Good eye! Glad I got ya back on the carb cleaning train.
My John Deere X380 would spontaneously flood at random times, especially when at higher throttle settings. Took the carb apart as much as I could and sprayed a liberal amount of carb cleaner throughout. Fired right back up and looks to be running fine. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
Glad it helped
Never was a fan of the kawasaki until I got one. So yes, they are a good motor.
Yep they run sweet
Haven't touched ours in about 10 years since we bought it just an oil change every season or so and top her off. I used stabilizer for the first time this season and I guess that's why my carb got fucked out of nowhere 😂 ran fine a couple weeks though so maybe it's just built up over time after all. Who knows, glad for the vid bro.
@@MowerMike
Great engine, if they would only put a better air filter system like the commercial engines the carb wouldn't need a cleaning.
You can swap them out
You can install a heavy duty filter unit that does a outstanding job and the filter will last a long time 😊😊
Really it’s well worth the money Sir
@@philliphall5198 i did add the donaldson to the fr691 but it should come with it from factory
Did I miss you putting the fuel line clamp back on?
Hmmm maybe????
Awesome Video. Mower was barely running , Watched the video, did it. Runs like new !
Thanks glad I could get ya going again!
Copy that on the Amazon carbs. I’ve bought 3 of them from 3 supposedly different mfg and 2 have failed by the choke butterfly plate breaking off of its axle
Straight gas will eliminate these "issues" for a good long time.
Yeppers totally agree
Serious question: what that little tampon thing’s real name? I need to replace mine.
Found it! Kawasaki 42036-7022 Sleeve, Breather
Haha phew. I got red just reading that first comment. Glad you figured it out.
Hey, what’s the hose for above the fuel line? Mine came loose and trying to figure out where it goes to.
It is a breather hose that goes from the gas tank vent to the intake. There should be a nipple it pushes onto on the part between the air filter and carb.
did you figure this out? Yes, one end goes onto the carb. Where does the other end go? Where is the gas tank vent?
You forgot to post a link for the carb gaskets? I found the link to your store but not the gaskets.
The gaskets come with the carb when you buy a new one
@@MowerMike you didn't replace the carb in this video, only removed and cleaned. Do you have part numbers for those two gaskets?
@@mowens1972 No I don’t. Go to your local mower shop and let them hook you up.
Very useful video 👌
Glad you liked it
My fr691v was surging terribly. I cleaned the carb and put a kit in it. It still surged. After lots of thrown tools I figured out the Welch plug that covers the clean out for the pilot jet was gone. It was losing internal vacuum. I put a piece of tape over the hole and it fixed it.
Nice well done!
Thanks so much for doing this. I gotta clean mine.
No problem 👍
@@MowerMike Cleaned but no change. Still surges at idle. Tried popping off Welch plug and adjusting the screw. No change. Getting new cheap one. 2yrs and only 17 hrs on the engine and the carb dies. Not practical to buy OEM at $250-300 if I got to replace often . Thanks again!
@@duggysduggys5505 yep I agree
Thanks Brother! Very helpful and I appreciate the time you took to make the video. I’m somewhat mechanically inclined but still I’m not a mechanic. But with your video I learned a lot about this particular engine and carburetor that I needed to know. I was stuck! Thank You! 👍🏽
Thanks for the kind note. It is a great engine
Great video. We’re about 5-7 weeks or possibly more out at work besides engine services (not repairs) so I’m gonna see if I can start doing carb cleanings/replacements. I used to have a limit set to where I don’t do anything like that professionally (at/for work) but I’m getting into it now because it’ll cut down a whole lot of our one mechanic’s workload and help certain customers get out sooner. I’m gonna be staying after hours sometimes because we stay busy during opening hours and my primary job is to run the front.
Get sum! Carb cleaning is easy especially on these engines
Mine is blowing fuel out of the exhaust?? Never had a problem until I cleaned up charging system.....
lol no idea how those two go together. My guess is the needle is stuck in the carb causing too much fuel to flow in.
have k fs691v that is surging. I want to check the welch plugs to see if that is isssue. Can I get to welch plug on carb without removing carb?
Can’t help ya there, I don’t know what a Welch plug is.
Awesome video. Helped me clean my carb jet this morning. Fixed my rolling idle issue. Thank you!
Glad it helped
Man wish they made it that easy on grandstands. I have to remove the exhaust which has one nut that's near impossible to get too.😭
Grandstands? Never heard of that one.
New fuse, carburator, fuel pump, fuel lines, spark plugs. Still cranks but wont run.... help
I would check the valve lash and then check compression.
Hi Mike, a big thanks from Brittany, France! My Husqvarna Rider 316TXs AWD (jeez, I hope Google picks that lot up!) was running lumpy and then finally gave up. It has this Kawa engine, so fixed as per but thankfully was able to leave it attached to the motor. SHE RUNS!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
parfait!!!
Can Confirm. Ebay/amazon $20 Carbs are junk. For $20 I figured I would try it... big trash. It would run... but barely. Too much throttle and it would cut, to little throttle and it would cut. When you found the perfect level of gas, it would just barely move and barely cut grass. Cleaning the old one now, hopefully clears it up.
Before cheap carb, mower was shooting gas out of the exhaust and wouldn't run for more than 10 seconds or so. Flushed oil, and put the cheap carb on and no more gas out of the exhaust but runs like 💩. Fingers crossed this fixes it
Yep I hear ya. The Amazon carbs used to always work but now about half of the time the suck. Good luck, the carbs on these are easy to clean. If that doesn’t fix it try checking your valve lash and your fuel pump.
Try a Hipi brand carb
Clogged jet! saved me tons of money, not throwing parts at it. Thank you!
Good job fixing her up!
This video really.. and I mean really... helped me out. I appreciate the time you put into it
Hey glad it helped .
The OEM carbs are made by walbro
What if the plunger won’t unscrew even with needle nose pliers?
Just blow on it and if you can hear the air going in and then stopping when you lift the float you are good, just clean the jet. 90% of the time it is just that main jet that is dirty. Good luck
thanks for the video. what if the jet screw will not come out?
You can try and clean it while it is stuck in the carb. Just jam something small up in there and lots of carb spray to clean the jet
Is carb made by Kawasaki or other company? Great video, good camera work!
No it is a different company. Is a good carb though. Thanks!
Most likely walbro.
Thanks for taking 15 minutes of my life to watch a video made by someone that doesn't know a damn thing about the video he is making! You really couldn't wait 15 minutes before talking with candy in your mouth?!? BIG THUMBS DOWN
Scotty sounds like you may have an addiction to watching poorly made RUclips videos. Try putting the phone down and going for a walk. Everything will be ok.
Oh, your comment is incorrect on one thing. Those were cracked pepper sunflower seeds in my mouth not candy. A must have for any lawn mower mechanicing ;)
The video was really helpful, the reply to stupid comments made me realize I need to subscribe. Love it!
@@mattkucmyda2180 Haha thanks man. I am glad someone appreciates me being a smartass.
I did this exact thing and still have surging issue had some gunk in the float valve
Check for air leaks. Spray some crab fluid around the intake and see if she is sucking air
there are two tubes coming out of the carb Lower one is fuel. What is the upper line and where does the other end attach?
It goes to the intake manifold nipple
Fuel tank vent
Have you found a China carb that’s worthy yet ?
Where do I find a gasket set for this carb ?
Check out the links in the video description of my Carb swap video on this mower. Just watching the wrong clip my man
Thanks…but mine is a FR691V
@@bulldurham66 Just search for it on Amazon
Great video, helped me fix the issue with mine. Thanks
Glad it helped
Great video! My encore 34 inch zero turn mower has been stalling for a little while now and it’s been driving me nuts. I figured it could be my fuel lines being clogged or the carburetor since I haven’t given it a good clean in quite some time.
Yep fresh gas, fuel filter and a carb cleaning will probably fix her up.
@@MowerMike
So update: I have an FS600V so it’s a slightly different setup but it’s more or less the same. I think have everything put back in place like how it was but now I’m getting a lot of fuel shooting right into the carburetor and it floods the engine
@@MegaChorro123 Sounds like the float is stuck or the needle. I would take apart the carb or get a new one
@@MowerMike
New carb comes in tomorrow so hopefully that does it. Being totally honest I know exactly jack shit about how to take these things apart so I’m just trying my best 😂
Whst do you do if your engine is surging? Does this fix that also?
Yes usually needs a carb cleaning. Can’t hurt
I ran some berryman 13 through it and it seems to have cleared it up
needing help: My kawasaki zero turn: FR730V: I have gas to carburetor, I have spark, I have cleaned carburetor, I have changed the gas. The ignition switch is not working.....maybe solenoid is faulty. However, I can cross start. It turns over and starts only with starting fluid. I'm at a loss.
Buy more staring fluid
If it is cranking and starts with starter fluid than the ignition is fine. If you think the carb is clean then I would check compression. Sometimes low compression engines will run on starter fluid only. Good luck.
I do preciate you takin time to respond. Just to add back into the scenario.....kind of so you'll know. I finally figured it out. The ignition switch was bad. There was no power to the carburetor float mechanism ( don't recall the right name). Too, my 20 amp , in line fuse was blown totally negating power to the switch and even with power to it, the switch was bad. @@MowerMike
@@thomasfreeman8802 Well done figuring it out
Need 12 volts to electric solanoid and you might tap on the side of it under carb fuel bowl
Why didn't you pull the tube out after you oukked the main jet and check all the little pin holes
Because I am winging it. You should really do that
@@MowerMike you would think if you was doing a carb cleaning video you'd show the whole process.
@@shaneparnell2128 You sure would
Didn’t fix my problem on the kawi :(
Still feels like it’s running one one cylinder. Spark is good, maybe a coil??
If spark is good then it isn’t the coil. Trying running it and pull the spark plug boot off one side and see how it runs. If it runs the same then you know that side isn’t firing and you can go from there.
One thing I learned about these carbs is they really need to be sonic cleaned really good to properly clean them, most of the time a spray can job will not get it cleaned enough
@@philliphall5198 We will agree to disagree on that. Little hole cleaning with some carb cleaner and little wire usually gets it done for me
Mike, how do you rebuild these oem carbs? Clean them well and add new gaskets? Mine seems to be dumping fuel out the exhaust - anything I need to do besides that to restore the carb?
@@brennanford6182 Just make sure the float is working properly and not pouring fuel into the carb
You are going to tear up your hydro motors.
May as well not have a Zeroturn if you can do some doughnuts haha
You put your first gasket on upside down.
Dang it!
I just cleaned my carb on my weed whackah and mounted the throttle upside down. Thanks for the video, It helped with my zeroturn carb.
good job 👍
Thanks glad it helps
Thank you…enjoyable
Glad you enjoyed it
where did the sound go ???
Put in both ear pods.
Great help thanks

It's amazing how some say the kawasaki engine is the best..well here's reality the least seen engine in any small engine repair shop is the Kohler 7000 series..it's not kawasaki it's not Honda it's not Briggs & Stratton..it's the Kohler 7000 series Engine it also comes with a 3 year unlimited hours warranty..so don't take my word for it research yourself..
I will take your word for it!!!
Agreed it's actually designed after the Kohler command commercial Pro Engine it's built to last for sure 👍
Thank you Mower Mike,
You once again helped de-mystify the how to of working on yet another fun project. One question I have in regard to robbing the gaskets from an inexpensive foreign carburetor is as follows: Will a foreign bowl fit on an original carburetor. Also, the jet will not unscrew from the original carburetor. I’m thinking that’s not a problem if I am able to blow through it as you show in your video. Any comment would be helpful.
Thank you, Craig
Yep I swap bowls and jets all the time between stock and cheap Amazon carbs.
As far as the jet as long as u get it clean u are good. They get froozen up in there
I did exactly what you did, Mike, and voila - all running much betterer!
What! Great news my man
I have a 2019 Scag 48" walkbehind, SWZT48-541FS, Kawasaki FS541V. Pull-cord. I open the choke. When I try to start it, it will NOT start. However, if I add 1 teaspoon of fuel into carburetor, it fires/starts. After engine has been running a short while, it will restart withOUT adding fuel directly into the carburetor. I have been doing this for 1-year. Why does it need to be manually primed to start? What can I do to resolve this issue? Thank you!
Do exactly what I did on the video and clean your carb
@@MowerMike Yes, the first thing I did was have an Ultrasonic cleaning of the carburetor at my Scag dealer. Also, changed fuel filter. Those resulted in no improvement. Someone suggested fuel pump may be the issue. I will investigate. Thanks.
Sounds like fuel pump not pumping or cracked hoses going to fuel pump not drawing a vacuum
@@indyprostringers2051 I would take the carb off and manually clean it and make sure the jets are clean. Just doing The ultrasonic is not how you clean a carb.
I tried this job. Went well until I couldn't get the jet unthreaded out of the body. It seems the threads are in bad shape and I have stripped the top of the jet trying. Any suggestions???
I would try and clean it with the jet still in there. Get a small wire or a carb cleaning kit and jam it up in there and then spray carb cleaner through the jet. You can do it without removing the jet. I have been there it sucks when that little brass slot strips but I bet you can make it work.
Worse case order a new carb on Amazon for $40.
@@MowerMike You got me pretty spooked about those Amazon Carbs. You said that the gaskets on them leak a lot. I really dont see many gaskets on the thing. What typically goes wrong with those cheap Carbs?
@@grueneriverguesthouse1886 They can be jetted wrong or leak. I would try and fix the stock carb first and if that doesn’t work try an Amazon carb.
