We went to the Galapagos and had lunch our first day there at a wonderful little outdoor restaurant in April. Yesterday I started processing my iPhone photos in LR which I had not used in 10 years (long story, I am 71 with an 8 yo and a 10 yo, go figure). LR popped up and asked if I would you like to add the new AI feature. Well sure, why not. The picture of my kids at lunch was great but the straw from my daughters drink was right in front of her nose. Well lets give it a try, said I. On the third try I removed the straw from her beautiful nose. Then said I lets get rid of my beer. Not only did it remove the beer it revealed the candy behind the beer. I did not even know it was there. My mind was blown, and I am a programmer and a physicist. It is so easy to use. Today I found you and validation. Keep up the good work and make more videos. You are a natural teacher. Cordially, W. David McGuinn.
This is amazing! Can't believe this is in Lightroom Classic now! I just updated. And your tutorial is superb! You are great in explaining step by step & the ins and outs of this huge update. You saved me sooooo much time. Thank you! Oh, and I'm subscribing now!
Thank you for all your examples! I have been watching a lot of videos on the new AI removal but you are the first one to show the glare in the glasses and the fly away hair!
I actually say in the video. That was an example of the heal brush that i forgot to reset the tool before removing the backpack. Its a totally separate remove using a different tool. Its not a glitch put there by LR. But nice catch!

Hi Kristina! Quick question. Around the 16 minute mark you are talking about adding a new selection by starting outside and weaving your way in and then refining and erasing. Could that be done easier by setting the Tool Overlay to Never? Then you should be able to draw a new selection anywhere without having to worry about getting mixed up with a previous selection.
Kristina, My first experience with your presentations was from the Lightroom Virtual Summit. Great job sharing valuable information, your enthusiasm really contributed to the experience!
Thanks for your clarity in explaining how this new tool works. And I appreciate your enthusiasm. With the several examples, I believe I've got it now. And...I subscribed, because you have a knack for teaching and making it understandable. Thank you!
Very good training video. You are so used to doing things with a brush you do that here, but it's not required to paint things, you just need to go around the edges or cover the entire object with the proper sized brush. I never used PS but am really impressed with this feature in LrC and have been using it a fair bit before I saw your clip here. I do a lot of bird photography & this new feature is great for removing branches & twigs.
Hi Kristina, thank you very much for this great video! Very well explained! This new function is really great! For all those who don't use Lightroom Classic, the good news is that this feature is now also available in Adobe Camera RAW and therefore also in Photoshop!
Splendid video, Kristina! Lr is amazing now with "remove" and "lens blur". One question: in the "remove" tool, in the "mode" section, how does the "clone" tool work compared to the others? How do you choose an area to clone from? Alt+click doesn't seem to work. Thanks again for the clear instructions.
Thanks for the instruction. Have you tried to remove a semi-frame-filling person from a street scene with lots of odd items around them in the background?
What about the resolution of the generated image? I work on high quality photos, the generative content on Photoshop looks like a blurry crap as it has 1024px restrictions. There are ways to deal with it by creating actions in ps to generate it in small, combined selections. If Lightroom cannot do that than I will still stick with Photoshop
Hello. That’s a fantastic new feature! I’d just been notified about this on my phone and then I saw your video. I’m not ditching PS but this is probably going to be one of my favorites. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you very much, Kristina, for this excellent workshop. The demo files make all the difference. After following along your demonstration I'm thrilled to save hours and hours while editing my photos. Already shared with my photograper friends
Thank you for giving out free demo files. You're one of the very few RUclipsrs doing this. It helps me a lot because it enables me to practice along with your video. What an EXCELLENT job!
I just "discovered" this feature while working on some photos. I saw this video, while watching another video. This will improve my editing techniques.
The small issue is the level of detail it leaves behind as per all Generative AI programs. you have to be careful - we use Hass X2D for Studio and Fuji GFX100II for our outdoor location work - (Ie 100Mpx - do it tiny bit by tiny bit - ie use very very small areas at a time otherwise you will have gaping holes in resolution - however the AI does not like to fix fixes so it is laborious and painstakingly slow - otherwise its quite a cool feature on lo res images
the only issue I have with the generative ai, is that the filled area is very low in quality. You didn't show this by not zooming in on the sharp filled in parts. It is very obvious when you zoom in by even only 25%. Unless this changed in the lightroom version.
Try using the new firefly model in Adobe Photoshop Beta. It uses Firefly Model 3 rather than model 1. Also the new model in the beta allows you to enhance the details inside the variations box. But by far, my favorite way of using generative fill is to make sure the lasso'ed area isnt larger than 1024 pixels. Even if it means doing the generations in sections.
awesome video and I love your enthusiasm! Definitely will help with my LR workflow. I noticed that in the image of the kid with w/the overalls, the generative AI didn't add a buttonhole to te right of the button. Is there a way to clone that from the other button/buttonhole? thanks!
Thx for the video and your very detailed explanations. Still seems to be a buggy beta version. It doesn`t act as a remove tool on my dell laptop but as a generative fill function. Every time I try to remove something the masked area ist filled with similar objects......🤔. I hope that will be fixed soon since it is a cool function.
Does the quality of the image Generative Fill improve though? If not, is there a workaround to add, let's say, a grain effect within the selected mask to complement the original photo's grain/noise surroundings?
This was a very good presentation of this new feature as I've held in to a few problem photos for several years which now have solutions. LRC just keeps getting better. I'm not sure that PS will devolve at all.
Thank you for sharing this information and instructions. I welcome the addition of anything to Lightroom Classic that makes it less necessary to open the images that I am editing in PhotoShop. Jan.
I have been trying to use this and have been having issues removing a few objects. I'm going to try and refine my masks a bit more see if that helps. Also helpful tip is to do the removal before editing, because I have not been doing that.
Not yet... When you use Generative Remove and place a mask on the screen to change an image, it does not go all the way to the edge of the photo to remove the blemish. It works fine when masking an area to the inside of the image, but at the edge it leaves a small boundary at the very edge, thus missing item's like branches, from the edge of the photo. Still needs more work. It does not miss the edges in Photoshop.
Might you have cropped in your canvas first? Just checking because one of the tips is to do the generative remove first and then crop. This sequence works better for the tech.
Tried with cropping the image and not cropping the image and it didn’t make a difference. The generative remove mask would not go to the very edge of the photo. Lightroom still needs more work on this.
This tool doesn’t replace PS in no way. If you work with hi res pictures you can clearly see even on 50% view noise patterns mismatches. You can fix it in PS, but not in ACR. So yeh, for quick fix for instagram it works. For serious work - totally not
This hardly eliminates the need for Photoshop. There are so many features available in Photoshop that Lightroom doesnt have. What I really wish for is for the ACR Lightroom masking features like (select person...) to be transferable to Photoshop so I can use those masks with all the features of Photoshop.
@@rongough6636 To be clear, if I create a mask of just the face using ACR in Lightroom then when I open it in Photoshop and go to ACR the mask will be there? I created a thread on the official adobe website and a ton of people are saying how much they would also like this feature. If what you're saying is true they would all be happy to hear.
Where do the AI generated options live? Will they be added to the catalog or a separate file? Seems like it could take up a lot of space quickly, especially if you can't delete the options you don't use like you can in Photoshop. Thanks for the update. I share your enthusiasm for this awesome feature coming to LRC.

Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing you images and demos for us. Once you have removed whatever you have taken out, how do you go back to you foto to see if everything is right. I am still learning Lightroom Classic. Also I don't know how to download your images so I can practice.

Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for all your examples! I have been watching a lot of videos on the new AI removal but you are the first one to show the glare in the glasses and the fly away hair!

Great news, what about the leaves behind the lady 4:15 , they disappeared as well?, maybe it’s still in beta.
I wanted to ask the same thing!

Excellent stuff. Now all we need is great and effective skin retouch in LrC
Yes indeed!
Affinity photo has amazing skin retouching and one step split frequency.
Thank you for taking the time to introduce this to me. This is a game changer!

Thanks for the instruction. Have you tried to remove a semi-frame-filling person from a street scene with lots of odd items around them in the background?

Another great video. Can you tell me what model BenQ monitor is that?

Interesting tool. What is the pixel dimension before degradation begins?
Its 1024 pixels in Photoshop I assume its the same in LR.
Great video. Really enjoyed your enthusiasm, Thanks. So Good, I bookmarked.
Awesome!
Awesome Video ! Thanks for sharing

Wow.. my life just got easier! Thank You for sharing.
You're very welcome!
Huge addition to the tool box. I was sooooo tired of going to PS for basic remove/heal tasks. This raises the bar for LR/LrC!
You made it so simple. What a great birthday gift
Amazing!, It works in ACR. Thanks a lot Kristina😃

@@SharkPixel no. I do my cropping as one of my final steps.
Terrific ❤
thanks!
The only feature is really missing in LR is "Layers"
JUST AMAZING
Thank you!!

This is amazing!!!
I agree! Amazing tech!
I downloaded the file but am clueless on how to pull the pictures into Lightroom. Great review of the new features.

im with you!
Great presentation
