Great question! Often you will want to do more than one procedure with a specific enhancer. Maybe you will want to first characterize the enhancers expression using a GFP reporter, and then maybe you want to do additional tests using a rpr reporter. It is a challenge to create new lines targeting a specific enhancer. You don't want to have to make a line for that specific enhancer more than once. With a binary system, you trap the enhancer, and then have the ability to use many different reporters relatively easily. If you want to run multiple procedures using the same enhancer, and you don't use a binary system, then you have to create the two reporter lines independently, which requires much more work. The binary system is all about ease in switching out reporters that will be driven by a specific enhancer.
