- Microscopic footage showing fruit fly anatomy and its life-cycle.
The fly life cycle starts from the egg, to the larva, pupa and finally the adult. After a females mates with a male, she will lay eggs which will be the next generation of flies.
The fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) is very important in biological research. A lot of scientific knowledge in genetics and physiology was gained largely by studying the fruit fly.

It's 1:36 AM, and I'm watching fruit flies
I have to because I have them for tarantula food.
its 3:17 am, and Im still not sleeping
same
4:36 am
12:59am over here
When I'm done clawing my skin off inch by inch with my bare hands and I stop screaming, I will appreciate how fascinating this is.
Thoranzalar Vhazen uhhhh why?
They are just fruit flies. They don't feast on people. They are not harmful at all, and in fact, feed so many other amazing creatures.
@@thekatt... Phobias are not typically rational.
@@DANGJOS its probs just meth
@@DANGJOS it's probably not a phobia, but the fact that these things infest homes and are hard to get rid of
You should definitely add the elapsed time to demonstrate how fast these things reproduce (about a week), rather amazing!
I definitely am gonna try to do that in a future project.
Pierre, here you are ruclips.net/video/3nhq5ULIEA8/видео.html
I can't believe I really sat here in silence and watched this whole thing.
Same
Me too 😂😂😂
Same bruh
Same Dude, I feel so informed I was just curious about how they were born.
@@fbimonitor6023 ehhhh I just thought I would see a fly eat another fly ....
how im the hell can a living creature be so damn small?!?! nature is incredible.
They can get way smaller than a fruit fly.

Ant man can help you imagine more
Bacteria girl?
Lmoa wait till you hear about microscopic organisms you idiot 😂😂😂
God is wonderful!
So interesting! Always wondered how they just shows up out of nowhere! Great video, I enjoyed it :)
This just shows you how precise God is
This is the second time I watched the whole process of the life cycle of flies from egg to adult. Last time I watched it, I raised the flies myself for a fly observation biology project just last semester. It was the project that I almost had a mental breakdown.
Why lol?
They're generally pretty easy to raise, what went wrong? I know mold and mites are infamous for infesting fruit fly cultures if not kept in right conditions.
Great images. Makes me respect nature even more. Can you explain your setup? What type of microscope?
Hi Paretozen,
I use a Nikon D3300 and several microscopes and illuminating lamps.
Wolfe Laboratory Microscope - 10X and 30X
Wards trinocular Microscope (not sure the model) - 40X, 100X, 400X, 1000X
American Optical One - Ten microscope - 150X, 600X, 1500X
Hope this helps.
Oh wow...
if u got fruit flies in ur house, just imagine where they're laying their larvae YUCKKKKK
ikr
Yeah and I just found out where they were..... I'm disgusted 😭😭😭
They found their way into my kombucha jar one day and laid eggs there on the scoby, they hatched and there were larvae on there so had to throw it out. It was so gross.
I purchase these to feed my tarantulas.
I actually love them more now, I really don't get why people get so disgusted abt them
I want to see video of the fly emerging from the pupa. Why is that so hard to find?
Stancexpunks, here it is, in case you still prefer to watch this. ruclips.net/video/3nhq5ULIEA8/видео.html

Nature is absolutely amazing, the complexity in such a small insect, all of the answers we seek can be found in nature, you just have to know where to look.
You should've shown all the amazing variation in their eye color! All the nice shades of scarlet red and bright oranges are actually quite beautiful :)
I might do that in the future
Great job and thanks for putting this together 👏
So I left a glass of orange juice in my room at home while I was on a trip, and fruit flies found it.. instead getting rid of it, I covered it decided to watch the population grow. It started with 3 flies and now there are over 20. It’s really interesting to watch all the different stages of bug all in the same place
Did u burn them once u got bored? 😌
Holy crap that’s cool.
@ابو ليث الخطيب stop fricking spamming
Super job on image collection. Great content for classroom use! Thank you so much!
I am happy this helps!
this entire video is so good, I didn't know what insect music could be so fitting
i’ve watched like 3 vids so far and i have to say man. i think you’re pretty rad.
Love the 7/8 time signature song at the beginning
A fruit fly is in my house..and I’m going to kill it with my flip flop

Really digging this rather unique guitar track also.
I love these tiny qnimals so much even if i want to puke i watch them.for so long theyre my fav, next do closeup of mantis i love them
Awesome video and great music!
Thank you for the video about fruit flies / Drosophila melanogaster, very useful and it seems better to provide subtitles so that other viewers can understand👍🏻
I made a video about how to make a trap for fruit flies, but I decided to take a look if someone has made a video about their lives! And this is how I found your amazing video!!! :) It's really great!!!!
The music is SO spot on....lol.
the wings are very pretty
ryuseiyellow and crunchy

Could have been even better with some information. Shots were impeccable tho. Nice job.
Nice video. Like.👍
This is helpful my job . Thanks 🙏
watching this video adds to the knowledge about fruit fly development.
Wow.... It is awesome. You really need to see this.
1:51 Aww, this one's a little moldy... :3
The ideo is very useful, very helpful in knowing the development of fruit flies✨
Thank you for making this video. The video is very informative.
videos are very useful and great details
Great video👍
Wow, its amazing. This video broadens my knowledge. Thanks
Good work done
It's a great video , thank you
Idk if I should be watching this when I have a ton of these in my house.
Thank you the video is amazing and it can add to my knowledge about fruit flies.
Wow so amazing 👍
Thank you for doing research on this
I’d like to see a size comparison when they are in the larva/pupa stage (like... compare to a grain of rice or a grain of sand or something)
Great video. Thanks!
Terrific microphotography, and use of darkfield for contrast.
What was your mounting medium, did you use a slide with a depression, how did you keep some alive?
Great show!
thank you for the video👍
Beautiful, what equipment did you use for the magnification process?

*Lick lick*
Fly: eww it’s plastic
What's the music from? NIce 7/4 hammer-ons goin' on.
perfect metamorphosis, good and inspiring videos. It's amazing
Interesting for me and the picture is so beautiful. Each stages in the life cycle of the fly in the video come from one adult or many?
The footage comes from many flies.
@@sci-inspi I would like to study the life cycle of fruit fly (focus the genus Bactrocera) but I didn't succeed at all.
@2:36 the iridescence on the wings looks incredible.
Is this Tools new video?
What is that worm-like things inside little larva body?
nice work sir
wow thank you, the video is very interesting and useful for me
Alright son I’m your dad there’s your mom this is your house you like fruit and..... we’re all dead.
Wow, that's amazing 😯
Is this a new Tool song?
Hahahahahaha. They're coming to detroit they want 163 bucks a ticket. Ohhhhhhhhkay.
awesome video but why did u put them in the blue slop
That’s the media/food they grow in.
masya Allah it's amazing👍👍
Thank you for the very useful video with this video, we can understand better how the development process of drosophila melongaster, but it would be better if you add subtitles so that the explanation can be understood more.
I am always confused, how they reproduce. With this I understand, thanks for the video. very helpful
Thank u for high lighting the wings. I never would have found them.
What kind of "mixing" do you use? Preparation, ingredients... I mean, for the food of the flies. Mine is not blue, and it's a little bit complex to do.
And what about the videos? It's great, which camera or adaptor do u use?
Thx for ur time.
Hi, I am not sure what is used for the food. I have a large jar labeled "fly media" that I inherited since I started working in my lab and have been using that for years. You can also buy some online if you want to save time.
I used the following equipment for this video:
Camera: Nikon D3300
Microscopes:
Wolfe Laboratory Microscope - 10X and 30X Wards
trinocular Microscope (not sure the model) - 40X, 100X, 400X, 1000X
American Optical One - Ten microscope - 150X, 600X, 1500X
And some illuminating lamps as well
Absolutely fascinating!!!!
2:31 & 4:03 the wings and their eyes tho 😍
Masya Allah, it's amazing. Thank you the video is very useful
interesting video, I can know the metamorphosis process of this fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) clearly
Great stuff! Name of the song throughout the video?
Hi Mercilesscuttlefish,
I made the song. I called it fruit fly.
Nice!
Interested 🙂
I remember when I worked with these and some much scarier looking bastards and I'd have to stick my arm in their breeding cages which had about 600-1000 of them. Damn the itchiness I'd get from them haha
The music makes me feel like I'm doing an exercise in futility.
LOL this is exactly what this bassline does to me too.
Fruit flies are such adorable and innocent insects!!! Only monsters can hate them!
Also, I'm not looking forward to starting world war 3 in the replies, so keep it to yourself if your an animal hater.
Simultaneously gross, beautiful, repulsive, and fascinating at the same time.
this makes my skin crawl, anybody else get that
thank you I know and understand
I have to ask for the music. What song is it?
Beauty of nature
Life circle?
Where are the time/date stamps?
It’s kind of sad they only live 1 day imagine if humans only lived one day. Poor flies! 🪰
Is this a zoom stereo microscope
Thank you
Sama-sama
@@mochi3284 wow
Who made the music?
Umm now i found out the flies un my home rn aren't fruit flies, but what are they? They're like miniature flies and have colors of a moth
Probably pantry moths!
@@haileylockhart8967 I checked them and I didn't knew those moths on my flour were called pantry moths 😂 and I found out those flies I was referring too were only found in India
This music is killing me 😂😆😂
Those wings tho 😻
I could see the tiny little maggots heart beating and just think they’ve got a little brain as well, everything’s there.
where’s this beat from
My abusive father. Every night. Belt buckle!
Thanks for the great video, very informative ✨
I can’t see the maggots in my fruit fly culture. Are they inside
They can be really tiny. Check closely. If you get pupa, they are definitely there.
My understanding is that they DON'T actually eat fruit but eat the things that do eat the fruit, such as yeast and microscopic organisms. Fruit flies is actually a misnomer. Correct?
Information above is from Carolina Biological.
