Playing on a PS4 Pro with HDR. I swear, there are times the game completely fools me into thinking I’m looking at a Movie. The graphics are insane.

Bryan T Pretty sure Horizon and GOW looks overall better. But yeah it looks pretty damn good. Didn't play it or GOW yet.
Not too hard when you basicly just have some mostly static hallways with some mocap in them.
Ke We If it was that easy then any indoors cutscene in a AAA title, say Call of Duty or Far Cry 5, should look as good if not better.
This is why I hope some developers would focus on tighter short scope games sometimes, so that they can fully utilize it's visual fidelity. Games like Uncharted 4, this, and God of War do good with this. I would still like a balance and have bigger scope games too.
Ollie its just like movie sets, you cannot build out a whole world but some games rely on open world vs. Set pieces. Just depends on the game.
barry morgan Absolutely. Games like Zelda BotW wouldn't fit this kind of small scale. I just think some open world titles would fit better with a tighter scope like Metal Gear Solid V, Assassin's Creed and the Arkham Batman games.

Yellow Flash It struck a really good balance, but was still a very focused experience. I really like the open, but focused game design such as Good of War, Tomb Raider, Dark Souls, Deus Ex, And Crysis 2 and 3.

As a religous PC user I've found that interesting enough games with consistent 30fps are perfectly playable, if not ideal. Breath of the Wild comes to mind.

TanTheMan have you played this ? I as a PC gamer played the demo and can honestly feel every one of those 30fps and it ain't nice ! I only got my PC September 2016 and was a avid PS4 gamer and console gamer forever before that but now that i have a decent PC cant have lower than 60 fps without really feeling the stutter !
This does look amazing though but its a real pity that it won't come to PC so it could really be the best it can be !

No it's not thats not how it works. This game looks good because they have great talented artists and engineers making the most out of the console with a decent budget to boot. This would run at 4K 60fps on a 1080ti which is even more impressive. Or with a 1080ti they could have even higher quality motion blur, AA, AO, DoF, reflections, shadows, textures etc.

A huge spoiler for you... all those super classic Nintendo games were hardcore coded and created on 1983 Nintendo hardware that lasted in retail up until 1994 to 1996...
Even the Sega MegaDrive with less games established hardcore coded classics and arcade to home conversions that defied the "checklist features" the hardware wad capable of.

This is no different to some of the Nintendo Switch games. Proof that a well chosen aesthetic with visuals that make the most of the chosen hardware can look totally amazing even if they are not graphically on par with PC ultra settings.

It is basically just a interactive movie. It may look good graphically but with very limited gameplay it ain't a good game at all.

Lol the X is technically the strongest console out there. But MS's dev teams are so incompetent they can't use the X properly. All they can make are half-assed looking, buggy, games and Sea of Thieves.
You do have a point, my pc has a 14.6tflop GPU, but no single game looks quite this visually appealing.
Horsepower is much less important than artstyle and design... But don't get me started on 30fps, if I play through this game it'll have to be in 20min chunks or it'll make me nauseous.. but since it's so pretty I'll probably still give it a go :)
NostalgicMonkey Wrong sea of thieves is a very good looking game. It just has a weird juxtaposition graphically. That's a art and design choice though. Quantum break look just as good but nobody played it.

I agree, this one is for me..
I played and loved the demo on my Pro, and the visuals were stunning. I originally went from "I'll wait for a sale" when the game was first announced and even still after the trailer came out but then I started to bend toward day 1 purchase. After the demo came out and playing it, I was already deep into GOW so I decided to hold off and go back to my original "I'll wait for a sale". Ha.
That said, I absolutely loved this break down and may get it regardless of sale because I finished GOW already and still tryna grab the little bit of things I didn't get along the way. This makes me really appreciate "the other side" of a video game with these tech break downs.
This game looks and feel very Next Gen, i've played this year for the first time Beyond Two Souls and was already impressed but with Detroit... What a good time to be alive to see this advance in game industry.
I was also thinking about a Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 remake with this kind of techonology... would be brutally amazing.
At this point, this style of game is literally an interactive movie, like a never ending in engine cutscene

Looking a year on, the lighting and reflctions here are top notch, QD were ahead of the curve. This is like mimicking actual hardware ray tracing.

Amazing, well analyzed and in-depth detail of the game, getting really dirty here too, I just love how DF go in this stuff.
Those here who don't understand how good this is from an aesthetic and graphical standpoint, will also not understand how the Nintendo Switch also has amazing looking games.
Graphics have one use in a game. That's it. To immerse you into the game's narrative/storyline so you can suspend your disbelief and totally believe that you are seeing within the context of that game. You do not need PC level ultra settings to achieve this. Breath of the Wild, a graphically inferior game totally achieved this also with a brilliant choice of game aesthetic which totally blended in with the gameplay style. You really believed you were Link in Hyrule.
Same here, you really believe you are in the world of Detroit Become Human. Smart use of graphics and aesthetics is beating PC level ultra settings for this very reason. The human brain is not trained to hate on everything not in 4k or 8k at ultra settings. However the human brain is trained to only focus on the important thnigs you see and ignore the less important details. So overall the right compromises in game graphics to best suit the console the game is on, is the best way to get a great looking game.
It's exactly why the PS4 and Nintendo Switch both have good looking and terrible looking games.

This. These devs know what to compromise and how to best utilize the system. Artistic direction matters just as much as graphics. Digital tricks to cover over technical limitations is how you achieve this level of presentation.

I have never been this immersed and excited about a game since mafia 1. I literally cant tell the difference between a movie and a game when I play this. It’s a milestone and so glad that I found this.

Finally playing this game, it's amazing, my only issue is that most if not all of the time only your character is in focus and everything else if super blurred out...
Sony exclusives always look mind blowing!! Look at the last of us, uncharted 4, god of war, killzone, the order 1866, horizon zero dawn, heavy rain etc.. If the pro and base ps4 can produce these graphics just imagine the PS5!!

They should license this tech to telltale games not just for graphics but also even to give em lessons on how to make dialague changes and gameplay choices that actually lead to mutiple branching paths rather then just 2 branching paths like most telltale games

This is proof that hardware isn't everything when it comes to graphics..
I think this gen was the generation of light engines, that seems to be where most progress and focus has been made.
I still notice, however, the slightly jagged edges to objects and character models, e.g. his finger tips when playing with the coin in the lift, (elevator).

Ultimately it does kinda feel boring tho😅 seeing as there’s no real competition with Sony in the first party space, save Nintendo of course. I wish all first party were as diverse in the experiences they offered. Can’t wait for the next one tho😅
