11. We look for a reason to engage an interesting-watch-wearing stranger in casual conversation, so that we can ask about his watch and show him ours, preferably without appearing a total berk.
I have always been a car freak and can pick a brand and model from a mile away. Now that I'm into watches I do the same thing and try to name every watch I see.
Get out of my head! Wow, that was so spot on. I am always scanning other people wrists and can't help speaking with someone who has a cool piece. I have also justified some purchases by saying "I can always sell" . This was great. Hope you are staying safe and healthy. Cheers.
As a man who owns a couple of pieces from rolex and grand seiko i can say that both brands are 'the best' for their price tier. But in very different ways! The best is what looks the best to your eye. Everything else is just opinion.
You’re so spot on especially about adjusting to watch size. I typically go back and forth btwn a Panerai 422 and Rolex DSSD. If I wear the PAM for a few days straight and put on the Rolex, it looks super small but only for a few hours and vice-versa. And couldn’t agree more about buying a watch as a store of value (brand dependent of course). Been pondering the acquisition of a GMT Coke Fat Lady as my first vintage/pseudo-vintage watch as it should easily maintain its value and even potentially tuen into an investment.
Great to see you well and keeping safe. Never thought of watches from an art perspective. You are correct, it’s my art form. My latest purchase is Omega Moonwatch with exhibition case. I look at the back more than the face as the engineering is exquisite. One thing I like very much about this piece over my other watches is the simplicity of use. No date, no hacking seconds. Wind, set and forget. This is my first manual wind watch and I love the feel of a connection when I wind it before wearing. The reason I buy watches is two fold. I like the story behind the name and will it fit me. I’ve an 8” wrist. 40mm> look like ladies watches on me. Keep up the great work and stay safe sir. Cin Cin.
I think some people can get scoffy over quartz, some cheap quartz is understandable, but for some it's perfectly valid as people have meaning invested into these watches like any mechanical ones. I have a quartz watch my parents gave me when they got married several years ago and whenever I wear it, I do so proudly because of what it means to me and them 👍
Every watch has a place and quartz movements actually make a lot of scenes for certain watches. Nothing wrong with a quartz watch. Both quartz watches and mechanical watches should have a place in a collection. And James as you pointed out the feelings and memories you have with the watch are really what makes it special. I invite you to subscribe to my channel next week Im going to release a review I did on a really neat titanium quartz watch with tritium gas tubes I think you would enjoy it !
I enjoy my quartz and solar watches and don’t compare them to my automatics. Nice to grab and go without setting the time. Plus they’re super accurate and I buy them because I’m attracted to them.
Great video! I believe I have around 32 watches in my current collection, of which I keep telling myself I own too many watches. I go through binges where I’ll sell some that I fell I’m done with, then turn around a few months later and buy a few more that catch my eye. I’m definitely into the art aspect of a watch more than anything else. My big crazy is that when I’m home, I tend to change the watch I’m wearing, multiple time...like I can’t make up my mind on which one I want to wear the most. This morning, in the course of one hour, I went from an Axios Iornclad Batman to my Omega 300, to my Seiko “Ripley”, Giugiaro, which is the one I finally settled on. I’m sure many other enthusiasts do similar. Mike
Great video man ! You nailed it . I can truly relate with you when it comes to spotting watches in the public or movies . It’s weird how watch people can recognize each other - even if you sometimes stare at someone’s wrist , you get the distinct feeling they don’t mind because they want you to share the joy .
Fair video, absolutely. Like others, I agree in that you’ve called me out and we’ve not even met 😂 I’d add that watch collectors change tastes over time but like fashion, we often come back to what we once loved. I’d also add that we constantly evolve our grail to be a few steps above our affordability bracket. I started collecting when I was on minimum wage, and soon bought my then grail. I then created a new grail, and got that. I have another now and whilst I don’t think I’ll get to it cough Lange Datograph *cough*, I feel my point is valid 😊
Watch guys who have a smaller watches always says they wear much larger. Guys with large watches always say that they wear smaller on the wrist. Apparently there are no watches that are too small or large. They all fit comfortably on the wrist?!
Hi brother, I really enjoy your videos, I’m here in the USA and I just bought my self a beautiful yacht master blue 40. Take care stay safe...Hard times!
...Looking at one’s watch to find out the time, staring for a full 30-sec before looking away, then having to look back because you didn’t actually see the time!
My watches are associated with a places and times when I purchased them. One of my favourite watches is one I purchased on a nice holiday to the USA. I am sure the ambiance and feelings associated with the holiday contribute to how I feel about and appreciate my watch. It is definitely a keeper.
Here’s one I do and I’m sure many others do as well. Waking up and putting one of my watches on just to sit in the chair and watch tv on the weekend, great video definitely guilty of doing most of the ones in the list
I have something to add. As a watch fanatic, I’ve been one to initiate new hobbies/projects solely for the purpose of using a complication/feature of my watch. For example, taking up diving to use my Pelagos. Or to take the car out to a stretch of road with mile markers just to “test” out the tachometer function of my chronograph.
Lol... guilty to all of the above. I also find myself educating non-collectors. I had my insurance agent's attention with the story about my Reverso. I enjoyed the conversation and he acted like I had opened up a new world to him that he was not aware of. I think he may be a newbie in progress now :). Great video. Take care. John
All good points! Enjoy your videos. One thing I do which amuses my wife and daughter is I never remove my watch except if I'm working on something that could harm it, or foe shower time haha. When I do shower though I ALWAYS carefully place it on something soft NOT the bare countertop. I also make sure the toilet lid is down which is nearby hahaha. They get great fun out of this for some reason. Also the steam helps clean watch and I use s mirco fiber cloth immediately after. You would think with all this care I may have a Patek or something but my modest earnings only allow a SEAMASTER prof 2016 CERAMIC. So far....🤣
I have Omega’s and I love Rolex’s too👍🏼 big Hamilton fan also. That little W10 reissue is beautiful. I think it’s a blend of design engineering quality history style that catches my eye. Real watch fans like lots of brands👍🏼
Awesome video, I just kept smiling and nodding as you went down the list. One thing I do is when shopping for clothes, I envision the watch I will wear with the items I am buying. I don't know if that is just a me thing or if other "watch guys/gals" do the same thing.
Like ice creams, I am enjoying your videos with the little spoon!! Great comments and you are absolutely right. Fortunately I am not the only one thinking like this.
Damn, guilty on all counts 😂 In addition I have found myself checking how the watches look in the mirror .. I mean wtf is wrong with me! Great vid as always, stay safe down there🙏 👍
Checking them in the mirror is a necessary step, it shows us what OTHERS see. Too many size complainers bitch about a 36mm Rolex but.....looking at a modern one on the wrist shows how beautifully proportioned it is, and how good it looks on any wrist.
Wow!... You hit the nail on the head buddy. So real and true on so many levels. Is it a hobby or a illness? Maybe a lifestyle choice. After watching your video I became a subscriber. Two thumbs up and a snap in a circle.
Seniore, first I hope you are still doing fine!? Second, I can keep it short in just two words: All true! You are absolutely right and again 100% on point! That’s the way it is for most of us watch collectors. Sometimes a shame, but that’s the way it is. I don’t care if someone is collecting Hamiltons or whatever, so I am from Germany and I have a friend who was collecting Sinn. Now he changed to Tudor and thinks about getting his first Rolex... What I mean is, as long, as he collects any watches, we immediately have something in common and to talk about, that’s a great thing. And we all grow on/in collecting watches that we can afford. At least. Jacobs and RM don’t speak to me, great watches, definitely, but just not my cup of tea, that would be the same, if money didn’t matter for sure, but that‘s just my two cent about those brands but I gotta say I‘m happy they exist! Who likes them, like watches an so we immediately have something in common and to talk about. Stay safe Seniore!
This is so funny...all the points you mentioned I am guilty of. The funny thing is that I cannot actually understand how or when I became a watch snob...I only have 8 watches, and I love all of them...but I'm also constantly looking for other vintage watches...and now Ive bought a brand new Yachtmaster...how the hell did that happen?? Thanks for these rambles, most entertaining ..love 'em, cheers.
All points so true. Remember buying my first Rolex (Explorer 39mm) and driving home from the A.D. absolutely convinced I'd been sold the 36mm version, despite the many noticeable differences between the models. 😂
Love the sub. Ireland on a decent lockdown now from midnight tonight. Hope all is well for you and your family dude. Stay safe and all your viewers too.

Totally!
Happens all the time. Glance at watch, pick up phone to check time. #TrueSrory

Checking the time or admiring a watch's looks, are mutually exclusive operations.

Your video on the 2 tone Rose gold GMT Master 2 hooked me in - and I was lucky was lucky enough to get one from my AD last week. As always, great video and glad to see you healthy in Italy!
Jeff evans I got the same watch a few days before Christmas-I’ve heard of a lot of people who picked up a 126711chnr in the last few months!!
Sampson Chan I agree-especially in the gray market. I’m going to sit on the sidelines for the next few months-Rolex might have the crown 👑 but cash is king 👑!!
guilty as charged . . . 🙌🏼
Then there are all the hardware ocd, like when the second-hand are at 12, the minute-hand HAS to be exactly pointing at the index. The date has to change VERY close to midnight. And you try-out numerous watch-positions for the night, to make the watch be as precise as possible . . . . .and so on 😁
Wow I'm floored. Reflection time. 😂😂 Absolutely the best video for a watch enthusiast. A must watch!
Guilty of all 10 and love the analogy of being an art collector.. we definitely see and feel something in beautiful watches that others simply don’t. Keep the content coming!
You my friend are , the art of the watch. Great content... you're peaking my interest with areas I never thought to explore. Well done!
Another fun video, thank you! I always appreciate the attachment of certain events with the purchase of a new watch. Timeless memories.
You are so absolutley right on every single count mate. Makes you laugh at yourself. BRILLIANT
I'm from the Boston area. There were many years I knew the Yankees had the better team... I just never said it out loud... LOL! A recently posted photo on the web showed Tom Brady signing his new contract with Tampa Bay. Guess what the first thing I noticed was... he was wearing an IWC!
cjcar63 Hahaha...I also expanded the pic to check out his watch. CRAZY!!!
cjcar63 me too
I work in the pub in Kensington.Everyday behind the bar is like a watch exhibition 😂 So true.Love it.
11. We look for a reason to engage an interesting-watch-wearing stranger in casual conversation, so that we can ask about his watch and show him ours, preferably without appearing a total berk.
This is a good one, and Yes I'm guilty.
I have always been a car freak and can pick a brand and model from a mile away. Now that I'm into watches I do the same thing and try to name every watch I see.
Spot on, again. Another thing would be remembering the watches that people you might know and meet briefly were wearing.
Guilty of 10/10. Specially the fashion watch store skip. Made me smile
Your channel came out of nowhere but feels like it has always been part of the community.
Get out of my head! Wow, that was so spot on. I am always scanning other people wrists and can't help speaking with someone who has a cool piece. I have also justified some purchases by saying "I can always sell" . This was great. Hope you are staying safe and healthy. Cheers.
I could not help but laugh as each of these points hit home so bad haha
Wearing watches on both wrists around the house so I can admire them at the same time😅
trying to give more wrist time for each timepiece that i have bought.
Cin Cin.
Danke!
Booking my session with the Psychiatrist right now following this 😂👍
I think some people can get scoffy over quartz, some cheap quartz is understandable, but for some it's perfectly valid as people have meaning invested into these watches like any mechanical ones.
@@themightysquid good to have all three in a collection why limit ones self
This content was spot on, I had to replay it to my wife to show her that I’m not a freak :’-)
Mate I watched the first 5 minutes and already clicked like. It’s crazy how many of us have the same habits, mentality and regrets. Great video👍
Hi brother, I really enjoy your videos, I’m here in the USA and I just bought my self a beautiful yacht master blue 40. Take care stay safe...Hard times!
Made the exact same move... great choice, over looked by so many. Wishing good health and enjoy the time piece.
😂 yep, pretty much all of them! Glad it’s not just me. Great video.
...Looking at one’s watch to find out the time, staring for a full 30-sec before looking away, then having to look back because you didn’t actually see the time!
My watches are associated with a places and times when I purchased them. One of my favourite watches is one I purchased on a nice holiday to the USA. I am sure the ambiance and feelings associated with the holiday contribute to how I feel about and appreciate my watch. It is definitely a keeper.
Exactly!
Here’s one I do and I’m sure many others do as well. Waking up and putting one of my watches on just to sit in the chair and watch tv on the weekend, great video definitely guilty of doing most of the ones in the list
Adding: wearing a watch on both wrists because somehow they both need to be loved today.
milestube1 mark from long island does that lol
Spot-on, I’ve tried to like the Rolex Daytona, bought and sold three times and still not sure. Great video.
Keep safe
YEP! That's me... I do all of these things. Once again you're spot on! Thanks for the well thought out and covered content... MK
I agree with you. Another one for me was that my kids will get them someday
I feel my innermost thoughts have now been aired....Great Video !
Lol... guilty to all of the above.
So far....🤣
Best watch channel on You Tube!! Awesome mate. Cheers
Love your videos man. Particularly guilty of watch-spotting and I really get pissed when I see a guy NOT wearing a watch...
I have Omega’s and I love Rolex’s too👍🏼 big Hamilton fan also. That little W10 reissue is beautiful. I think it’s a blend of design engineering quality history style that catches my eye. Real watch fans like lots of brands👍🏼
Brilliant. Stay safe and thanks for the current Italy updates
Oisin, Just when I thought that you could not top your video on the "7 Types of Watch Collectors", you did... Brilliant!
Great video mate, always a pleasure to watch
Heres a guy with a stack of Rolexs... that gave a few Seikos awesome reviews... (Turtle and Alpinist)! :) I love your channel!
Damn, guilty on all counts 😂 In addition I have found myself checking how the watches look in the mirror .. I mean wtf is wrong with me! Great vid as always, stay safe down there🙏 👍
your not the only one man we are all guilty
Checking them in the mirror is a necessary step, it shows us what OTHERS see. Too many size complainers bitch about a 36mm Rolex but.....looking at a modern one on the wrist shows how beautifully proportioned it is, and how good it looks on any wrist.
I like you're comparison to fine art and fine watches. Very nice.
@6:43 Is that the square in downtown Vicenza?
Wow!... You hit the nail on the head buddy. So real and true on so many levels. Is it a hobby or a illness? Maybe a lifestyle choice. After watching your video I became a subscriber. Two thumbs up and a snap in a circle.
Enjoyed the vid Oisin,Only thing i can fault on my part is that i never Scoff at watches i cant afford,I so want a nice Rolex,And i love Omega.
Excellent description. As always well done.
