Massive School Boy Error by me. Apologies... I've updated accordingly and given myself a talking to about taping up your wheels if you go on Sand! It's actually not to bad once the diffs are sorted! shop.makerfire.com/collections/1-10-scale/products/wltoys-104019-1-10-2-4g-4wd-55km-h-brushless-high-speed-racing-car?aff=286
You should punch holes in the top of the tires so the sand and water escape when driving. I do it to all my RCs with a leather punch. If the tires are already glued on using a brass tube in a drill and sharpen it by running an Exacto blade inside it then drill holes in the tire. I put 4 holes most people put just 2 holes. Rich Duperdash has a good video on how to do it with a brass tube.
Tomley, I've bought 3 different WLToy RC Cars due to your videos. They are great value. But could still be some bizarre initial build quality or adjustment issues on this one, really twitchy handling has many culprits. It would be interesting to see the wheel alignment measurements. A little toe in at the rear and a smidge of toe out at the front can help straight-line stability for off road soft tire and suspended vehicles. Also a little negative camber on the rear helps as the travel on a-arm suspension changes the camber naturally over the stroke from fully compressed to full drop out (and vis-versa), crossing over the tire center line while the wheel is slipping/spinning changes the way the tire pushes on the vehicle. That tire hop and differential lumpyness was a great observation, i couldnt tell if it totally fixed the issue or not. Keep us posted if you continue working it through it. Always appreciate honest reviews, something seemed wrong and you are helping us figure out.
HUGE thanks to you Phil. I just received my review copy and both diffs are locked. I never watch someone else's video before reviewing my own but your title was so cryptic and I am glad i did. What a pain they are to open though to get to the diffs! 🙄😳 But seriously. Thanks for the tip! have a lovely evening. 😊👌👍🏼
@@JohnRobinsonRC I'm glad you watched. It should means you'll have a better experience than me! I'll look out for your video... and yes, they are a right pain to access!
Just got my WLtoys 104018 (Same as 104019 except different body) and can confirm the diffs are still an issue. I ended up designing and 3d printing a 1mm spacer for the diff housing so I could leave the little washers in. They also lacked grease on the inside and absolutely zero grease on the outside. Finally got to take her for a rip after I sorted out the diffs and greased them up. It's quite a good little 1/12 monster truck. Thanks for mentioning the diff issue!
This is why I love this channel! Who else admits thier mess up and shows fixing it! Love honest reviews and this is were it's at! He actually reads his comments! So awesome! Thanks
Yes, once I’d removed the sand, the difference was so much that I couldn’t leave the original video without mentioning it. So decided to do a quick re edit. (Well.. 2hrs or so isn’t all that quick lol)
Thanks for the your correction and honesty. We all make mistakes. If the tires still tend to wobble to some degree I would mention one thing to consider. I bought an Arrma Infraction Mega and the rear wheels wobbled a lot. When I move the rear tires to the front they did not. I found that the rear axles in the wheels were not straight. You could hardly tell by looking at them, but once they were changed it made a huge difference.
Cheers Michael. When I tested it with once removing the sand, it was like a night & day difference. I was not happy to leave the original video up as it was not really fair
Wow, one of the very few RUclipsrs who cares about his viewers by actually reading their comments, this is what will make our community of RC enthusiasts flourish!!!
That's definitely why you always want to seal the wheels and vent the tires. Sand can't get stuck in them and get them unbalanced. Also stops water from getting stuck in and ruining the foams. Got a video on my channel that shows how to do it :-)
Oooh, thanks for that. Gonna check my 1/8 truggy tyres for sand as they wobble all over the place. Great video. Looking for something for my little one, this could be the one
The old thinner CVD joints in the 124019 yes they where thinner but much much higher quality, I run a 540 absima 8.5t with 3s (80mph) and never yet broke a standard CVD
RC Expats Hong Kong did a review a Couple days ago and also said it didnt steer very well and also broke the cvd. I dont know about this one. I want to love it but im torn LOL. We have the brushed version and absolutely love it. My daughter named it Dr. Danger LOL
Double upload is always nice even if it’s kinda the same video 😝 great to see you figured it out.your absolutely correct about the diffs and it’s actually common with a lot of cheaper rc’s where theirs either no diff fluid, mold defect, and some just cranked down too tight.
I got one of the brushed ones. Less than 7 days of owning it and the rear diff sounds like its eating itself. I only used it on grass and bought it because of a few tubers saying its a good starter car so I was pretty pissed. Supplier is saying they are replacing it but I have been waiting for a replacement now for longer than I owned the bloody thing. Including the time it took to ship to me originally. it simply shouldn't have happened to start with so WLToys haven't got a great name in my books atm.
Hey mate .. this updated vid is more fair on this little rc .👍🏼 I had trouble initially on mine first few minutes. After that it opened up and drove fine ! Still keep up the good work Phil 👍🏼👍🏼
Your a good man for admitting being wrong. Made a huge difference after. It’s funny because I’ve had expensive RC’s where right from the start had loose pinions,no shock oil, loose wheel nuts, drive shaft pins fall right out etc. etc. So it’s even more aggravating when you pay so much & have to wrench on it & like you said how many people have the time or skill to wrench on it. A good example is my Losi Lasernut I absolutely love it but it breaks or shall I say falls apart all the time & I keep having to buy parts. It’s been down & just got a new pinion & gear because the pinion came loose for the lost count time & ruined both the pinion & the gear was bent. I also got a set of center dog bones because the pins on the end keep falling out. It’s becoming a money pit. But hopefully after these new parts it’ll be up & running. I’m pretty gentle with mine I see people bashing them & I’m like ok did I just get a bad one because mine would fall apart. Oh ya & the rear rod ends keep breaking 🤨
Yes, I get a lot of comments saying this is ‘cheap junk’ etc… when I have also had expensive stuff that has issues straight out the box. That’s why it’s important to have a little hand on experience with this stuff

The brushless Wltoys 1/12th and 1/14th cars will need the "metal upgrade" center shaft and at least the rear diff upgraded. The upgrade parts appear to have solid bronze gears vs the original sintered metal parts. Also, a set of LC Racing CVD's wouldn't not be a bad idea. The originals are spaghetti. They bend easily.
Yes… it make sense that sand would have got in… but I’ve ran so many cars on that beach and never had this issue. At least I’ll remember for next time!
