I've been enjoying the MJX Hyper Go cars, which claim to be 16th scale. So easy to throw them in a messenger bag and take them anywhere. I have other great cars at much larger scales, but none of them are as portable.

Understanding the numbering system for WLToys - UNLOCKED. That's quite easy to remember. I just started this hobby and I have 4x WPL D12's at 1/10th scale. I recently ordered a WLToys 124016 V2. I chose WLToys for performance and value. I chose the 124016 over the other similar WLToys models because I prefer the looks of it.

Great video Ben. These cars are a great alternative for people who just can't afford the bigger brands, or want multiple vehicles. I'm holding out for the 104019 which is a brushless version of the 104009.

Cool video! I have moved on to racing 1/8 scale but it was the affordability of these that got my interest really peeked... And it has grown since for racing remote controlled cars offroad. Great video and great entry into rc hobby cars!

The last 2 numbers are what version they are. There doesn't seem to be an indication for brushless that I'm aware of. This naming convention is a little inconsistent though. The 104009 is CLEARLY 1:12 scale. And a few others are like that, but for the most part, ignoring that they are all a little undersized, the name is scale, 4x4 "is there a 2x4?" And version number.

124016 I got and stripped the back gear on first run in a bit long grass 😢 it's in bits in shed awaiting new parts. Apart from that happening it was running very fast and seamed like a very good rc buggy but nothing like my beast max for bashing that thing is a tank. 😂 55 pound bargain and will hit 50mph on 3s if you get lucky to get one with right esc it's the one with out screws to attach it to body, it's attached with double sided tape. 3s it will run. Even though it says 2s on esc 😂. One with screws to hold esc down will blow on 3s. Luck off the drew when buying one of thses cars.

Super easy to wrench on, reasonably quick and i haven't managed to break anything yet. Thank god for most of the suspension parts being on ball sockets.

Yes, for about a year or 2. They were a good option. In fact, a great Traxxas, Arrma, Losing ass kicking beast fir let's say a year or 2 until The good old american dollar, it became the overwhelming drive, overpowering The very minimal quality that it had, but yet at the price point in which you got blew. Those companies out of the water nowadays you get what you pay for period you put those in the closet in the garage sail on craigslist, and let's find the next hidden diamond in the ruff! Is there anything that isn't weak on that 144001? You just named all the parts that come with the car besides the motor and ESC in the tires. Lol I sure as heck wouldn't buy it hearing that. I'll pick up a MJX hyper go and go have fun all day long not for just 5 minutes and replace your shocks cuz they bent, put a new wing on it and the other things that you mentioned. Forget about that. I don't have all the money in the world to buy the car bash it for a little bit and replace all these freaking parts no way.

In the 144001 model, the differential wears at least quickly, even if it has been filled with vaseline. The Cardan shaft can also bend if you jump and come down nose first. Drive shaft cups wear out quickly. Lower support arms must be in stock at home. And the carbon holder arm broke off from the engine. I think I will buy the brushless version next.. maybe size 1:12 and maybe model 124008 or 124007 or 124017. Im also interested MJX hyper go models. They say that they are durable.
But I just started the hobby and bought 3 more 2s batteries, so I have a total of 4, I want a use for them, preferably a car that moves hard even with a 2s battery.

Bought a 144002 rtr that equips with brushless 3650 motor, then the front arm rod twisted (the seller has already upgraded it to 144010 before sell) and the plastic sheering system broke without serious crashes, probably due to the strong steering force because it happened when turning left. Now upgraded the sheering system with aluminum alloy parts, changed back the front arm to plastic pieces, substituted 2838 and carbon fiber chassis for 3650 and metal chassis, and see would it be fixed later.... Errrrr
The total cost goes near to a little higher than a half of entry traxxas rc price.

I have the 124017 V2. I've found it to be a bit much on our small track. It has required various driveline upgrades to be durable. I might make it a street car and get a 124019 for offroad use. I also have a lowly Traxxas Rustler XL-5, and with some cheap upgrades it has been incredibly solid and is my favorite RC of all time.

Nice video! I have an 019 which as brushed I was really surprised at the speed! I didn’t find mine weak tbh it’s like anything if you don’t crash it then it will be just fine. Obviously at the speeds they run a crash is gonna cause big problems.
I had an issues after a crash with another car that the front right steering arm came out (the little pin) if you look at the front of the car and behind the front differential there are these metal brackets with plastic things that hold the steering arm pins in place. Those on mine broke and caused an issue.
I find the chassis is weak/soft metal it takes deep scratches or worse just from driving on the ears from stones and concrete. Overall a great car for the money.
I was tempted to buy the 1/10 buggy for a speed run car but I’m having trouble finding spares in uk even an engine mount so I’m not so sure if I want one or just go with the 017

I have a 959A (brushed 16th scale) and a 124017 v2. The 959A has been upgraded to a 550 motor, Deans battery connector, full metal chassis and suspension. I cut away part of the body to clear the cooling fins on the motor. It looks slick. The receiver/ESC was depotted. The MOSFETs were swapped for a set with much lower on resistance and faster switching speed. The pair with their tabs tied to negative were soldered to the bottom of the board. A pair of custom heatsinks were made for the 4 MOSTETs, one heatsink for each side of the board. The traces on the PCB were beefed up by soldering solder wick on the high current sections. This is all topped off with a set of tires from the 979A. This little thing goes 45MPH on a 2S.
The 124017 is relatively new to me. I've only had it about 6 months. It has all metal suspension and larger axle shafts. Sadly, the cross pin holes for the hex wheel adaptors are drilled about 1.25mm too far down the stub shaft, so the adaptor does not properly seat on the inner race of the bearing. This leaves a ton of slop at the wheel. This is not a big deal running as a park basher, but any high speed runs are just uncontrollable.

There are 2 problems with this cheap Wltoys. Problem number 1 is that they are toys and that leads us to problem number 2. When you start using them as real RC cars they start to brake and you end up spending twice (or more) the money you spent for buing it. Don't get me wrong I have 1 WLtoys and 2 WPL crawlers. I spent a ton of money on my C24/1, and it is still not near a brand RC. If you like to mend and built more than play then go ahead, they are great for starting the hobby. My advice is if you are young or you want something for you child buy ONE, the chipest you can find, and don't spend money on it. Brushed versions are just fine, they are more drivable and don't disindgrade as much as the brushless. Keep your money and buy an entry level Arrma, Traxxas, Tamiya etc. There are alot of RCs with 200€.

The only rc cars that don't brake are the ones that do a top speed of 12mph otherwise get ready to buy parts.

I was worried it would injure someone or I would damage something with it to be honest. I saw a review on Claires RC channel on the wl toys 144010 last year and it impressed me.
