You got the sub. Here's why: Incredibly clear step by step instructions. And no janky music bed. Thank you on both counts. I've not done brakes before but now I understand the process.
Absolutely awesome!!! I knew they'd look great, but, to be honest, the actual result once mounted is even better than i expected. Great job, Chris and great explanation too, as usual.
Thanks for the detailed video on this project. I have looked all over RUclips this evening and your video is by far the most informative and helpful, hands down. I am currently replacing the rear brake pads and rotors on my new-to-me 2013 GS. I am now subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your content.
DON’T FORGET THE LOCK TIGHT GUYS! I did this conversion and one of the pins came out while driving. The pin wedged between the caliper screw hole and my wheel spoke, locking the wheel while I was driving. Not only did this cut through the inside of all 5 spokes, but it i was driving on the highway I could have died. These pins do not need to be removed so I used red lock tight.
very nice info,, I am in the middle of upgrading my 2008 c6 with c5 Brembo calipers that i bought real cheap from this guy, he told me that it would fit my c6, and i just saw it it is true,, ,coz I haven't try it yet I was looking for this info,,,,i think i made a good buy,,,225 for the whole set, with front 13in slater disc, thx bro,, keep it up the good info,, thx thx and thx,,, !!!!!
I've been following you for a couple years I got a 04 convertible I've just put 19 inch wheels all the way around I have the C6 front brakes. But I have one hand had a stroke 8 years ago 4 months after I bought my car. Got to get somebody to do it for me. I wish you was my neighbor. I'm going to try to put my front calipers on the back in my C6 calipers on the front
Great vid. I’d recommend swapping out the ceramic pads for Powerstop Z26 carbon pads. Much better bite than the regular ceramic pads. Also, always bed your brakes. There is a reason the manufacturer of the pads and rotors calls for it. It allows the two surfaces to wear evenly. If you get any shudder in your brakes, re-bed them to remove imperfections.
Great job,Chris. You make a hard job look easy. Of course, having the right tools helps! Some of us have to improvise using an adjustable wrench. Its nice having a complete garage set of tools at your disposal. Looking forward to part 3, and all your future help videos.
Hey brother thank you for sharing this video, I would like to replace my calipers on my c5, question...those c6 z06 calipers fit directly into a c5 corvette? Or needs spacers?
Thanks for this video..want to do this video so bad..just bought a new set on my stock rims only have 5000 miles on my 2004..guess it can wait..definitely on my to do list.
I ordered the full front kit from Summit Racing (Brake calipers, pads , rotors and brake lines ) it has been back ordered since April, but I’m curious if I will also need the Retaining Pin Kit since the calipers are brand new from Powerstop or will it come with it? I hate delivery date keeps getting pushed back! I want them!!
About the wheels. Are the wheels for the Z06/Grand Sport a bit wider than the base coupe. With that, was there any issues with the wheels fitting inside the fenders?
Hey man, great video. I purchased used c6 GS brakes. It has the brake lines still attached to the calipers. Could I just use them on my c5 or so I need to order new ones like you did? Thanks👍🏻
I know you stated the 18" rims are required. I have aftermarket 18" rims all the way around. What is the minimal inner diameter of the rim for front and back to fit these C6 calipers?
@@mycorvettelife I need to find out the complete diameter of those braking systems and then measure the inner diameter of my rims. Plus the offset, and or back spacing.
wow, excellent work. Very detailed video for this. I am having the hardest time finding the calipers new. RockAuto doesn't seem to sell them anymore but I think I found a good alternative going with Wilwood setup. Have you had any experience or seen other vettes in comparison with the wilwood brakes. Cheers!
Do you have the SKU for the TPS Brake line? I see SKU TPS-SSBLC6 but it says its for Base/Z51 and since these are Z06 going on a C5 I can't tell if these are the right ones. Thanks
Since the rotors are directional drilled, wouldn't both front rotors have to be two separate part numbers and both rear rotors two separate part numbers? If you put the same roter on both sides of the front then one of them would be rotating backwards.
I'd consider using one-piece pads instead of the 3-piece setup. Hawk, and I'm sure other manufacturers, offers them. They won't taper like the 3-piece setup, and there's a lot more mass to disipate heat.
Hey Chris love the video, and that you listed all the parts and where to get them. Very cool man. But you didnt say a torque specs on the caliper retaining pins. I'm installing mine this morning. What did you torque your to? Again....fantastic videos bro.
Great Video Chris I want to purchase set of C7 rims for my C5 I read so many positive and negative reviews on the topic. The price on EBay is around $800. Will they bolt up or do I need spacers. Not to crazy about spacers.
Great video. Thanks for the tips, especially the savings on the pads and everything. WOW Rock Auto really has great pricing! Did you polish your suspension knuckles at some point or are they newer??
Just before the 8 Minute mark, why would you put the lubricant on the back of a pad instead of putting it around the lip of the piston? It's clear to see in the video and for the viewers and this flat area that presses against the pad is what should be lubricated. That's the part that rubs against the back of the pad and indiscriminately putting lubricant on the back of the pad is not only a waste of time but if done improperly that's where the "brake squeal" is generated. It can be compared to wetting the finger and rubbing the top of a wine glass and you will find you can go very, very slow and create a big squeal! I'm watching the videos because I too would like to put C6 brakes on my C5, except I will go with carbon ceramic discs and of course overall wheel diameter will need to be increased. Now back to the video!
@@mycorvettelife you missed the point altogether. Most people don't understand that brake squeal is not due to the pad touching the disc! And as for the cost, Tell Me Something I Don't Know!
You got the sub. Here's why: Incredibly clear step by step instructions. And no janky music bed. Thank you on both counts. I've not done brakes before but now I understand the process.
My goodness, very good video. No nonsense music or silly jokes and shenanigans. Subscribed!
Thanks

Too funny I just asked about a video on your Z06 brake conversion and bam here it is. THANKS for all of your informative videos.
Very cool upgrade and great walk-through series! As a fellow C5 guy I really appreciate the time you put into your vids.
Dude, that C5 of yours is looking sweet with those new calipers and rotors man. Really cool!!! 😎

Yikes
Absolutely right 👍
Wow! Do you know the proper torque spec for these pins? I will most certainly use red loctite but can’t find a proper torque spec
Your new brakes and wheels look amazing on your Corvette!
Those calipers are crazy.
These videos are simply fantastic. Thank you!
Nice clean install. Check out a set of line wrenches...great holding power for brake lines and such.
This is true. I have a set of SAE, I need to get a metric set.

May I ask you what wheels are you using and what the offsets are? Thanks, by the way your videos are awesome
Once again an awesome video Chris, and thanks for the tip on the torque spec!!!, breaking one of those banjo bolts can be horrific😎
Nice vid Chris... Would you know if the C6 ZO6 calipers and rotors you used (front and rear) would work on a C4... Thanks... Mark
Great video. Did you need wheel spacers to get the clearance for the wider calipers?
Great job on the video Chris! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome job dude!

I thought the silicone grease was for the pins, that the pads
ride on?
No
Look great man im going to paint mine red till i can afford wheels and tires going the same rout you did little at a time
Can you run the ZO6 rear brake caliper and rotor on a c 5 wheel
Funny that it fits plug n play!
Will they fit my 06 Zo6 spider rims, I have on my C5?..............JB........
Yes

About the wheels. Are the wheels for the Z06/Grand Sport a bit wider than the base coupe. With that, was there any issues with the wheels fitting inside the fenders?
C6Z and GS wheels are wider. I had C6Z wheel prior to this. Still needed a 1” spacer.
What's sad is now the calipers are almost 500+ a piece as of June 2024. Crazy how much they have skyrocketed in price.
Can you tell me what the size and offset are on your wheels
Hey man, great video. I purchased used c6 GS brakes. It has the brake lines still attached to the calipers. Could I just use them on my c5 or so I need to order new ones like you did? Thanks👍🏻
I would suggest getting new.
What’s the offset on the forgestar wheels? Doing this brake upgrade on my 68 camaro and also doin forgestars. Thanks

@@bionic2011 Been asking @ and researching this as well! Minimum inner wheel diameter to clear caliper.
So these calipers bolt right up without any adapter brackets?
Yes

Looking good.
Also, is the master cylinder different on the Z06 breaking system?
No
3:35....11:55 Bimbo brakes always look good on her.
Hi. Is this upgrade is factory bolted into the c5 ? Just calipers with not mounting bracket? Also the rear don't need Mounting bracket?
Direct bolt on.
Hey man, do you know what offset your forgestars are and sizes? I have forgestars and curious if my setup will clear. Thanks
Also, is there a required torque spec on the caliper retaining pins? I seen one guy below had his back out while driving
Is the stock master cylinder enough for the up grade?
Yes
How much of a performance difference did this make?
I have no way to measure. It’s significant.
Chris, on the old brakes you had a caliper and a bracket, did the new brakes not have the bracket?
The new brakes do not require a bracket. Different design.
Hi Chris nice presentation. Will the C5 Z06 wheels work with the C6 Z06 brakes?
Got my answer.
No
If you use c5z rear wheels and all 4 corners that will work.
Since the rotors are directional drilled, wouldn't both front rotors have to be two separate part numbers and both rear rotors two separate part numbers? If you put the same roter on both sides of the front then one of them would be rotating backwards.
I’ve been asked this many times and I have confirmed that GM used the same rotors on both sides.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I have been looking into it the last hour or so and thought I was losing my mind.
Love your videos by the way
Hey for the brake lines from tps did they say “05 to 07 corvette” STD?
No, 97-04
I'd consider using one-piece pads instead of the 3-piece setup. Hawk, and I'm sure other manufacturers, offers them. They won't taper like the 3-piece setup, and there's a lot more mass to disipate heat.
What wheels are you running. What width and offset
That info is in the video description.
@@mycorvettelife I missed can you just say here?
wheels and wheels specs please

It’s just hand tight until they are flush with the face of the caliper. Make sure to use Locktite!

Stingray or GS/Z06 wheels?
Thanks
I was wondering if you'd be willing to sell your old front Calipers and brackets? BTW great video...I watched the first one too.
Already sold
@@mycorvettelife awww dang gonn'it 😲😲😲😁👍🏿
Great, thanks!
Good video, but I'm not buying four new wheels to upgrade my brakes.
Need 18 inch wheel now instead of 17 inch?
Yes, as I said at the end of the video. I already have 18” wheels.
You answered it. I never did like the 17 inch in front
At Rock auto for the calipers I dont see those part#.
Right front caliper is 1722574.
Where do yu get those #s
That is 1 of 5 part numbers GM used over the years for the same part. The number I provided also pulls up the part on Rock Auto
Great video. Thanks for the tips, especially the savings on the pads and everything. WOW Rock Auto really has great pricing! Did you polish your suspension knuckles at some point or are they newer??
Wire wheel to clean the up. I have recently thought about polishing them. 🤔
I have a set of black c6 zr1 wheels if anyone wants them. I have these brakes with forgestars as well. You’re looking good.
Location?
Is there any need to upgrade master cylinders or is the OEM C5 master cylinder capable of handling these brakes?
Not required.
Total cost? Noticeable improvement in stopping power?
I have the full cost breakdown in the video description. Yes, very noticeable difference.
Good afternoon can you tell me where do I buy the LMC5 bypass module please let me know.. appreciated very much..
Amazon
Great video but they dont make the calipers anymore =(
Would 19/20 C7 Z06 rims work with this setup?
I’m not 100% sure but I suspect not.
What spacers did you run in the back with the C6 wheels?
Chris, would the installation be the same for the c6?
Yes, exactly the same.
Why not just buy a set of C5 caliper covers? I'm joking, great job and informative video
🤣
I believe the rotors are on the wrong side. Your supposed to follow the vanes inside
Don’t use red lock tite
So $1700 to install this awesome caliper and rotor system but then you have to drop at least another 3K to replace all your tires and rims? Damn.
Who ever said hot rodding was cheap?
Not necessarily: Just grab another two C5 rears and mount them up front.
