    Chriss probably you already know but now is the time to replace bushings and tie rods :-) Hey thanks for this video man, My 98 Vet Ebrake feels like is no longer locking properly due to this adjustment. Now i know how to do it. :-)

    Chevrolet should have make a hole on the backside to easily stick the screwdriver in and adjust the ebrake without taking the tire or much less the brake caliper. Great job.

    Hey Chris, very instructive material, as usual. Didn't even know what an emergency brake looks like, even less it could be adjusted, before this video. I just can't wait to see your new brakes and calipers on!!!

    Good precise video, Chris. Always good to remove excess slack from the emergency brake...never know when it just might be the only stopping system. Also good for making a "bootleggers turn." lol

    Just thought id mention- see that ground on the frame by the electrical connecter ? its a good idea to clean and refasten it because it gets all the crap the tire throws on it . It was the reason for service traction control on my wifes C5. That along with other codes can lead to reduced speed and more. EZ fix

    Gonna have to try this. My e brake doesn't seem to have anything wrong, just hardly works, you can hardly notice that the e brake is enabled if you accidentally leave it up while driving. Been like that since I purchased it.

    I'd like to comment first on your video. Great job. I'd also like to comment on something that many, MANY people, including you, do incorrectly. As a lifetime Toolmaker, it just grinds my butt to no end how people hurl out WRONG information about bolt sizes. The bolt sizes you, and the vast majority also spew out, are described something like this: If a hex head bolt takes a 15mm socket or wrench, that DOES NOT make it a 15mm bolt!!!! Or like the "21mm bolt" you mention. It may take a 21mm WRENCH, but it damn straight is NOT a 21mm bolt!! Perhaps a better description would be "For this bolt, you'll need a 15mm wrench or socket." As I said, you're not the only one who keeps misinforming people about bolt sizes. I guarantee you if you go to Grainger or Fastenal, etc., and tell them you need a 15mm or 21mm bolt, they'll ask you just what the Hell it is you're working on??!!!! In 43 years in the trade, I've NEVER seen, or heard of, a 15mm OR 21mm bolt. They may exist.....Somewhere. but NOT on a C5 Corvette!! Just trying to emphasize correct nomenclature!!

    What's the rule of thumb in determining when the e-brake shoes should be replaced? Save the Wave.🙋‍♂️

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife  4 года назад +1

      Theoretically never if it is used properly. Unless you are driving around with it on they never get worn.

    Got a real solid question for you bud. I didnt everything you did here on the back brakes and adjusting it but when i put the wheels back on and got in it and set the brake it didnt hold at all. It held before i put the wheels back on. Any suggestions now?

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife  3 года назад

      Only thing I can suggest is take the wheel off and check it. Did the spring in the handle come off?

    Do you have a video of how to replace the cable for it? I tried this, and the E-Brake works now, but it’s still just barely. Great video though!

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife  4 года назад +1

      If it works at all, your cable is fine. You need to adjust the shoes more.

      My Corvette Life I’ll try it again. It was last summer that I did it. But if I remember right, they were so tight I couldn’t get the rotors back on, then backed off a little and it still barely worked.

    Wouldnt fitting the drum snug cause it to drag somewhat which would the cause unwanted wear?

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife  3 года назад +1

      Your brake pads always drag. Just the finest amount.

    Hi I had a new rear break job on my 98. The e brake was not holding so I bought it back to the mechanic and he said there was not enough to adjust. I just went for a inspection sticker to a different shop and it wouldn’t pass because the e brake would not hold so he adjusted it for a $140 I went to pull it up the other day and it feels like it was pulling air , no resistance. I did not put it in gear to see if it held. Should it feel like pulling the handle has no resistance? Both mechanics seem like they are qualified. Thanks

    • @mycorvettelife
      @mycorvettelife  3 года назад +1

      Yes there should be a little resistance.

  • @YoshiV819

    It's really just a parking brake, use that in an "emergency" and it'll get interesting. Invest in some brake cleaner and save some old cardboard to put on the floor...
