My Brother... My Brother! Thank you very much for posting this video. The brake bleed method worked like a charm! Keep up the great work... and yes your daughter's comment was super cute! 😊
Great video. Very well done. I put slotted rotors and braided hoses on my C4 almost 5 years ago. To bed my new pads and rotors, I drove to the shopping mall (1 mile away) on a Sunday morning. All green lights + very little traffic + an empty parking lot = no problem. Thanks for sharing.
You just taught me how to bleed brakes. Thank you 👍 although I hear there is still separate fluid in the abs system that you can't access without opening some valve or something??
I agree. I ordered everything from rock auto. Great place for parts. The only thing I would change from this parts list is to upgrade rotors to a performance rotor from rock auto or another source. I would also upgrade the pads to Street performance low dust low noise pad. Also, you must use C5 brake lines, not C6 lines. The round banjo fits perfectly. The rectangle banjo just needs to be filed down a bit to fit the C6 caliper but is an easy common mid that works no problem.
From your first video I got an impression that brake hoses and brake master cylinder went totally empty. Service manual asks not to Do it. I followed your video instructions. I am wondering now, should I bleed the master cylinder first and after that each brake individually ?
Great series and I picked up a few tips for my project. I got all my stuff from TPS. I also got 1-piece Hawk pads and 2 piece rotors to keep the weight down. I also have a brake booster pump and cap to pressurize the system and a tech-2 and hope to be able to use its brake bleed procedure. Once again a nicely done series and enjoyed commentary from your daughter 😆
Chris, saw your c5 on Rick Conti's on Tuesday's Beautiful Rides section of his vlog! Hope you enjoy RIck's content as much as we do! Thank you for the 3-part series on upgrading the brakes. Now, I feel comfortable enough to change my own brake pads when it comes time. You make it all look super simple! Keith - Greenwood, SC
Awesome vid Chris will be using in the future the best c5 go to channel there is Thank you car is ready for car shows this summer more vids coming up he he
@@mycorvettelife Gotcha. I've always pumped and held, then closed the valve as to not let air back in on the return stroke of the pedal. Is that not the case?
Did you, and have you in the past, fully bled the brake system to replace all the fluid? In the video it was hard to tell, some of the fluid was black and dirty and some was not. Brake fluid absorbs a lot of moisture even though it's a closed system, maybe less of an issue in the desert. Are you planning to have someone run the ECBM bleed process with a scan tool? My understanding is while it's not typically necessary it helps restore pedal position and feel and should be run between two normal bleed procedures to maximize the results.
I am looking forward to your first test drive Chris. That should be a night and day difference when you hit that pedal. 😃 Sure sounds like the kiddo approves. 🤣
I couldn't take it any longer...after watching your Z06 brake swap videos, I went out and purchased the kit! I can tell you, the OEM Z06 brake parts are getting harder to find since the haven't been made them in years. I had to source them from various companies and some of the parts are not as cheap as they once were !!!!!!! If you're on the fence about getting this "FACTORY GM" brake swap... now is the time to act, once the new parts are gone, your only option will be the $4000 big brake kits.
My 2003 C5 Z06 just about turning 48,200 miles now always keep in garage drive only on a good day. How many miles before I change the rear differential fluid and change transmission fluid..love your corvette life channel thanks...
I've removed calipers off my Camaro ZL1 and they suggest to replace caliper bolts. They say the stretch when there torqued. I just wanted to pass this information down because I saw your video where you reused your old bolts.
The manufacture says a lot of things that aren't totally necessary. Those bolts are twice as large as your wheel studs, and you don't replace those every time you take your wheel on and off. Just my 2 cents.
Love your Vette! I got a Torch Red 2001 yesterday after work. It has a few glitches, but I’ll get em ironed out! Love your brakes! Is it pretty pricey to upgrade to the Z06 brakes? Also, I like your red fuel rail. Where’d you get it and how much was it?
Looks amazing! I just have stock ones on my 02 Z06...it is just my weekend driver, so can't justify doing this upgrade, as I really wouldn't be putting it to use, never take it to track or autocross or whatnot.
No offence but where is your disclaimer. Is there an official GM TSB outlining this upgrade with factory torque specifications? I know you mean well but those parts were never designed to be installed on your car whether they happen to fit or not, that being said the torque values you used (btw is that torque value stated wet or dry fastener) were not meant for those calipers on that specific application. What was the bolt torqued to previous to you working on the brakes, did you measure the bolt for stretch? Never reuse critical fasteners in any application but especially so on brakes. What exactly does standard loctite do when used on brake components? Loctite 271 once cured for instance will “melt” at 500F, generally speaking under normal use your brakes may not generate those types of temperatures but for any sort of severe duty (track use) your calipers could experience temperatures higher than that and your loctite loses practically all of it’s “locking ability”. I would caution anyone attempting this modification to do some further research on fasteners and engineering best practice, you may find yourself (best case scenario) without insurance coverage should you be involved in a collision due to brake failure, or your insurance company may point to your modification and cite that as the cause of your collision. Be careful people, some modifications can be dangerous and-or or leave you liable for damages and-or injuries, track use is one thing but modifications such as this are not generally acceptable for use on public roads. CYA!
Don, no offense, but I’m not the first person to do this upgrade. If you didn’t know, C5 and C6 share a great many parts, including many suspension components. The C6 uses the exact same spindles as the C5. This is why these are a direct bolt on. No disclaimers needed. Torque specs are exactly the same. This is no different from installing them on a base C6, C6 GS, or C6 Z06. Also, to be clear, these bolts have thread locker from the factory. Also, to be clear, anyone who tracks their car changes their brake pads and re-torques the bolts time after time after time after time. Maybe you should do some more research.
My Corvette Life ... bottoming out the pedal can dislodge dirt and debris in the hydraulic cylinder causing damage to other components since the pedal doesn’t normally travel that far.

Sir .
Thanks for the advice:
Bleed the inside caliper piston first then the out side.
Awesome did not know it was so easy, perfect instuctions I am ready to do the complete upgrade...thank you 10 thumbs up.

can I still run y 17s, 18s rims with this set up?...........JB.
No

Man I'm changing my pads in my c5 with the exact big brake upgrade you gave me the confidence to do it myself thanks bro

I meant easy mod to file a bit of metal off banjo to make it fit.
@@DerekFromBK why the c5 lines over C6 also do you have a C5Z or base you did this mod on
Hey Chris, isn’t there a certain sequence to bleeding brakes on the C5’s?
Same as any car. Furthest corner from the master to the nearest.
You will enjoy those stainless steel brake lines. Makes a big difference.

Rick is great! Watch him all the time.
I wonder if these brakes would clear the factory Z Speedline wheels but in an 18” up front and all around instead of the 17”
No they do not.

I was going to purchase a 2000 vette I was wondering if you have had any problems with the EBCM?
Nope. Not to say that another car wouldn’t. It seems to be hit or miss.
Chris, the break fluid going into the bottle seems dirty, shouldn't all the break fluid be replaced while you are at it ?
That’s what I did.
So do you just keep pumping or are you holding the pedal when forcing the air out?
Pumping
@@mycorvettelife Gotcha. I've always pumped and held, then closed the valve as to not let air back in on the return stroke of the pedal. Is that not the case?
Looks good. Not much mess at all. You're gonna be able to stop on a dime and get 9 cents change back.
Hey Chris anyway you can do a install of front mesh grilles can't find one anywhere on youtube or online thx great videos
How far do your front wheels and tires stick out with the new wheels and brakes?
Didn’t have to bleed the abs? Been thinking about doing this swap on my C5Z. Great vids 👍🏻
No.
bleeding ABS system requires GM tech2 scanning tool right?

All of the parts are available on Rock Auto. They haven’t stopped making any of them.
I like that "I shouldn't have to say this" Yet we should not have to tell people NOT to eat Tide pods either.

It may not be needed according to mileage, but due to age I would do both. Just my opinion.

Hi Chris, I have a 1997 c5, what size front rotor with the new z06 brake upgrade, I’m running 18 inches front and 19 inches back.
Front rotors are 14”.

About $1800 for the brakes. I painted my fuel rail myself.

Man...I want that entire wheel, tire, and breaks setup on my 02. What's the total damage to the wallet on that including the wide body panels?
Wide Quarters - $900
Paint - $800
Forgestar F14 Wheels (No tires) - $1720
C6 Z06 Brake upgrade - $1750
Total: $5170
@@mycorvettelife thanks a bunch..gives me something to shoot for
I allways get prestone dot 4 its only $1 more then dot 3
Dot 4 is more hydroscopic compared to dot 3. For street use dot 3 is better.

perfect job :)
