Custom triple headlight sleepy eye KnightDriveTV headlight kit in development, see video and upcoming updates!: ruclips.net/video/V7UxmSM8SJM/видео.html
Subscribed. Sold my ‘02 Z06 and I’m looking to get back into one here shortly. Glad I found your channel. And thank you for paving the way for more aftermarket parts for the C5 Z06.
Lots more ahead for C5 and C6. I also throw a little off road in there, so don't let that popping in your feed occasionally push you away, there is always good Corvette stuff to follow. Look forward to covering SEMA and other shows as well, focusing on GM/LS/LT/Corvette, etc. Thanks for the sub! Hope you enjoy the vids ahead, I have some huge stuff planned
Have some track content coming, as well as more products for C5 to add to whats there now. Also doing custom 315 square setup and 3D designed widebody. Lots comin soon. Thanks for watchin!
About to purchase my first C5, a 97 6 speed in Fairway Green. Cannot WAIT. I'm going to go through ALL of your vids. Was looking at a 2001 Z06 but I'm in love with the Fairway Green!
Nothing wrong with that at all. Lots of aftermarket to make these cars exactly what you want them to be handling/power/braking wise. More vids comin very shortly...had a bog COVID delay but we are abput to be rumblin again
I just subscribed to your channel I'm 62 years old and on to C5 Corvettes 03 anniversary edition one notch top and 1 convertible look forward to your channel
Man! I forgot to comment on this video. Nice job. Good pace. Good cut aways. Good information. I have been struggling with the wheel / tire setup for about 2 years. Thank you for your information!
Awesome man...appreciate the feedback. Good vids take work but...I just try to make what I like to see myself. I am elevating the presentation quite a bit here as we speak, for upcoming vids. Have some new equipment to take this channel to whole different level. Thanks for watchin! Big stuff comin!
Great video. I'm a new c5 owner and I love it. Recently done some interior upgrades and I'm hoping I can afford to Square it off someday soon. 98 c5 coupe. Middle tn.
Im running a square 315 setup with the oconnel swaybar and shock kit and love it. Front grip is incredible. Just put in a sparco evo seat, and definitely want a new steering wheel.
Yeah, I definitely wanted to work in a range to avoid any contact, get minimal poke for visual reasons, etc. These cars are great, once you tweak them a little, they're even better. It's why the C5 is still dominating a lot of scca and expedition events..low mass, tons of potential. Thanks for watching and sub'ing...lots more to come! I'll be doing a range of videos, on various car related topics, but Corvette based things will always be recurring. I have more details on the carbon and some others things ahead!
@@hiighcalibre I have a set of REAR C5 Z06 wheels all around that (i have been told) will fit most big brake kits. And I have a set of 18x10.5 tsw nurburgrings that would also fit a brake kit. I'm not sure what the offsets are on these, but I don't run any spacers or anything. Front wheels poke out about an inch, rears don't. For HPDE that shouldn't matter. I don't mind the look, but I wouldn't mind a new set of fenders either...
I also run a supercharger n meth injection 681 hp to rear wheel. Run 10.10 at 140mph. It's really over kill for the street. Also did coil over all 4 corners. Cant wait to see what more u have to show!.. I also used rims off a Cadillac 19 inch all 4s by 9.5 front n 10.5 back
Yeah, C5's dont take much to run with some big time cars. Vid circulating of a bolt on c5z barely losing to a hellcat from a roll. 600whp+ in these cars is pretty ferocious. I have a lot planned ahead.
I've never lost to a hell cat yet, n my car is only at 6lbs of boost. I'm looking to race a Demon n if I cant beat em I will TURN UP THE BOOST!... it wont be hard to push my car into the 9s!
Awesome, thanks! I have some follow up vids coming on this car and some other details as well. Be aware I mix in some off road vids here and there. Thanks for the sub and I have announcements on the carbon part details in a later vid.
Well you have another subscriber. Thank you for the quality video. I myself went with the exact same tire setup sizing wise paired with Apex Wheels, haven't looked back since! feels so much better!
Colby Walters Keep’em peeled because I will discuss and show them in future vids. Working on it today actually (both future vid and carbon I spoke of). More to come soon. Youre gonna like it.
Appreciate it man...lots more coming. Brief slow down of vids due to headlight kit manufacturing and focus but...more coming...3D printed custom widebody, crazy stuff
Had to heart this comment because, all these months later, I have completed the construction and build of a 115mph capable drone to do just that. So, no helicopter necessary. Going to do some big chase scenes this month ahead.
Love it Bro!!! Keep the videos comming! I've had that Nardi Wheel and a NRG 350 deep dish wheel....It's such a game changer with the slight change in circumference and having the wheel closer. I'd recommend that one little upgrade to any "driver" out there. Come a long way with the Vette man....can't wait to see whats to come..
Please sub and keep an eye out for future videos which will go more into detail about the carbon parts I'm designing/making! I have some great videos in the works too! Thanks for the comments and watching!
I've been watching your videos, and love the channel. Keep up the good work. I have a question though, or rather want your opinion. I picked up a C5 Z06 that is in stock form back in march, and have been looking into a new shifter. Alot of people say to go with the MGW, but I have tried a friends and am not a fan of how short the throws are. It's almost too much. I heard that the 2009+ C6 Z06 shifter is a good middle ground, or rather an adequate replacement that reduces the throw a bit, and cleans up the stock shifter problems. If I'm not mistaken, that is the shifter I spotted in your car too. What is your opinion, as you are someone with years and firsthand knowledge, and I value that. Keep making videos, the quality is awesome, and the detail to the information about the cars is great. (Especially the Z, I'm a fan of it if you hadn't noticed) Anyway if you take the time to read this, Thanks.
Bad ass set up man and awesome content. Seen the car on the forums and loved it. About to buy some coilovers and c5z rears for the fronts for my z. Can't wait to see how it handles
I like the square setup I thought about doing that to mine cuz I run a larger back tire already now I know I can thank you black not stop and anniversary red convertible
Yeah, they tend to really grow on ypu when you own one as well. I always liked them but, over time I've just really grown to love the car for what it is and even what it isnt. Just a great, simple, reliable, lightweight, fast car. Thanks for watchin!
At 3:48" you said you almost went with the OEM 18x10-1/2 (rear) wheels but decided on 18x11 @53mm offset. You also said your brakes are c6 z06 calipers. My c5z06 has its' original calipers. Which wheel should I use to square up my ride if I stay with the original calipers? Will I need to adjust camber for rubbing? Thanks very much!
I do like the factory rears at 18x10.5. Couple problems exist, at this point. 1. The oem rears are basically MORE expensive than custom forgestars and they fit worse. Back in the day, had I known rears would work I'd have done it because they were easy to access. They do rub though. The best fitting combo is what I have...there is very little compromise abd very slight poke in front but no rubs, no issues, etc. No square setup is going to fit 100% perfect because if you pull the front in, itll rub and thatll make the back sit in. The only true fitment of square, at a wide width, is 18x11 et53. Brakes really arent the issue here. I just made sure my forgestars cleared my brakes...and the oem z06 rears will also. The custom forgestars, at this point, are cheaper, fit better and are just the beat choice.
I didnt realize I never commented. This is a great video with your explanation and reasoning. I actually just picked up some CCWs in 17x10F and 17x11R with 315s/45/17 square. The only thing I dont like is the poke up front. I am on stock suspension still but have coilovers that are going on soon.
wgnths Thanks for the comment. Much the reason I made the video is because there are a lot of versions of “square” going on, that I was seeing. 315’s is a big no, and the point of square, for me was the ability to rotate tires freely, which 17x10’sF and 17x11’sR dont allow. 17’s on the rear as well, would be interesting. When I worked on putting this setup together I did it to create the best set of compromises possible. The most tire, the ability to rotate, no spacers involved, and no visual poke. Much of my goal was aesthetics...I wanted the car to look proper. I wanted a lot of concavity to my wheels as well, not just in the rear, but in the front also...pure symmetry. If you look at a new ZL1 1LE...it has “poke” in some peoples opinion. Thats how my car pokes...really not at all. I think square is the way to go, but I have seen some peoples square setup with 1.5” of tire sticking out, and that was a big no way for me.. New vid gettin shot today. I will be addressing Savage Geeses review vid. I am also doing another on the full history of modification with my car. All coming ahead.
@@KnightDriveTV thanks for your feedback. I have taken it into consideration and I am selling my tires. The 17 front and rear wheels I will make due but with staggered tires. Might do a 275/35/17 front and a 315/40/17 rear. Not sure just yet.
OH yeah...you're gonna like it too! Doing some carbon work today actually. I am going to give an early release version away on the channel, so keep an eye on future vids for details. I am not saying what it is or showing yet, until I have the molds production ready. I don't want some other carbon guys on the forum to jump the gun on me. I have several things in line for the C5 and C6 base..much needed, believe me. Current offerings for C5 and C6 are lame/non-existent. Thanks for the sub!
@@KnightDriveTV Hmmm...Got me thinking whether they're interior, exterior, or under the hood. Either way, I'm looking forward to what's in store. I'll stay tuned for updates and be on the lookout for future vids. Thanks for adding to the C5 community!
@@Team512 I have ideas for products in all of those areas, but the first will be exterior. The intention to create small, affordable and enhancing products versus large commitment/cost/mold products. The first thing I'm working on has been passed across a few sets of eyes, and I have no doubt it will be well received. The end issue is to be sure of production cost and keep a viable margin but I have a lot of carbon/resin and material to start, that's paid for...so I can take some chances up front. It's a good out of the box offering, for sure. Pretty sure you'll like it!
KnightDriveTV As a business person myself, I certainly appreciate preserving margin, especially on lower cost items. Sounds like you have a solid plan and a good starting inventory of raw material. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will look mighty fine on my black FRC! What’s your current timeline?
@@Team512 Yeah, I've been down these roads before...I have some prototype titanium mufflers in house and some various things I was working on for C6. I inevitably decided that this carbon was the way I wanted to go initially, though I have plans for some other product. In the mid to late 2000's I did a lot of online advertising and sold custom headers/downpipes/intercooler with custom endtanks, etc...I have dabbled in carbon, but always wanted to take it farther. Right now I am refining fit issues on these particular parts, and varying design slightly. The parts have some complexity in shape, so I'm working on reducing any draft angles and things. I'd estimate I'd like to have first parts out of the molds in about a month.
Actually was doing some work on the final mockup/plugs today. Details will come soon for the first of several add ons that arent currently available. The goal is affordable add on mods that slowly create a package appearance. You will see soon but, today had the plugs on my car outside...looks real solid. Workin on a new vid as we speak, details will be coming. Thanks for watching!
Trying sir. Have a lot of things in motion, as we speak. I am happy to add though, there will be another level of visual added, as I've built some new equipment to shoot, in a different way. Lots coming...had a relocation of both my house and shop though...put me off the radar for a minute. I have some things coming.
I'll be doing some other vids on suspension and overall setup (smart strings, scales, etc). Appreciate the comment and you for watching. Just a hobby, trying to make some good content for us Corvette folks.
The system has to tolerate variations in wheel speeds when turning and doing other meneuvering. The system tolerates it but the threshold of intervention seems less immediate, which I am fine with. On the track, the system is very restrictive, even in competitive mode, so some slack is good. I have tracked the car many times this way, and there are no issues.
Thank you my friend, I appreciate it! Looking forward to making some great content ahead...some car stories, some things including the Corvettes, but also a couple a side things for car guys. Hope everyone sticks with me and enjoys the show ahead!
For automatic trans C5 have you heard of anyone putting in a Winters Th400 sidewinder shiftable auto system? I’d like to give it a shot in my C5 but just want more info on that.
I have to acknowledge, that my business past has always been that of road racing. When I was the COO of the track car manufacturer we deal namely with the G50 and Ricardo gearbox's, then later Mendeola. While I built many forced induction systems and big power turbo setups for drag related activities, the transmission and transmission tuning side of that equation, was something I was never involved with. The only company I know that has knowledge of what you're proposing, is RPM transmissions. Sorry I couldn't be of more assist.
KnightDriveTV no you’re fine man. I’m a new sub to your channel love your content so far! And thanks for pointing me in their direction I’ll get in contact with them and question them.
Great video. I LOVE seeing C5 content. My dad left me his (98 C5 convertible with built motor, C6Z06 suspension) and have now had it 10 years. Plan on keeping it forever. I think I am going with your exact set up wheel/tire wise. Two questions, 1. Do you notice much tramlining (wandering) on the road? 2. Do you have the deep or super deep forgeline wheels? Thanks again, Car looks great, WB
Deep series. I have as much caster dialed as I can while hitting my camber targets. Most wandering is from improper rear alignment or too little caster. Naturally a wide grippy front tire is going to seek some grooves in pavement and have some jumping on slow tight turns due to ackerman effect but its just par for the course. The front end of the car feels much more confident, turns in harder and the balance is much more dialed in. The ability to rotate tires and have more front end feel are both huge plus's for the C5.
That was another fantastic movie Mr K.I.T.T. You are very well spoken to a camera. For that i am jealous. Will we ever get to seen any driving content where these kinds of mods will be put to their intended use?
Absolutely! I'm working on some other things in the background so...all in due time. Many things in the works. I'm even currently competing in a racing series online and am ranked 15th in North America and 11th in the US right now. In August, the top 16 go to Tokyo...so...we'll see. I'm holding off talking about it, until I see where it goes. Check out one of my other Corvette vids I have posted from Road America in a Corvette race car...some heel-toe action in there...lol.
You'll love it man...much better steering feel and steering rate, due to the smaller diameter, not to mention bringing the wheel closer. At 6'2, my distance from the wheel, so that my legs werent crunched, left me with straight arms extended at times...this wheel and hub brought everything into a proper driver position.
Great video! I’m out here in Henderson. Had a c5 in 09. Sold it but currently looking for c5 or c6. Love to check out those great car in person. Thanks for the info
I've got a base model C5 and just wrapped up my first track day. Wicked fun! I'd love to know if that wheel combo would fit under the base wheel wells! This would let me upgrade brake diameter as well I imagine, hopefully dropping braking temps for aggressive driving. I see you street your setup which is my goal as well. Bummer you couldn't maintain the airbag.
This wheel/tire combo will fit any c5. The airbag situation is overrated in my opinion. We went 80+yrs driving cars without airbags and in a C5 without one youre still surrounded by a safer car thats crash tested, etc. If you wear your seatbelt, youre far safer, even without the airbag than anyone on a motorcycle, anyone in an early 90s car or prior, plus unless the Corvette is your only car you daily everywhere, the chances of you getting in a wreck with it are less. Fact is, I spent many years as a paramedic and many aged system airbags dont deploy as expected either...so there is no guarantee there. Check out my other videos on the C5, there is much to see.
@@KnightDriveTV cool thanks for the info! I'm thinking just grab another set of rear C5 base model wheels to match what I have already and then just go 285 front and rear with some bigger brake rotors and improved calipers. Hopefully that'll work...
Beasts of a car, 60 in 3.9 to 4 secs is rocket ship quick, even now, germanys best still barely pull those numbers, about a second slower around the ring than BM's finest track car a the M2 and the M2 is a no more than 2 years old, speaks volumes at how much ahead the z06 was, especially the 405hp models as spoke about
I missed this comment. Yes, and bear in mind when the Z06 was run at Nurburgring they did a standing start at the line, versus a flying start like today.
No run under full brake dive, full turn. All I get is a slight touch in the front of.the tire, when I turn very slightly and its a very very light touch. Otherwise, full autocross/track day, brake dive, turn in, etc...no touches.
Funny. I was alway an import guy but never kept cars long. Mitsubishi 4G63 guy. Sold my Evo 8 to buy a house then 3 years later bought a 2002 SS fbody sold that and found a great deal on a 02 C5Z 75k on the clock. Loved it but at first felt I would keep it a year or two. Would say “eh I’ll sell it come spring” spring would come and i would fall in love all over. 6 years now with the car 120k on the clock. Few mods 400whp love this damn car gonna keep it for years to come.
Thanks for the info, very informative. Currently have a CTS-V coupe and doing my homework as I am currently looking to get in a Z06 or better, Gravity seems to be pulling me towards the C5...... So much to learn it's almost like being back in school!
Phil Z I have some other vids coming you may like. Love the 2nd gen cts-v’s. Would love a 4dr/6spd to supplement this Z...lol. I drove the CTs-V’s on track at Monticello when they came out. 165mph in the back straight through a turn in a Cadillac...I remember thinkin...man these are crazy times...lol. My grandfather always owned a Cadillac and I could never have imagined doing 165 into a braking zone with one...lol
@@KnightDriveTV I would be curious to know your thoughts.... Kind of a squeeze vs. Juice thing. Not sure whether to buy super sweet ZO6 and put some money into it or just say to hell with it and buy a ZR1.... I always try to look down the road especially on this high dollar stuff.
Thanks for the sub man! I hope so, I have a lot planned and I enjoy making vids, though my next vid which shouldve been up already, got wiped by a failed hard drive...so, I am on a delay unfortunately. That Deep Corn...I actually had that wheel in my last Honda build in 2009...ITB’s, B18C5 endyn headwork and rollerwaves, 12:1, ITR trans, Volk Te37’s, full suspension and more. Car was 2150lbs and made 263 to the tire, revved to 9500...I kept the wheel and transferred it as a means of going from that live to the next phase.
Link or instagram? I'd like to see this. When I ordered the 14's, in order to clear my C6Z brakes and get ET53, super deeps weren't possible. You must have different offset or smaller brakes? I see your avatar there, but those aren't F14's. Was wantin to check out your stuff.
Yeah c4's have a little more wheel well up front. No fittin 315s up front on C5 without sticking out. I have plans ahead in future vids to make it happen though...carbon widebody one-off build
My next vid was lost due to a hard drive failure, it actually discussed my mod path. This is the next video coming up and will answer those questions, as well as cover the carbon fiber parts underway. I just got delayed due to pc issues.
With the Oconnell swaybars, and with most street/track bars, only the rear bar is adjustable. Reason being, what you do to the rear bar, in many ways, affects the front. In the rear bars, there are 3 hole positions (technically 6 settings as you can step up one hole at a time) and generally rear bars are more accessible at the track, for quick changes, versus the front. Changes should be made with the car resting on it's suspension (no preloaded twist)...so it's tight to get in there. The general rule of sway bar tuning is to soften the end that needs additional traction - it is also equally as effective to stiffen the end that needs less traction...so tuning a rear bar only works fine, as long as the bar stiffness/diameter is within a proper range, to begin with. Find a big diameter circle, slowly increase speed and find what "axle" breaks away first, then tune the rear bar to make it neutral (drift/slide all four at same time). Currently I run middle setting in the rear and the car is "loose", due to the increased front grip by the square setup.
Bumpers are risky business because huge development cost, expensive product, people complain about non exact fitment despite mounting it to a 20yr old car thats flexed and moved around, etc. I have been down that road before...lol. Most of the oarts develooed are aimed at being affordable, fashionable add ons and pieces that are very in line what you see with other platforms. Shame that my process to release these oarts is going on yr, but I ran into partner issues and now the covid bs. Aiming at late summer release on two different products that people are going to buy like a toilet paper sale on March 25th, 2020. Youll see!
Great Setup, Great Video!, I just bought a 2004 C5, Base model would this setup work with this model ? are you running coil-overs also would the base model have the room for that wide stance up front? I will be watching all that you have to show. My corvette is an old roller but I plan to bring her back with new tech and great planning Thanks again I'm glad I found your site , I'm 68 years young and with this project car I hope to drive her at a little thing we call cruising the coast here in Biloxi Mississippi, each year Your car would great with the background of the gulf behind it come on down great food great people lots to do, around 10,000 cars were here last year. It's worth the trip google it. Again Thanks and have a Blessed day.
Base and z06 are same in that respect...control arms, width, etc all same so yes, the setup will work fine. I have another video about the full mod list and timeline on my car explaining all my components and setup
Love the wheels and want to put them on my z06 also. Are they the deep or super deep? Just want to make su before I pull the trigger and yes i know you say "deep" but just want to double check if possible
Deep series et53 18x11 f14's in piano black on 295/35/18 michelin pss's. Shpulder of the tire curves in just right, 2.2degrees of camber front, it works. Some custom parts for c5 and c6 comin shortly, dont miss upcoming vids. Giveaways happenin
@@KnightDriveTV Thanks for the reply! Just a lot of money to be spending without being 100% until hearing. I did read down further and saw you answered the same question. Thanks for the time and love the channel
New to the channel and I am in the market for a C5Z. I've owned a C4 but I am not all that familiar with the C5's. The C5A I am looking now is running Forgestar S18's 19x10.5 squared. He has 275/30/19's up front and 305/30/19's in the rear. It was also lowered on stock bolts. One of the first things I noticed was the negative camber on the fronts. Not horrible but visually noticeable. My first thought is, it will need to be raised a little and alignment to remove the negative camber. So my question is, are there any issues rubbing on 10.5? You mentioned you ran 11's but they were 18's and you had specific offset. Is there anything I need to be looking for suspension wise? I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks
There is a lot.to your question but I will try to break down quick. I will say, the wheel setup for that car is a bit odd. Running a square setup on wheel, but non square on tire, makes no sense. The point of the square setup is to allow free rotation for wear, but also to put equal rubber on front and back, to balance out handling and gain front end confidence. The issue people run into, is they get a 10.5 wide front at an offset that makes them stick out, then they camber inward to return some appearance. In my case, I did the square setup, with 18x11 and et53 offset specifically (width and offset work hand in hand to create a specific fit and location in the wheel well) and I run aggressive camber because thats what the track requires and the tire requires to get heat evenly across the tread pattern, on track. In your case, if just casual driving is concerned, then raising and reducing camber will make you want to change those front wheels. 10.5's are unnecessary for a 275 tire and 10.5's require enough offset which will make them sit outward. Youd want a 10" or even a 9.5" wide wheel, like the factory z06 front wheel, at 9.5 width and 54 offset. Once you had more factory camber settings, the fitment would good. In the end though, I'd suspect those wheels you have are 19x10.5 at a 54 offset, which is the spec of the c5 z06 rear wheels, on in a one inch larger diameter rear and 2 inch diameter larger front wheel. Its an odd choice imo. I'd budget changing the wheel/tire setup for where you want to go and what you want to do
@@KnightDriveTV Yeah sounds exactly what they did on the fronts. I noticed a little poke on the sides when looking down it which is where the camber is also present. They should have gotten a wheel that had less of an offset on the front from the sounds of it. Thank you., this provides a tremendous amount of help just trying to understand what someone did and what I am looking at.
Do you know if the stock rear c5 wheels clear the front 6 piston calipers? I can’t find the answer anywhere and I wanna pull the trigger on the c6 z06 brakes and get the c5 thin 5 spoke rear wheels for the front
I have an 2002 Electron Blue Z06 with stock wheel package. I absolutely love your square set up Forgestar F14 wheels and tires. I have a couple of questions. In the video you mention the DEEP set up...they are not the SUPER DEEP correct? also do the wheels stick out beyond the stock fender and do you get any rubbing?
Deep series, they do not rub. Sometimes they touch this little plastic edge near the bumper, itll squeak. It barely touches. This offset, tire width configuration is optimal. Minimal poke up front and the tire shoulder rolls toward the fender as the tire isnt any wider. 315’s will look horrible vs this. If youre dead straight with the wheel and looking dead straight at the car it pokes out in front, but once you even barely turn the wheel or look at the car off angle, it looks flush. I wouldnt rock ugly shit. I built cars for sema, there is a tiny compromise here, but for the grip, the ability to rotate tires, the dish up front. Its far far better than sunken fronts, push and inability to rotate. I run 2 degrees neg camber up front on the street. If you dialed in track camber it wouldnt poke at all whatsoever
I Ike that you started with handling; running the same at 4 corners for rotation and sway bars. Never though about the steering wheel diameter. Going to look to for more vids to see if you have more C5 mods. Thanks
Brad Carss This car has been through some evolution. There was a time I built it to match the demographic of my customers and what they liked, but have since evolved it into what I like. I am putting together a video of the phases the car has been through, with video and dyno, etc. Lots of work just been busy. I like the channel as a hobby though, so...look for more soon
Thanks for this video! Question: did you have to make any ride height adjustments after the change? It seems like the car in stock form has a pretty even ride height from front to rear even though the rear tires are about 1" taller than the fronts. With adding a tire diameter that is essentially 1" higher, wouldn't that add an additional inch to the front of the car vs rear and throw the weight balance/loading off a bit?
The c5 has a factory rake requirement front to rear, so that the aero balance of the car is correct. The square setup is fine if you keep that rake in mind when doing your ride height setup and corner balancing. When that's the case, the weight balance front to rear is fine. In the end though cross weight is more important than the front to rear weight bias by 1% etc. Cant think of static weights so critically, as when the car is under acceleration and/or braking, that weight bias is flying all over the place. Cross weights are more critical, while keeping the nose low under squat (rake requirement) keeps the front planted as good as possible.
@@KnightDriveTV thanks for the info! So, effectively, you should not just slap a square setup on the car without some sort of ride height adjustment to keep the rake and corner balancing in check.
I love my c5 I have 799 heads port & polished a 614 lift comp cam 3000 stall converter & dynatech headers & vararam cold air intake my next upgrade will be the steering wheel what kind is that you have ?
Mark Crisp The wheel I have is a Nardi Dosh Deep Corn steering wheel with an NrG slim hub and quick release. I have a video on the wheel and quick release install, as well as a parts list/cost/install in the vid description...check it out. Lots more vids coming, carious things. Sounds like you’re well on your way with your Corvette as well. Good times!!
Did you consider the C5Z to C6 steering wheel conversion? You could keep that airbag and also...it's a Cobalt steering wheel part that you can modify/wrap to fit better.
I gave it a tremendous amount of consideration, believe me. The issue I had was 1. I wanted a much smaller diameter (though I even saw a company on the forum reducing the ring size further on C6 wheels), but MORE importantly 2. I wanted the wheel "dished" or projecting closer to my seating position. I went as far as to consider TIG welding/modifying the C6 steering wheel frame, and it's something I still may do in the future. In the immediate sense though, this Nardi has been with me over 10yrs, and actually was in one of the most built Honda's (dating back to my import shop days) I'd ever had. I then online raced with it for a number of years. It's got some value to me, that it found itself in my Z06.
@@KnightDriveTV That's a great story to the wheel. I did end up getting a Cobalt wheel for $30 with an airbag. I sent it out to be redone and resized with a flat bottom as well. Conversion wasn't horrible but the wheel with now a Corvette logo covering the airbag is nice to know I have and makes the car look +8 years newer with the seats and shifter I have. I hope you can create some kind of non-junk center console with no cupholder or an actually usable one. Really it and the dash handlebar are the only things I don't like and can't change.
Have you had any traction control/active handling issues? Obviously with the wheel speed split not being what the factory originally programmed the car to look for. I have owned my 02 C5Z since new and always had trouble codes when I tried running a larger wheel tire in the front without increasing the rears to match the split.
I have had no issues at all. Wheel speed variations occur when doing any turning as is. Each tire follows a different arc, therefore turns at very different speeds. I believe any issues people have had is likely linked to other issues in the ah system, like a slight misalignment or other issue. I have zero problems with active handling.
Subbed. Looking at the JOC bars and shock stage 1 kit. Did you get that or just the bars? Do you have coilovers or just stock shocks? Thanks and keep up the great vids!!
smokinC5 I am doing an upcoming vid on the full history of modifications I have had, as well as removed from this car. I have the JOC bars and pfadt featherlight coilovers (now sold as AFe pfadt series coilovers.
what do you run for brakes? mine feel initially slow to bite which I like but get into em more and I want a bit more. have been thininking wildwood rotors with hawk hp pads or just fresh oem rotor with hawk hp pads.
I have c6 z06 brakes on the car now, royal purple high temp fluid and the oem c6z pads. I had a slotted rotor and hawk pads on before (prior owner mods) and they were adequate but the c6z setup was a huge leap forward in initial bite. There is a big upgrade in simply flushing and bleeding the system, then installing and properly bedding a good set of pads on fresh oem rotors.
Great informative video! I'm picking up a higher mileage C5 Z06 in the upcoming months that has stock shocks on it. I'm planning a square setup and the Johnny O'Connell bars as well. What would be a good shock to best compliment these bars?
Well, AFE does have an oconnell shock as well. Personally, I am on the Pfadt Featherlights and overall I think its a good package, though if I could change anything I think the setup has a tad too much spring rate. I think the Z06 spring rates with a good damper, square setup for front end grip, and then tune the balance with the rear bar, has to be a solid combo. C6 Z06 shocks are a great budget option that have a pretty appealing dampening curve and are a great budget option.
@@KnightDriveTV that's good info. I was hoping the c6z shocks were as good as folks claim, they sound to be a performance bargain. The car I'm going to be working on is stock height c5z, how much lowering can you get away with and retain proper geometry? I prefer slammed but I want functionality over looks.
It appears abput 15mm of lowering retains geometry, but beyond that you have to compensate with some other measures. Bump steer correction kits for these cars from baer or moog, both act to restore geometry, but also reduce compliane and enhance feel. I have higher spring rates on mine, so my car tolerates a bit lower than stock, but I am not what one would call "slammed". I consider my car to simply be stanced like a factory Porsche performance model would be, etc.
One other question. Since all the video was with the wheels turned, how much do the front wheels protrude past the fender when straight, and is there any rubbing issues on the inner fender? Could you send me a photo. And I second your tire choice. I run the Michelin PS2!
Itz the best compromise youll get from the square setup. The poke in front is minimal if dead straight, facing your eye down the fender. If you fixate on the poke youll see it. The key to managing the fit is in the details...its the tire size specifically, its the camber and ride height, etc. I have pics of thw car on my instagram and youll see from any angle, other than staring right straight down over the fender, it looks dead flush. I told one guy, if all you do is take pics of your girlfriend with the camera facing up her nose from the bottom, she aint gonna look too good. I dont know who looks straight down the fender like some of these people take pictures. Believe me, I'm picky as hell...if it looked bad, I wouldnt keep it. Fact is, the front end grip, zero rubs, ability to rotate any rim/tire to any corner for wear...its worth it.
@@KnightDriveTV I hear you. I like the benefits you mention from the square setup. Which is why I’m asking so many questions. Wish I could just sit down and talk. While looks are important, it is more important to me to keep debris off the side of the car to the extent that’s reasonable hence keeping the tires under the fender. My Jeep has massive tires that hang out past the fenders but that has a functional purpose when off-roading, and I compromise having dirt slung all over my Jeep. You mention the “drift scene” the back of my mind I wonder if you prefer more front end grip than I might as I’m not really a “drift” style driver. But rather neutral canyon carving! LOL My Z does understeer and I would like a little more front grip but the back end can be coxed out if throttle is applied at the right time. I think most sports cars that the “average joe” would own are engineered that way to keep non-drivers from losing the back end too quick.

Hey can you respond with the backspacing on the wheels?
Subscribed. Sold my ‘02 Z06 and I’m looking to get back into one here shortly. Glad I found your channel. And thank you for paving the way for more aftermarket parts for the C5 Z06.
Ohhh they are comin...the cvd19 slowed me up but we are getting back on track!
KnightDriveTV Glad to hear! Stay safe out there!
welcome to the C5 community, looking forward to excellent content.
1999 C5 Corvette owner. New subber. Looking for a lot of good content on the C5. Awesome video.
Awesome! C5z through C7Z guy here. Wish I saw this back in '19 when you posted. Keywords "Z06 track test"
Have some track content coming, as well as more products for C5 to add to whats there now. Also doing custom 315 square setup and 3D designed widebody. Lots comin soon. Thanks for watchin!
Love your channel and all your content. Re-watching while the wife orders the headlights. I need that c5 max/din hvac control.
Big things coming shortly for Corvettes, thanks for watching! Lots just around the corner
Here's an idea throw at you have retractable top for a convertible I have a hard top on it I think it could be mad
Big stuff comin!
glad i found the channel man. currently saving up for an 04
Will be worth it man! Lots of vids comin...C5 stuff and C6...keep an eye out, I'll keep ya inspired!
Great video. I'm a new c5 owner and I love it. Recently done some interior upgrades and I'm hoping I can afford to Square it off someday soon. 98 c5 coupe. Middle tn.
Good stuff. Square setup is very nimble making the front wnd very confident. Its one of the best things I have done for the car
Nice, what wheel + size/offset did you use? Planning out a summer/HPDE set and I want square + BBK clearance if I ever get there.
Don’t know why I hadn’t found this channel before. Great video
New one comin this week. Took a wee break for a minute.
Lovely setup! Gotta do this!
I've too been debating on a square setup, she looks good man! Subbed!
Awesome, thanks! I have some follow up vids coming on this car and some other details as well. Be aware I mix in some off road vids here and there. Thanks for the sub and I have announcements on the carbon part details in a later vid.
Great video, valuable info on offset and wheels. Thanks
So happy I found this channel
More on the way shortly, plus some big time SEMA coverage ahead this coming week! Thanks for watching
Well you have another subscriber. Thank you for the quality video. I myself went with the exact same tire setup sizing wise paired with Apex Wheels, haven't looked back since! feels so much better!
Nice, I appreciate that. Lots ahead for C5 and other gen Corvettes also. Keep an eye out!
I just bought an 04, Z06. It’s perfection. Very happy with the performance and simplicity of this vehicle. Yours is amazing 👍🏼
Thanks man. These are fantastic cars for sure. Potent package with a ton of mod potential. Some new content coming as well, from this channel.
KnightDriveTV looking forward to it! Your doing some very tasteful upgrades to it
I would definitely be interested in coming across some of these parts. 👀 I’m subscribed and my eyes are peeled.
Colby Walters Keep’em peeled because I will discuss and show them in future vids. Working on it today actually (both future vid and carbon I spoke of). More to come soon. Youre gonna like it.
Just found your channel and it is excellent!
Appreciate it man...lots more coming. Brief slow down of vids due to headlight kit manufacturing and focus but...more coming...3D printed custom widebody, crazy stuff
Great Info Great Presentation!
Thank ya!
Awesome shots at 5:40 !!!
Heather Lacey Rae agreed. Should have rented a helicopter to trail the z06 as the z06 was flying to get the footage.
Had to heart this comment because, all these months later, I have completed the construction and build of a 115mph capable drone to do just that. So, no helicopter necessary. Going to do some big chase scenes this month ahead.
Looks good ..i have a o1 zo6 and i jus cant get enough of it ...thanks for the vid ..
Great info, Awesome video 🔥🔥
Appreciate it
Love it Bro!!!
Thanks for the videos. You’re one of the contributing factors that made me purchase a C5 (you’re vidéos and money lol)
Best bang for the dollar
Good stuff. You made the right choice!
Love the car. If I buy one I'll definitely get the square setup
New vid coming up
Bad ass set up man and awesome content. Seen the car on the forums and loved it. About to buy some coilovers and c5z rears for the fronts for my z. Can't wait to see how it handles
Appreciate it man. I am working on some new stuff to add to this content in a big way. Lots ahead. Thanks
You, sir, are an inspiration. 🙌
Well, thanks....I suppose I try to be inspiring at times...lol
Very nice!
I like the square setup I thought about doing that to mine cuz I run a larger back tire already now I know I can thank you black not stop and anniversary red convertible
Nice ride!! Love C-5 Z's
@@KnightDriveTV THANKS VERY MUCH for the quick details!!
Subbed - your car setup is great! Will you be going to LS Fest West this year with the car?
Cant say its on my list at the moment. Depends on if I can get the carbon widebody done but that wont likely be until later in summer/fall
Thanks for the video very nice 😊
Subbed! Came over from Corvette Forum. Nice vid. Looking forward to seeming some carbon parts for my '99 FRC.
Awesome videos my friend!!
Thanknyou. More great stuff to come soon. Covid situation and things busted up my production plans but...gettin rollin again
Interested in what you will bring to the lack of C5 mods! Black c5z here as well! Great video. Good content.
Please keep uploading c5z vids
Trying sir. Have a lot of things in motion, as we speak. I am happy to add though, there will be another level of visual added, as I've built some new equipment to shoot, in a different way. Lots coming...had a relocation of both my house and shop though...put me off the radar for a minute. I have some things coming.
Thanks for the video. I'm looking to go square on my C5 for the track and also have the JOC sway bars. Good stuff!
I'll be doing some other vids on suspension and overall setup (smart strings, scales, etc). Appreciate the comment and you for watching. Just a hobby, trying to make some good content for us Corvette folks.
I just traded a Raptor for a Cayman S. Now, watching your channel, I want to get into the C5 game too.
Its a solid game man...car is serious bang for the buck. My next vid will discuss it, in full. Thanks for watching!
Just got a millennium yellow Z06! Last night.....
Congrats man...love the yellow cars!
@@KnightDriveTV thanks... I’m stoked.
Any thoughts on what equal tire diameters front and rear do to the abs related systems on the car?
The system has to tolerate variations in wheel speeds when turning and doing other meneuvering. The system tolerates it but the threshold of intervention seems less immediate, which I am fine with. On the track, the system is very restrictive, even in competitive mode, so some slack is good. I have tracked the car many times this way, and there are no issues.
Keep up the great work 👍
Thank you my friend, I appreciate it!
Nice C5!
Cookie Monster Thanks my friend! I am takin it to the next level again soon. Gonna do some one-off level stuff. Keep an eye out!
Great quality content!
Nice
Awsum whipp. Good job. Were do the rear fenders come from. Thx man.
I had the L5 wide rears when it was white, but the car is stock body now
Great video. I LOVE seeing C5 content. My dad left me his (98 C5 convertible with built motor, C6Z06 suspension) and have now had it 10 years. Plan on keeping it forever. I think I am going with your exact set up wheel/tire wise. Two questions,
1. Do you notice much tramlining (wandering) on the road?
2. Do you have the deep or super deep forgeline wheels?
Thanks again, Car looks great,
WB
Interesting idea on the wheels. Would love to see a little bit more information on that.
You’re my inspiration!!! I want that wheel set up. I have a 02 c5 z06 blsck !
@@KnightDriveTV How much fronts poke out?
Video was very nice!
Great video! I’m out here in Henderson. Had a c5 in 09. Sold it but currently looking for c5 or c6. Love to check out those great car in person. Thanks for the info
Nice vid!
Buying my first C5 today so it will be interesting to follow your channel and the carbon fiber parts/ mike way up north in Sweden 🇸🇪
For sure, thanks for watching! I have a bunch of parts/products planned
Nice C5, mine will be getting fresh paint in December 👍.
Doin a color change here next month myself...out in my parkin lot...lol. vid comin...
great vid! Thorough explanation
Thank you, appreciate it!
Subbed, and getting a C5 Z, because you said so.
Now that's the way to do it! You won't regret it...great car.
Do you have a part number at all for the sway bars?
Beasts of a car, 60 in 3.9 to 4 secs is rocket ship quick, even now, germanys best still barely pull those numbers, about a second slower around the ring than BM's finest track car a the M2 and the M2 is a no more than 2 years old, speaks volumes at how much ahead the z06 was, especially the 405hp models as spoke about
I missed this comment. Yes, and bear in mind when the Z06 was run at Nurburgring they did a standing start at the line, versus a flying start like today.
@@KnightDriveTV didnt know bout standing start n flying start, thinkin M4 quick then from a flying start maybe?
Any tire rub on the liner or body at full lock on a left or right turn?
Brent For sure man...somehow this car just kept its place with me. Shooting and releasing some new vids tonight and later this week!

Subscriber 302. Nice channel my dude, I bet you grow quite nicely. By the way I have the Nardi Deep Corn 350mm in my NA8 Miata. Excellent choice!
Looks really nice I have the same wheel setup 18 all around with the f14 but mine are silver super deep dish 🔥
Link or instagram? I'd like to see this. When I ordered the 14's, in order to clear my C6Z brakes and get ET53, super deeps weren't possible. You must have different offset or smaller brakes? I see your avatar there, but those aren't F14's. Was wantin to check out your stuff.
Hi,I hope for some basic tips on how to find this car, year model etc..thanks
I run 315 in every corner on my 96 LT4. Great grip.
Yeah c4's have a little more wheel well up front. No fittin 315s up front on C5 without sticking out. I have plans ahead in future vids to make it happen though...carbon widebody one-off build
Just curious why'd you get rid of the flares?
My next vid was lost due to a hard drive failure, it actually discussed my mod path. This is the next video coming up and will answer those questions, as well as cover the carbon fiber parts underway. I just got delayed due to pc issues.
Just want to know what setting for the front sway bar?
KnightDriveTV Thanks for the info
Cant find a carbon fiber front bumper, nor the cover for the convertible section and trunk lid....
My corvette is an old roller but I plan to bring her back with new tech and great planning
Thanks again I'm glad I found your site , I'm 68 years young and with this project car I hope to drive her at a little thing we call cruising the coast here in Biloxi
Mississippi, each year Your car would great with the background of the gulf behind it come on down great food great people lots to do, around 10,000 cars were here
last year. It's worth the trip google it. Again Thanks and have a Blessed day.
Base and z06 are same in that respect...control arms, width, etc all same so yes, the setup will work fine. I have another video about the full mod list and timeline on my car explaining all my components and setup
Subscribed! Looking forward to seeing your carbon parts!
Had a slight delay here, due to a relocation, but a vid update is coming soon
More ahead shortly here...sleepy eye headlight mod and a potential kit coming. Also the widebody build is happening!
Could you please list the backspacing on your wheels
+53 offset
I'd budget changing the wheel/tire setup for where you want to go and what you want to do
@@KnightDriveTV First, thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated.
What camber are you running in the car I got the same size wheels but can’t get it to clear.
I'll have to consider this for my next tire setup, I inherited my C5Z car with 315s and 335s. Those wheels are 🔥🔥, and so is the girl with the tats. 😂
@@KnightDriveTV Thank You very Much!!!
What caliper and rotor set up is that? Looks so nice and clean. Love it!
C6Z06 full brake setup custom powdercoated
So what is the offset on the wheels in millimeters ?
+53
I love my c5 I have 799 heads port & polished a 614 lift comp cam 3000 stall converter & dynatech headers & vararam cold air intake my next upgrade will be the steering wheel what kind is that you have ?
Mark Crisp The wheel I have is a Nardi Dosh Deep Corn steering wheel with an NrG slim hub and quick release. I have a video on the wheel and quick release install, as well as a parts list/cost/install in the vid description...check it out. Lots more vids coming, carious things. Sounds like you’re well on your way with your Corvette as well. Good times!!
KnightDriveTV ok thank you I will look at it
Did you find the vararam works? Its more at moving mph it kicks in ive heard?
Do you have info on who can do the conversion?
Have you had any traction control/active handling issues? Obviously with the wheel speed split not being what the factory originally programmed the car to look for. I have owned my 02 C5Z since new and always had trouble codes when I tried running a larger wheel tire in the front without increasing the rears to match the split.
I have had no issues at all. Wheel speed variations occur when doing any turning as is. Each tire follows a different arc, therefore turns at very different speeds. I believe any issues people have had is likely linked to other issues in the ah system, like a slight misalignment or other issue. I have zero problems with active handling.
Just curious if the Z06 has different wheel Wells than the base, i like this idea but wheel retailers are trying to sell me 9.5”wides
The wheel wells are the same
@@KnightDriveTV thank you, I have flushed the fluid, sitting at 113k miles either shit pads /rotors or rebuild calipers?
Giving the fact of a fact with the fact as fact as possible fact😂 how many facts on a single video
I never caught that...lol...lots of facts I guess..haha. watch my new headlight vid for new facts
Are you out of Phoenix???? I am
Las Vegas
How much camber are you running front and rear?
I run right at 2 front and 1.5 rear for my last autocross setup
