This was a soldier's truce, done with courage by those who shared the frozen mud and snow covered trenches surrounded by dead comrades and longing to be home for the Holidays. Many were punished and few that were involved survived the war that went on for another 4 years with no more truces (the Generals made sure of that). A song of Remembrance as well for all those lost to war and to those who celebrate the Holidays with their memories only to comfort them. Lest we forget but more importantly, as a combat vet your humanity is the hardest thing to hold onto and here these men deserve to be remembered for the courage it took to have their humanity rise above the insanity around them even though it was only for a short time. Floor singing the outro is the Valkyrie Goddess collecting the souls of the fallen to bring them home to rest, a chilling sound for anyone who has lost someone to war. Happy Holidays to all and a call for all of us to try and do better, it is the least we owe those that gave their all.
Merry Christmas, the guy that gets blown up and the 1st to leave the trench is there drummer Hannes Van Dahl floor Jansen's husband , and the ending over the credits is the amazing Floor
@@MikeandGinger sabaton just released a new song called the unkillable soilder idk if i spelled it right if not sorry but watch the offel video im bad at spelling
A very powerful song. Who better to do this than Sabaton. The addition of Floor Jansen singing at the end made this very special. She is not on the studio version unfortunately. Merry Christmas guys 🎄⛄🎄⛄
I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).
Mom's favorite holiday was Christmas I sent her this song and we decided it would be the theme for this year's family get together 2 days later on Halloween she was gone This has been the only Christmas song I've been able to listen to and I can relate to not being in the Christmas spirit this year
I think Carols of the Bells was made during the time WW1 was going on, so it fits well. Christmas Truce is a beautiful song and got great lyrics. Floor Jansen in the outro is amazing. I am looking forward to the next song coming out early next year. It's called Soldier of Heaven.
The music of Carol of the Bells is originally a Ukrainian folksong from the 19th century. But an Ukrainian composer "officialized" and arranged it formally in 1914, and the English lyrics came shortly after.
Haha! First! Just saying, this song is the most powerful I've ever heard in 2021 -- for obvious reasons. Not only that, but Carol of the Bells is my favorite Christmas song. But as for the history, there was a German commander who ended up moving his troops to another section of the line, after his men refused to fire on the men on the other side they had made friends with the day before. Additionally, the cross in the video exists, being erected near Ypres, Belgium, as a memorial. Merry Christmas, Mike and Ginger! Here's to hoping you guys stay safe, are well, and to looking towards 2022! Cheers from an American neighbor! Edit: And in case you're wondering, the operatic aria you heard at the end was, in fact, Floor Jansen -- who is married to Hannes Van Dahl, Sabaton's drummer, and the blond-haired man who had the hat in his hand, as he emerged from the trench in the video.
Greatest Christmas song in decades. It's a really important message that our humanity is more important than our differences. I'm sure that somebody mentioned it, Floor Jansen who sand the outro, is married to Hannes, the first soldier to leave the trenches. Great reaction!
I like her Christmas sweater :) It always warms my heart when people are a little goofy and don't take themselves too serious. Greetings and merry christmas from Sweden!
That group of germans refused to kill there newfound friends the next day. So they had to remove that group and relocate them. After that they let everybody know that whatever holiday would come stopping war was no possibillity anymore. And I don't know if you recognized that beautiful voice in the credits. It is Floor Jansen.
Really enjoy your reactions throughout the year! I have seen Christmas Truce over 100 times with tears rolling down this old metal/rock heads cheeks every time I don’t like the commercial sappy Christmas songs that are over played constantly over the holiday season. This one I will play traditionally forever over Christmas, Lest We Forget! May you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! 🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
About the "christmas truce" ... that story is bigger then most would know about. The truce occured on many sections of the trench-lines ... and in some sections that truce lastet for at least 1 week into the new year. But i think Sabaton really did a good job with portraiting this story very well.
Such an emotional story and perfectly portrayed by the boys from Sabaton. I have watched this umpteen times and still can't get through it without a dry eye. We'll done Sabaton for capturing the emotion, intensity of a brutal conflict and also the humanity of a beautiful moment. Merry Christmas to both of you and family.
Merry Xmas you two. Thank you for reacting to this song which is my #1 of 2021… bittersweet and heart-wrenching. Enjoy your wonderful surroundings and your new-found freedoms. Wishing you a prosperous and adventurous 2022. Ontario misses you.
Carol Of The Bells is my favorite Christmas song too. Also one of my favorite melodies. The original was actually written in 1916. It’s a Ukrainian folk song having to do with good tidings for the New Year. I believe that the song the two sides started singing from the trenches was Silent Night.
This video gets me every time I watch it (which has been many, many times till now). This truce was probably the most honest and sincere Christmas: A short moment of humanity in an inhuman surrounding. But then, when the fighting continues the next day, it shows the cruelty and madness of mankind in the most obvious way. It's sch a sad moment. And if I am not at least close to tearing up, Floor will give me the rest with her incredible voice at the end.
The Sabaton History YT channel uploaded a video this morning going more in-depth with the story, if you're interested. I'm a classicist so 20th century world history couldn't be farther outside of my history nerd wheelhouse, and I never knew about this story until Sabaton released this song.
Floor Jansen singing at the end ? will be make sense , the drummer of Sabaton is her husband ( the guy who gets injured with the grenade in the beginning on the video ) WHOA ! ❤
Great Reaction, for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot
Xmas greetings from Australia. Now you know what our Christmas is like down under, I think Xmas day supposed to be 27C, here in my neck of the woods. Anyhow this is such a great song, love it. Such a great group. What a brilliant concept to write music about historical events. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺 PS - Don’t know if you realised that it was Floor Jansen singing over end credits. The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting. The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad. Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.
I know it’s a little late in the season but Carol Of The Bells (Official Video) by Lindsey Stirling is one the best I’ve seen. She actually dances and plays live just as well as in the video.
