after the truce the soldiers stopped fighting even in the following days. It was hard to kill someone who drank and sang with you. They were all reassigned to other areas, and another truce was prohibited (court martial for it)

En livstid i krig, live Gothenburg, with CC!! No bullets fly, animated story, watch the whole film! Night witches, animated story, and the live version from Germany. Carolus rex, live at Stockholm and the english version. Karolinens bön. Resist and bite, live Belgium
In ww1 first Christmas the soldiers left their Trenches and met in no mans land and shared alcohol, tobavo and even played Football. Vjrvl pit their song called Bismark.
Great reaction guys! Alot of people have already given you suggestions but I'll add my favorites too ;) Bismarck, En livstid i Krig (Gothenburg 2020 turn on captions) Carolus Rex, No bullets fly, Livgardet and The winged hussars.
So, Every song that Sabaton makes are based off of Real, Authentic historical events, so whenever you listen to a song by Sabaton you get a historylesson for free.
Tip for ya. Sabaton - En livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live version. It is sung in Swedish but there are English subtitles. You will not regret it.
One of my favorite favorites songs by them is call no bullets fly, its an animated video and when the song starts its just a beautiful imagery and story. Oh yeah they have a history Channel. they're Swedish. Oh and all there songs are some form of a war story.
That was Floor singing in the ending credits that you cut off. Now the Nightwish fans are going to have at you. Next should be "Bismarck" or "The Night Witches (Animated Story Video)".
Imagine to be the first one to step into no mans land unarmed with a hundred rifles pointing at you, you have to be 50% mad and 100% giant balls of steel. And no one shot. So inspiring.
Wow. You guys have never heard of Sabaton!? I have 5 recommendations for you! 1) Defense of Moscow 2) Night Witches (Animated Story Video) feat. Cheers from an American listener, from across the pond! Edit: Just to let you know, after this happened in 1914, there was a German commander who ended up shifting his unit to another section of the lines, because his men refused to shoot at the men they had made friends with the day before. "Lest We Forget" ~ Memorial Cross near Ypres, Belgium
it was the germans who started to sing Stille nach ( Holy night) and soon the brits and french sang too and on german climbed upp and started to walk over no man land and soon the met the germans brought beer ghe brist whisky and gthe french wine, and someone started to kick a ball och so in began, humanity in hell, the next day whole companys refused to fire on each other and was transferred to other front lines. pure magic
It happened in WW1. The next year they forbid to stop fighting with christmas because the day after the first stop they refused to shoot their new found friends and had to be replaced to another spot. TIP please listen to the whole video next time because you cut of the beautiful voice of Floor Jansen at the end.
@@rogerhouben9230 yes indeed but imagen you and your small company decide to stop because its christmas you eat drink talk and play some football together with "your enemy" and then hours later you have to shoot them again. Almost impossible I think
@@Monique-bx6ro fun things is - most soldiers refused to fight their new friends and went back to "cool off" their insurbordination or moved to another part of the front.
Not only is it true, the Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of those stories that restores faith in Humanity. By Christmas 1914, the First World War had been waging for 5 months and had entered the long stalemate that would define the Western Front. For the men in the trenches, they were generations separated from conflict (the last major conflict on the European Continent was the Crimean War and the Napoleonic Wars were roughly a century before WWI) and this was their first Christmas away from family. Then one night, along the Western Front, multiple unofficial truces occurred. The popular story is that the British could hear the Germans singing Stille Nacht, or Silent Night, and then started singing along in English. From there, men got out of the trenches, went into No Man's Land, and celebrate Christmas together. It was a miracle.
My first Sabaton song I ever listen to when a friend introduced me to Primo Victoria and today I still listen to it. Sabaton Songs give you a full load of emotions and songs that sometimes you might relate to. Personal favorites are Hearts of Iron, Resist and Bite, Christmas Truce, Bismarck, Wolfpack, And the Great War Albums. . .They are truly something else that the world needs to hear the most.
Im glad you knew this story of this. I’m 51 years old and I think it’s a sad state of affairs that a lot of people don’t know about this and many historical facts anymore. In the same way people who are native English speakers can’t pronounce and recognise words like Pisces or Perennial (song titles by Jinjer). Maybe I’m just turning into a bitter old man but I’m not criticising people but the education systems around the world. Sabaton are a phenomenal band (but please watch theirs and all videos the end as so will sometimes miss things that is important to the artist to portray in their art). Also loved you doing the Jinjer backstory video🤘🤘🤘. Love, Peace and Harmony 🙏🙏🙏
Very good reaction to a great song and to a great band. And you have actually open a large floodgate of great songs. To be fair it hard to pick songs from Sabaton they all good in my opinion. But I have my favorites and those are Bismarck, Red Baron, No Bullets Fly, Night Witches and En Livstid i krig both in English and Swedish. When it comes to the songs No Bullets Fly and Nigth Witchers there are animated story video also there are a animated story video for Chistmas Truce song to. And those videos is made by Yarnhub. Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band or some say warmetal band. So we all welcome you two in to the Sabaton family! Also a tip Sabaton History are their second channel of the war history and story behind the songs they make. Have a good day and take care of each other!
It all started with a world-wide message from the pope, urging for peace on Christmas. Many of the trenches refused a truce since they felt that the enemy simply couldn't be trusted. Many soldiers who tried to exit their trenches with peaceful intentions were instantly gunned down becasue of paranoia. However, on a brighter note, many trenches actually didn't start fighting again until well after the new year had begun. With this trench in particular (that the song is based on), it all started with the british soldiers singing "Silent Night", knowing that the germans would recognize it as a german christmas carol (written by two austrians). The germans responded by singing british christmas carols in turn, hence the lyric "and voices sang to me from No Man's Land". Interesting facts: this Sabaton song actually starts as "Carol of the Bells" and then evolves into an original song. Also, the small town where "Silent Night" was written was declared an intangible cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 2011. After this incident, high command on both sides banned any soldier from leaving their respective trenches with the threat of excecution.
This song always chokes me up. I imagine what it must of been like. We lost family in WW1 one of them Victor Stewart Marshall infantry shot dead and is buried in France and in WW2 52nd battalion gunner crew Walter Stewart Marshall was captured in Crete and imprisoned in an Italian camp. But dug a tunnel with a British officer and helped others escape managed to make it to Turkey in WW2 Turkey was neutral allies taken them home Walter was training back at Burnham Military camp but decided to change his name just to go back as he felt wrong leaving his fellow brothers in Arms behind. But this time he was shot in the stomach and had to return. Safely he later died of cancer in the stomach and bowels.
Bismark is a good one for first timers, another epic story video. I do love Defense of Moscow for the visuals as well as Royal Guard. The guys love to play a part in a video, you can usually pick them, the long hair is a give away and the lead singer Joakim, his mohawk and unique beard.
The soldiers of the Christmas truce found out, that they actually had more in common with the poor bastard in the other trench, than with their own generals! In the Christmas of 1915, the generals couldn't have that! So there was no repeat of the 1914 Christmas truce on this large scale, as the artillery kept firing ... Some DID come out of their trenches, but was mostly instantly killed by the enemy soldiers. No moment of peace in a war that'll never end ... Until 11 o'clock, 11th of November, 1918 ... War to end all wars, indeed ...
This truce was between britian and Germany in 1914. They sang together and exchanged gifts. Before the education system became a democratic propaganda tool, we were taught this.
Hi guys, new subscriber here. If you want another historical tear jerker from Sabaton, you HAVE to checkout "NO BULLETS FLY" (Animated story). Another example of human compassion between enemies... The endings (plural) of the video will leave a lump in your throat, and tears on your cheeks... Welcome to the Sabaton Family... 🤘😘🤘 x.
It's a true story. A British soldier recalled that on Dec 24th they heard singing from the German trenches & joined in. The next morning on Dec 25th they were in shock when they saw a German soldier crossing No Man's Land with a small fir tree with candles in its branches. A Sargeant Major said "get down ya bloody fools & shoot that man!" The British soldier immediately said *"oh shut up Sargeant it's Christmas time!"* before leaving the trenches where he met the German soldier in the middle of No Man's Land & they wished each other Merry Christmas before both sides had a joint celebration of the holiday
Nice reaction but when watching metal music videos, never stop before the end. You missed the best female singer around - Floor Jansen singing the outro. Remember, you are listening to real music with real meaning, not throwaway pop.
the cross is here in Belgium....in ypres to be precise.....(that whas nomansland in that time..)...and yeah it all happened....even the football..(soccer)...and exchaning things together....there should be a memorial statue in england somewhere...that has one axis, and one alied soldier shaking hands...with a soccerball in between them....search for it.....thanks for reacting to this masterpiece
The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting. The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad. Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.
At some parts of the Western front of 1914, this Christmas truce actually held up until (and slightly beyond) New years eve 1914-1915. However, This was the Only time in recorded history where there's actually been a truce between the sides waging war, because after this, it was decided that If there was another attempt of having some sort of truce during a holliday like Easter or Christmas or anything like that, you would be sure to face Court martial after, and so this was tve Only time there's ever been a truce during a holliday sinse.
Great reaction, guys!🤘 You better get used to high quality productions while discovering more Sabaton 😁. I recommend "Bismarck" (official music video), "No bullets fly" (animated story video. Make sure you watch it all! There's a lot of info after the song 😊) and "Red Baron" (live from Berlin, 2020). Every Sabaton song is a lesson in military history. They don't take political sides, they only tell the story. Greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪🤘
Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars. They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022. Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's RUclips safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken) If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these: (These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use) [live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising [Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling [Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama and The lost betallion [Music Video's]: Bismarck, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising & Seven Pillars of wisdom [Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's) [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video] and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
Good reaction, thanks! Almost 130 comments already, I'm sorry but I don't have the energy to check them all so with the risk of making a duplicate comment... So, young lady, you have seen the Cross already if I understood it right? It was erected in Saint Yves in Belgium in 1999 to mark the 85 year anniversary of the Truce taking place. You probably also noticed that Sabaton had changed one of the years for the purpose of this video, but other than that the Cross in this video is fairly accurate replica of the original. On the real Cross it reads "1914 - [The Khaki Chums] - Christmas Truce - 1999 - 85 years - Lest We Forget". If you for one reason or another should find yourself in the City of Liverpool I think you should go to Saint Luke's Old Bombed Out Church on Leece Street (at the corner of Great George Street?). There's something there that I think you should see. I wont tell you what it is but you will know when you see it. I hope everyone else here also will hold their piece and not spill the beans about what it is they will see. Cheers / B.
Congrats, you've now discovered Sabaton and attracted the rather unique group that loves both history and metal music; songs to definitely find: Attack of the Dead Men (Sabaton's video but also the Radio Tapok one), Fields of Verdun (Music Video), Red Baron (live show), if you're alright getting emotional, try Final Solution (Lyric Video)
The band have there own section on The History Channel online site with all kinds of videos (history behind the songs, music videos, etc) for history buffs like yourself.
Let me remind you that at the end of the video we hear the angelic voice of Floor Jansen... precisely the angels who meet the souls of the dead... this makes the video more dramatic... and more beautiful.
I don't disagree BUT I've seen several people that don't know a word Swedish or German, getting moist eyes when watching 'Carolus Rex' or 'Got Mit Uns'. 'The lion from the north' have some lyrics in Latin that seem important to the unknowing listener 👌 A Russian opera singer heard 'the defense of Russia' and started crying after a while. She knew the story and was surprised over her own reaction UNTIL she replayed the part that made her cry. That part of the song actually had the Russian national anthem hidden within. Love or hate Russia, but hiding their anthem in the song was impressive 👍 'En livstid i krig' live in Gothenburg, is however my favorite.

Is this for a movie? A Christmas in the trenches Madness We drink and unite Today we're all brothers We drink and unite When we celebrated Christmas
That's history to the point. The WW1truce was all over the western front battle lines. The Pope have just asked for an Xmas truce but top brass didn't. So spontaneously soldiers began to sing xmas songs from one trench to the other until finally some just climbed the trenches and were received by the enemy. In the video you see one soldier writing to his family and historically that's in great part how this truce got known. And guys you missed Floor Jansen singing the credits segment.

after the truce the soldiers stopped fighting even in the following days. It was hard to kill someone who drank and sang with you. They were all reassigned to other areas, and another truce was prohibited (court martial for it)
I KNEW IT
Welcome to Sabaton world.
Their songs are always authentic stories of military history.
Sabaton rabbithole time
For whatever reason, the song caught my attention this year and it's on ALL my Christmas playlists. EVERY listen gives me chills. I'm not crying. You are.
Soldiers are soldiers. We have more in common with each other than those who start wars or never serve.
The final solution...are a masterpiece aboult that painfull topic

One of my favorite favorites songs by them is call no bullets fly, its an animated video and when the song starts its just a beautiful imagery and story.
Oh yeah they have a history Channel.
they're Swedish. Oh and all there songs are some form of a war story.
We have a good back log to get busy with! 🔥
That was Floor singing in the ending credits that you cut off. Now the Nightwish fans are going to have at you. Next should be "Bismarck" or "The Night Witches (Animated Story Video)".
Animated Story Video.
@@dorlonelliott9368 Okay fixed. Thanks.
This video is not about Floor. Our Goddess gets enough attention. It's all good. The message and music are more important.
Never hear this on radio because it's metal 😭 deserves Xmas number one though
sabaton is perfect for people who love military history
If you love history then you will love Sabaton. All of their songs are based on battles and history.
You really need to watch more Sabaton. All songs are a history leason about something that happend in a war.
We really do.
what an opening !! 😄
Imagine to be the first one to step into no mans land unarmed with a hundred rifles pointing at you, you have to be 50% mad and 100% giant balls of steel. And no one shot. So inspiring.
oh, you should bring your dad on to react to Sabaton songs with you :)
Wow. You guys have never heard of Sabaton!? I have 5 recommendations for you!
1) Defense of Moscow
2) Night Witches (Animated Story Video) feat. YarnHub
3) Final Solution (keep tissues close for this one)
4) No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Video) feat. Yarnhub
5) Bismarck
Seriously, give Sabaton a true listen! They are an awesome band -- and they are the history teacher you didn't know you needed!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you two! I hope you are well and stay safe during the holiday season!
Thank you for the recommendations 🔥
it was the germans who started to sing Stille nach ( Holy night) and soon the brits and french sang too and on german climbed upp and started to walk over no man land and soon the met the germans brought beer ghe brist whisky and gthe french wine, and someone started to kick a ball och so in began, humanity in hell, the next day whole companys refused to fire on each other and was transferred to other front lines. pure magic
It happened in WW1.
The next year they forbid to stop fighting with christmas because the day after the first stop they refused to shoot their new found friends and had to be replaced to another spot.
TIP please listen to the whole video next time because you cut of the beautiful voice of Floor Jansen at the end.
It was also covered over a small part of the western front where this truce occured, the majority just kept fighting
@@KachiAT Yes that's what I read as well.
If you notice right before the chorus is says "we ARE all friends" and switches to "we WERE all friends"
Check out their history channel as well.

The woman that's singing at the end is Floor Jansen, the lead vocalist in Nightwish. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer in Sabaton.
Ah interesting
@@BreakdownMediaYT. They have a daughter named Freja too.
They have an live and acoustic version of this
Sabaton - Christmas Truce / musikhjälpen 2021
Wow, what an intense story!
Bismark is a good one for first timers, another epic story video. I do love Defense of Moscow for the visuals as well as Royal Guard. The guys love to play a part in a video, you can usually pick them, the long hair is a give away and the lead singer Joakim, his mohawk and unique beard.
Sabaton are on tour in uk next year 4 or 5 concerts ..
It is crazy what used to go on back in the day!
Loads more out there to watch from the lads.
It's so fun watching a very first experience of Sabaton! They really take you on a trip!
Check out "En Livstid i Krig" (A lifetime in War) live from Gothenburg (subtitles) you will be emotinal touch by it.
I 2nd this whole heartedly
The whole album!!!!! The War To End All Wars!!!!!!!
Look forward to it 😀
Nice reaction but when watching metal music videos, never stop before the end.
Sabaton are modern bards.
Beautiful reaction
Wow, thank you 💜
All i want for xmas is this😁
At some parts of the Western front of 1914, this Christmas truce actually held up until (and slightly beyond) New years eve 1914-1915.
Hi from Sweden🇸🇪 see there live videos as well from the Great war toure ex en livstid i krig live
"When we celebrated Christmas, we thought about our friends, those that never made it home when the battled had commenced" this line hit so much ..
There is now an animated story video for this song
Sweden 🇸🇪 all hail Sabaton ❤️
This story took place in WW1 it was little cease fires in trenches along the magnoit line
You guys should do No Bullets fly. It's about the Ye Old Pub.
A lot of them soldiers refused to fight each other and got moved so any future truce was banned and punishment was court martial.
Yes. This story is 100% factual.
Bismarck and the Red Barron I think are the 2 songs to listen to next. Will make Sabaton your favorite band
Looking forward to it!
Hannes hugging Chris always breaks my heart.
Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars.
They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022.
Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's RUclips safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken)
If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these:
(These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use)
[live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising
[Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling
[Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama and The lost betallion
[Music Video's]: Bismarck, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising & Seven Pillars of wisdom
[Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's)
[Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video]
and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
We are starting to love this band even more
yes this really happened!!
Sabaton always tells true stories.
You should react more to Sabaton. We always need more fans to support this awesome and genuin band! Try reacting to Sabaton - Verdun next.
Let me remind you that at the end of the video we hear the angelic voice of Floor Jansen... precisely the angels who meet the souls of the dead... this makes the video more dramatic... and more beautiful.
If you can imagine him sailing across the see watch Bismarck
Haha look forward to it 🏴☠️
I don't disagree BUT I've seen several people that don't know a word Swedish or German, getting moist eyes when watching 'Carolus Rex' or 'Got Mit Uns'.
'The lion from the north' have some lyrics in Latin that seem important to the unknowing listener 👌
A Russian opera singer heard 'the defense of Russia' and started crying after a while. She knew the story and was surprised over her own reaction UNTIL she replayed the part that made her cry. That part of the song actually had the Russian national anthem hidden within.
Love or hate Russia, but hiding their anthem in the song was impressive 👍
'En livstid i krig' live in Gothenburg, is however my favorite.
also yarn hub did a video for this new video too , its very neat
Sabaton are a Power Metal band from Sweden. They sing songs about war history that are quite accurate, I highly recommend listening to The Red Baron next.
They're heavy metal
this group is amazing and a good song to check out is "Bismarck" or "To Hell and Back"
Sabatons songs are always based and about true events from war and history.
Is this for a movie?
Oh, I remember the silence
On a cold winter day (sounds like Christmas when snow was normal)
And we were used to the violence
We are all friends
And today we're all brothers (today?)
A Christmas in the trenches
Madness
We drink and unite
Today we're all brothers
We drink and unite
When we celebrated Christmas
That's history to the point. The WW1truce was all over the western front battle lines. The Pope have just asked for an Xmas truce but top brass didn't. So spontaneously soldiers began to sing xmas songs from one trench to the other until finally some just climbed the trenches and were received by the enemy. In the video you see one soldier writing to his family and historically that's in great part how this truce got known. And guys you missed Floor Jansen singing the credits segment.
I can't believe you stopped as the ending credits were rolling .. geeze .. possibly the best part
Tommy the guitarist is an unbelievable singer, check out his other bands Majestica (Chrismas Carol) and ReinXeed
On December 24th the German soldiers lit their lanterns and displayed them on the edge of their trenches, carol singing broke out. Soon enough the British and French troops joined in. Christmas greetings, played Soccer and well wishes were exchanged, and offers of a temporary ceasefire were communicated between the trenches.
They also played the most iconic game of Soccer ever recorded.
The truce lasted for two days but when their superior officers found out the soldiers on sll sides were punished. Some were transfered out, some ran,not wanting to fight. And the r est w ere shot right there for refusing orders to restart the battle once again. The soldiers didnt want to kill those they had met.

**In 1999 a wooden cross was put up where it happened, near Ypres/Leper. It still stands and has soccer balls surrounding it's base.
As a matter of facts, this happened the 1st xmas 🎄 in the war. Next ones command staff just told soldiers that any soldier involved in another truce will be court martial. Good people dying for the selfishness of a few ones.
Very nice reaction! Next up with Sabaton really should be ”No bullets fly” (animated story version) 👍
