This song was the last Sabaton mom got to hear I sent it to her the 29th of October when it was released and we discussed playing it at Christmas for the family She passed away unexpectedly on Halloween I play it almost daily
I know how you feel, for I had the same "experience" with another song.... ... that we played on mom's funeral than... Always remember, she is not gone, but only a bit ahead, waiting for the ones she loved...
I think Sabaton are modern day bards, using metal music to tell their stories. This particular song with the music video is their best piece of art I think.
The fact this was historical fact is hopeful at the same time scary. One day of peace and unity warms the heart, but once midnight struck it was back war and that’s what absolutely wrecks you
Months late, but something similar happened in WWII during the Battle of the Bulge. An American 3 man Patrol had gotten lost and happened upon a small house, they knocked on the door and the woman and her son let them in and fed them A bit later another knock came, and it was a 4 man German Patrol who also had gotten lost. She looked the Germans determinedly in the eye, inviting them in-but also warning them about what they would find inside. “You could be my sons,” she told the Germans, “and so could those in there. A boy with a gunshot wound, fighting for his life. His two friends, lost like you and just as hungry and exhausted as you are. This one night, this Christmas night, let us forget about killing.” For a moment in the second most brutal Instance a war, 30 years to the day after the first Truce between British and German Troops, There was a lul in the fighting, even if for a tiny pair of patrols old enough to be the sons of this German Woman, Elisabeth Vincken
Your reaction was very touching. Floor Jansen was singing in the credits part. Keep reacting to Sabaton, No Bullets fly animated story video, watch until the very end. It's also as emotional as this video.
Some people might say you're late to the party but this is a message we need year round. Thanks so much for understanding and appriciating this epic song
This event shows that in any situation one must remain human, and even wage war against human ideals and principles, without turning into absolute evil.
Joakim : "We needs a beautiful soprano voice for the ending" Hannes : "don't worry, i got you bro" *Pick up phone, call Floor* "Hey honey, would you like to sing a Christmas song ?..."
This moment in history is a moment of peace and beauty. Both sides were told the war would be over by Christmas… but sadly it wasn’t. It was in that moment that peace broke out by both sides randomly and in multiple spots. For one moment the guns were silent. Then the war was back and lasted three more years. That was in 1914, over 100 years later we see this great reaction to the story!
I am 3 minutes in to your reaction and YOU have my outermost respect for how you made this video. It is perfect! I bet Sabaton would love this! You are putting in the historical facts to the moments in the music that fit to them perfectly. Edit: You are explaining the ideas behind their music video perfectly in my opinion. And i dont know their ideas..but it fits so well.
This amazing song was filmed in august 2021 in Czech Republic 🇨🇿 and original cross is near Ypres, Belgium ...btw Floor at the end is great.. greetings from Czech Republic 🇨🇿🤗🙏
They need to add floor singing to the end of the song on the album it feels like it's missing something without hearing floor sing on the songs way out
The sign you mentioned, that cross, was put in a village , the actual frontline, on the border between Belgium and France, Ploegsteert (B) and Frelenghin (Fr). There is still standing a memorial cross.
Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use brilliantly crafted music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. It should come as no surprise that Hannes, their drummer is husband to Floor Jansen whose angelic and operatic voice you hear at the end. Sabaton, like Nightwish transcends their genre. No one matches them for their story telling and the respect they show their subject matter. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen. In an interview, Joakim was asked why Sabaton seems to focus on war and conflict. Joakim replied, "There are so many stories out there that are forgotten and do not deserve to. Why then should we make shit up?" Joakim has the right of it.
I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).
This event was in 1916. The battlefields of flanders, ypers (Ieper) , Belgium. The cross is replacd in 1999. Every evening they blast the last post at the gates of Ypres to remmenber this and not forget the cruel of the ware. Sorry fot my bad English.
It didnt stop the war it was just a hold up. They where not allowed to do that the coming Christmas. The war ended in 1918. The song is Christmas truce but not the album. The album is called The war to end all wars and releasedate is the 4:th of Mars 2022.
December 24th, 1914, the silent night. Where Brits, French, and Germans learned across the line, they were the same, the only barrier, being language. Even that did not stop Silent Night, Nuit silencieuse, & Stille Nacht, being heard across the line.
In that year, the Pope made a request to have a cease fire. Some spots didn't agree and kept fighting. Some stories are there were other places that the same thing happened depicted in the video but couldn't be confirmed. Then there's stories of soldiers from either side trying to make contact and being gunned down. From what I've been told and read, the original cross was destroyed and a monument one was erected in its place to remind all of one day in hell, enemies came together and celebrated being human.
That was a great reaction from you! You should do their "No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Vid)" next, another beautiful moment in the middle of a horrible war.
The cross that Joakim carries actually exists, standing near Ypres, Belgium. So that future generations can know what the Great War was about... "Lest We Forget." Hi there, just a correction. You showed at the bottom of the screen that this song is from the ALBUM, Christmas Truce. The actual ALBUM is The War to End All Wars.
So, im really sorry to be the one to say this I skimmed through a few comments to see if someone else had addressed it. Likely, they have but I didn't see it. But, there wasn't an end to fighting at that point. The truce that was reached was not sanctioned, allowed, or approved by each sides respective nations. As a result, they were ordered to go back to fighting not long after. These men, took it upon themselves to find peace in the midst of battle. To find what brought them all together and made them similar instead of focusing on what tore them apart and they honored that by making a truce and enjoying each other. But right after they were each ordered to continue fighting. They had to kill the men they just made friends with. They werent given a choice. Either become traitors and deserters or fight for their country which is what they were all there to do. It must have been the hardest thing in the world. But it's important to tell this part of the story, because they deserve to have their story told. The tragedy of what they experienced is a lesson for all of us. We have to look at the awful outcome of this attempt at true goodness to see the darkness of human nature and continue to try and fight it.
This truce wasn't authorized by the military command on both sides it was a spontaneous act from the German soldiers. After the truce many refused to keep fighting and as a result of that they got executed for refusing to follow orders.
Just in the first 5 months of the war up to the Truce, more than 350.000 French, 250.000 Germans, 20.000 British, 15.000 Belgians and 200.000 Russians were killed in battle. Reaction Retreat
Sadly this was not universal across all fronts. There are instances of solders being gunned down by their less trusting opposition. To give even more context on this, the war is only months old at this point, true horror has not yet begun to sink in. These truces were not official in any way and the officers in charge were PISSED that it happened. Most of the troops involved in these truces were rotated to different parts of the front so they'd no longer have feelings for their opposition. By the time Christmas 1915 rolled around, Germany had started using gas and there was a lot less sympathy for the men on the other side of the line, so there there was never a repeat of the Christmas Truces of 1914.
To insure there was no temptation to do so, the artillery on both sides fired randomly throughout Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 1915, preventing any of the conversations which triggered the truce the year before.
@@ROYALTEHILLAHTVREACT The thing is, the 1.st workd war was calmed "The War to End all Wars".... then 21 years later the 2.nd world war broke out with England (France only joined in a few days to weeks later if my knowledge of history serves me correctly) declaring war on Germany for marching in to Poland.

Sabaton has made it a habit to take suggestions from the fans of songs for events in history. This was one of the biggest request from the fans.
