I'm very disappointed he did not admit that the military theme was inspired by older bands like Manowar and Bolt Thrower who have been doing military history themed metal since the 1980's. Not cool to not give credit where credit is due. There is no way one can be into metal and not have heard of those bands.
I have massive love and genuine respect for Sabaton. Last time I went to a show, it was to see them with my kids. Joakim pulled my kids up on stage because my son had a similar hairstyle, and he gifted my son his sunglasses. My son had a lot of social, language, and sensory disorders at the time - but the band was just super amazing to both of my kids. Loved them before that show, but I became a fan of each person afterwards.
Seen him do the same at a show in LA a few years back. Pulled a kid up on stage for the closing song, gave him his glasses. Kid tried to give them back at the end and Joakim had to tell him they were his lol.

Oh don't get me wrong he does kill it on that album, but if your paying attention you'll notice that what Joakim is singing is often relatively simple. (especially in the older stuff) Now it actually works quite well for Sabaton as it leans into that storyteller vibe they want to give off and the music is often so well written that you don't care that the vocals are a little simplistic. Plus ultimately its not about how clever you can sound and about how impressive your vocal range is etc, its about making music that is good to listen too, which Joakims voice always has been and thats always been his greatest strength as a lead vocalist.
My 7 year old son is a massive military history geek (seriously...the kid knows more random military history facts than most adults, it's insane). Anyway, a couple months ago I started hearing Sabaton coming from his tablet as well as his usual history documentaries. He's a natural musician, so the combination of history that's actually correct (he fact checks the songs, it's awesome) and great music is amazing for him. I introduced him to the Sabaton history channel and he's hooked. Thank you, Sabaton, for such a rich source for two of the things that seem to feed my kid's soul. 2:55 I love Sabaton for their music of course. But I love them also for this fantastic man who Joakim is. The "Too late" and his face when he realized he got some tea leaves in his keyboard is priceless.
My fiancée is a metalhead and loves Sabaton. He introduced me to this band, and I thought it was really cool. I told him that maybe I wouldn't have forgotten everything I learned in history if I'd been taught through the context of song. When I became pregnant, we didn't stop blaring Sabaton on the road. Once my son was born, for a those first months, one of the only things to get him to stop crying was listening to Sabaton. He must have recognized it from when he was inside. It was crazy because he would be screaming his head off, and then as soon as he heard Joakim's voice, he'd stop. At least long enough that we could distract him and do whatever we needed to do- change him, get him into the carseat, whatever. His favorites were 82nd All The Way, Bismarck, and The Red Baron. He would just stop and look toward the sound source.
Awww. Joakim just seems like a super nice man. He seems so low key and humble that I could really almost forget that he's the frontman of a globally known band.
Well, as Tank the Tech researched, a lot of bands have realized that videos and channels like this are great marketing and really help get their music out to people who haven't heard it before. It seems really obvious, but a lot of companies didn't and still don't get that.
@@nicolivoldkif9096 A lot of companies are still on a completely top down model of telling the consumer what he/she likes, and they're welcome to die on that hill, of a long, festering gut wound. The music industry will be better for it.
This is just the best. My Girlfriend (now wife) was not having metal music at all while dating. But she met the Sabaton crew at her work in security at Arlanda Airport, Joakim and crew was such a nice bunch, she us now a proper fan for sure. Now she find the good new Metal stuff all these years later! 😁
This amazing guy composed a beautiful song called Smoking Snakes, about Brazilian war heroes. We are very grateful to him for that. I also really love his voice and Sabaton ❣❤🇧🇷 Cobras fumantes eterna é sua vitória ❤❣🇧🇷
I feel the same way about "A Ghost In The Trenches" Canadian military goes under recognized, especially those members of the First Nations communities who seldom get recognition at all, aside from the wind talkers. So I get where you're coming from. 🤘
Joakim is buff 💪💀 Also such a humble and down to Earth guy, I’d love to take a beer with him in a pub if I could. Also, can’t wait to see them live in a month!
I met him like 12 years ago for a bit at a before party. He was very nice and incredibly funny. Also surprisingly tactful, given how much they drank that night haha Watching all the Sabaton Interviews, I'm glad to see this hasn't changed. Very interesting interview. In the start, he was not a great singer, but he became good with time. He also sounds like... better in Swedish for some reason. I guess he is more comfortable. I cannot imagine someone else singing in Sabaton. Just like I cannot imagine someone but James with Metallica.
As a photographer, Sabaton is an amazing band to shoot! The first few times it was purely for the visuals but I ended up loving the music as well. Joakim (and the rest of the band) seem so kind and genuine and I have only heard nice things about them in the industry. It was a pleasure to watch this interview!
Best Regards To Joakim from Czech Republic. Sabaton is the Best in re-telling the stories from war! And my Thanks goes to Elizabeth, you are beautiful and amazing as well. Michael.
An this is why the Charismatic Voice makes a huge difference in the "reaction" scene in YT. What an amazing, wonderful and valuable exchange of 2 great talents. ❣
I was lucky enough to see them live in 2016 before they blew up and the whole band is just as nice as Joakim seems to be in this interview. They came out after the show and hung out for a while and took pics and signed autographs for anyone who wanted them. The energy of that first concert made me a lifelong fan.
@Janne Olsson I meant since they blew up in popularity in the US. When I saw them in 16 they were at a tiny venue and we got tickets at the door an hour before the show.
One minute in, and Joakim is already a sweet heart of a man. Cool guy. Hey Joakim, “you rule dude!! Thank you and your awesome band for the music you all create”.
I adore Joakim, I've seen him and Sabaton Live maybe 5 times now? First time maybe around 2010 ( I still have a jacket signed by him and the rest of the band from the first time I saw them play. ) And he still has the same joy and love for his fans when he's playing a packed headline for a major festival as he did when Sabaton was playing a 10am slot to a few hundred people.
Joakim really sounds and acts like a nice man and a genuinely great person. Love his sense of humor and Sabaton's music has become my favorite. I really look forward to more of their music in the years to come.
Oh my GOD, ever since I saw your video for the Christmas Truce I became obsessed with all their stuff and have been so excited for the new album. I just almost screamed seeing this premiere.
yeh the christmas truce be the 1st song l heard by sabaton and now l has all their stuff on my spotify as well as tommy johansson's stuff with reignxeed and majestica
I learned more interesting facts about him in the first 60 seconds of this trailer than I have from most other interviews I've watched (admittedly, not too many). Anyways, I'm sure it's going to be phenomenal. I'm going to try and be there tomorrow morning! Edit: Before this video went live, it showed a two-minute trailer.
I really feel that Sabaton and Joakim have grown as a band so much in recent years. It's still pretty much the 'same' band yet their songs feel more unique. As longtime fan it really makes me happy. Thank you Elizabeth for this interview . Great work!
Oh, this interview is a jewel! 7 years ago, when they released the album "Heroes" I had the greatest luck to interview Joakim just a few hours before their concert in Budapest and I can confirm everything. He was just so kind, funny, natural, patient (as my English was a bit rusted back then due to lack of use), he even offered me a free entry for the show. The interview was agreed to take like cc. 10 minutes but we talked for more than 20. I had a great time - I hope he had, too :) Uh, one sweet thing: I asked him about how the Ballad of Bull was born and what he felt about its slower pace, emotional load and all that, which, before, was not characteristic of Sabaton's music - this song is my favourite from that album. Joakim told me it was never intended to be on the album, the melody was just a promising improvision saved for later use, but accidentally it was saved in the Heroes folder and the other guys heard it and, obviously, loved it, so the ballad got in :) Turns out they got the taste of it (Christmas Truce, oh my...), luckily, and I love them for it!!
Saw Sabaton in concert last fall...this should be a good interview. Joakim seems like a good dude and was very fun to see in concert...he really connects with the crowd.
Every time I watch the Christmas Truce video or hear the song,I choke up and try my very hardest not to cry. Every time. I think it's the most beautiful, deeply touching Christmas song I've ever heard. I've lived for 70 years and this is the only one that touches my heart this much. It also brings the story to younger people who may not know it. Thank you Joakim, for taking so much time, love, and care to create such a masterpiece.
Sabaton performed in Spokane, WA with Delain and Nightwish a handful of years ago. I had never heard their music, but oh my gosh! They blew me away. The crowd went nuts! It was as if the energy given by Joakim and the band was given back by the crowd. Just insane! He came in with a kick in the air with the music and just lit the venue on fire. I have such fond memories of that night. Cheers to Sabaton for making such fun music!
You should check out their vlogs. They capture their down-to-earth humbleness personality, such as Par playing World of Tanks on the big screen they use on stage, and Joakim and Hannes having the usual fun when out hiking in Utah.
Love the fact that Joakim is such an intellectual, the complete opposite of what those journalists and haters expect. Everything is well researched and politically neutral! 🤟🏻
I love Sabaton and this was great! Joakim and the rest of the guys in Sabaton seem like guys you just want to sit down with, have a drink, and have a good time with. I really wish they got more air play here in the USA.
Just love it ... it's like sitting around a campfire with friends talking about music and history , this whole conversation feels just so natural...and I learned a lot today ... thank you both
I have just recently become a huge fan of Sabaton. I knew who they were for many years but never bothered to check into them. I feel like such a fool for waiting so many years to listen them, but now I have all their albums and love every one of them!
I remember hammerfall opening for sabaton back in NYC on November 2019. Back then I kinda regretted having helloween be my first despite the show being amazing. After watching hammerfall perform it became clear and then sabaton started performing then I regretted not having sabaton be my first concert more than the other 2. (Sabaton was my 3rd concert at the time)
I got to meet him in Tokyo. Sabaton stayed at the hotel I was already at for Loud park 2017. He was so tired from touring but happy to meet a fan. Met the band in the e!evator, great guys. I didn't get to the the show unfortunately due to work, but I got to meet so many bands over breakfast before heading off to work. I shared a kettle of tea with Michael Schenker, hung with Nick Barker and Tracii Guns. Good trip.
Joakim is so cool and genuine and seems like a really fantastic person. I absolutely love Sabaton . I’ve learned as much about history by listening to them as I did in high school
The most unique about joakim is that he's a musician that has more instruments to play and he's a simple man, he stands out cause the band hangs out more like buddies and there more or less shy away from the rock party aspect, most are drinking blokes to be exact and they all put forward their parts when they make songs. Means every part of the band more or less contribute even if joakim and par had to banter time in time what lyrics or story they gonna match up the piece they just rehearsed. Quite unique from a metal head whose very level headed and mature also them and dragon force come-on two different styles but friends
I don't know if I'm the only one, but I notice some very good chemistry between these 2 people. Not suggesting anything, just a very pleasant, natural and friendly conversation. :)
I was reading the book called Lions of the North and I was thrilled with joy, now I will watch your interview with Joakim it will be like a dream come true :) You and Joakim are amazing in their simplicity
Now that´s what I call an interview! Real interest, empathy, own experience mixed in, having fun together and no interruptions because of time pressure. I would like to see Elizabeth on the "left-side"/being asked. Change seats/roles and let Joakim do it ^^ Perfection!
I was at Hellfest '19 and Sabaton did a surprise show, because Manowar cancelled. Sabaton did a show the day before at a different festival at the same location (Knotfest) Joakim's voice was dying (because of the day before), but it was still among the top of the events at the festival. The feeling of brotherhood was just so fantastic. The other bandmembers did a great job of taking over some of the vocals. There was also a choir that helped for sure. It also helped that they played the lyric videos of their songs on the screens, so everyone was singing along, it was great! It was also quite funny to stand in line together with Joakim, in front of the food places, still wearing his stage armor :D
Epic interview! Especially awesome to hear him talk about using old school approaches of tweaking their instrument set up to generate an organically better sound when layered in the recording process, versus just "autotuning" in post production.
Thank you for introducing me to Sabaton. I am a military historian myself and a classically trained musician. I am not that into heavy metal but these guys are really amazing.
Elizabeth what a gem you are. A very warm, intelligent and free flowing discussion. Much better than most mechanical (and often quite silly) interviews.
Elizabeth and Joakim, you talk to each other like old friends. Everything is easy, and you are telling "the story" like it was from a script. Många gröna bilar lyssnar på er. Tack för att vi kan vara vakna och på hugget! 2Lt Jansson
Love listening to you two getting nerdy about music production. I dont play myself but have done some foh for smaller local bands. Hearing you talk about the small details and work that goes into it gives it a human touch. Makes it feel so much more relatable, not like something "as seen on tv".
Thank you Elizabeth and Joakim for this excellent interview, I have been a fan of Sabaton sins Prima Victoria and I learned a lot through this interview.

I love that he watched and enjoyed Lawrence of Arabia! That movie's so awesome. I recently watched it again for the third or fourth time. It still holds up so well. I love that it's a classic film and I love the story told. Strongly recommend it to everyone that's willing to watch classic films. (Lawrence of Arabia was made in 1962)
I remember Sweden Rock 2012, Sabaton performed the Swedish national anthem for and with us. That feeling will stay with me for a long time. Seen them a couple of times but that one felt the most. Classy people.
Making a cup of tea while watching this was a really nice experience, Joakim is such a great person, coincidentally my tea finished same time as his lmao

These tea time interviews are really great, I make sure I have my own cup of tea whenever I watch one. Some really amazing artists interviewed so far, can't wait to see what the future brings.
It’s genuinely something I love about these interviews. Tune in, five minutes of tips and advice on tea, it’s a great ice-breaker and brings a kind of energy you don’t usually see in band / musician interviews.
Met Joakim and Sabaton back in 2006. Super friendly and approachable guys. Very kind and generous with their time back then and he seems exactly the same now, which is very impressive to see. Massive respect for what they've accomplished since then.

Once again, a great interview, milady! I went to my first Sabaton concert last year in Laval, Quebec! It was insane.
I love how simple and honest Joakim is.
Wait, you got Joakim?! 😲😲🥳🥳
Make sure he's taking good care of that voice, E, we want a lot more Sabaton albums.
Joakim are a very kind, polite and gentle man. I am proud to be a Swede 🇸🇪 as him.
👌👍✌
This is just the best. My Girlfriend (now wife) was not having metal music at all while dating. But she met the Sabaton crew at her work in security at Arlanda Airport, Joakim and crew was such a nice bunch, she us now a proper fan for sure. Now she find the good new Metal stuff all these years later! 😁
This amazing guy composed a beautiful song called Smoking Snakes, about Brazilian war heroes. We are very grateful to him for that. I also really love his voice and Sabaton ❣❤🇧🇷
Cobras fumantes eterna é sua vitória ❤❣🇧🇷
I feel the same way about "A Ghost In The Trenches"
Canadian military goes under recognized, especially those members of the First Nations communities who seldom get recognition at all, aside from the wind talkers. So I get where you're coming from.
🤘
As a Polish guy I can say that feeling appreciated by Sabaton is a great feeling and I know you know what I mean 😄
I feel a Tea Time Interview with Floor Jansen getting closer and closer. 🙏🏻🤘🏻🔥
Had the exact same thought
Thinking the same thing as well.
Maybe, hopefully, E and Kirk planted a little bug in Joakim's ear about having a word with Hannes. 🤣
THE GLORY!!
Here's hoping! She will have a solo song to promote soon after all 🤞
I really hope so, that would be awesome!
Joakim is buff 💪💀
Also such a humble and down to Earth guy, I’d love to take a beer with him in a pub if I could.
Before they blew up? They have been great since 2005. They have desized if what not.
I'm the same. Saw her video, then immediately went to my Spotify and followed them. Now, they're one of my favourite metal bands
At 66 yrs old I ve seen em come and go. Sabaton- has grabbed me on so many levels it's crazy. This was up close and personal. Just awesome.
Sabaton is amazing it's like a history lesson in an great metal song.
I had a great time - I hope he had, too :)
Uh, one sweet thing: I asked him about how the Ballad of Bull was born and what he felt about its slower pace, emotional load and all that, which, before, was not characteristic of Sabaton's music - this song is my favourite from that album.
Joakim is the only vocalist who’s voice I adore from the very beginning of my Sabaton run in 2016))
Saw Sabaton in concert last fall...this should be a good interview. Joakim seems like a good dude and was very fun to see in concert...he really connects with the crowd.
Sabaton has the best live show of any that I've seen.
You've got to see the bit about him losing a bet, and walking to their next show 350 miles away.
@@AnTirKP No way! Is that in this video or a different one?
@@suddenswarm5944 it was in 2015. Even made it to tv news, apparently.
@AnTirKP From Falun to Trondheim?
Swedish males of Joachim's age are often metalheads. Many of us grew up with Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Dio, Metallica, Black Sabbath.
This guy is incredible! I've loved Sabaton for years, but I never realized how down to earth and humorous they can be.
Saw them open for Judas Priest in September, he's a fantastic frontman, the whole band impressed me. Can't wait to see them again.
you lucky man. I was supposed to see them together in LA with a buddy in october but the tour got canceled before the show
I remember hammerfall opening for sabaton back in NYC on November 2019.
Back then I kinda regretted having helloween be my first despite the show being amazing. After watching hammerfall perform it became clear and then sabaton started performing then I regretted not having sabaton be my first concert more than the other 2. (Sabaton was my 3rd concert at the time)
@@nightowl9269 This makes no sense
This was fantastic! Joakim seems like such a nice person.
Would love to see a Tea time with Johan Hegg from Amon Amarth
The most important thing as a metal singer is to be unique. Joakim is definitely one of a kind and he stands out because of it
The most unique about joakim is that he's a musician that has more instruments to play and he's a simple man, he stands out cause the band hangs out more like buddies and there more or less shy away from the rock party aspect, most are drinking blokes to be exact and they all put forward their parts when they make songs.
Sabaton is so damn good live, I saw them in Clifton Park, NY a couple years ago and it was amazing
Three minutes in, and Joakim seems like one of the coolest people I’ve ever seen interviewed.
I was reading the book called Lions of the North and I was thrilled with joy, now I will watch your interview with Joakim it will be like a dream come true :) You and Joakim are amazing in their simplicity
I looved this interview Elizabeth ❤❤ love that you pulled in Joakim, and Tank Hannes and the new album is out as well. Such a great day today ❤
Sabaton did a show the day before at a different festival at the same location (Knotfest)
Joakim's voice was dying (because of the day before), but it was still among the top of the events at the festival.
Stage armour? I think thats just one of his outfits he wears lol
Joakim's such a badass 🤘🤘🤘
What a amazing band with a message that matters
Epic interview! Especially awesome to hear him talk about using old school approaches of tweaking their instrument set up to generate an organically better sound when layered in the recording process, versus just "autotuning" in post production.
Quite interesting.
Thank you for the most interesting and in depth interview i ever seen with Joakim and Sabaton, and I am even Swedish. Cheers!
I didn’t Joakim would sound like how he does but also his voice suits him so much
Thank you for introducing me to Sabaton. I am a military historian myself and a classically trained musician. I am not that into heavy metal but these guys are really amazing.
Elizabeth what a gem you are. A very warm, intelligent and free flowing discussion. Much better than most mechanical (and often quite silly) interviews.
What a genuinely great guy!! I was a fan before, I'm a bigger fan now!! Brilliant!
Oh hell yeah. Sabaton are one of my favorite bands. Their show was one of the most energetic concerts that I've ever been too...and FUN.
What a great interview! Joakim really seems to be such a cool guy. I really enjoyed his smile and his enthusiasm for music. Thank you for asking him to be on your channel.
Thanks Elizabeth for capturing Joakim's story. Well done.
I love that he watched and enjoyed Lawrence of Arabia! That movie's so awesome. I recently watched it again for the third or fourth time. It still holds up so well. I love that it's a classic film and I love the story told. Strongly recommend it to everyone that's willing to watch classic films. (Lawrence of Arabia was made in 1962)
After hearing about the Swedish music education it makes so much more sense why there are SO MANY swedish bands.
I thought the EXACT same thing!
*LOVE The nod to the Sabaton History Channel!*
I cannot wait. I have become such a huge fan since I discovered them back in October.
You should interview Tommy Johansson. He is one of the guitarists from Sabaton, but also the guitarist and singer from his own band Majestica. He has an incredible vocal range.
Please do a reaction to Sabaton guitar player Tommy Johansson's version of "You Raise Me Up" (one octave higher). A hidden gem!
The Christmas Truce popped up on my Facebook feed and I fell in love with this group. Thank you for this chat with Joakim.
Saw Sabaton when they came to town a while back. Amazing show and Joakim, as well as the rest of the guys, seemed to be having the best time up there. Made them one of my favorite bands right then.
Hi Elizabeth, this really was a Fun, Informative, and Exciting Tea Time Interview! You and Joakim are Amazing!! Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
This was a fun one! Thank you to both you and Joakim for taking the time.
Joakim peculiar style of singing it's what makes him unique and it's great as it is
Really enjoyed this interview. Elizabeth seems like such a lovely person in every video and same for Joakim.
Joakim is such a cool guy. My personal experiences with the band members, as well as experiences of people I know... Everyone has just nice things to say about them. So down to earth, friendly and kind guys.
Great talk and Joakim sure seems like a nice guy, he seems to be doing a lot more work than i thought.
Ufffff Sabaton!!!! The best band!!!!, long live the metal!!!!🤘
Thank you Elizabeth, that was so much fun to watch. He is one of my fav singers in metal/rock because of his tone, and a genuine good human!
First time I'm hearing this interview. AWESOME! I've said it many times, the first time I heard Christmas Truce it made me cry ❤ Love Sabaton!
Awesome! I love Joakim! Can't wait for the new album
Once again, a great interview, milady! I went to my first Sabaton concert last year in Laval, Quebec! It was insane. As an amateur historian, I have huge respect for groups who include history in their songs. My 11-year old son is now a big fan; his favorite Sabaton songs are Christmas Truce and Night Witches!
Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Floor Jansen, Amy Lee all on my Tea Time interview wish list.
I'd add Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth), Johannes Eckstrom (Avatar), Ylva Erikson (Brothers of Metal), and Angela Gossow (ex-Arch Enemy)
Yours and all of us as well!
Tuomas Holopainen ?!
Jorn Lande!
Anders Fridén (In Flames) would probably be up for it as well
