@@randomhalf-mapplesiruphalf1666 I said "non-religious", not "anti-religious". They aren't pushing Athiesm by any means, although, members of the band have stated they are Athiest. I appreciate their positive coverage of Christians, even if in conflict with the the band's own personal beliefs.
@@stephenhancock1578 I'm an atheist, and I sing along with "The Last Stand" like everybody else. The song isn't about glorifying God (or any of that "Deus Vult" crusade nonsense), but about the heroes, the 189, and their story. Whenever it shows up in their songs, Christianity is merely a plot device.
@@stephenhancock1578 They actually do trash Christianity, though indirectly, in "A Lifetime of War." "Religion and greed cause millions to bleed." There have been many conflicts since the Protestant Reformation, all the way up to the Irish "Troubles" in the 1970's, where the battle lines between the ostensibly "political" forces could be distinguished just as clearly by the simple difference of which sect of Christianity they profess. That's not the kind of distinction you can ignore, because whether or not religion itself is the motivation, the parishioners on both sides will be praying just as fervently for their own victory while decrying the heretics of the other side. Much like the Crusades, the 30 years war was motivated by political conquest in the name of religion, with lines like from the Catholic ArchDuke of Graz, "I would rather make a desert of this country, than rule over heretics," by which he meant Protestants.

"we're musicians what do we know about politics listen to smarter people than us" Now if only we had more Joakims in the music industry and the world in general ... :)
Respect from Japan. Nowadays every celebrity, sports player etc., push their political views. Joakim seems to be a very down to earth humble person. He's focusing on what he's good at, making great music and teaching us forgotten history, not virtue signaling and keeps his political views for himself when he casts the ballot. This is soooo rare nowadays. I think when most people hear the band name first time they connect to to Sabbath, and that's why they ask of Christian or Satanic connections.
3:28 Their songs are on the whole very simple and mostly follow the familiar theme of boy-being meets girl-being beneath silvery moon, (which then explodes for no adequately explored reason)
"Many worlds have now banned their act altogether, sometimes for artistic reasons, but most commonly because the band’s public address system contravenes local strategic arms limitation treaties." :P
*Such good answers from one of the greatest bands living. And I salute their desire to remember and remind, of HISTORY!!! So many of today's 'public education / indoctrination centers' refuse to teach history unless it is to drive an agenda. I recall an English "activist' who wanted schools to stop teaching about WWI and WWII !!!! Because it was frightening and depressing!!!!! Thank God for SABATON, creating great music and hopefully, inspiring many fans to study and learn the history behind the songs!!!!*
To be honest, I'm glad Joakim answered some of the questions the way he did. Stories that shouldn't be forgotten, as well as so many stories that were lost to most of history being brought back to light by them. Back in high school you never learned about battles like Osoweic and The Lost Battalion, simply for the fact that it wasn't a major American battle. I'm so glad they're popular, they've refired my interest in historical militaries and strategy.
This is probably the best view about politics you can have as a celebrity. You shouldn't force your opinion on people just because you have the influence to do so, and I respect each and every person who understands that
Joakim: We're musicians! What do we know about politics? Listen to smarter people than us! Green day, Eminem, Katy Perry, Halsey and friends: No I think I will not
I mean tbf at least when it comes to green day they often straddle the line between pop rock and punk. Punk as a genre is inherently political, if a punk band didn't get political from time to time then their doing something wrong.
They mean in their overarching message, they have no political or religious agenda behind it. They tell REAL stories, and real stories have religious and political messages
"We're not politician, listen to smarter people then us" That's quite an understatement. Sabaton (or at least Joakim) is actually a pretty smart guy imho. He's the type of guy you can empty a keg of beer AND have deep philosophical talks with. AND: these days i don't trust politicians. Sorry to say this. I guess it can be summarised by: They condemn war but they glorify heroic, brave and honourable actions in those wars.
Also a lot of the Great War album glorifies soldiers and condemns war
Ah I see your a man of brain cells as well
I'm a U.S. Marine Combat Veteran, and (at the risk of sounding fanatical) I'm extremely/constantly motivated, and inspired by your work! NAILED IT!!! FUCKING NAILED IT!! Love it!! Love everything about it, and totally agree!! My fiance, and I are huge fans! We gotta come see you guys Live, and we're bringing the whole family!!! From all of us, we wish you all the best!!!
“We’ll leave politics to smarter people,” I’ve heard that’s a wink wink.
The problem is that the wise tend to question themselves rather than blurt their ignorance from the mountiantop.
I died during half of this video because I just love Joakim. And his accent. And his laugh. Basically everything about him is something I love.
Haha the accent is so Swedish, but totally cute 🙈😂
Yo helmet
Then ask him to date
Thank you for being non-religious and non-political in a world brimming with it. You guys are bad ass, I love your concerts, and Im proud you're my favorite band.
Stephen Hancock I mean the world starts to be anti-religious, I think it's a bad thing because everybody should have the rght to belive what he wants whitout pushing it down peoples throat.
@@randomhalf-mapplesiruphalf1666 I said "non-religious", not "anti-religious". They aren't pushing Athiesm by any means, although, members of the band have stated they are Athiest. The band portrays Christianity in a very positive light. In my opinion, due to the historical figures they cover, and what they believed in.
@@BlackEpyon They aren't trashing Christianity are they? That's what I said, and you could say that war is also a plot device.
@@stephenhancock1578 They actually do trash Christianity, though indirectly, in "A Lifetime of War."
"Religion and greed cause millions to bleed."
There have been many conflicts since the Protestant Reformation, all the way up to the Irish "Troubles" in the 1970's, where the battle lines between the ostensibly "political" forces could be distinguished just as clearly by the simple difference of which sect of Christianity they profess.
I love how all the people behind famous metal bands, you expect them to be these hardcore guys and then then you see these interviews where they are just really nice friendly and likeably people
*Is Sabaton Christian metal?*
Joakim: Nope
Joakim's song: FOR THE GRACE, FOR THE MIGHT OF OUR LORD!
I can kinda see how someone might get the impression.
ThejollyFrenchman have you heard the begginins of Sabaton? really, different vibe
To be fair, they sing about historical events.. the majority of history revolves around religion; whether they are religious or not, the history is. So they sing about it
@@MsPandacakes I know, I'm not saying that they're religious, just that someone who doesn't know them could be fooled by a few of the songs into thinking that they're Christian metal.
Gotta Mitt Uns
Also joakim’s song: BURN YOUR CROSSES AND MAKE WAY FOR YOURSELVES!

I was thinking either Metal Machine or Panzerkampf. If he sings any more songs about Tanks, he's going to become one! 🤘😁🍺
I would've said Swedish Pagans (due to the big running joke)
Yep same here
I might say To Hell And Back or Midway or Far From The Fame.

THE LION FROM THE NORTH OF COURSE

-Does Sabaton use autotune?
Joakim: No. Because were actually good at music.

that perfect, dry "no. why?" answer to the "does sabaton use autotune?" question is just a big smack in allmost every modern pop artists face :D
I met this guy, hung out with him and a few fans for about 20 minutes after a show. This dude is super nice, and cool AF. :)

Joakim says exactly why sabaton has some of my favorite artists out there right now.
You don't know politics, you don't know science. Having an opinion is fine but don't preach like your some savant.
Stick to what you know
Amen to that ;)
Yes I don’t wanna hear oh my god this movie has one semi homophobic joke that was only for comedic purposes and not to offend or
Forced representation or force opinions on other people anyways I agree
They might know science since some of them have STEM degrees and maybe politics since everyone is involved in it in a democracy or representative democracy in a republic. Thus needing for participation. Whether They are experts or at least any decent, you be the judge.
"Does Sabaton have a bus dedicated to spare pants for Joakim?"
Yea ever since Bismarck this man has been known to beat his leg mercilessly for some reason

"We're Musicians. What do we know about politics? Listen to smarter people than us."
Welp, you heard it here first, folks.
I wonder if this man is aware of how much joy he has spread in the world
I barely know a few things about Sabaton and i already love this man's answers and witty sense of humor
If only more celebrities would follow Joakim's "We're musicians. What do we know about politics?" philosophy.
This is one of the best interviews I've seen, you should do this with more bands and different band members 😀😎
"none of us can buy a Ferrari"
*HAS TWO GODAMN TANKS*
Amen!
They forgot the most important question." How does he take care of his knees ?"
I agree with you Joakim! Sabaton is an Excelent Band!!! 🤘😎🤘

But Green Day is awesome
Don't forget Rage Against the Machine
Well, Green Day seems to be more satirical about it, but that's just me.
Also, WHAT IS THAT PFP?!
I mean tbf at least when it comes to green day they often straddle the line between pop rock and punk. Punk as a genre is inherently political, if a punk band didn't get political from time to time then their doing something wrong.
