Yep, tissues. The band members are the ones with long hair, apart from lead singer, Joakim! The Czech film crew did a fantastic job. Sabaton do lots of war themed songs, with research, showing the humanity, they have their own History channel too.
The saddest thing is that the officers in high command on either side quickly caught wind of this and moved to suppress it from happening again. Entire units were split up, reassigned to a different section on the front, or worse. RIP to those who did not grow old and merry Christmas.
I believe the English/ British offices threatened if it happened again, the soldiers would be charged with Fraternising with the Enemy , maybe even Desertion, etc, but end result they were death penalty charges…
Powerful Story performed by Sabaton...and that ending... When I heard this song for the first time, I tried to hold my tears back, but when Floor started to sing at the end, I just broke... Heavy Christmas Jynger 🤘🎅🤘. NWSU.
This truce wasn't authorized by the military command on both sides in fact it was a spontaneous act where the German soldiers took the initiative. And after the truce many soldiers refused to keep fighting and it was anything but popular by their leaders and on both sides some even got executed for not folllowing orders.
Sabaton is from Sweden, formed in 1999. Most of thei songs are about Military History. Lead singer Jaokim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom are the primary sngwriters and the only original members left. Chris Rorland and Tommy Johansson on guitar and drummer Hannes Van Dahl complete the current line up. Hannes is the tall blonde soldier that is first out of the trenches, and is married to Floor Jansen. Yes , that is her on the end credit vocals. This story really happened in WWI . For more info on the stories, all of their songs have an episode on the Sabaton History channel. For more from them try: Ghost Division, Soldier of Heaven, Uprising, 40:1, The Unkillable Soldier, Primo Victoria. And the animated story videos, with Yarnhub, for No Bullets Fly, Night Witches, The Red Baron, and Lady of the Dark
I went down late in the day on the 24th, struck in the engine I could not press on. My crate nosed over into shell hole, I came to much later. I could do nothing but hide, the madness of no-mans land reigns terror on those caught in it. Darkness fell, and an eternity lay before me as I plotted my way out. But something happened that night, a soul deafening silence fell upon the front, followed soon by a single voice in song. Not believing what I was hearing, I peered over the mangled wings covering my hole. I saw a single man, standing above the trenches, hands behind his back, singing as though his humanity depended on it. It filled me with a chill the night and snow could not give. Then more of his comrades stood to join him, and they walked onward, slowly and un-armed. I heard a heavy Scottish voice say; "Are ye a'right lad?". A highlander with his pipes was standing aside my hole, his hand extended. Without a thought, I responded: "Shaken, but not dead." "It's Christmas, Lad. C'mon." I stood, and took his hand for help from the hole. Around me I saw what could be described as a wonderous occasion. Men of all sides stood in the desolation, talking in what tongues they knew as though there was no war. There was no hate, no blood, no malice, only cordial respect and humanity. I wondered then, what we were fighting these men for. It struck me then, that each of us had a job to do, but tonight we all refused to do that job and simply be human. The voices rose again in song, and the piper played as we walked to the gathering. I couldn't help but feel that there was hope for us afterall, that we are all the same, no matter our uniforms, our rifles, or our futures. Tonight is Christmas, tonight we sing. -Manfred von Schreiber.
I'm from Sweden and this band makes me really proud of being Swedish but what makes me more proud and happy is to see how many people there are from other nations that appreciate them aswell and can come together and feel, share what we think and show emotions ❤ Have a fantastic day/evening/night 🙏🤘
I was keeping it together until I saw you go! Such a powerful, emotive performance from Sabaton, highlighting the madness of war. I think you will enjoy Sabaton. All their compositions are retelling of historic events, mostly from the wars. They also have their own history channel ( www.youtube.com/@SabatonHistory ) which I feel is important, what with the current trend to rewrite and erase our history, increasing the chances of us making the same mistakes again. 'Lest we forget'. As has already been pointed out, there is a strong connection with Nightwish, as Sabaton's drummer, Hannes Van Dahl, is married to Floor. Floor also sings over the end credits of this song. Furthermore, Tommy Johansen, Sabaton's lead guitarist, has played on, and helped produce and arrange some of Floor's solo cover songs. Tommy is Sabaton's equivalent of Nightwish's Troy Donockley in that he's a musical virtuoso. He plays guitar, keyboards, drums, and also arranges and produces. Oh, and he can sing a bit, too! ;-) Here's his tribute to one of his heroes, the late, great Gary Moore. It's the classic 'Empty Rooms'. ruclips.net/video/5qkQwnJdgpo/видео.html Hope you have a lovely Christmas, and fun New Year.
Thanks! It is a great song, with Floor putting the icing on the cake at the end. For more Sabaton, I recommend “No Bullets Fly” and “Night Witches”. In both cases, I recommend the animated story music videos. They tell the basics of the story along with the music
One of the most powerful events highlighting the humanity of man even in the most horrible circumstances, told in a epic song by Sabaton. Merry Christmas.
This is the very best way to end a wonderful week, Jynger! I loved it, so thank you so much for this whole week and today's reaction is the cherry on the cake! What a song and what a video!...a short movie it is, with a main role for drummer Hannes van Dahl (Floor's hubby). Floor's voice also came by during the credits. Floor does background voices on several Sabaton albums. They have a very short line to her... The Christmas Truce happened in 1914 in Ypres, Belgium, where the front line of WOI was during the whole war and hardly moved. It was also the place where they started with chemical warfare in 1915. That whole area is a horrible evidence of the insanity of war. Ypres is a 3 hour drive for me. Last June I was there and I visited the actual site of the Christmas Truce. Very impressive and I think Sabaton totally captured the essence of it in their epic video.
Thank you so much my friend! I hope you and the family are having a wonderful Christmas!! Yep I have added this to my list of places to visit. It is a long list lol!
Lovely reaction. Well I guess many allready told you to react to Sabaton "En livstid i krig" live from Gothenburg. The song is in Swedish but don`t worry. It has English subtitles. It´s a beautiful performance:) Merry Christmas from ice cold Sweden:)
Lol I should've known when I suggested this one on Floor and Marko's Ave Maria reaction that this was already on this week's list. I still 100% recommend Tommy though (He was the huge babyfaced one with the fake mustache who threw the grenade in the intro). Tommy's Advent Calendar is now complete but overall he's got about 26 Christmas songs on his own channel and about 50 non-Christmas song covers as well. And he fronts Majestica which did a whole powermetal Christmas Album a while back, extended version has 10 songs mostly centered around the story of Scrooge. As for more Sabaton, some videos have animated story parts done with the music by Yarn Hub that REALLY lay out and illustrate the story for a few songs, like No Bullets Fly and Night Witches. Highly recommend those versions over just the standard music videos (but keep the tissues handy, they're touching stories, especially the animated No Bullets Fly video)
@@rpgp6065 Merry Christmas to you too. And yeah, can definitely save Tommy's 26 Christmas covers/Majestica's 10 for next year, and Tommy will probably have even MORE next year to share as well. It'll still be fun to go down the other non-xmas songs though.
Hi Jynger, heart wrenching story, great song! I'm a fan of their music, but I am also always ambivalent when Sabaton songs come up. Sabaton doesn't take sides, emphasizes the human side of things and doesn't glorify the violence and gore that goes with war, but the line is thin and some of those listening may take a different stance than the band does. Merry Christmas to you, and to everyone! 🖤🤘🏻 from Germany
Sabaton is a bit like Nightwish in one respect - if they want you to feel something, you will whether you want to or not. You just can't help it. The power of the music is simply overwhelming.
5:26 Hey Jynger! Happy Christmas 🎄🪅🎊🎄🌟 It’s a very poignant song, as most of Sabaton’s are, sets your mind thinking of the futileness of War! It’s so sad that people on the opposing sides can forget about the fighting for a day only 😢😢😢 Like your reaction as always your face says it all 💖💕💖
Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful piece of art with everyone. Sabaton is an amazing band and they put on an incredible live show. Saw them back in October with Epica and that was incredible. The whole venue was singing at the top of the lungs the chorus where the instruments drop away. Most Sabaton songs are about military history, told from the perspective of the common soldier, sailor, or airman. In this song they have perfectly captured not only the actual event but also the sense of brotherhood that I and all that have served feel for each other. As a veteran a totally connect to this song emotionally and if my eyes aren't leaking by the end then when Floor's soaring vocals come in I definitely loose it. Again thanks for sharing and for all those on watch around the world protecting us from evil know that you are in a hearts and thoughts.
Welcome to the Sabaton family - if I might suggest another two? "No Bullets Fly" (the 8:49 long version w/Yarnhub) is the story of valor and mercy - while "Night Witches" (the longer version w/Yarnhub) is about female Russian pilots during WWII.
There are a couple of other songs in the States that are similar to this one: 1) Belleau Wood by Garth Brooks 2) Snoopy and the Red Baron (based on the comic book series by Charles Schultz) Both songs are excellent Christmas songs, as this one is. It is a lesson of history we should never forget, that even in the darkest of times, whether in the air (see: No Bullets Fly by Sabaton), or in the trenches, that as long as even one person holds onto hope, then the darkness can never overtake the light. That even in the most hellish of warzones, all it takes is one soldier to put down his rifle on Christmas and say, "Today....today is Christmas. Today I am not fighting. Today, shall be a day of peace." Lest we forget. And to all those who read this, no matter where you are or what you believe, I very joyfully wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Cheers from America!
This is such a great song, and the topic is more relevant than ever. The most unbelievable thing is - that after the Christmas Truce in 1914 - politicians from all over the world agreed on forbidding such events during war times. And this is still a fact!!! Talk about stupidity!! Great reaction from you 👍 🤘 🤘
Great song to do for Christmas Jynger. I consider Sabaton the Metal History Band. They research all their songs for historical accuracy. They even have their own RUclips history channel.
Hey Jinger the song Chrismas. TRUCE BAST ON THE CHRISMAS TRUCE BETWEEN THE BRITISH AND THE German Armee on the Chrismas Night from the December 24th to December 25 1914 in .WW1.
Sabaton songs are more like a war history lesson of unknown or forgotten events. No bullets fly has the daughter and a interview with the two pilots at the end, and with bismark the fob watch shown towards the beginning has a link to one of the survivors? Lady of the dark is another powerful one when you delve into the history of her.
Would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that band meeting. "We need something special for the outro." Hans "I think I got something" Hans calls home "hey hun, you busy?"
Great song and great reaction as ever! Merry Christmas to you, thanks for the Nightwish journey so far. Hope the year ends well for you and next year brings you all your hoping for

Strepitosa la frase scritta sulla croce. Però, purtroppo, non solo abbiamo dimenticato quelle atrocità, ma continuiamo a commettere crimini efferati contro l'umanità dimenticando che siamo veramente tutti fratelli.
a list of videos for you Animated STORY videos (short Animated history then Animated music then end to history) No bullets fly Night witches Lady of the dark Red Baron EPIC official videos (not the lyric videos) Bismark Uprising Defence of Moscow steel commander unkillable soldier (the acting deliberately simulates "plot armour" in videogames/movies but he was really hurt MORE in reality) price of a mile To hell and back (about drug addiction and PTSD in soldiers returning from battle, so graphic/traumatic in parts) royal guards (English) and livgardet (Swedish so subtitles recommended) in that order, both about the history behind Swedish Royal guards and the plots of the two videos are intertwined. Epic live Uprising from poland En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) 40:1 from poland Swedish pagans poland list could be loooong but

"Lest we forget". Cherish it, one and all. For every seasons and their greetings! Remember to take care of yourself, and the people you love.
The piano is based on the Carol of the Bells, which, as I learned today, has Ukrainian roots. Somehow that makes it even more relevant in these days.

Strepitosa la frase scritta sulla croce. Però, purtroppo, non solo abbiamo dimenticato quelle atrocità, ma continuiamo a commettere crimini efferati contro l'umanità dimenticando che siamo veramente tutti fratelli.
