At Last I finally get the answer to what I have always wondered about the différance between wet & dry liners. A big "Thank You" Scott for explaining it. This Bus is what I would like to find as My 2nd choice for a RV.
Interior looks fabulous, but what really made me sit upright was the exterior, it looked absolutely mint. What an eye-popper.

Liners are tiny compared to the EMD 645 ones I'm used to. 😆

They did make non turbo 92 series, our 70 something FMC fire engine had a naturally aspirated 8V92 in it.

Really nice bus - please let the owner know the American Flag he has on the door is improperly displayed it is "flying in retreat" the star field should be toward the front of the vehicle -

Flags were flown that way for a long time. The reverse image flag is relatively new compared to the age of the bus

I was thinking it would be neat if you could loop the driveway around the east side of the property back to the entrance for a road course experience but then just realized you have a neighbor on that side of the property and they probably wouldn't like the noise. Was a good thought at first. Can't wait to see video of concrete pour for shop and the eventual placement of structure. I loved the idea for a 4'ft knee wall which I guess isn't happening but that can actually be done later if more height is required inside shop.
I like that bus. Very spartan. Good luck with the pour.

Now i wonder if the smart is the gasoline or the diesel version. A drag race between the bus and an older diesel smart would be a close race!

92 rods do hit the liners in a 71series unless you grind clearance on the beam of the 92 connecting rod I have seen that before in V-71

Thanks for the description on the different liners, of particular interest is the different sized port for Turbo! Just wondering when you upgrade Lenny to have a Turbo if you will put new liners in with the smaller ports or not? Cheers Drew
I have a Smart Diesel. Wife don’t like it. We carry dogs and in a pinch they would not fit in that car 🚗 . I like them myself. Love the interior. Clean
..former ATC...so that would mean that no matter what you find on his bus while working on it, he will remain calm - cool - and collected....
Scott- You need a Mooshimeter Wireless Multimeter. Then you can use your smartphone to wirelessly read current and voltage in the engine compartment while riding inside!! They are so cool. And it logs to an sd card up to 6 months!! No more 20 foot extension leads!

Hi Scott, I have always been intrigued by the difference in the 8V71 and 6V92 (TA,TTA &DDC). My millions of kms driving both series in Australia tells me the 92 has better torque (pulling power up hills) and the 71 has better acceleration. Is this all to do with swept capacity?
I seen a 1975 mci Detroit I think it was a 92 but the starter was bad on it it seems like that would be simple fix but he was selling it for only 4000 I love the sound of Detroit engines

Here in Australia, they were used a bit, afe, Ansett freight express used them exclusively in their slimline big cab Kenworths, post their slimline 8V71 co, twin stacks and twin aircleanerson a gantry set up that looked excellent👍

Good luck with the pour. Keep it moist (sprinklers etc.) continuously for one month after which time it will have attained 98% of its ultimate strength. If it dries then the hydration reaction stops as does the strength build.
ATC controller, What station or ARTCC station if he's comfortable sharing? Been to CVG and CMH ATC towers.
Changing the height of the ports is the equivalent of changing the duration of a camshaft in a 4 cycle engine :-)
Not by the published power and torque curves, which one can look up, but in terms of subjective "feel" how do the two engines that have very different bore/stroke ratios compare in driving?

Did the 360 horsepower non turbo engine have big ports even though it was a 92 series

So if they had made an inline 6-92 with big main bearings, it would have been the ultimate Detroit with the wet liners to cool more efficiently.
GM did better than that they made the 6-110 inline 2 valve, 4 valve, Roots blower, Centrifugal blower, and Turbocharged quit building them in 1959 when the 8V-71 came out
@@joemaser9122 Too heavy for a truck engine. Was a great engine for heavy equipment, marine and stationary applications. Weighed 4,000 lb w/o acc. 8v71 was about 1200 lb less than the 110, capable of more power, but less durable than the 110.
@@jamesglavich1426 GMC did put 6-110's in their trucks don't know the model number but bigger than 950,970 they added two more bars to the grill to cover the radiator
while i appreciate the extra power of a 92 i think i prefer the dry liner and my 12V71

When are you starting with bus conversions from ICE to electric? You got a little land to charge a bus. Me personally I would go with LTO cells for now even if they are a bit bulky dunno if that would work for you. Just keep an eye on the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). LTO is only cheaper in the long run and if they keep good for 30 to 50 years. Haven't looked at the chemistry shelflife yet but they can do more cycles than other batteries and are usabe down to -50°C.

So what dose it take to get power out of the motors ? Like how far can you go with them .
In-line 671 is usually around 238hp the boat i worked on had 450hp same block. TBI You have some ability to add hp
twin 8v71t @ 325 hp each with 1000 gallons doing 8 knots ( 10 miles per hour roughly ) will get 1500 nautical miles. land the mileage is better but for a boat that is average. crank the throttle up high and that same 1000 gallons will get you 500 nautical miles.
amazingly, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, 4 cylinder to 24 cylinder, with no exception for brand name engine, the distance per tank doesn't really change. not with boats.
There is 1 brand of boat ( Bering Yachts ) that make steel trawlers, their 65 footer has far better distance. If I remember right 3000 gallons can get you 15,000 nautical miles, but you are crawling along at 4.5 knots which is basically same speed as a sailboat on average. twin cummins with all the latest evilness def/dpf/electronics included being their usual engines.

Is it possible to put 92 series pistons in a 71? With machine the block and sleeves? Make the sleeve slightly smaller, and the block bore larger?!?! Or is there enough room? Does anyone ever port the sleeves? And heads? Larger valves? Maybe remove or narrow the webbing of every other port in the sleeves?
I'd like to get a smaller Detroit, 453 or so, I was thinking about trying to find a 4bt Cummins, and compound turbo it, run a th400, with a gear vendor od/ud aux gear box, put it in a 1/2 ton Chevy/GMC with 373 gear and 33" tires, hopefully the gearing would work out, with the ability to split the gears, similar to a 2speed diff, 1st, 1hi, 2nd, 2hi ,3rd, over drive, it may need a 3.42 or maybe a 4.10 gear, I'm not sure the ratios in the trans, but I'd rather have a 4speed manual with gear vendor, it can act as a 5speed, or as an 8speed, even 212cid compound turbo 4-53 should run decent with 8speeds in a 6k lb truck, running about 30-50 psi boost, I heard the 53's rev a little higher, can they do 3k rpm safely?
I was told a Detroit diesel needed a turbo or a super charger, was I lied to?
What you call a Supercharger yes but it’s just a blower. Nothing super about it on a 2 stroke. Without it it won’t run. Turbo just makes it better.
What does a 671 put out for hp
Most buses 200-275 with 238 being a standard but many boats are setup 450+

I would expect to get lower mileage on the 92 than the 71 though.
all else being the same, the higher capacity of the 92 would have a bit more fuel per cycle so your mileage would drop a bit.
if you drive it the same speed there should be no difference, except maybe at idle.
@@uliwehner with 2.1 litres difference in volume per cylinder I would be shocked at their fuel consumption being the same, just isn't a logical conclusion. Even if it's just .05% more fuel per cycle in the 92, that would slowly add up to less distance for the same fuel load. If they are getting identical fuel consumption then the extra capacity of the 92 isn't being fully utilized.
@@jaquigreenlees if it burns more fuel it makes more power and goes faster. At the same speed it needs the same power, same amount of fuel.... possibly it can have longer gears and run at lower rpm. Lower rpm means lower specific fuel consumption. Let's call it even.
I tend to get better fuel economy with a larger more powerful engine- probably because my foot isnt constantly glued to the floor
No o-rings at the top of a 92. Two o-rings below the ports.

Beautiful bus,the only thing I'd do different is not have a lockable fuel cap,I'd rather the fuel got stolen than have my tank wrecked.
