    You said not to extend your arms when moving to the blocking place but you did it at your presentation. I think the extended arms are pretty natural.

      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад +33

      +keybarbarosa Very good comment, the only thing is that when you teach young kids to use their arms you also add the fact that they will be moving a lot and won't be stable. We really want to make sure that you are stable before you learn to swing block with your arms, but yes if you can master it, definitely use your arms

    I've tried this but myself being 5'6" and my first time playing this year it's harder to help block both side hitters. Do you have any tips for a middle. I played great for my first year but it was kinda crazy on the beginning.

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  9 лет назад +45

      +strawhelyperfectx If you are shorter, really work on your reading. That means, get better at reading the setter and knowing where the ball will be set. Work on your eye sequence...in order, look at 1. The pass 2. The setter 3. The ball 4. The hitter 5. The ball....When you master the reading part, you will move very well at the net and will be there where you need to be. Once you improve your jumping, your blocking will be great.
      Keep it up! Volleyball is awesome...have fun!

    • @roosjen
      @roosjen 7 лет назад +13

      Don't let your size get you down. I'm 2 meters tall and have had to play as middle blocker, but my issue was I was always too late to block the side hitters. I've seen plenty of shorter people block way better because of various combinations of 1) better reading, 2) better reflexes, 3) more explosive movement or 4) simply jumping higher than me.

The problem i'm having though is that i'm pretty short so i'm having a problem blocking the other teams middle players. So what is a exercise i can do to increase the height of my jump?

    • @JumpVolleyball

      +Milos Miljkovic In order to read better, you have to block more in real game situations. Practice looking at different things and you will learn where to look to get the faster read. I can give you the answer but it wouldn't be much fun so here is what I suggest you practice:
      - look at the ball
      - look at the setter's hands
      - look at the setter's body
      Try those different things when blocking and see how fast you rect in each case. You will find the best way to do it!!

    Heya just wondering on the angles of the hands when blocking. I've heard two different things, some say angle it around the ball so both hands/arms are pointed a little inwards; I've also heard others say angle them towards the middle of the court. To me I feel like the second way would be a better way of deflecting it into the court rather than out, what's your opinion??
    Thanks in advance. :D

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад +1

      +Joface333 Thanks for you comment. It depends a little where you are blocking from in the sense that if you are blocking from position 4 or position 2, you want to angle your outside hand towards the court. Otherwise if your hand is hit, then it might go outside and you will get tooled, and you don't want that happening. In your case, where do you block from most of the time?

    • @Joface333
      @Joface333 8 лет назад +1

      +Jump Volleyball started playing middle blocker rescently, so blocking has gotten more important.

      Looking at high level volleyball games could help you see what those players at the highest levels are doing. It is really important to get those hands over the net as fast as possible. If you look at David Smith for the USA volleyball team, he does it really well.

      +Jump Volleyball I jump somewhat like you, except not straight up, I'm still working on that. I play football and basketball, meaning I'm typically going to jump up and forward. In volleyball this will result in me touching the net.

    • @JumpVolleyball

      A common mistake when blocking is taking the first step away from the net. That results in the second step coming back towards the net to compensate and actually falling into the net. Try to keep your swing parallel to the net and you can reduce the movement in your arms to help you.
      No problem, don't hesitate if you have other questions

      If your hands go over, you can block. All you need is your hand to be close to the net and be solid. Taller players will bring the ball down and you will be there waiting for them!! Small player blocks are the best....and the most annoying for tall players ;-)

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад +31

      +Kuche Drush Hello to everyone in Bulgaria, I have been there to play before, I think it was in Bansko, nice place!
      The only trick I can give you for not touching the net is to not swing your arms down. Some players jump and try to reach very high before they push the hands over the net and in doing so, they bring the arms down and touch the net. The trick is to put the hands over the net as soon as they clear the tape. That means that you will push over the net as you are skill getting up in the air. On your way down, make sure to pull your arms by your side by bending the elbows.
      But really, in practice, do 10 pushups or 10 dives every time you touch the net. Hold yourself accountable for touching the net and give yourself a small punishment. Get rid of this habit...you control it!!

    I noticed your feet went over the center line, under the net, as u were in the air and then land over the center line...I thought that was a violation!?

      +Chris Trout The center line, in the example (not the slow step-by-step example), was the yellow line I think. So, it wouldn't have been a violation.

      +Chris Trout Great observation but remember that you are allowed to step on the center line with your foot but that your foot cannot be completely on the opponent's side. Does that answer your question?

      But blocking means penetrating over the block... unless you're soft blocking. how else does he expect you to block the ball onto your opponents court? Does your coach even play volleyball?

    • @carlitos220
      @carlitos220 9 лет назад +2

      +K-min Lim I guess he means like you can't go over the net until the ball reaches the net line. for example if the apossing setter sets tight you can't block the set until the ball is above the net line

    • @thekminlim
      @thekminlim 9 лет назад +1

      Oh ok yea that's correct. I thought you were saying he said not to penetrate at all

      @volleyballvideos6426 9 лет назад +2

      Or if you are back row, you can't block, (you have to wait for the ball to drop below the top off the net on your side if you are inside of the ten foot line before you can touch it), but I'm not sure if you are referring to this situation.

    • @JumpVolleyball

      +carlitos220 Absolutely, just like K-min Lim said, you have to put your hands over the net if you want to block the ball but your coach is right in saying that you are not allowed to do that before the third contact. As a matter of fact, the rules of volleyball state that you can only touch the third contact of the opposite team on their side of the net.
      So stay discipline on tight passes but press hard over the net on hits and block as many balls as you can...best feeling ever!!
