  • How do you serve? Have you ever tried the jump float? If not, then why not?
    I believe it is never too early to introduce the jump float. It is a great way to explore serving and to learn about the mechanics of volleyball. The pros do it. Here is how you can do it too!!
    Thanks to Rudy Verhoeff for doing the demo!!

      Ikr, a lot of people who got interested in volleyball before knowing about Haikyuu dislike the anime fans for getting into it because of Haikyuu, but I'm quite happy that more people are getting into volleyball because of an anime.

    is there anything i could practise with a volleyball at home?

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  9 лет назад +48

      +Alaggs Thanks for your comment and question. You know what? I've wanted to make a video on exercises to do at home for a while now but just haven't gotten to it. I will take a note on this and make one for sure but for now, I can suggest you lay down on your bed and set the ball over your head for as long as you can, until your shoulders feel like they want to fall off.
      Also, what I used to do when I was a young player is I would pack pillows on my bed against the wall, then I would go on my knees in front of my bed and I would hit balls right in the pillows. I would practice my arm swing like that but above all, I would practice my wrist action when rolling and spinning the ball.
      Try those two and I will make a video for you in the coming weeks. Good luck

    Can you show how to contact the ball to make it not only float but swerve around sharply? Also I play beach, so I'd also want to know how to do the short jump float that drops all of a sudden.

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад +1

      +Trevor Jung Thanks for your comment, we will incorporate how to serve short serves in our next Jump Volleyball Video Series :)

    • @benwhite4011
      @benwhite4011 7 лет назад

      Trevor Jung the direction that the ball floats in depends on where you place the bladder when you contact. face the bladder straight down to make it die. my favourite is facing straight forward, makes for really unpredictable wobbles and often gets a slow down and then shoot forward kind of a path.

    Why is the jump float better than a standing float?

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад +17

      +xander balemans It makes the serve more aggressive because you can have a descending trajectory on it...also, if you are able to jump into the ball, you are using your momentum to get faster to your position

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  7 лет назад

      Rudy likes to serve from 5 to 5. I believe this is where the serve was going in this example. For a float serve, it's all about hand positioning during contact that will determine where the serve is going so you can send it wherever you want.

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад

      +Elain Fei I would love to but can you be more precise? Are you talking about the video on the hitting motion mistakes?

    • @elainfei5163
      @elainfei5163 8 лет назад

      oh no it was a response you had to someone about practicing at home haha It's about practicing our wrist movement when at home? Is it a simple snap down of your hand?

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  8 лет назад

      Yes, it is the motion of snapping the hand down at the moment of the contact. You relax your hand and snap it at contact. It takes time to get the proper feeling on the ball but it will make a big difference in your game.

    • @elainfei5163
      @elainfei5163 8 лет назад

    • @JumpVolleyball

      Haha, I get how that could make sense to some people but I prefer thinking of it as a snapping motion as the hand rolls over the ball. Keep it up!!

    Im really bad at float serving on the groud. Somehow, I can pull off a great jump float serve although I cant make the ball float when serving on a floor. Is this common? Like can we just skip to jump float service without having to know how to pull off a proper ground float serve??

      Don't snap your wrist or don't follow through with the arm. Make sure to perfectly contact the ball with the palm perpendicular to the ball.
      Other than that, float serves aren't naturally meant to be a serve of brute force but instead, of stillness and control.
