    "I forgive you" actually is more-or-less Ella giving step mom the finger. Ella doesn't intend it as such, cuz yeah, she's a bigger person.
    But step mom's ultimate goal was to break Cinderella's spirit out of spite; make her mean and bitter too. "I forgive you" just cements for her, that she FAILED. Cinderella is still as kind and hopeful as ever & is STILL a better person than her; and she's moving on to be the happier person too.

    I'm so happy that you understood the message of Cinderella. Most people say she's weak and is a bad example for little girls, but I think she's one of the most strong princess, cause even though she had a very miserable life and was abused, she remained kind, brave, optimistc and faithful to her beliefs. She is indeed a great example, not only for little girls, but to everyone, and that is why she's my favorite princess.

      @relaxingheaven 2 года назад +17

      Its good to be kind, but kindness doesn't mean you keep letting people treat you with such disrespect/abuse. What happened to boundaries? It's not healthy to keep "turning the other cheek" either. I don't think its a healthy example for anyone, let alone kids. This situation can easily translate to real life i.e. a school bully. So little kids should keep being punching bags cause they've been told to be kind? No, I don't think so. Kindness should be reserved for those who don't abuse you and are kind in return.

    • @thatsroughbuddy_
      @thatsroughbuddy_ 2 года назад +109

      @@relaxingheaven you have to see Cinderella's context. She's a girl in the 19th century... I see a lot of people saying she should just leave to escape the abuse after saying a few things to her stepmother and sisters, but.. she can't. How is she supposed to survive in a time where woman couldn't do nothing without their parents or husband? also, that was the house of her family for generations, of course she wouldn't leave. She had reasons to stay there and endure the abuse. She fought with everything she could, and when the opportunity to scape presented itself, she didn't hesitate a second to take it. So no, I don't think Cinderella is a example of tolerating her abusers because of kindness, she's actually a true fighter, one of the biggest of all disney, but people disdain of her just because she never were mean, or actually fought with her body or weapons. When in fact she used the greatest weapon this world has: HOPE.

    24:56 Cinderellas father wasn't dead in the Original fairytale but just doesn't do anything against the mistreatment of his daughter. The Stepsisters also actually get "punished". Cinderellas birds pick out their eyes. The original versions are definitely more brutal than the Disney versions.

    23:40 i think i read somewhere like a list of fun facts from the behind-the-scenes was that they actually had trouble with the prince's horse riding pants bc it really emphasized what he had going on. so i think the actor had to wear like a dancer's belt in most of his scenes to help tuck it away.
    i think this and Maleficent are my favorite of the live-action remakes, bc this one added some plot elements here and there to make it interesting but it also didn't butcher what made the original disney animated film so magical.

    I always loved that the prince curls up to the king as he dies. It is like you finally get to see an actual father and son not just a king and prince. You finally get to see that a grown man can be just as emotional as a woman when someone they love dies. The prince was not made of emotionless steel in that moment. He was just a little boy who lost is dad.

    Glass slipper: Cinderella
    Apple: Snow White
    Eternal sleep: Sleeping Beauty (or Maleficent as she is the villain in the original version of Sleeping Beauty from Disney)
    These are the Disney versions at least, the original stories from Grimm are usually different and quite a lot darker and creepier.

    In earlier versions of the story, Cinderella's dad didn't actually die. He was there for all of the abuse and never stopped it. He didn't even recognise his own daughter at the ball. Also, the step sisters had their eyes pecked out by birds, and once Cinderella was made queen, she made her step mother dance on hot coals until she died.

    9:06 Yeah, they didn't give Ella any blankets at night to keep warm. In some versions of the story, she fell asleep by the fireplace after or while cleaning out the ashes and cinders from it, because she was so exhausted from slaving away for her evil stepmother and stepsisters all day. In others, her sleeping space was simply right next to the fire because fireplaces are pretty messy and older households tried to keep clothes and stuff away from it so they wouldn't get blackened with soot and ash, and so they wouldn't smell like smoke, and when it died out in the night, the ashes and cinders got on her.
    That's how she got the name "Cinder"ella.

    I’m so happy to see you watch this movie! I’m never certain if this one or the Brandy Cinderella is my favorite. Depends on the day. This one is my feel good movie, tho. I love that it has no time for cynicism and pessimism. It is sincerely wholesome and makes Cinderella’s kindness out to be a strength rather than subservience. Lily James (Cinderella) is such a beautiful and talented actress. To be able to walk that line between a grounded performance and the fantasy of fairy tale without coming off fake or over the top is a skill and she did it flawlessly. And that dress is movie magic on its own.

    I'm so unbelievably happy that you finally watched this movie! I love it with a passion because my mom had always called me her Cinderella because of my gentle nature and kind heart-- especially as a child, just willing to trust and love everybody. It's no wonder I'd felt a connection to every Cinderella story adaptation growing up such as A Cinderella Story(with Hilary Duff), Ever After(with Drew Barrymore), Ella Enchanted(with Anne Hathaway), etc. but I'd never felt her struggle until I started my first job after high school. It was at a local daycare and I was hired as a teachers aid...but in only a matter of three months, they had refused to use my real name, avoided me or ignored me whenever I was in their classrooms, didn't respect my knowledge of childcare even though I'd been voluteering with kids since I was 12, and finally I was downgraded into being a janitor to clean the center as well as cook the meals. At first, I kept an open mind and tried to make excuses for them for their actions but one day while I was singing and doing the dishes after lunch-- which was Cinderella's song from this now that I think about it OMG! The children were in a line and walking back to their class but my door was open so I glanced over and smiled at them with a small wave to reassure them that I was still there and love them dearly. One teacher walked by and noticed, quickly directing her class to look forward and walk into the classroom. I kept up a smile until the kids were out of sight and then quietly closed the door and started to sob to myself. I can still remember crying myself to sleep some nights but keeping a smile for those kids and because God had a purpose for me to be there even if I didn't know it yet(and the wait was worth it, it's just too complex to type here). Sorry for the long story but I figured it would inspire other Cinderella's out there to ''Have Courage and Be Kind''. Thanks again Billy.

    One thing that really set tris movie apart from the other remakes for me was how excited everyone was to be there. If you watch the bonus features on the DVD, everyone from the major actors, to the set and costume designers, to the musicians, and even the extras were so happy to be there and to be a part of the movie. Everyone was there trying to have a good time and make the best movie they could, and that enthusiasm really elevated this film.
