No crash bars no engian guards and you went off road in the mud with normal tires alone !!
I think its good experience
Michelin ANAKEE wild front tryer our your down MUD YES I FOUND OUT . In my opinion Anakie wild our stay on the black top : I find these tyers out standing on road aswell : my crf is the adventure sports large fuel tank : haveing a bad left foot i find the DCT very good .
@@peterwright7303 he has got metzeler karoo street , no crash bars with plastic hand bars protection ,brand new bike, everything you should not do , it is simply recipe for disaster, I thought I was a newbie , mode he has set up as user its far from ideal ,I am glad that you have such a light experience going down ,could have been much worst
and than driving in D mode , with all respect to you ,you have got no idea what you doing, this video is everything you should not do , I am embarrassed
@@voytekk4844 yes I Agree ,myself I have my Afica Twin set up with crash Bars good bash plate ,bark buster hand gards and I managed to fit up a motard exhaust cat delete that was a mission to customise bash plate brackets, even crash bar x bracket mmm intresting as the exorst is not shaped with the Adventure sports model in mind with full armer fited. By the way the center spark plug CAPS prown to FAILURE the pin snaps on inside the CAPS, (( RANDOM MISS FIRE )) IN CRF 1000L and in AUSTRALIA I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT GET CAPS HERE, WELL SAME CAPS CAN BE FOUND IN 4X4 FARM BIKE HONDA. Just wanted to share that okay as bike shops here dont share this there for I went MONTHS in and out ove workshops hi bills to a no fix then I found problem my self .YOU WOULDN'T NOW UNTILL YOU REMOVE THE INERE CAPS AND TRY UNSCRUE THE CAP FROM THE HI TENSION COIL LEADS THEN LOOK AT LEAD END AND THERES YOU SNAPED OFF CAP PIN . DCT WITH BOTTOM END MISS FIRE BAHAHAHA AND THAT FALLOW COMPLAND ABOUT HIS DCT , HAHA TRY A TERN IN A LEAN TOP MISS FIRE IN THE RAIN ( POWER FLAME OUT THEN CUTS IN ) OWA MY GOD LOOK OUT . MONTHS THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED THE BIKE ONLY HAD 1300 KILOMETRES ON CLOCK WHEN IT PICKED UP THAT MISSFIRE ( THAT THE WERST DCT PROBLE GGGRRR ,AND NAW ITS RUNNING GRAT AGAIN BUT TWO SPARK PLUG CAP COST ME THOUSANDS OVE AU DOLLERS AND I STILL LIKE THE DTC A T ADVENTURE SPORTS CRF 1000L.
He claimed he was in sports mode too
I really appreciate this video and your humility in posting it. Yes, lesson learned, but a taught lesson for so many of us watching. Thanks for uploading
This is a lesson in what NOT to do. New bike, unfamiliar, stock treads, knew it was bad time to ride there, no provisions, no cell phone ??!! people under-estimate their strength and skill to handle things. You are lucky to have gotten out. Yes, I've been there. Hard lesson.
And then blaming DCT for your poor route choices.
I agree you cant blame a bike for lack of skill of the rider ,simple
Protection for the bike cheaper than repair. Yes, the AT is heavy (I got the 2018 Standard DCT). DCT is great.....MOST of the time.. Always ride prepared for the conditions and allow extra time to get back. A personal rule of mine is I don't go off-road unless there is another rider. Once you drop the AT a few hours up a mountain road and break four ribs you'll be grateful for the hand to at least help get the bike up and turned around. I rode the bike out but had another rider in case there was an issue. Only "damage" was a scrapped up crash bar......so all in all worked like a champ. Now for crash bars for the body.......LOL...... Great bike and enjoy!
Glad you and the bike came out OK!
This is the quintessential noob Africa Twin, first time off road experience and I'm glad you posted it. I had a similar experience on single track. That beast is such a chore to turn around on single track without laying it down and dragging it around. You definately need some protection for the bike and a bit more gear and prep (water, etc). I'm thinking about creating or finding a small winch like set up (come along or such) to help me if I get stuck alone again.
Good on ya for sharing your experience! :D
I think that a good policy is to always have a friend with another bike when offroading. The possible scratches on the bike are the least problem, but there are other serious reasons why you should have someone to help you in similar cases. Thank you for the content though and congrats to your braveness
No crashbars? Why?
I've been there man.
I found the standard Karoo Street tires on my ATAS were garbage off road. They clog up really fast if you're tractoring along. I swapped to some Motoz Tractionator GPS'. It's now a totally different beast off road. Handles deep sand too. It feels counter intuitive but try to carry a bit more momentum over the sand and slush. As soon as you bog down you're sunk.
A lot of people wouldn't be brave enough to show a bad day out. Cool vid. keep it up!
Two years ago (my last drop) I went thru that same mud ordeal on my Twin, no fun. I felt for you.
Good lessons learned! Good luck!
I have a 21 ATAS in DCT. Absolutely love it but I learned 25 years ago with my first bike the KLR 650 that a big heavy bike is not meant for certain places. The problem with the AT is it’s actually extremely capable so it will totally lure you places like a devil on your shoulder who already kicked the angel off the other. It’s just completely unforgiving of errors. I actually really like the DCT off-road now that I’m used to it. I reserve riding in places like that for when I’m in a pack on the ATAS as it’s way more fun with 2-3 people to pick up these monsters.
All part of the adventure man lol
Thanks for sharing this experience. Yes you did thing that maybe you shouldn't have but you have the humility to share it and those of us with even lesser offroad experience can learn. More importantly we see you experience off-roading with a DCT bike, which is a whole 'nother proposition. I am intrigued by this bike as a long distance touring type rider who has *some* interest in mild off-roading and camping. I am not as tall as you are and am older so handling such a bike on a trail is a concern, but as I said not really interested in serious off-roading. This video, strangely enough, further convinced me to take another look at this bike. 👍👍
I have learned a lot with this bike since this video, a lot. And I am much more confident in it now. I love the bike
Great video and many lessons learned. Few years ago i sold my 2016 Honda VFR 1200X because she was extraordinarily top heavy.. Great on road but anything more than light dirt and forget about it!
there is nothing great about this video, watching it was painful, if I am wrong tell me what is great ?
I love the Africa twin but man that is a top heavy bike! I ride the NC700X instead and will soon add a CRF300l for trail riding. For me this is no fun trying to off-road on 500# plus motorcycles.
True, especially the adventure sports model with the bigger gas tank. The ‘18-19 is 1 inch taller too! I have a 2019 atas and a Crf300l 😂
I had to turn my 2021 AT ES DCT around in a tight spot as a result of a downed pine tree 🌲 on a forest road in California (also solo)…I didn’t video the actual effort (too much heavy breathing 😮💨). The bike is great for Forest roads but not single track.
I also have videos riding in the forest on my CSC TT250-much easier to explore on 💪🏻😊💯
The thing is that bike is well more than capable of riding through that water dude you should have just went for it. Even with the standard tyres
You are so real ! I love the videos ! just awesome. Mud is so pathetic after the rains ! I got thrown off in a similar situation .
I leave a comment here if it helps some one.
If you want to get a better resistances to water. Then running for an hour 3 times a week is helping. After 2-3 years you will be able to go a little bit farther with out feeling lack of water.
But it is ofc only a second line of defence to actually bringing Water. The sun is no joke.
Thanks for sharing this experience. Enjoy your ATAS
Thanks for sharing
Gonna get Outback crash bars. This has convinced me.
lol, I got the heed ones after this
Because of this video.....
I've subscribed you. You made my day.. 🤣😂
Remember, you not alone experienced this.
That looks like a fun day😂
... uuups!😱💥... you don't name it - but - I can see it in your face ... "Why did I sale my HONDA NC750X?!" 😉😳... all in all you had good luck🍀 ... no bones broken and finally out of the desaster👍... from now on you will be a 'better biker' because experience is part of the game!✌... Greetings and best wishes from Austria!🍺🍺
Don't be so hard on yourself pal
You did great
LOL. This reminds me of one of my worst stuck moment. . Sunk my front tire in a bottomless puddle. ,
Standing knee deep.. giving it all I got and just getting more stuck. Coukdnt get a good angle to swing the 500lb beast. 30minites of this. No water , 90deg day.. no phone signal. . No lie.. 2 beautiful women in horses came to my rescude😂 the youngest and prettiest one came over to help while the older and still beautifuk one held the horse.
It was a magical moment!! :)
.
Reality check on the ATAS, I had The crf1100l and the smallest roads that I was OK with were tractor-roads that was kinda packed or maybe muddy fireroads. Once fitted endurotires to it and damn that was cool, didnt last for very long on the rear. 😅 TC off was the only way to get anywhere.
this all could've been avoided with a purpose made treads. like off road wheels
As soon as he called that a “gravel” road I knew he was done.
Also, when he came to an abrupt stop in a wet spot, then sounded surprised that his 500lb bike immediately started sinking. WTF did he think was going to happen? Mo pounds means mo-mentum, my friend.
Disclaimer: I don’t drive any bikes, but I do participate as a passenger on the regular (on an AT), so I’m aware of its size and weight.
What I do drive is a fully kitted Rubicon- on some of the most ass kickingest trails across the country, and what I don’t do is leave the house without water, food, and a satellite beacon.
...the sound effects you gave with your mouth when u started falling was somewhat intriguing
This fella cracks me up lol
Needs crash bars & proper off-road tyres - at 4:47 I'm looking at that thinking that back tyre's gonna spin & dig you in deeper.
Lmao. Bro I was dying watching this.😂 You just convinced me not to get the AT. You do make some awesome videos though. See you on Desoto Dual Sport Adventure Ride next weekend.
Lol, no man. I should never taken this beast on single track 🤣
HEY YOU HAD FUN and that's all that counts.
If you had the NC frunk you could of brought water! Haha and not killed yourself lifting up the AT... go back to the NC 750 do a few upgrades
lol
She IS a dual sport for those of us who are tall, and strong, and possess ample bike handling skills.
Call it whatever you want but it is a 500+ lb bike on road biased tires in the mud.
Dual it is! :)
ruclips.net/video/uwRMspfy7ZA/видео.html
just more experience and practice and it will become a dual sport for you.👍
Hi Guys
You need warm bike recovery winch cheap as
Super easy to use ver small & no stress keep safe Cheers
6:53 Blair witch project 😂😂😂
No REVERSE? 😁
All big bikes should have reverse...
I was ROLLING! Thanks.
Commit to a course, a lot of the bits you got caught out on could have gone well with a bit of gas and balance, means getting the bike muddy, but hey you did buy an AT
I have some water, are you still there ? ;)
Great video to have been sponsored by The original LifeStraw. Could have had it in your pocket and drank right out of that puddle.
lol
this is hilarious, thanks for sharing this! this is why the market is flooded with these adv bikes xD
lol!
My gut hurts, stop it ROFL
😂 i also had the same thing happened to me in an African twin. I traded it for a cb500x
lol
.. lolll, what a workout
Proper work out dude 😂
DCT, bad tyres, boots LOL good luck...
You should have kept your trully real! Adv bike- the himalayan!
IF THERE IS GRASS ON THE ROAD/TRACK,YOU GO THROUGH THE GRASS.YOU WILL NOT STUCK
Man that's a bad deal.. But look back at the 6 minute mark I know you love your Africa twin but man come on. lmao
It mom mom mom mama 😂
Stock tires for off road no good 😢😢
100% lol
The Africa Twin is a dual sport. Unfortunately the pilot of this machine just doesn’t have the ability. Perhaps a Monkey with nobly tyres would have been a safe option for you. As this dual sport is not for the inexperienced rider.
I am exhausted from even watching it. Big adv bikes are a joke. 200 kg is total maximum you should ever take off road. And even that is a stretch.
it shames to me to see guys like this riding bikes i own
didnt get very far lol
I also had an Africa Twin… until i realized the same: that’s too heavy for off road
its is heavy true, but this man is doing everything wrong
well this is one adventure you should have UNDONE - dude you were scared of merging with a road seem. this is too much bike for you. i suggest you sell this bike and get a Honda CRF 125 big wheel.
😂, I’ll bring the huffy next time
With manual you will not drop bike
I stopped watching when you said it was in Sports mode after the first fall.
🤦
I agree lol
Dct SUCKS , man, very unpredictible, with no rear breake on left handlebar
Yep totally wrong body position and riding. Hang in there and do some skills training.
