    Thanks for the video. I had two tubes destroyed on the IDBDR. Limped into Riggins. Met two riders eating breakfast who gave me a tube. They saved me a bunch as the nearest shop was 50 miles away. They were pounding pavement at the end of their trip and only asked that I pay it forward. Great community of riders out here!

    Hey Dan, great video. I actually live not to far from you in Fayetteville. I'm headed to NMBDR in September as well. Might do it solo or hopefully my riding buddy can do it. Either way, I will be doing it. Like the fact you did yours in September. I plan on camping the whole way. Looking forward to it. If your ever in the Ozarks, give me a shout. Would love to pick your brain on the NMBDR.

      I can't imagine it would give you any trouble, with all the stuff you've been doing in MOAB. For the NMBDR I hit it just right, sand was packed and Chloride Canyon was open and passible, I hear both of things change often.

  • @hillkiran

    That's pretty cool you just up and did the NM BDR all by yourself. I kind of want someone else to do it with me. But if I can't round anyone up, I'll just do it myself.

      Most advise against solo backcountry travel... I get it. But it can certainly be done. It does add some risk to an already risky equation. Maybe I just got lucky, but I had a great time, no regrets. If I didn't have to work for a living I'd join you :)

    What a great film. You’re so lucky having all that on your doorstep. I’ve an ATAS and live in South East England, UK. Glad to stumble upon this video and glad to re-live the memories. Great job. Also glad you met those guys close to the end to help you repair your tire. I was the “gentleman” you met in Chloride/Winston. Related to that is a tip for a BDR which I didn’t follow. This was my first BDR and I had a plan for a place to camp each night and I didn’t vary from that plan. I arrived in Chloride/Winston early and I should have continued with you. In hindsight one should plan for spots to camp/stay along the entire route, if you are late and can’t make it to you goal that day or arrive early like I did. Also last tip, the “expert” route north of Abiquiu was quite hard relative to chloride canyon. There was a rock step that I couldn’t make it up. I took the bush-whack around it. Quite tough and spent 30 minutes trying (and dropping the bike). I would take the route around if I would do the BDR again.

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV  3 года назад

      You are much braver than I, doing an expert section solo on a big bike. I've had quite a few people tell me it was too risky doing the main section solo. It's so cool that you came across this video, thanks for commenting. So many great memories, I'm ready to do another BDR soon. I was behind you for a few miles, and I remember feeling relieved that we could help each other through Chloride (at the time, I thought it would be harder than it turned out), then disappointed when I found out you were stopping for the day. Thanks again for commenting, all the best... Dan

    Great video. New to adventure riding so this might be a stupid question but I have to ask: when using gpx tracks, when you come to a fork in the road how do you know which way to go? And which gps are you using? Thanks for the great video.

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV  2 года назад +1

      I assume you're referring to "tracks" vs "routes'. I use the Garmin Zumo 595... You can show a track on the map.. the map shows your position and the track... if you're zoomed in far enough its pretty easy to just stay on the line. Alternatively, you can turn your "track" into a "route" and then the gps will tell you which way to turn, how far until next turn ect... you do need to turn off route recalculation if you try the 2nd method. Hope that helps.

    Great video (and sound quality). I'd love to do the NM BDR, but really don't want to ride 600 miles to Dell. Thinking about a dual sport bike. Did you consider trailering your bike or bringing a truck? Wonder if there's somewhere to park a vehicle for a week. Or maybe in Riudosa (and making a loop). AT maybe good on the highway, but not a DS for that long.

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. A lot of people trailer to the BDR's. You should join the NMBDR Facebook group and ask if anyone knows of a place to park. There are many group members with good local knowledge, I've only done that route once and I live in Oklahoma. When I did the COBDR with my son on a 450L, we trailered to a friends in Buena Vista. That worked out well. You still add mileage by either back tracking on the trail or finding alternate routes back to the trailer.

      For sure.. these are mostly jeep trails. It would probably take longer, but very doable.

    Rim road in early spring has not Ben maintained most people don’t go out in that time of year because its in the 20s at night but I love it however rim kicked are ass I didn’t go down but I had a peg shear off that I had to fix lucky I had spare bolts but my buddy burned in like 4 times his bike was almost a right off by the time we hit weed in late afternoon he had also lost his 0 degree bag and one of his bags of clothes luckily not his warm ones that cost us another 2 hours wile I road half of rim again looking for his shit wile he waited. we where gassed from dragging his bike back upon the trail he had also broken his wrist in 2 spots and I had a hairline fracture in mine from him dropping his bike on me. we found a campground outside of weed, but I had forgotten to get fucking water at the weed store. I don’t know how we forgot that, but we set up camp still not knowing that and proceeded to have a few alcohol drinks to ease the pain. He spent the night next to the fire wrapped in a tarp trying to stay warm. I slept in my tent. We both woke up covered in ice. The temperature was in the low 20s and we were both severely dehydrated and now realizing we had no water, luckily I remembered thinking I saw a creek behind us when we came in the night before, and we to used the life straw to get water from the creek. I kept throwing it up I couldn’t keep anything down and so I had to lay in the sun and sip a liquid IV packet in a cup of water until I could walk again. We ended up pushin thru camping another 4 days but stayed in southern NM. About to set out again just me with a following support Jeep can’t wait to hit Colorado this time. Grate video keep it up!
