    I have a Honda Africa twin in the KTM 690 which bike would you choose? And why? If you did it again would you do it on the same bike? What bike would you do it on?

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV 2 дня назад

      Very tough questions... so much goes into that. If you're not doing the expert sections, and you're a fairly competent rider off road, I'd probably take the AT. But that's just because I like the comfort of the bigger bikes on the road and fast gravel sections and I have the experience to handle it in the technical stuff. The 690 would be much easier in the tough stuff. I'd do it on the 1290 again no worries... but again I didn't do the expert sections... I'd go 890 on the expert... since I don't know how difficult they are.

    What percentage of the trip was blacktop?

    • @DansADV

      Maybe 20%? But for me, since I parked a trailer in Baggs, I had alot of black top on the way back. If you buy the paper map, it differentiates between blacktop and gravel.

    I watched your NMBDR videos a few times and 3 or 4 of us plan to ride it around the first of June this year. My issue is with the Gps tracks. I am retarded as far as computers and all that goes, I have purchased the SD cards from GPS Kevin for the TAT and the CDT and I just had to pop off the back of my gps, insert the card, turn it back on and it’s all there ready to go. I reached out to the BDR people and they just said they had nothing available like that, but the tracks were free to download. I had told them I have no way of doing that, but apparently they don’t understand plain English. Any information or ideas would help. Thanks

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV 11 дней назад

      There should be some good GPS tutorials on RUclips.... This is beyond the scope of what I"m able to provide, but here's enough of a tutorial that hopefully you can find the help you need. Conceptually there are 3 or 4 ways to get the files onto your GPS. All require you to click on the GPS link from the BDR website to get the file... it's only one small file. Method 1- Like you've done with an SD card. To use that method with the BDR files you would need to download the file to your computer. Then using an SD card reader, copy the file to the SD card and then put it back into your garmin... this is by far the most difficult method. 2 - You cand download the file from the BDR website (it will appear in your downlaods folder on your computer)... connect your computer directly to your garmin with a usb cable,, it will appear as a hard drive, you can then drag and drop the file into the gpx folder on your garmin. 3 - depending on the age of your garmin, you can actually transfer the file from your phone directly to your garmin via the garmin app. Again download the file from the BDR website, by clicking on it, on your phone, then use the app to trasnfer it wirelessly. ... Again RUclips should have some tutorials that are far better than I can explain

    • @michaelladymon5143
      @michaelladymon5143 11 дней назад

      I appreciate all the information, but, I just don’t have any of that capability. All I need is the SD card with the tracks on it. Thanks for your time.

    Nice video. I'd say that if you are comfortable working on bikes then KTM is a great route to go. For some of us who are not mechanically inclined the Honda/Yamaha route seems to make the best sense. There is no perfect "do-it-all" adventure bike, just trade-offs and preferences. I keep hoping we see a Yamaha Tenere 900 show up to the party because I'd be all over that bike. Who knows, so many good choices out now for big adventure bikes that making a decision gets slightly confusing, until I look in my bank account. :) Ride safe and enjoy the rush.

I agree 100% with everything you said regarding Dusty, his crew and overall operation. It's very professional, organized and really fun!! I believe good people attract good people and Dusty and his crew are just awesome folks! I've met so many new friends from his training classes to the tour, everyone has been so fun to hang out with. I've met several of the folks for rides in Moab, Death Valley and Baja, with plenty more planned. Adventure riding in a group of riders you've never met before can create all kinds of different scenerios. I always learn something off these kinds of videos, thanks! I bought the KTM rear racks, and I got nice Wolfman bags for them.................then I tried rackless bags, and no problem. I take the rear plastic panels off and leave them off, then the rackless bags tuck in even tighter, making a narrower package. Its one way of doing it. I eliminate weight of racks, and the real chance of garfing the rear plastic bodywork. I have the Tusk rackless bags, medium and small sizes. They are pretty good, but kinda heavy . Especially the medium size. Just very beefy, maybe too beefy. the mediums came with the 690 I found used. I like that Puig clip on shield piece. My 690 can use one.

    • @DansADV
      @DansADV 4 месяца назад

      My first-hand experience is with the 2018 AT Adventure Sports, which is bigger and has way fewer features than today's Africa Twins. That said, I loved the AT. It was more comfortable and a better road bike than the 890. But for the tough off-road stuff, I don't think there's a bike out there that comes as off-road ready as the 890. The suspension and lower center of gravity makes a huge difference. It all depends on what you want to do... Either bike should do the COBDR with no issues.
