DAMO bought an Africa Twin Adventure Sports. Part camera mule, part project bike, and part dream purchase that goes back a long way. But did he make the right call?

Just an amazing video... I'm a rider and found this channel researching ADV bikes. This was so beautifully filmed, edited, and written... I actually found myself getting emotional at the end of it when you described what I bike can do for you and where it can take you. I don't have friends that ride and my wife doesn't get it, so it's wonderful to hear and see someone so eloquently deliver the message... Keep up the good work, your channel should grow profoundly. Cheers from San Diego, CA.

    Anyway
Love this one but i'm too small for this adventure bike and I sold a ktm 1290s for a 790s...less electronics, less weight, low center of gravity, more control.

I've heavily ripped on mine on and off-road or 8000 miles now, and have zero regrets other than being 5'8 doing donuts in the mud. As someone my height, it gets tough after a few hours. My biggest negative is show almost immediately around the 3 minute mark. The mud blows right up the back and all over the side of both me and the bike. As someone with a Peral white, I'd love a bit of extra flare out there to protect me and the bike a bit more, but also hasn't stopped me from having an absolute blast of road.
@ 16:50 that's why I always bring two ratchets straps that are about 10 feet a piece. Use them like a winch for either my bike or for clearly paths.

Are blind spot indicators and adaptive cruise control worth $10,000 or $15,000 dollars more? The Tiger 1200 offers blind spot and normal cruise control for $10,000 USD more, and the Ducatic Mulistrada V4 has blind spot and adaptive cruise control for $15,000 USD more. In the case of the Ducati, the V4 is amazing but the fuel economy suffers and the engine is peaky and has high frequency vibration. At price points north of $25,000 I'd be leary of banging a motorcycle around in dirt and rocks. An AT - AS at $12k USD used I'd not be afraid to batter it and enjoy electronic suspension, cruise control, ApplePlay, and a very good range along the way. Getting parts to replace bits and bobs on the Ducati would be a pain in the butt. More Honda dealers around too.

I couldn't help but notice that your Karoo 4 were a little light on the tread when you were at camp, How many miles did or would you expect out of those tires? @@Angry-Lynx Well I got rid of the AT and got a 1290 SA-R🤘. This bike is awesome on the trails even for a big bike. Just slow riding of course but handles great.

      @@BigDaveTALKS interesting choice.
I love ktms when they work and for aggressive riding. But for true adventure riding they feel like tiger behind bars just waiting to get out and attack full throttle all the time. My KTM 950 was best bike i had but it felt best as around home toy for hard and fast offroad, not for longer trips. Its just too aggressive, it need to constantly accelerate and brake it feels wrong when just cruising at 90kmh.
I currently in the market for 2016-2018 AT
And i think ill go dct. Itll be my first such new modern bike. I love that it has soft suspension, you want that in travel bike.

First video, that I see someone using apple carplay or android auto to pair the phone for NAV. How is that working for you in the bush. I have an Africa Single at the moment (CRF300 Rally) and I think bike like yours is a good contender for the upgrade.

Apple CarPlay is great when it works seamlessly but frustrating on the odd occasion it doesn’t. Overall, I think it’s an asset though and I do use it quite a lot.

Hey mate, I just found your channel probably because I keep coming back to Africa Twin, but with all of your honesty - I now ride my Aprilia Tuono v4 1100 factory 2022 and never owned an adventure bike, do you think that it would be super silly to get an Africa Twin as a first adventure bike?

Standards, liter sport bikes, Harley touring bikes and still own a Harley Electra glide ultra classic. The African twin is the best bike I have ever owned. The Harley never gets ridden anymore. T7 just didn’t cut the mustard, Triumph Rally Pro 900 didn’t fit me, KTM 890 was unforgiving & horrifically expensive to maintain, BMW, nope. As soon as I rode the AT I knew that was it for me.
