Thanks ! For the review Amanda. You're a Honda Ambassador even looking back at the miles you rack on the CBX you've been putting out positive energy in the ADV world. Honda will cut you a deal to own your dream ride. Get her done gal. 👍👍
I feel the same about my 2017 DCT. If something where to happen with it I would buy another one. The DCT was heaven going through California stop and go traffic. Great review!
After I said that I had to check it out. NO, the bike electronics will not allow you to shift into neutral when you are moving. You must be stopped. You would think after riding the bike for 14,000 miles I would know but I guess I never tried it. I still think the Africa Twin is one of the best sounding motorcycles. You don't need to rev in a tunnel, it already sounds sweet.
I love your enthusiasm for the Africa Twin. You sound just like me talking about it. I think all of my riding friends are sick of me talking about mine! I have a 2017 DCT that I wouldn't trade for anything. I think the DCT lets you concentrate on other things that allow you to really reduce the amount of fatigue you'd normally experience with a traditional manual transmission. Plus, the DCT is much quicker from a dead stop than pretty much any other bike I can think of. I ride off road as much as possible, and your comparison with a Rekluse clutch is spot on. You will never stall a DCT in a tricky situation off road. It can and will save you from dumb mistakes on and off road. Great video Amanda!
As an official old guy, I can no longer just kick a leg over the bike when mounting/dismounting. Big Rock Moto has pointed this out in a video, I put my left foot on the left peg (kick stand down) and then up and over. I've been told by others that they would never trust the stand, but what am I to do? Give up riding? Adding a top box will require a more thoughtful mount :)
Otto, a friend of mine has the same issue as you so he needs to use the foot peg to mount. He is also concerned with the added pressure on the kick stand, so he always mounts from the RIGHT side which removes most of the added weight from the stand. Been doing it for years. I've tried it and it feels weird, but you do what you need to do.
I also use the foot peg to mount and try to put my weight over the bike while doing it to minimize the force on the stand. Also, the position of the front wheel adjusts the bike’s stance before mounting.
As a short rider in the 50+ category and an inseam of less than 30 inches I stand on the footpeg to mount the Africa Twin, even loaded I trust the kickstand enough to do a kickstand pivot/turn.
I pivot turn my bike on the kick stand (kawasaki versys 650 and suzuki drz400s) with no issues. So unless your bike is known for a very weak stand/bracket then your weight won't be enough to break it.
21000km on my 2020ATASes DCT and love it! Love it! Never expected to enjoy an 1100cc scooter so much. Dirt biker for life, manual muscle car owner, mountain sledded for decades, and truly enjoy this bike so much. Three of us have DCT Africa twins. Two are Baja racers! We multi-week tour sometimes with Pillions. Awesome bike for most everything but very tight single track. Only issue I had was tank magnesium weld flake, that I resolved with Guglatech Mazinga filter kit, to maintain fuel pump reliability. Cheers Magpie, from Canada 🇨🇦 :-)
Thank you so much for this informative and helpful video. Your personal insights along with the standard specs make this video worthwhile. Your experience as a motorcyclist, your love and passion for the hobby, and your humbleness really shine through. Two wheels down, girl!
I own 2019 AT DCT and am loving it. It took a while to get used to the seat height (inseam approx.31) and the DCT, I still occasionally grab for the clutch. Oh and I'm 70 years old Otto keep riding!
I did about 15k miles on my AT ES DCT this summer, too, and I have to agree that the seat is the worst part of the bike! Otherwise, it's amazing. Glad you liked it so much, and thanks for all the great content!
Have to agree about the seat, it's a block of wood after a few hours. I had a lambs wool cover made for mine and now its like a mobile sofa. DCT is definitely a learning curve and I spend most of my time in manual mode, particularly off road and still find myself instinctually grabbing for the clutch sometimes but dragging the rear is a workable solution. I've taken it to a lot of places that many owners may not, like rocky single track and sand dunes and it's has performed OK but you can certainly feel the weight in these conditions. At the end of the day it's a true Swiss Army knife and I love it.
NOW THAT WAS AN EXCELLENT BIKE REVIEW!! JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF INTRO W/O THE BLA BLA CHIT CHAT THAT I JUST FOUND ELSE WHERE. THANK YOU. V85 TT RIDER FROM TEXAS.
Have a Africa Twin. Love the dct. Saved me several times dirt riding last summer. Got a new seat cover with foam from seat concepts in Idaho and seat heater to install with it. Should be a great spring. Maybe see u on the road this summer as I'm in Spokane and not that far away. Happy trails
I bought the first one to hit Fresno California June of 17 I love my 2016 Africa twin DCT the transmission spoiled me but I've noticed the seat is a little firm for me too I watch all your videos and thank you very much for your content safe travels
Your great, thanks for review. Got my ATAS DCT 2022 and now have to wait for 3 more month before snow melts so I can ride it. I'm looking at it every day in my garage
I have a standard Africa Twin... it's been a great bike and a little easier on the wallet as well as a few pounds lighter than the Adventure Sports. Especially if you find one lightly used with farkles already added. Nice review!
I am new to motorrad and when I saw someone riding the AT in a video on "ghost town living" I was was super excited!! but, I couldnt find your channel. I am happy that the algorithm finally popped you up on my feed!
I have the 2022 H. Africa Twin ES DCT and absolutely love it! The performance of this bike is just totally amazing. I am 6ft 1 with back problems but when I'm riding this bike, I'm not bend over but sitting upright in a comfortable position. And yes, I do agree that sometimes my android gets knock so I would have to stop and reprogram it but other than that this bike runs like a champion especially on the Hwys and long distances. I added a comfortable gel seat cushion for comfortability, and it works great. Overall, I could not imagine riding any other bike but my A.T. period.
5'9" here, And I can echo your statement completely. I ride a 2018 At DCT. The ergos are perfect, the ride just plush enough to absorb most of the ruts, dips and objects on the road. My bad back (new 2 discs in L4 and L5) rarely has a complaint about the ride.
Hey D you mentioned a Gel Seat Cushion... Did you replace the stock seat with this or is this one you put on the top of the seat??? Im considering lowering the bike and then replacing the seat with something more comfortable......... THANKS!!!
Hi Amanda from Quebec City! I have exchanged my CB500X 2015 last Friday to a demo AT Adventure DCT 2021. It’s amazing how this thing rides well on road. I’m planning to do a visit to the Baie de James (Hudson Bay area) this summer. This will be a 2000 miles drive over paved and unpaved roads. Thanks for sharing all your opinions over the bike you got last summer. I wish you an AT as soon as you can! 😊
Thanks for this! Nice to hear a DCT review from someone who rides like I do, i.e. not SUPER AGGRESSIVE ENDURO. Regarding cold weather riding, I've really been a wuss this winter so far, but I did go for a New Year's Day ride up to that viewpoint west of Crown Point. I wore the right gear and I felt fine, but when I got home I ate three bowls of hot soup and slept for three hours. 😁 Best of luck in everything!
Awesome review! I bought myself a 2022 Africa Twin DCT (red & black) back in October. I am in love with this bike. It is so easy to ride and extremely comfortable. I can't wait to take it moto-camping this spring. Ride on Amanda!😊
I love the Africa twin and its my dream bike too, I love how you connect with your machine and how everything matches up, I wish to be like you when I buy mine!
Thank you for the review. Im thinking about going to adventure bikes after 14 years of only +170hp sportbikes. This review just confirmed my thoughts on this bike. Best wishes from Helsinki, Finland 👍
Seriously a Great review! so many ride a bike for a couple hundred miles be it an adventure bike, dual sport, or touring. Then give this ALL KNOWING review. 10,000 miles then the review with pros and cons and your dream bike!! Great job! Wishing you the best in 2023. ps: HONDA AMERICA give this bike to Amanda, she rides, and is SO DESERVING!!
I hope you end up with that bike. It's a terrific addition to your stable and you have done a great job showing it off for Honda. I would be so nice if they decided you need to keep showing it. Good luck. 🐞
That was a great video. You answered so many questions just by being honest and calling it the way you see it. I am an old man new rider. The height of the bike was intimidating to me. As you pointed out, a lot of advantages to a tall bike, ground clearance, riding comfort . I think I can. Wes
Great video Amanda , get down to Honda America, I’m sure they could do you a great deal on that African Twin . Just treat yourself as life is too short & tomorrow is promised to know one hope your dream comes true .
Hello Beautiful motorcyclist😊What a Great Review👍.. I like to say as the bike moves you, You move the bike.. It was very evident of your demeanor, and Smiles that this bike did just that… Cheers to you always. Be safe out there, and keep that Rubber Side Up👍👍
Love the review. The one thing that I really really could relate to. I had a bunch of bikes in the past 8 years when I got back into riding. Started with. Honda 250 L then a Husky 449 to adventure bikes with an KLR. I then upgraded to a 2015 BMW 800 GS. That was a great bike. From there I went to my 2017 AT. The biggest difference from the BMW to the AT was after 300 plus miles I was not as tired riding the AT as I was on the GS. They felt the same on the dirt but on the highway the AT was soooo much better
Great Review! My wife and I just saw your video on you riding across America on your Honda 500. That was a fantastic video. BTW you just sold me on the bike! Hopefully, Honda will give you a good deal!
Much Kudos for posting the link upon the infotainment! That is a something, that you should be told of at the dealers from the scratch. Found much fun to play it. Thank you. Ride safe!
I've known about the Africa Twin, I've heard things about the Africa Twin for years, but as a owner of an XL600R, XR650L and an XR650R I've always viewed the Twin as a not really my kind of thing kind of a bike; too big. After watching this video I'm extremely impressed with the Twin, enough so to where I'm going to look into DCT because I am getting older and it's all about do what you can while you still can. Thanks for the 10,000 mile experience deep dive review it speaks massive volumes about the twin given the fact you road that far on a 2022 seven months ago. That is impressive.
I think this is the best, most complete and concise bike test video I've ever seen of any bike, ever, on a very complex bike at that! Don't worry about brake pads, they're cheaper and easier to change than clutch plates, and it's all just friction material. It looks like you modified the parking brake lever for use while riding, as did I. I'm jealous of both your high kicks and your apparent ability to empty a six gallon tank before emptying your bladder.
Really high quality review my friend. What a sweet ride! Fingers crossed that honda does the right thing and let you continue your relationship with this Africa twin. Awesome work!
I think they should let you keep it or offer you a 2023!! You’ve probably sold more AT’s than anyone. DCT is very interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience with the AT Amanda. 👍
I have a 22 ATAS ES DCT as well and just love the bike. I only got to put about 600 miles on it before the snow hit South Dakota....Waiting for it to melt on the roads and I'll be back riding it. I agree with everything you said. It is a fantastic bike and I look forward to all of your adventures on it...I think you'll have to buy one but maybe Honda will just let you have it:)
I have been reviewing a lot of reviews on the African Twin sports for a few weeks now, and this was the most imformative. My conclusion for my application is for a standard transmission for a lot of slow speed maneuvers in off road conditions,
Great video. I bought the Cb500x because of you do start my adventures. You had so much fun on that little bike, so I decided to get one. After owning one for a bit now, my wife wants to start adventure riding with me so I believe I will give her my CB and buy the bike you now Love. 😊 the (AfricaTwin) 😁 thank you so much for all you do. I hope to one day see you out there when I have my AfricaTwin and you have the AfricaTwin that “Honda gives you”😉 Best of luck with that. If they Give you that bike, I can’t wait to watch all the adventures you will experience on her. 😊
I added the factory low seat to my ‘21 Africa Twin. Mine is the base model with manual transmission. I’m about 5’6” with a 28” inseam, so I needed the lower seat just to get the balls of my feet down. I mount my bike using the footpeg and stepping over. It’s not that big of a deal, as that is how I mount most of the bikes I have ever had. Short people problems. I knew you would love the AT. I absolutely love mine. I hope you end up getting it for yourself 😎
Glad to read this from a fellow shorty! I absolutely refuse to allow my stature to stop me owning the motorcycle I want. Just accept the higher chance of a stationary drop with a slip or foot in a hole scenario. Big deal. 👍
I'm on my third Africa Twin (2016, 2017, 2018) all DCTs, and I have loved every single one. Amazing bike. Dare I say perfect bike? I lament the lack of cruise control on my bike. I would like the electronic suspension. But that's really it for me. I tour and commute mostly on mine, but occasionally, there is a dirt road, and ... lets just say I have an inner hooligan. I'm glad you loved it. Wonderful and accurate review in my opinion.
I put a McCruise cruise control on my 2018 AT Adventure Sports DCT and I love it. I've had it on since new in 2019 and it has worked flawlessly (16K miles)! Worth every penny. It makes long trips (and even short ones) sooo... much better! (Note: the 2018 is the first year with throttle-by-wire.)
You could always get down on your knees and plead with Honda to gift the Twin, after all that was so close to a plead with the camera zoom during the video. I hope you get to keep the Twin, and bring it to Get On Fest again this year. You deserve to have the bike with your devotion to it. Thanks for getting me into camping and helping me select gear. See ya at Sturgis❗️❗️
The demand is so great for this model, Honda will have no problem selling it used. Maybe they should offer her a finance package so she can afford to own one.
I also had a ton of issues with Android Auto until I got a high-quality data cable. It solved my problem completely! '21 Adventure Sport DCT and updated the software. Everything else is perfect
I've been looking for a bike for me as a taller rider (6'4). Most people recommend this exact bike as my first. I have experience with MaxiScooters for a few years but this video is awesome in it's detail. Im about convinced to go ahead and get this!
Amazing and calmed down honest review!!, and when it comes to all the tech stuff I would think you nailed it to the point everyone could follow. It was really cool to see that comparison between the different models, I got some new info there displayed very nice. Thx. I have the excact same bike as you just some different patterens in the stickers since mine is a 2020 ATAS ES DCT. Also your take on DCT was perfect and great for people who fear giving it a chance. I personally think Honda should let you keep this bike, the gain they have in having such a charismatic person like you giving this cool review, is worth a few ATAS's I would say. Rock on. Thanks for this review, I'm right about you with 11.000 miles since I got as new in August 2021. But thats 1.5 years ago not 4 months!!! damn. :) Dan, from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Thanks for a good review. I’m also Honda fan, even working for them in the 90s. In 2018 I went shopping for at AT and came home with a BMW R1200GS because back then the AT didn’t have cruise, something my arthritic right hand needs on long trips. Maybe next time. Thanks again.
Well. Been following ya for quite a long time now. And one day out of the blue BOOM a AT showed up. I was very curious as to what happened to the 500X. Now I know. 😄 You live the life I can only dream about. So I get to watch you as a comfort in that. Stay safe and wishing you the absolute best always and in all ways. 😎🤜🤛 P.S.: Seat Concepts makes a WONDERFUL seat kit should you ever have the need for one. Put one on my old V-Strom and still to this day has been the benchmark upon every seat before or after has been measured by.
Thanks for your review and extreme test of the AT. You made it look easy. I’m deciding between my AT and my Goldwing. The AT surprisingly is a better seating position, even though like you I can’t flat foot it. It’s way lighter than the Goldwing though.
Thanks so much for the simulator :D I got my ATAS ES DCT last year in August and I'm still not completely familiar with all the different modes... I'm with you regarding the DCT modes, I only use the non-S mode when the engine is cold. The only negative experience I have with the DCT is that in difficult situations it's harder to control the bike without the option to feather the clutch. Enjoy the bike! :)
@@shuub you shift gears up & down while in DCT mode. Although it remains in automatic..It’s like a playing the combination of manual in between the auto mode.
@@rocket2811 That's only temporary. While I use that for engine braking before turns, it doesn't change the characteristic of the automatic mode. But as I said, I'm fine with the S modes - that's why they exist. Btw. If you are referring to the part of my comment regarding control of the bike, that has nothing to do with the shifting itself. That was solely about the "missing" clutch - which I'm fine with, it's just something you need to know if you plan to use the AT in hard offroad.
This is a wounderfull bike . I ride a Kawasaki Versys 1000 as i love the flexibility of a 4 cylinders . In Europe we do not have much off road opportunities . I am an old school driver and do not want at all any shifter nor track control after 43 years of driving ... I d love to drive a Honda only if i can desactivate track control and shifter and if possible ABS ... And I need a clutch as we have very tricky steep mountain roads . Thanks for this completely review.
Amanda - just went over 7,000mi on my 2021 ATAS ES DCT - Totally agree on seat comfort, taking time to figure out dash, re-teaching yourself for life after a clutch... if you're ever in Dallas hit me up and we'll go visit some dirt roads and tacos
I have the Rebel 1100 DCT and I love it, even though it's been a learning process and I'm still learning since I'm mostly just commuting and other local riding. Seems like most ppl just don't want to even give it a chance simply because it's different. Thanks for the review.
I own that same bike, I put 15K on it after trading my 21 AT with 12k miles on it. After 50+ motorcycles and over 50 years of riding . I'm always reading and shopping for the perfect motorcycle. For me the AT is hard to beat. As far as the seat issue I've looked at different seats. Being a cheap person I tried a Back Joy seat cushion, it looks funky but 500 mile days are no problem. I've had Russell seats that are probably the best seat made but I'm to the point of having a problem parting with $700 for a new seat. Anyway the review is pretty spot on . And being a Honda it has excellent reliability and way more dealers than BMW or almost any other imported motorcycle. But as always ride what like and can afford.
Once again, very good content Amanda. You’re correct in that a bigger motor helps you travel longer with less fatigue. I also concur that the Africa twin is a very desirable bike.
This was simply fabulous. Probably my most favorite Africa twin review / analysis / opinion video. And I've been seeing so many of late. However.. This one convinced me to book a test ride.. And by the looks and sound of it.. I think I am gonna end up buying the honda africa twin over the Bmw gs1250. Also.. The flow and presentation of data was so easy flowing thay I am now also a subscriber.. Can't wait to binge watch over the wkened.. And thank you for being you.
@@AstheMagpieFlies Here is another idea.. How about a video of you going back to the 500x as and when u do And then discuss the pros and cons of the 500x after having lived off an Africa twin crf1100L
Dear Mr Honda, please give this lady this bike for free... she deserves it!
Better than any advertisment Honda could ever make!
Aw thank you very much ☺️
Honda sure was great to let you use this. Now, I hope they give it to you! You are the best advertisement they have!

Is there a neutral mode with the dct, can you rev your engine while going through a tunnel?
@@funyun yes

Thank you for a great review. Your joy and enthusiasm for the Honda made me smile.

One of the best reviews on any bike that I’ve seen. What a happy contented lady thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the review. Im thinking about going to adventure bikes after 14 years of only +170hp sportbikes. This review just confirmed my thoughts on this bike.
Best wishes from Helsinki, Finland 👍
wow haha that simulator is amazing! Dont need it now, but would have been handy when I first got the bike
Thank you Rodney!
Wes
One of the best and most complete motorcycle reviews I’ve seen. Nice job!
Be safe out there, and keep that Rubber Side Up👍👍
Thank you so much
Ty Honda and Amanda. I get tired of the Harley hype, one of the reasons I enjoy Amanda's vlog because of the bikes she rides.
Thank you 😊
I love my AT as well, a super relax bike to ride with.
Now I feel like a complete wimp. It's 45 here, and there's no way I'm going riding with the wind chill. Great video!
Enjoyed the video and a bike that makes you that happy belongs in the shed. RIDE SAFE AMANDA!
Thank you! Will do!
how I love such atmospheres! nice roads, maybe someday I'll run into them haha
Fantastic review, Amanda. It's truly a venerable, flexible, do it all machine.
Thank you. Ride safe!
Glad to help
I did not modify the parking brake lol
And thanks ☺️👍
Really high quality review my friend. What a sweet ride! Fingers crossed that honda does the right thing and let you continue your relationship with this Africa twin.
Awesome work!
Thank you friends ☺️
Soy de España, aquí hay muchos pilotos con esta moto, pero tu opinión me gustó mucho! gracias.
😊 the
(AfricaTwin) 😁 thank you so much for all you do. I hope to one day see you out there when I have my AfricaTwin and you have the AfricaTwin that “Honda gives you”😉
Best of luck with that. If they Give you that bike, I can’t wait to watch all the adventures you will experience on her. 😊
Very thoughtful and thorough review! Crazy 10k in four months! :o
@@SoL-Photo I have plans to do exactly that my friend. My wallet just isn't cooperating right now.
Thank you!!
!! Ooo! Thank you for the tip John!
I've been looking for a bike for me as a taller rider (6'4). Most people recommend this exact bike as my first. I have experience with MaxiScooters for a few years but this video is awesome in it's detail. Im about convinced to go ahead and get this!
I own a 2018 AT Standard and it is my forever bike. Not the first choice for any role but my first choice for one bike to do every role
Wonderful review! The DCT is a miracle for some. People shouldn't knock it. Its the only reason my dad can still ride.
it's really cool that they let you borrow it for so long and put so many miles on it, love my little 250l rally.
I'm still trying to figure out if this is real life 😂
...I love this bike...no more words needed!
Really excellent review, and consistent with my experience on the adventure sports ES at about 10,000 miles as well.
This is the video ive been waiting someone to produce!
Thanks 😊
Thank you
I'm picking mine up tomorrow
So excited 😊
Loved them forever ❤️
GREAT Honest review!
Good points and bonus for Honda to get that pure honest feed back!
Well. Been following ya for quite a long time now. And one day out of the blue BOOM a AT showed up.
I was very curious as to what happened to the 500X. Now I know. 😄
You live the life I can only dream about. So I get to watch you as a comfort in that. Stay safe and wishing you the absolute best always and in all ways. 😎🤜🤛
P.S.: Seat Concepts makes a WONDERFUL seat kit should you ever have the need for one. Put one on my old V-Strom and still to this day has been the benchmark upon every seat before or after has been measured by.
I just bought one and, I’m in love too!
I rode it through the france pirenees and was awesome, it’s a really fantástico bike.
Good Job btw.
I love a bigger big on long rides too but on short rides and commuting smaller bike are more fun 😊 That's why I have both.
Thanks for your review and extreme test of the AT. You made it look easy. I’m deciding between my AT and my Goldwing. The AT surprisingly is a better seating position, even though like you I can’t flat foot it. It’s way lighter than the Goldwing though.
Thanks for the best review I’ve seen on this bike! So glad you love it
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Video production quality is great 👍
Thanks for watching!
I'm so happy you got to do that for the summer !! You definitely deserve it .
Thank you!!
Thanks so much for the simulator :D
I got my ATAS ES DCT last year in August and I'm still not completely familiar with all the different modes...
I'm with you regarding the DCT modes, I only use the non-S mode when the engine is cold.
The only negative experience I have with the DCT is that in difficult situations it's harder to control the bike without the option to feather the clutch.
Enjoy the bike! :)
It’s easy to learn the paddle shifters..
@@rocket2811 What do the paddles have to do with the automatic modes?
Thank you for the review, it was full of knowledge and very entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice review. Maybe Honda will let you test the new Transalp 750. I'd be interested in your thoughts. Enjoy and safe travels.
Glad the AT exceeded your expectations, I hope that Honda surprise you and let you keep the bike ✌
Watching you pick up the bike...RESPECT.
Thank you so much!

Here is another idea..
How about a video of you going back to the 500x as and when u do
And then discuss the pros and cons of the 500x after having lived off an Africa twin crf1100L
Great honest review.
Great vid. Thumbs up for linking the simulator, alone!
Thanks for review... you go girl... I want one too. Great Job !.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review Amanda, btw hat is looking good too ☺️
Thank you for a accurate account of the bike and it’s features. Glad you enjoyed your adventure and sharing it with us.
