@@viren_jalkun "weekend at bernies? never heard of it, no idea what you're talking about. look at that friend who is definitely totally still alive, isn't that funny?"
For anybody wondering, enum is short for enumerated. They represent values that you enumerate at compile time. This trades some flexibility for a potentially extreme performance boost. Due to the flexibility trade off, you cannot use enums for general networking stuff because you cannot enumerate all networking stuff at compile time.
Specifically "enumerate at compile time" means replace with a number at compile time not list one-by-one at compile time (since enumerate has both definitions and this sentance initially confused me). And although you can't network THROUGH enums you can send enums over the network as part of a network message. You can't usually use enums on their own as the entirety of a networked message (unless you have a very specific game like tic tac toe). In fact it's incredibly common for enums to be used in the header of network messages as a discriminator for different message types. However usually you require other values for the rest of the contents (floats for positions, strings for names, etc) for a significant portion of the networking message's contents.
@@slBrelaz I was wondering if I should put in the network packet header clarification, but I left it out because I was worried it would confuse people. Clearly, I took the wrong route…
@@slBrelaz are enums like serialized objects in Java for Android apps (to send them from one activity to the other) What I don't understand why is this needed since any data are bits and you can just transfer the bits like they are any other data type. Why does it matter if they are enums or serializable objects?
@@BankruptGreek They're like constant variables, just grouped into a list based on relevance to each other and usually incrementing by 1 for each entry on the list. To elaborate on my earlier example about message types: enum MessageTypes { PlayerConnected, // 0 (when the first value is not assigned it defaults to 0) PlayerDisconnected, // 1 EntityMoved, // 2 CraftItem, // 3 etc... // each entry increments by 1 unless assigned to a specific value. } By default PlayerConnected would have a value of 0, PlayerDisconnected would have a value of 1 and so-on, each value in the enum that does not have a specific value set (using =) increments the value of the previous item by 1. You'd use these entries just like normal const variables, e.g. as so: if (Message.Header.Type === MessageTypes.PlayerConnected) { ///code } Enums are mostly used as an easy way to group related magic numbers or constant values together so that they can be used for comparisons without having to do (relatively slow) string comparisons while still being very readable. They're also used in optimised code because (as was said previously) they are replaced by their values by the compiler, so there's no variable lookup needed at runtime (this is not important to most programmers). They're completely unneeded (just like switch statements) as you can achieve the exact same functionality using preprocessor directives. They just exist to make a programmer's life easier and code neater.

That poor girl! It's such a douche move to do that public proposal thing. Good for her for getting away from him. Garrison and Zach give that "poor little rich boy" vibe. I doubt they have ever really worked for anything in their lives. I doubt they'll try to get better at game development...because that would be work.
Thats exactly what i got. The character type is so clear. I am not sure about Zach if he was a waiter (she didnt deny much) at least in what he showed. But we also dont know much about him, so this is my take. Gary? The chubbier guy with the rich uncle is the kid with the money. Zach is his friend who never grew up and always has big dreams. (hence his ridiculous proposal where she couldnt say no) Zach needs money, he wants to do something awesome that so many boys want to do, and his rich friend agrees. They get together to make the best game ever. Honestly Gary looks like he doesnt have a clue about much. Zach is the pretty boy that thinks hes real special because he always has girls chasing him and makes friends easy, so he can do no wrong. And he will do anything to make everybody love him (including lie) He has looks, charm, and no morals. On the way to a sociopath, but really I think just a spoiled child.

Just top notch, honestly. I'm really happy you're getting the credit and attention you deserve.
What a crazy situation Dreamworld is! I know there's a lot more than could fit into 45 mins but it's a shame you didn't include a little info about your work on NightmareWorld, since there's no more compelling argument than putting your money where your mouth is & _demonstrating_ how something can be done. A 'game dev' is one of those job titles where everyone _thinks_ they know what it entails but actually have no idea, making it easy for people to adopt the moniker as a either a smoke screen or a badge of honour to suit their purposes... and these guys have done both. Demos like the 360° door issue are _hugely valuable_ as it helps non-programmers like myself set more realistic expectations of projects, while keeping self-proclaimed 'game devs' accountable for realistic progress... glad that you're here Callum!! 👏

Honestly, this seems rather sad. They are clearly driven people, but they're also driving blindly and seemingly hoping they'll just get a feel for the car and the road before they crash and neither of them have a drivers licence or know how to drive. Seems like a disaster in the making.
IDK about driven, there were times where weeks would go by for an update and it would be that they adjusted a slider in UE. They were about as driven as I am working on hobby projects: During the fun parts I'll work tirelessly, during the boring parts I'll barely touch it for a couple weeks.
what are u saying, the main dude is an absolute narcissist. I dont feel bad for his fake emotional sob stories failing. His smiles, chuckles, how he makes himself sound like an excited little kid, I think it's all a form of manipulation. There's something clearly off with him and after dealing with similar people, I can't unsee it.
yeah, finding positive things like that despite everything is a sign that their main dude is a really good conman
I dunno man, whether its intentional or not, they are still scamming people so I wouldnt start crying yet
@@FrontlineSuicide It most definitely isn't real the dudes scammed people the same way before. We see clips of it in this video, but theres more. Even if there weren't, do none of you get this overwelming feeling of distrust looking at him?

It's been a full year? Damn.
I imagined barely anyone is playing Dreamworld at this point... But I don't think they'll acknowledge that it's dead any time soon, right? They must still have responsibilities to their investors that they must at least pretend to try fulfilling.

@@tzxazrael nothing. It seems DreamWorld was the biggest scam of the creators lives, and it fizzled out on arrival for many reason and now they are just parading around the dead body of their scam like a twisted marionette lmfao
@@viren_jalkun "weekend at bernies? never heard of it, no idea what you're talking about. look at that friend who is definitely totally still alive, isn't that funny?"
this man thought he was going to replace the whole industry with one game. That should have been red flag enough.
@@Toberumono Nah I just personally prefer writing too much information and responding to comments before I've watched the video
@@slBrelaz are enums like serialized objects in Java for Android apps (to send them from one activity to the other)
What I don't understand why is this needed since any data are bits and you can just transfer the bits like they are any other data type. Why does it matter if they are enums or serializable objects?
@@BankruptGreek They're like constant variables, just grouped into a list based on relevance to each other and usually incrementing by 1 for each entry on the list. To elaborate on my earlier example about message types:
enum MessageTypes {
PlayerConnected, // 0 (when the first value is not assigned it defaults to 0)
PlayerDisconnected, // 1
EntityMoved, // 2
CraftItem, // 3
etc... // each entry increments by 1 unless assigned to a specific value.
}
By default PlayerConnected would have a value of 0, PlayerDisconnected would have a value of 1 and so-on, each value in the enum that does not have a specific value set (using =) increments the value of the previous item by 1.
You'd use these entries just like normal const variables, e.g. as so:
if (Message.Header.Type === MessageTypes.PlayerConnected) { ///code }
Enums are mostly used as an easy way to group related magic numbers or constant values together so that they can be used for comparisons without having to do (relatively slow) string comparisons while still being very readable.
Gotta say Cal, your production value has gone through the roof since last i watched one of your videos. Good on you for keeping it real, man.
I want to believe it was the same taxi the hit him twice, just out there trying to hunt Zack down, take him out in an attempt to avoid Dreamworld from happening, having had visions of the future. It makes the story much more fun. Lol
Truck-kun's younger sibling is out to isekai him. I'd stay inside too. Imagine if he'd wake up inside Dreamworld and only be able to escape once it finished... Wait a minute, we sure that's not the real story?

"I was born at an extremely young age"
Thanks for the video. I fell down the Dreamworld rabbit hole early this year and I've been itching for some more contemporary coverage.
Callum I really appreciate how open and honest you are with all this stuff. World needs more people that can say someone is bsing ( such as the years of experience or spending 400 hours to fix doors) then proves it by fixing the doors in a couple minutes by yourself. I look forward to every video you put out.
(hence his ridiculous proposal where she couldnt say no)
Zach needs money, he wants to do something awesome that so many boys want to do, and his rich friend agrees. They get together to make the best game ever.
Honestly Gary looks like he doesnt have a clue about much. Zach is the pretty boy that thinks hes real special because he always has girls chasing him and makes friends easy, so he can do no wrong. And he will do anything to make everybody love him (including lie)
He has looks, charm, and no morals. On the way to a sociopath, but really I think just a spoiled child.
"poor little rich boy" pretty much sums it up

I still remember that original Dreamworld video coming up in my recommendations. It's mindblowing that your channel has grown so much since then
I was not aware that the Dreamworld arc literary started your channel, first discovered it on Kira's channel during his initial coverage, what a wild ride it was
Wild to think Dreamworld is was the genesis of this channel...
also wild to think I've been here for the whole ride...Looking forward to the next video Callum
I never wanted this to end!
This is what happens when tech bros think they can do anything, including developing an entire game (which of course, because they're tech bros, has to be revolutionary and do stuff noone has ever done before). For a moment I thought there was going to be a "redemption arc" for them, but it's not in the cards without humility.
I'm just surprised they haven't run out of money yet.
I had no idea your channel STARTED with dreamworld. I just remember seeing that first video and watching most stuff since. Interesting that youtube blew up your first video. The Algorithm Lord works in mysterious ways.
Hmm, I got hit by two cabs twice with earbuds in... so the obvious solution is create a wearable speaker and *definitely not* just turning the volume down.
21:55 Something that you probably didn't know or missed is that in order to get the access key you have to get another person to invest in the project to. I forgot who mentioned this though but they also tried asking the people in discord who had actually played the game.
In 2022, I've realized that games where you can "do everything" no longer appeal to me anymore. What I want are games with few but strong gameplay loops.
Literally every fucking dumb "metaverse" currently in the making.
I've been going back and forth between single player RPGs and simpler games from smaller studios with names like Train Station Flipper.
I really don't understand how you're not a multi million subscriber channel.
